NEW PROBLEM ON T-MOBILE ROM 1.60 ON XDAII - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I have i-mate (( XDAII ))
my rom is T-Mobile 1.60.00
i can't restore my last backup witch i was do it after upgrading
i'm suring for that, plaese try that then help meeeee
i'm waiting for you

That's right, you can't restore the backup you made with the old ROM version.
The backup software sees your machine as another device.
Just reinstall the software you had on it and resync Outlook, should be no big problem.
Best thing to do if you want to upgrade, is copying al the documents that are on you XDA and are not synced to your PC.
You could go back to the old ROM, restore your backup, copy the items you need and upgrade again.

Restoring backed up files / old ROM after upgrading ROM

Hello
I'm just wondering before I try to upgrade my XDA II (from O2, with original ROM etc.) to the new ROM version available from O2... What would happen if I restored a previous (ActiveSync) backup after upgrading... would it restore the device to the old ROM version and everything, keep the new ROM version but restore my programs and files, or parts of both?
And if it doesn't restore the old ROM version, is it possible to do this?
The main reason I want to know is because synchronizing with ActiveSync does not include all my text messages, which I want to keep, and I would like to make sure that I can at least fully restore my device to the state it was in before if I do try upgrading (and possibly backing up the text messages using a third party program) in case anything goes wrong or gets lost.
Thanks
It won't work unfortunatly.
You should avoid restoring the old backup. Strange things happen if you do, from a device that won't boot after a soft reset, to completely dead (blank screen on reset).
I've just found the sourceo2 website with the XDA II Launch ROM... If I installed this ROM on my XDA II again after upgrading, would I be able to restore my backups then?
Yes if you installed the previous rom then you can restore your backup.
Thanks

Backup/Restore after ROM/RadioStack/EXTROM UPGRADE/DOWNGRADE

:?: I think I have done my homework, having searched the Forums for help here, but I am still boggled.
I enjoy trying out the new ROM's and Radios as they come out, but am tired of resetting everything on my machine after each upgrade/downgrade. I understand that it is unsafe to backup and then restore to a different ROM version, but need some stratgey to minimize continued reloading and resetting everything each time I upgrade/downgrade.
Questions: If changing only a Radio Stack version, leaving the ROM and EXT ROM versions unchanged, can I do a full backup and then restore safely?
I am also confused as to what the best, most complete backup method might be. I have too many options. Backup in Activesync, import expoert databases, xBackup or Permenant Save on XDA II, .reg backup from reg editor?
Is there another program that is better than any of these options?
Would one of you XDA II Wizards help out us novice apprentices and post a tutorial explaining the real story about backup/restore when switching ROMS and Radio Stacks? Your efforts would be appreciated.
Steve :?:
I think the best backup/restore application is the Sprite Backup.
I have ab. 65MB in my XDAII memory.
the backup time to 256SD card
- with xbackup: ab. 45-50 minutes
- with Sprite Backup: ab. 15-20 mins
the restore time with Sprite: ab. 6-8 mins
It's restore everything (registry, settings, colours, cleartype...etc)
May the Sprite can changes the ROM version num., but only in the registry, but the XDA is working fine with the new ROM.
! When you backing up by Sprite, don't include the mail boxes, because cannot restore it perfectly, and may you cannot send or recieve SMS,
and need to hard-resetting again!
Try it! Good Luck!
hhmmm it may be me but i havent seen any stand alone radiostack upgrades for xda2's and if you manage to put a xda1 radiostack on your xda2 device you got a brand new hitec doorstop on your hands i would suspect
like with the xda1 i would say that radiostacks should never be changed unless ones cellphone company advice it and are willing to help out should it go horrably wrong
with roms you can change and reflash and such but with radiostacks its not anywhere near as easy to get out of a tigth spot
about backup then i suppose it depend on what you want to backup
permenent save only save contacts and appointments and connections settings and such
kinda like if you just sync with outlook
the different backup programs plus the activesync in outlook are a different matter
if you change your rom then i would not restore a backup from the older rom
since a backup is all changed and programs and settings added to the device since hardreset
since you are talking about a new rom then some settings may not be there anymore and some programs may not be there default and such
restoring a backup from an older rom could result in you having to do a hardreset because of a lockup or just a less stable pocketpc

Problems with New Official ROM

Following are problems I encounter:
1. This happened to me twice, my Owner PlugIn was lost in Today. Please send me the Registry for the Owner PlugIn, I'll just input it manually if possible. If I hard reset, it will come back but I don't want to reinstall again my programs.
2. Restoring from SPB backup will corrupt your O2SMSPlus. Have you experience the same?
2. I don't care what SPB says, restoring from an older ROM to a newer ROM is bad for your health! Or at least for your WM device's health. Don't do it, just restore contacts and that stuff from active sync and reinstall programs.
Thank you Mastiff for the reply. I did reinstall all the programs from scratch and not from restoring backup after the upgrade. The problem actually happens after restoring backup made from the new ROM. O2SMSPLUS is being corrupted by the restoration.

Backing UP / Extracting Up Current Rom

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, i've had a look round but couldn't see anything.
Is there a way to backup or extract my current O2 UK Rom? I totally srewed my motherboard last time i tried to use another rom on my xda orbit as it wasn't cid unlocked. doh! Anyway i've had my motherboard replaced by O2 and was planning to get my device CID unlocked and install another rom but i would like a backup of the original O2 UK Rom just in case it all goes pair shaped.
Oh yeah forgot to mention that i currently use spb backup to backup my device but i dont think you can restore the image from the bootloader menu.
Thanks in advance.
Paul
XDA Atom Backup
1. Run an upgrade (until the first screen where it says extracting... blahblah) without connecting your phone into your PC
2. Open the directory C:\Windows\Temp
3. you will see all files needed for upgrade including the fresh clean ROM. (they are hidden so you should set your folders setting to view hidden files.)
4. Save your personal settings on your phone using standard backup software like Spb Backup or Sprite Backup.
5. Now you're ready to flash your device!
Cheers!

Fixing contacts in WM 6 on Hermes

I have the Softbank Hermes X01HT. I have upgraded to WM 6 from WM5. After upgrade my contact wont appear when I press contact on the right bottow corner ( after I restore from SPB back up). The sim manager wont help also.
Could you all please let me know how solve this?
Thanks.
D
dont restore using a full backup as you are just trying to replace wm6 files with wm5 files that spb backup has saved which is probably why you cannot restore the backup.
Unselect the system section of the backup. You will probably need to clear storage first then select only the pim data to restore and see if this works.
If that doesnt work then you should re flash your wm5 rom and then restore your backup with spb, this time using the full restore option. Then use this file to backup your pim data (contacts, appointments and messages, speed dials etc)
http://rapidshare.com/files/85563377/ppcpimbackup_v2.8.rar
you can then reflash your new rom and restore all your pim info, you will have to re install your applications though. But once you have installed everything you can create a new backup with spbbackup
