hi Guys ,
I come to you as a friend in need, I have a serious problem bwith the internet sharing on my ameo, as you can see I am on it now typing this, but I can't for the life of me get it to share the connection, I don't have a bluetooth dongle for it, so its usb all the way, here is what happens:
my pc running windows xp doesn't have a modem attached, only thing connected to it network wise is my playstation 3, I don't have the interet at home, hence wanting to use the ameo for the connection.
plug the ameo in, bink active sync goes on, leave it to sync, then I have tried a couple of things to no avail, just hitting internet sharing then, ameo dumps the usb connection then restarts it, nadda no I-net explorer, nothing pinging
I have tried starting the sharer before connection the usb lead nadda,
is there a set of setup needs I am blatantly missing? everyone seems to jus say they plug it in and it works, but I can't seem to get over this hurdle.
perhaps its simply a network setting on windows?
Can anyone thinks they can help suggest something I am doing wrong? even if it sounds obvious to u I might just be missing something simple
ps I am running pk dual touch
Many thanks in advance
Peter
hmm, just did a soft reset and now its working....hmm...
would still like to know what caused it, i turned off advanced usb features could that have made it start working?
whats that for anyways?
Peter
I get this sometimes, the ameo acts as a DHCP server and assigns the computer an IP addy, sometime however it does not assign an addy and so there can be no data transfer !! a simple reset of the ameo appears to sort it every time !!
i always found that the modem link, Wireless modem and Internet sharing applications always worked better if you activate them BEFORE connecting the USB cable.
Either that or the dodgy power supply on my USB hub is causing the problem!!! :-D

I completely agree, connecting the service before connecting the USB is much more reliable
PS did you guys know that we aren`t supposed to be able to do this, apparently to connect to your laptop you are supposed to use web and walk pro at £12.50 per month not just web and walk my mate can`t do this through his nokia cos it does not support internet connection sharing
well this problem happened to me today..what i did was right click my network places and disabled the LAN.coz win xp was choosing my LAN as default.once i disabled it it chose my athena and wala i got internet sharing.hth
I have an issue with my VZW Touch Pro not being recognized by MDC and have torn out what little hair I had left trying to solve it. I know there are numerous threads of this type and I've read every one I can find but my situation is a bit different (aren't they all ).
Basically, when I hook up the TP via USB to my Vista machine MDC doesn't come up. If I launch it manually it comes up, sometimes flashes the "Connecting" message very briefly then goes to "Not Connected" and sits. OK. So why am I baffled and what have I done? Well....
1. If I set the TP to connect as a "Disk Drive" (as opposed to ActiveSync) Vista recognizes it and asks me if I want to explore files and folders, I can see the storage card;
2. In PC to USB I've tried both WITH Advanced Device Configuration enabled and not enabled;
3. I've installed Activesync on another (XP) machine to see if the TP will connect to it and get the same behavior;
4. I've removed the Remote Adapter and USB Synch in Device manager (following the standard MS troubleshooting guide) so that Vista installs the USB driver, just to make sure;
5. I INITIALLY installed MDC on this machine when I was trying an HTC Fuze. At that time MDC worked fine, recognizing the Fuze and asking me what I want to sync, etc.;
6. Since that time I've uninstalled and reinstalled MDC (several times) JUST IN CASE, although it shows NO existing partnerships;
7. I've turned off and actually removed the firewall even though, as I said, MDC worked fine before.
8. On the TP I've set ActiveSync (I'm hooking to an Exchange Server) to sync "Manually" and Windows Live to sync "Manually", JUST IN CASE that was the problem.
The only reason I really even NEED MDC is that I want to use eWallet and need to sync between the PC and Touch Pro.
I've used the TP as a modem for my laptop via Modem Link successfully, but while ML is set to USB the service is Stopped. Would THAT have any affect on this: one thing I've noticed is that when I plug the TP in the PC (sometimes) displays a message to the effect that it's trying to connect to a wireless LAN?????
Sorry for the length of this message but I figure the more info the better and this really has me stumped.
Thanks for any ideas.
if this helps yo in any way here it is.
i tryed to hook up my TP via WMDC on a Toshiba Tecra Laptop, with USB or Bluetooth and in the best case i managed to send files via bluetooth ... and the WMDC does not recognize the device, it installs some drivers for the cable (i think) and does not find any for the device, so ... it does the same thing as for you, tryes to connect for a second and after that it goes on a endless brake ... never connecting
on the other hand, i had no problems with a dell inspiron, with wista, it installed the drivers instantly and got connected immediately. the same with a Win XP dektop PC using activesync ...
i`m beggining to believe that the software is sort of defective on the toshiba. now i just send file from it and us the dell to sync my TP. i gave up on connecting the toshiba.
Pretty sure you have already tried this...but different USB cord maybe?

