sms not received - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

i run 4.00.05 wm2003 and rsu 4.21.X ( was 4.21 ) and often have trouble receiving SMS. I can send OK and they are delivered and lots have been sent and don't come. I ask for provider ( MOVISTAR ) to send SMS account balance info to test and they send and i don't get them. Coverage is fine, tried a network bounce ( select other provider , then back to relog onto Movistar with no joy )
Any ideas or codes I can put into phone to try to fix or unblock a potential queue??
Thanks in advance.

Been there seen that and the only thing that fixed it for me was a hard reset. If you like you can use Pocket Backup to do a full backup then restore everything except the the inbox.
Pocket Backup can be found at:

@ qman,
thanks - i think a restore may have caused the problem as I agree if you restore the inbox sms seem to stop. running cleanmail empties all the mail ( same as restore without mail restoration i guess ) and then sms works again.
all well and good BUT.... whats the point of pocket backup and mail backs if when you restore you either dont restore mail or do a cleanmail afterwards to get SMS to work?? bit confused by this - anyone know more about pocket backup, cleanmail type things that allow restore of mails and functioning sms afterwards??

can you retrieve undelivered SMS?

I was testing some software on my mogul and decided to restore a backup of the phone. I used Resco Backup to backup/restore the PIM and file system.
Resco didnt do a good job of the file system and registry...when it finished the restore my SMS/MMS and E-mail account were missing from Messaging.
I left it like that all of sunday, said i do a "Clear Storage" later that day.
Then i came to realize that people where sending me SMS but they weren't showing up....guess because they had no SMS account to show up in..
is there anyway to retrieve/redeliver these SMS?
My carrier is Sprint
you can call sprint but more then likely if the text 'hit' your phone then they should be there or lost
you can try doing a hard reset of your phone and see if the texts pop up there (in theory this would work if there is no 'text' accounts under messages)

No way is a hard reset going to make them appear. Not a chance.
I would look into how PPCPimBackup looks for text messages. If it goes beyond the Outlook account level you might be in luck.

Best Backup utility for SMS, Call history only

Hello,
I've done some digging both through XDA Developers and the Internet in General.
I can't seem to find a decent program (or combination) that may effectively backup up only my sms and call history--the only 2 things I keep losing every time I flash. I went on a blitz last week and tried about 4 apps, but non really worked when I tested. Once again, I only care about sms and call history. I pull everything else back in with activesync.

Have you tried PPCPimBackup? It works great, and you can specify what you want backed up.
+1
Have it and love it!

It's the only program I use for backing up and restoring my stuff when flashing.

I've been using Dashwire.com. I am not saying that it is better than other PIM backup software. I just like the fact that I can access my info from work and from home. I haven't tried it yet but I am hoping that I am able to restore info from one phone to another.
It backs up contacts, pictures, videos, calls, history, contacts, messages, sms, speed dials, ringtones, bookmarks, and voicemail. And is user configurable to backup only the items that you want.
It is in beta right now and it looks like it may want to be a social networking site. It let's you update your status to Twitter and Facebook simultaneously. I'm not into that so much. But the backup and restore process was painless.
After upgrading my ROM, it was a simple download and install of the Dashwire cab, log into my account, and it was as if my phone was never wiped clean. So far that's the program that I am using. I also backed up using SPBbackup and activesync to Outlook. But those were just to cover my bases.
p.s. did I mention free?
Boomstick's right on the money. Using Dashwire you can currently transfer from phone to phone your contacts, web favorites, and speed dials (with plans to include much more). All of your photos, videos, calls, and text messages remain backed up and available in your secure web-based account. If you switch phones, all of your content continues to sync and is backed-up (as long as Dashwire is installed). We make it really easy to search through all of your content too.
Check it out: www.dashwire.com
i use PPCPIMBackup just for my sms and call history, and have gone thru several DCD rom updates with my call and sms history intact.

You should tell us which crappy ones you already tried.
Thanks all--that PIM Backup is PERFECT!!!
And sorry, I don't even remember all the apps I tried--I blew up my PC last week, and had to restore the HD to 3 months ago, so I don't have it.

Can I save my messages to...

my sd card instead off it automatically saving it to the handset memory and taking forever before I can send a text if there are a lot messages threaded together?
nope. you can either delete all your messages to help with the freezing, though it'll come back when you get a lot more messages, or disable HTC Messaging & go back to the older/better WM messaging.
A few people have been saying that the leaked 3.14 ROM doesn't lag/freeze with texts so you may want to look in to that.

I can confirm this statement. The 3.14 ROM has a lot of the original bugs fixed (including slow loading when you have a lot of messages) but still if you have 300+ messages from someone it can start to get a little lag. If you don't want any at all I would recommend switching back to Windows Mobile messaging.
edit: If you use Microsoft My Phone it will back up all your messages and you can archive them online. This will allow you to delete them from your phone to solve the lagging problem without losing them permanently. If you would rather have a hard copy on your phone I'd suggest Resco Backup, it is a fabulous program. Link to both backup solutions below.
Microsoft My Phone
Resco Backup
Jeyo Mobile Companion is also a great way to backup messages. It backs them up to MS Outlook
Cheers guys, will start backing up my messages.
You can give a try to PimBackup to save your messages, too.

Re-organizing SMS/Text messages, and backup utlities

I used PIM Backup to backp my text messages, but it is ridiculously outdated at this point and development seems to have stopped forever ago... and appears to have a major flaw, it doesn't save threaded messages.
Whenever I do a restore, not only does my pone remain unresponsive for practically a day after the restore finishes as it gets it's bearings.... but the messages only show my side of the conversation, even though it appears to have restored both sides (I think their responses come before the very first reply of mine).
So first of all before I even find a better backup tool, I first need a way to re-organize and re-thread my messages. Is there any way to do this?
And of course, what (preferably free) backup tool would you recommend? Since I am experimenting with different roms, I just want my contacts, call logs, text logs, etc to be backed up, not my settings or apps or anything like that.
resco backup, but it's not free
use Microsoft Myphone. It's free, it's easy, it's auto-scheduled, viewable from the internet using any web browser, works on any wm phone and works great even if you're using a ROM.
Well, first of all I want to know if there is any way to fix this unthreaded messages issue.
And doesn't MyPhone just sync contacts and e-mails? I want all my of call and text logs saved too.
myphone syncs text messages.
can also backup mydocument folder and others as well.
I have been using it since it came out.
Works great. My syncs every morning at 4am.

Recover lost SMS

Hello XDA
I'am in dire need of your help and expertise. Last wednesday my LG G2 had a problem with its clock, and I have a feeling that it somehow conflicted with ingoing/outgoing messages - Is that even possible?
My real problem is that troughout wed-friday I had troubles recieving and sending SMS, or so I thought. 1 SMS that was sent to me on wednesday arrived friday and that it when I noticed that something was wrong. Afterwards every message I sent was almost instantly disappeared from my message app but my contact recieved the SMS even though. Also any incomming SMS would display in the notification bar and the dropdown function android has, but when I opened the SMS to the message viewer the SMS would disappear almost instantly before I could have a chance to read it through.I have a feelling the it is not deleted and stil resides somewhere within my phone. Can you help me find it or somehow restore it if that what takes?
Side note:
I've heard that you can use various android SMS recovery tools, but that should - correct me if I'am wrong - require a root of your phone. But if I root my LG G2, wouldnt the phone reset and the data get whiped along with my SMS ?
Thanks in advance.
Try using SMS backup and restore by ritesh sahu from google play store.
Aur backup ready the phone and then restore
