Does anyone know of some software that will send sms on my pc through my xda when it is in the sync cradle?
Cheers
Jas
I don't know about sending through your xda but just send an email to the phone number @mobile.att.net or @tmomail.net
i.e [email protected]
Att and Tmobile are the only sms gateways I know. I'm sure they all have one though. - Jim
There is a new product called CoolSMS (or is it SMS Cool???). I saw it last week on Handango.
I've tried it, it works in that u can sync the sms in your inbox and type the SMS on your PC and sent it through the O2. But as most 1.0 version there a few quirks, especially that the editor to type the SMS on your PC is buggy.
cool! could you send me that coolsms or sms cool.
Cheers
Jas
it is a commercial program
what does that mean?
that you have to pay for it then you get a seriel number which unlock the program
not all programs for pda are free
of cause like pc programs one can often get hold of commercial programs without paying but it's illegal
here is the link to the review of the tool and you can download a trial version
http://msmobiles.com/article.php/59.html
do you know where i can get it with out paying
nop sorry
nor would i advise you to ask too much about such things in the forum
because i think that the mods can be held responsible for warez in forums
which may mean that they delete this thread or ban you or something
maybe you can find some evil opposite of elvis who knows who knows
ok cheers bud
There is a way to do this with a free software. Download & install the free Remote Display Control application from MS. You can find it at :
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/resources/downloads/default.mspx
This application is similar to PcAnywhere. You see your XDA screen on your PC while the XDA is connected to your PC via ActiveSync. Simply navigate to your SMS Inbox and create and send the message. Presto!
Hope this helps.

This is a great tip and thanks for posting it but $9.99 isn't a bad price for such a Cool program. 8)
Qman, thanks. I must admit having seen this posted somewhere earlier on so much as I'd like to I can't claim credit for the idea!
I agree with you in the price of CoolSMS being reasonable at $9.99, especially if it allows one to compose SMS while the XDA is not yet connected to ActiveSync to be sent at the next ActiveSync. This is one thing you can't do with the solution I posted.

HI,
My XDA only shows the number of who is calling and not the name. Anyone know how to fix this?
need to add to your contact list
Please... that is not an informative answer.
There is a piece of software you need to download. Unfortunately I do not have the URL, but I believe if you search this forum it has been posted before.
Regards
Martin
Thanks guys
I think xchange had given enough information. I didn't need any Software to see the callers name.
Just have to sync your XDA with your PC or add the contacs manualy to your XDA and it will be shown on calling.
If you want to see the name at incoming SMS you need a little bit of Software. It's called SMS__Name from Paragon. It can be downloaded for free. Just search the frum to find the link / Instructions....
Regards
Stefan
I agree its simple as Xchange said no need for additional software its a minor setting in the XDA.

Sorry. I misread - I thought this was about SMS
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to default Pocket Outlook to display First Name, Last Name.
I have set all my contact on the PC to First, Last, but if I create a new contact on the XDA or I edit the name of any contact on the XDA it reverts to Last, First.
I have tried this on a Dell Axim X5 (PPC2003) and this seems to be the same.
Thanks
Matt
Yep got that same prob!! But I got around it by saving the contact to SIM then copy to phone and from there add any additional details.
Hope this helps.

If anyone has an easy answer to this one, I'd be very pleased.
I've been fighting with this one for months.

This will work but as soon as you edit any part of the name in the address book it reverts to Last, First again and you have to repeat the process again!
When you sysn to Outlook 2002/XP go to contact select the contact name you want to edit their is an option called "File as" which is drop down menu. it will display the First AND Last Name . Save AND Close repeat step for other contacts.
Hope this helps
This doesn't help when you add a new contact on the XDA, it files it LAST, FIRST, until you get a chance to sync the XDA and change it back in Outlook.