Thank you!! Solved my problem.
This seems to happen a lot... I just replied to another post in regards to this (though they replaced their Touch Pro). Instead of disabled advanced network functionality (which does let you sync), you should try this to repair the error as it has worked on a friend's Pro, as well as mine (I just had to do it 40 minutes ago). And make sure you re-enable advanced network functionality BEFORE doing this:
1 - Hook up phone to computer
2 - On phone, start ICS (Internet Sharing in Start -> Programs)
3 - Select PC Connection "USB" and Network Connection of any type (if Sprint stock ROM, I recommend using "Sprint")
4 - Hit the "Connect" soft-key (bottom left)
If you've never used Internet Sharing on the phone, your computer should install some drivers... Once that is completed, click the Disconnect left soft-key on the phone. Now disconnect the cable from the computer.
Close out ICS or soft-reset the phone.
Once the phone is back up, plug it in - it should work.
I don't know what is getting reset in the phone, but unless I connect with ICS, then ActiveSync will not connect whether I soft-reset or not.
Hi,
I have a problem with my hd2. when I connect it to my pc windows7 x64 i can not choose the connection type. Always it show to me "internet sharing" window. In usb to pc I have checked "Ask me first about USB connection type when I connect the device to the PC" but it doesn't help. Also when I try to open "usb to pc" window, the "internet sharing" window is opened at first. How can I solve this problem?
Settings > Micellaneous > USB to PC connection, choose on either Active Sync or Disk Drive.

Did you uncheck the "enable faster synchronization" option? Might help with getting ActiveSync to start working.
HD2 not recognized by Windows XP
Hi, I have similar problem, when I attach my HD2 to PC (windows XP with Active Synch installed), notting happens apart form my phone start being charged.
The option on the HD2 to ask always what to do is unabled but nothing happens.
Unable fast data synch is disabled.
The phone is not visible even as external drive in Explorer.
In Device Manager on PC there is nothing strange (what I should look here for??!!).
The strange thing is in the past this HD2 was working perfectly with another PC...
When plugged it was presenting disk drive or active synch ooption and was visible in Explorer..
What I should do?
I have a same problem. Since a few days my phone just charging on USB. I booted an android and the USB was working fine, so I decided to update the Winmo rom (Miri 23.0v). Nothing happened. I update/downgraded the rom and radio (from 2.10 to 2.14) as well but the issue still exists. It can be a hardware related problem because the android is working fine. Any idea?
connection problem
I am experiencing the exact same problem. my phone gets charged through the usb but doesn't connect to active sync or as disc drive. doesn't even ask about usb connection type even though its checked.
another problem i am having is that when i open the phone dialer it opens in the landscape mode.
Both problems occurring with Win Xp/7 on PC and Winmo 6.5 1.66/3.14 on HD2
Somebody please help!!!
So judging by the quick search, many people have this problem on many different phones, and no solution was found.
I know I've had this problem with my old SGS 1, and even Nexus One.
Same problem on my SGS II, tethering to many different desktops and laptops.
So it seems to be android-specific, or Windows specific problem, really.
Basically, when you tether with USB, first several minutes all is well and speed is good, but in about 5-10 minutes, traffic from the phone just stops.
Phone still shows tethering ON, PC still thinks it's connected, but nothing loads, it doesn't disconnect, it just drops to speed or 0 kbps.
The only way to restore it is to disable tether and reconnect.
Anybody has any idea why would this occur and how to prevent it?
Does it say no internet connection on the network indicator on the bottom right of the notification center? My guess is your carrier has an issue with tethering. I see your on AT&T. Do they have a plan that is specifically for tethering?

