Hi all
Sorry this is a newbie question.
I am picking up a second hand XDA this week. The seller tells me its 64Mb ROM, how can I check this?
I just wanted to know so that I could check it before I pay for it.
Thanks

The XDA (unless I'm mistaken) is 32MB ROM but 32MB or 64MB RAM. I suspect your seller has made a typo and means 64MB RAM. Check...
Sorry...
I think you are right, it is the RAM that I want to check, i.e. is it 32Mb or 64Mb RAM.
Does anyone know how I can check this?
Thanks

Greets,
I cooked up a 4.00.16 ROM at the ROM Kitchen and installed it. I then purchased and installed Microsoft Voice Command. I know that hogs a lot of space, but there are several files that I'm not sure go with Voice Command. They all start with MsgQueueDataFileMicrosoft and are all 2.7 Mb each.
Any clue as to what these are? File Explorer and Total Commander put the \Windows folder at 61 Mb. How is this possible on a 32 Mb device?
The MsgQueueDataFileMicrosoft represent the internal databases on the pocket pc. They are stored in ROM and do not take up usable memory.
The reason the \Windows folder shows 61mb's is that most of it is stored in ROM on the device. I believe the XDA has 32mb's of ROM and 32mb's of memory for installed programs.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

FYI
They suggest that you install Voice Command to Main memory, but I find that it also works/runs pretty good from the SD card. So you might look at that as an option for regaining some of your Main memory.
Oh yea if I'm not mistaken the regular T-Mobile PPCPE comes with 32MB RAM and the T-Mobile MDA comes with 64MB RAM.
HTH
T-Mobile MDA? I didn't know there was a difference between that and the PPCPE. I thought people were just using the terms interchangeably as they do XDA/Siemens SX56... etc.

Ok I stand corrected its the T-Mobile MDA II that has the 64MB RAM.
Check it out at: http://msmobiles.com/article.php/54.html

MDA II from T-Mobile--AKA Deutsche Telekom
Just to clarify for others--I am fairly certain that's T-Mobile in Europe, aka Deutsche Telekom that will be selling the MDA II.
hi... im new to the XDAII.. but what a great machine...
looking at all the info on this device, the manual, product packaging, and the O2 website it says it has 128MB RAM and 64MB ROM...
but when in device information/harware its says RAM size = 128MB, Flash size = 32MB
should it read 64MB flash size to indiacte the 64MB ROM as the literature says or is it assigned and indicated differently..
cheers

The other 32 MB...
The other 32 MB are in a 'disk-on-chip' module. Half of it is already accessible as "\Storage", the other half becomes acessible as "\Extended_ROM" once you play with the registry a bit. It holds CAB files which are executed after a cold boot.

thanks
thanks for the help....

Has anybody done any serious upgrading to get more internal memory in Wallaby?
Looking at the System properties I would think that there is just a std. 32MB Intel StrataFlash (likely J3). I know that there are 64MB versions - and since StrataFlash is available only upto 32 MB - there must be extra footprint for another flash.
Say that it is NOT in BGA package, I would solder extra 32MB flash in there.
Also, more SDRAM would be good if it is possible upgrade.
If somebody has an insight, please advise - perhaps less smoke comes out of this thingie...
Yes, I am more into H/W than S/W
//J.Joonas
flash is where the rom is put
a rom have to be made spc to a device to work
so if you device is made for 32mb rom then
there would be no 64mb rom for it
you cant change rom from one type of device to
another

( Sorry for my english, i'm french)
I would like to thank all those which take part to make live this forum.
But I am lost a little.
I read the pages of the forum for a long time but I still put myself questions.
I just have upgrade my Himalaya to WM5 1.60cWWE.
I would like to know if it is the last version at present.
What are all the stages has to follow to benefit the maximum of the memory of my Himalaya with WM5?
My Device informations:
- RAM size 128 MB
- Flash size 32 MB
- Storage size 95.59 MB
I saw that certain people have a directory named Storage + a directory named Ramdisk. Why?
Can we install programs in Storage and Ramdisk?
I know that certain these question were already put but I want to be sure.
Thanks
Well,
I am using a Micromax A70, which according to a video found in Youtube
is BYD W601T, which is also used by chinese company U9mobiles as S320.
According to BYD, the phone has 512mb RAM, and also on U9mobile site (the forum was totally chinese and took a lot of time to translate), the RAM is stated as 512mb. But to me, the phone only shows 256mb.
My question is, whether I have to enable the setting CONFIG_HIGHMEM in the kernel config inorder to use RAM completely (if it has 512mb ram). I found the setting not set in the config.
Or, is the setting irrelevant when it comes to the 2.6.32 kernel and 512mb ram?
If I have to enable the setting, is there a need to recompile the kernel, or can I just replace the config.gz file with a new one?
Thanks.