Oh boy, my favorite Pocket Outlook annoyance, one of many, since I use the GroupWise 6.5 client with IntelliSync to synchronize. What can I say: masochism, a way of life?
Anyway, I solved it by cutting the last name and appending that to the first name for all (250-300 ) my contacts. Only takes one night and is a real good practise for getting used to the touchscreen.
I have searched on a lot of forums, and only 1 tip can be read time after time: get a different PIM, even if you don't have the issue we're discussing right now.
Really, why Microsoft didn't put an option to change the View in there will probably never cease to amaze me

The best solution for me is to change all contacts to First Name only containing all full name, but as I am a lazy software engineer I wrote some software to do it. I also wrote it to change any (UK) mobile number it finds to +44 at the start so the caller ID appears when then send sms.
I don't have an ftp site so if anyone wants to e-mail me I can send them a copy - runs on the PC with Office 2000 or greater installed and you can preview what changes it will do before altering anything.
Usual disclaimer applies - Don't blame me and make a back up of your contacts in Outlook before you start.
Files are available at the following http download site:
http://www31.brinkster.com/pissterons/onameconverter/onameconverter.zip
Please cut and paste the link into a new browser window.
Let me know if anyone has any problems.

I can not download the file.. I'm getting this msg:
HTTP1.1 STATUS 403 Remote Access to this object forbidden This file cannot be directly accessed from a remote site, but must be linked through the Brinkster Member's site.
So, please advice,,,
Best regards,,,
If you cut the address and paste it into the address bar of a new explorer (or other browser) window it should work. If not mail me and I will e-mail you.

Ok then you can download it from the below site:
http://www.penreader.com/PocketPC/SMS_Name.html
This freeware little application was designed for improving SMS messaging on your PocketPC 2002 Phone Edition device.
By default, when you get SMS message, you see a telephone number only. With "SMS Name" you'll be able to see a sender name (which you have added to your Contacts list).
Using: Just copy the file to your device and run it.

Hi!
Can anyone help to suggest an easy way of backing up the text messages from my HTC HD2 to PC, I have loads of jokes that just have to be kept!!
On my last phone I forwarded the texts to my e-mail address but this was not only slow but cost me a fortune cos they went as MMS instead of simple texts.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you just want to back it up, you can use PIMBACKUP and just transfer the file to your your PC. However, if you wish to see the txt on ur PC also, you may want to use programs like SMS Cool or freeware like SMSSyncUP.

MyPhone has a web interface where you can manage and view your synchronized content.
myphone.microsoft.com
I use SPBBackup works well for me.
Hi there, I have searched, I'm sure the answer must be here, but can't find it.
Am I right in saying that the email (not Gmail) program doesn't download emails to allow you to view them when you might not have a connection to a network?
I can't find the setting for this for the life of me, is this one reason to go for a 3rd party program?
Many thanks...
Screen shot the email you want to view for later?
Not really an answer but an alternative.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Thanks, but the whole problem happens when I'm moving about my work which is a large building, I haven't opened up an email yet and when I go to I happen to be in an area where there's no network (cellular or wifi), so I haven't had the chance to screen shot it first.
Any other ideas? Surely others must have found it maddening too?
Sorry to be a pain, but is everyone else experiencing this? Any workarounds?
Many thanks

Bump!
Whilst I'm at it, is there a way to stop the screen turning off when the phone is plugged in? I'm beginning to think I'm missing some settings somewhere, these are such basic things which I've had on other phones for years........

Not sure if you're correct. I suppose you're referring to the stock email program that comes with the SGS2?. This has been modified slightly by Samsung - but, either that, or the stock android email client both do download a certain amount of your emails from the server - Go into the mail program, clickon the options button, click More...select account Settings, select "Size to retrieve emails", and choose 5 kb as a start. This should cover most txt emails.
Riz
That's the problem-I have no option to change the size downloaded.
Any other UK O2 users out there?
Can any other O2 UK users confirm whether they have this setting option our how they've got around this problem?
Many thanks.
K9 mail allows you to set the download amount.