No internet connectivity loss is indicated in windows, it still thinks it has a good internet connection. I'm assuming that after a while, it will detect that although there's a connection, there's no actual traffic flowing through it, and will say that there's an issue... but for a long time, it's simply as if I'm connected, but actual speed is at 0kbps.
Browser tries to load pages and times out in 10-30 seconds.
Unfortunately (or fortunately) this definitely doesn't have anything to do with AT&T. I have unlimited grandfathered plan with AT&T and a custom rom, AT&T has no idea that I'm tethering. Internet on the phone is still working fine.
I kinda feels as if the usb tether drivers in windows (RDIS or whatever it's called) simply gives up after a while. Or maybe it's the android tether process that "forgets" what it's supposed to be doing.
you are running a stock ROM right?

Nope, latest CheckROM.
But as I've said, I had same problem with Captivate and other ROMs on SGS2 =(
i haven't found a custom rom where tethering fully works....thats why i went back to stock
Have the same problem on BOTH my Huawei ideos U8150 and my HTC sensation.
My wirelessly tethered devices still work flawlessly but my USB tethered desktop disconnects after a few minutes. Screen time out set to Max in case something in the phone went to sleep but no difference. Definitely not a network problem as my operator confirmed but an android (or windows problem) .
I even set USB Port power settings to always stay awake.
Hope we can find a solution to this.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
i got the same problem under ICS. tried on stock ZSLPE and custom XXLPQ firmwares. both do not work!
my stock gingerbread was able to work flawlessly without disconnection problem on the same pc. wtf is happening?!
I have Samsung Galaxy S Plus.
I am facing exactly the same problem.
Have tried different ROM's around 5, 3 were custom ROM's.
Looks like Android OS issue.

I had this problem on both my Samsung Charge(Stock app 2.3.6), and my Motorola Razr(Stock app 4.0.4). I believe it is a driver issue inside windows. It seems less of a problem on the Motorola phone as I get a few hours of USB tether before it exhibits the same problem whereas the charge started after a couple of minutes. ie. Phone has data and can access web, computer thinks its connected to the web and okay, but any attempts to connect to the internet from the pc fails.
The wireless tether works fine and does not exhibit the same issues so I would suggest you use wifi tether. I don't know if wifi tether uses more or less power than usb tether (assuming your phone is connected to computer and charging). If I get some more free time in the next few weeks I might try and do an analysis.

I've had this problems with pretty much every Samsung phone I had.
I have HTC One X now, and it doesn't have this problem. So something with Samsung drivers, I think.
Cool fact - HTC even has a one-click reverse tethering. So cool.
I have the same problem, but can't find out, where (windows or android) is it.
What I have:
Motorola Atrix (rooted with SuperOneClick, stock ROM)
PC with Windows XP x64 without WIFI
The only RNDIS drivers I could find was HTC RNDIS (for XPx64)
Situation:
I'm living in hostel for one month, and there is only WIFI internet here, so I tried to get my phone WIFI to tether into USB
What have I done:
Connected to WIFI over phone.
Turned USB tethering ON.
By default WIFI is not tethered to USB, so I found that turning USB tethering ON creates usb1 network and WIFI is eth0. Then I configured NAT by iptables on my phone to accept and forward connection from PC (usb1) to WIFI (eth0). [usb0 on Atrix is for Motorola Portal, didn't try yet to connect to internet throught portal connection, not USB tethering]
The problem in short:
At the begining everything works fine. But when many connection threads are opened (didn't look for that many count) connection stops. As it was already mensioned, PC thinks it is connected, on phone USB tethering is still ON, even more - ifconfig still shows the connection. The only diffrenece is that "ping 192.168.42.129 -t" on PC (192.168.42.129 is usb1 IP on phone) starts showing "Request timed out" messages. On the other side - from my phone, I cannot ping my PC either. So connection is like broken, no traffic can be passed, but both sides sees they are ON.
After turning off USB tethering, PC sees connection is off immediately and the Local Area Connection #23 is gone. After turning on USB tethering everything comes back to the beginning.
Current workaround (for me):
I am using VPS service, so I open dynamic SSH tunnel over putty, and use it as my SOCKS5 proxy. The worst thing is that not all programs can use proxies, and when I use such program it tries to crash my connection.
Sorry for my english, it is foreign language for me, if anything is not understandable or you need more test from me, please ask, I will try to do my best.

