Hi all
Sorry this is a newbie question.
I am picking up a second hand XDA this week. The seller tells me its 64Mb ROM, how can I check this?
I just wanted to know so that I could check it before I pay for it.
Thanks
Primed
The XDA (unless I'm mistaken) is 32MB ROM but 32MB or 64MB RAM. I suspect your seller has made a typo and means 64MB RAM. Check...
Sorry...
I think you are right, it is the RAM that I want to check, i.e. is it 32Mb or 64Mb RAM.
Does anyone know how I can check this?
Thanks

Has anybody done any serious upgrading to get more internal memory in Wallaby?
Looking at the System properties I would think that there is just a std. 32MB Intel StrataFlash (likely J3). I know that there are 64MB versions - and since StrataFlash is available only upto 32 MB - there must be extra footprint for another flash.
Say that it is NOT in BGA package, I would solder extra 32MB flash in there.
Also, more SDRAM would be good if it is possible upgrade.
If somebody has an insight, please advise - perhaps less smoke comes out of this thingie...
Yes, I am more into H/W than S/W

flash is where the rom is put
a rom have to be made spc to a device to work
so if you device is made for 32mb rom then
there would be no 64mb rom for it
you cant change rom from one type of device to
another
here are some threads about upgrading ram

is there any good version of WM 2005? i mean it will not only detect 30MB ram but 125MB ram....... can give me the link? what is the difference between the WM 2003se 2.20.00 and 2.20.07??
Ive said this before, please read it..
WM2005 doesnt detect 30 or 32meg ram, it detects all 128meg of it. It just doesnt use it. at all. Not a bit. Nothing. Nadda.
The missing ram is not a bug, its not a problem its a DESIGN FEATURE of wm2005.
WM2005 uses ENTIRELY FLASH. this is to prevent data loss in the event of battery failure. New wm2005 devices will have much larger flash storage so this isnt going to be a problem.
The fact that the memory program shows the flash being used for running program memory as well as storage says that wm2005 DOES NOT use ram for programs at all. I expect ms will drop ram from the future spec for devices in order to lower chip count and simplify designs.
The 32meg OS memory holds the windows ROM, its write protected. no way to edit it live.
the 32meg DiskOnChip holds the Storage and Extrom, these are partitione d in some way to 2 roughly 16meg sections.
WM uses the storage partition for storage, Duh. It maps it over the windows directory and all file changes and additions are put in there.
the ExtRom directory is used for running program memory. It kills the extrom.
Remember that due to the way MS cant count, differences in the way they measure Bytes, kilibytes etc (1000 or 1024 people?) and filesystem overhead the numbers wont add up exactly at the end. But trust me, unless anyone can PROVE me wrong, this is what happens.
It may be possible to make use of the ram as a storage disk, but a custom ramdisk program would have to be written.
??
oh ya hw about WM 2003 SE version 2.20.07? is it translated version? is the fonts like very rough?? the WM 2005 safe to use?
( Sorry for my english, i'm french)
I would like to thank all those which take part to make live this forum.
But I am lost a little.
I read the pages of the forum for a long time but I still put myself questions.
I just have upgrade my Himalaya to WM5 1.60cWWE.
I would like to know if it is the last version at present.
What are all the stages has to follow to benefit the maximum of the memory of my Himalaya with WM5?
My Device informations:
- RAM size 128 MB
- Flash size 32 MB
- Storage size 95.59 MB
I saw that certain people have a directory named Storage + a directory named Ramdisk. Why?
Can we install programs in Storage and Ramdisk?
I know that certain these question were already put but I want to be sure.
Thanks
I have created a simple front end to Paradis_Pals change page pool through activesync method. This was done as an experiment, but seeming as it works, I thought I may as well let others use it.
Thanks to Korand for patching the batch files.
Download and unzip the files to anywhere.
Connect your device with activesync
Run l3v5y Change PP.exe.
Select the PagePool you want.
Wait a few seconds.
Soft reset your device.
Download (Change PP for WM6, WM6.1 for WM6.1 devices):

thanks im going to try it as soon as i can...
console output:
>"pdocwrite" "6.nb" 0x36855A
3 partitions, 2 binary partitions
customerid=00000000 uniqueid= 00 00 00 00 20 2a 02 04 15 39 11 1e 15 0b 05 b8
CopyFileToTFFS(6.nb:0, 36855a, 00000001)
but nothing happend.. how i check if pagepool is changed? Settings->System Info -> memory??
great job my friend i will try

Is Change PP E-ten X500+ compatible (WM6)? Tested?
What "rake" I have or will have?
Suitable for HTC Prophet only at the moment.

The Page Pool
Applications use RAM in two ways. There is code that runs, and there is data that is created while it is running. On a NOR device, the code can run directly from the ROM and not be loaded into RAM first. This process is called XIP (eXecute In Place). NAND devices can't XIP, so their code is loaded into RAM and executed from there. If you don't have a Page Pool, this code is loaded into normal RAM. The Page Pool is a mechanism to limit how much code is loaded into normal RAM. With a Page Pool, we can unload code that hasn't been used in a while and reload it later if we need to. We can't do that without a Page Pool.

Please tell me which size of Page Pool is best for HTC Prophet?
thanks so much
I can tell you only my personal experience:
Compared to the previous 8MiB Pagepool on my device the 4MiB Pagepool is not slower, but I have more free memory.
The bigger the Page pool, the more programs you can run at the same time without the system being dodgy. You have less RAM available for your programs though.
6MB should be enough in both ways (free ram and amount of apps you can start simultaneously) If not, try 8MB.
You can go up, but only if you have more than 64 MB of ram in your device, then it won't hurt to have more Page pool imho.
helllo, I'm new in the world of the cooking, and i want change PP on WM6.1 on the OS.nb or MyRom.nbh
A solution exists for this release of Windows Mobile ??
Sincerely
Is it for a prophet ROM? as far as I can remember, the prophet uses *.nbf...
You should be able to use this with nb2nbf program, but I'll need to find the start address...
edit: start address is: 0x58956...
Sorry, i've don't see that this section isn't good, I've a HTC elf and not a prophet !
But I don't find for Elf !
Something is wrong...
I wanted my PagePool to 4MB...but at least i only have 44MB RAM instead og 52MB...
6MB PagePool is working fine...
Can you please fix the 4MB-Problem?!
I think that means it has flashed the wrong PagePool size. I shall see what is wrong, and try to fix it as soon as I can.

Thanks a lot
One quick thought: Prophet Tools (link in my signature) has the WM6.1 page pool settings. See if that works for you and if not I'll check that out as well.

Please fix this...thanks...