Hi,
I had the same problem with my Android Phone - P999 running Cyanogenmod 7.2
I had to go into usb debugging screen to adjust the Display power Settings to - Always ON when Charging - Option.
There is probably some power setting in your device that allows you to do that as well.
Basically Power Saving (Screen Off) Powers OFF the Tether.
Ensuring the Screen is ON while Charging (it charges while plugged into a usb port) ensures the Tether stays ON ALL the TIME!
Hope this helps you.
Took me quite awhile of messing around to find the right option.
I do have a similar problem but it's not time-dependant.
Phone:
Nexus 4 mako
AOKP JB-MR1 Build 6
franco kernel 3.4.0 build #121
Situation:
I use FolderSync to backup my sdcard to my Windows 7 FTP server. The reason for doing this over USB Tether is that I get speeds at around 14MB/s instead of 1,2MB/s over WiFi.
I noticed that it doesn't really matter how long tether is connected and nothing really happens as long as FolderSync is scanning the folders on the ftp server at low bandwidth. However once a larger file is transferred the connection is almost sure to break and show the symptoms described by the other posters (interface still up, just no packets being received at either end).
So I assume that some driver (either on Android or Windows) chokes on certain packets and then just dies. Anyone got an Idea how to tell which device causes the problem to investigate further?
I also noticed that if I had ADB enabled before starting USB Tether that the tether connection on the android will be disabled once the failure occurs.
I have problem with my realme c2 when i connect it to pc via usb tethering, it connects it running ok. if i make screen on by playing youtube or any video on it run but as soon as screen sleep it disconnect after some time
I'm a bit late to this, but for anyone else still having this problem:
in Developer options of my phone(Redmi note 11) under Networking, there is an option called "Always keep mobile data on". Turning this on should fix the issue
@Denav
This doesn't work for me. I have a Moto G Power 2021 and that option is already checked.

Were you able to figure out the issue? I'm having trouble as well. Mine disconnects after a certain time period and the times seems to be random. I've played around with the dev options and other cables and still having same issue. It seems to happen with mac and windows laptops.
Amazfit Stratos not connecting with Macbook pro via android file transfer. the watch is charging but not showing on Macbook, Is there a way to rectify it, and how do i access the storage and delete the music from the stratos.
Are you using the original charger? Third party ones may not work for data transfers. If you are sure that your charger is fine, either check System Information -> USB to make sure the device is connected correctly. AFT sometimes hangs here, but disconnecting and reconnecting the watch fixes the problem without the need to restart my watch.

How do you know it's not accessible? Did you try adb and/or Android File Transfer? Does it work with another computer?
I have the same problem. Did you find the solution?
Just make sure that cradle (original charger) correctly snap in. No problem here with android file transfer, commander one, apkinstaller, adb or fastboot.
Same issue and I am using the only original charger there is. I am using the Android file transfer program directly downloaded from Amazfit website. Followed instructions 100% as written. Nothing.
If pressing the watch firmly after checking if both metallic pins on watch and cradle are clean, and also checked with another cradle and/or USB port, most probably it's due to an internal problem. You can still transfer files manually to and from watch using WiFi, probably there is a tutorial elsewhere about it.
I think this is a problem with the MacOS rather than the Amazfit. My Amazfit watch is recognised instantly in Android File Transfer, but AFT won't recognise my smartphone anymore. It used to work great, but suddently stopped working. I've tried all kinds of solutions and nothing works.
My watch has a terrible data connection with my mac as well. I think the contacts on the charging cradle don't work too well, because it maintains the connection if I hold it in the cradle tightly.
An easier solution is to go completely wireless. Turn on developer settings by tapping the build number. Then you should be able to get an adb connection over WiFi. Install File Manager +. It's got an ftp server that lets you transfer files directly.
