I've been using the pre-release T-Mobile ROM and upgraded radio stack from yorch.net for a few days now with no problems at all. I performed a soft reset on the device to show our tech support staffer the "not for sale" disclaimer and instead the device went dead.
now, no flashing light, reset button has no effect, and a hard reset doesn't do anything, either. Any ideas? I really don't want an expensive paperweight, and wm2003 with the new radio stack had been operating perfectly... please help!!!
If you have tried turning off the battery by pushing the unscrewed end of the stylus in the lower right recess then pushing it in again after one minute and you get nothing then you either have a dead battery, a duff charger or a defunct xda, things do die suddenly but I never heard of a soft reset damaging a machine, the other thing to check is that the reset button is not jammed.
good news for me... the reset button did end up being jammed. I was perplexed, because I'd never heard of a soft reset killing a PPC, either. thanks!
Glad to have helped.

Hi...im a n00b here but really need help
ok...i tried upgrading my SX56 to 2003 thru siemens website. I followed directions like it told me. I put the phone in its cradle, didnt pick up any calls (nor did i recieve any calls), and then BAM...it got stuck at 10% for like 30mins - 1 hour. so i was like, umm ok. it froze?
i then took it off the cradle and did a soft reset hoping it would fix the problem....but yet, i was wrong...it doesnt show anything. so i proceed to make a Hard-Reset. now its totally screwed.
is my device gone for good?
well, i then reinstalled my ROM using the Program i found here at this site. I used the SD-Card method. I put the files in my card, insert it into the device, and held down the power button while performing a soft reset. This is where i got to the FLASHING screen where i think its copying the files to my phone? well, after this was finished, it told me to make a COLD reset. i assumed it meant soft reset, so i did.
now, here the window screen shows
all it is showing is
G
R
A.30.09
that's it? and it stays like that. can sumone help me plz
I got the same problem. Check my posts, I'll check yours. It sucks not having the P/PC and only the bootloader. I still have not fixed my phone and my day of optimism is comming to an end. My fear of having a dead phone is slowly creeping up. Anyway, good luck with your problem. Val.
A cold reset means you unscrew the top of your stylus and insert it into the tiny hole on the bottom right of your xda, the one with the red mark on, press once which will disconnect battery power, leave for one minute, press again will switch it back on. This always needs to be carried out following rom upgrade.

Help Guys,
My Power Button is not functioning, when its on i cant turn off the screen by pushing the power button, I have to wait until it shuts down by itself.
and when it shuts down i cant turn it on again by pushing the powr button.
my way to circumvent this is by not enabling the key lock and by pressing any the other keys when its in sleep mode.
I Tried soft reset but it hard resets even if i didnt press the power button.
Should i send it back to HK?
I have the following:
XdaII
ROM ver 1.52.00WWE
Radio Ver 1.05.14
yeah it sounds like there is something wrong with the powerbutton switch
your problem may due to power botton is hang. i used to encounter with that problems. First is due to Battpack when i use shut-down button in Battpack, it's hang. when i soft reset it turn to hard reset. For sure, you need to uninstall any programs that interfere with button mapping and try to use for a period. IF Problems still persist, you should return it to your vendor.
tumtum,
I have the exact problem, but even doing a hard reset and installing only default programs (fresh install) my power button still does not fuction.
What else can i do besides removing sofware?
Help pls.
THanks,
there should be problem with oiwer-button. Like i said earlier, it should be problem with your device. You must return your device to your vendor and check for power-button. somebody in my town has been faced with that problem and he return it to the shop. Shop said it is rpoblem with power-button.
well the thing is..
today i let my friend press the button and whala it worked!
dont know how it happend by now it works fine
thanks for the replies
looks like you'll be spending pretty much time with your friend then
Ditto...
I currently have this problem, my xda II was dropped (by a so-called friend!) it was in a metal case thank god so theres no obvious damage. later that day a program crashed... so i soft reseted it. unfortunately it didnt it HARD RESET i pondered why then tried to turn my device off! with no avail... so b4 it gets repaired (under warranty) I took the black plastic off the back to see if the button was stuck under the casing.... when i peeled it off i looked for the button... it wasnt even there! altho theres no sign of damage wat so ever (no scratches or marks) on the casing, the power button has been clearly wipe
off the circuit board!! if u shake it u can hear it rattling in the depths of the XDA and now its off it doesnt hard reset on a soft reset anymore thank god! im fed up off re-customizing the damn thing and my nearest shop 4 repairs is 8 miles away :-( (brought on the net) so all in all maybe thats the same problem a few of u are experencing Good luck C2k4...

Hi Friends,
I screwed my HTC Hermes power button while trying to fix its earlier problem.
Now to turn the backlight on ..i changed the settings and I can now use any button to bring it out of Sleep mode....
I used a program available on this site to enter bootloader.
However, the problem remains when "power button" is to be pressed.
Any advice on how to get over the "Press power button" to start the ROM flashing....

There is a sticky at the top of this forum for flashing with a broken power button if you have a Himalaya. I am not sure if the same process would work for a Hermes or not, but I would be interested to know if it does. If you power button is still intact though it may not be worth breaking it to find out!

My friend's xda2 is currently dead, won't power, red light when charging. He said all he did was take his sim card out and put in a sim card of his friend when he was in Prague and the unit just died.
I have been playing with it, changed batteries, etc, and nothing.. anyone else have this happen, any ideas or is it going back to the factory for him?
Thanks!

Have you tried doing a Hard Reset? By holding POWER+SOFTRESET.... One day I thought my MDA 2 is dead also playing PocketMVP then suddenly just go blank, no lights, reset doesn't work, try to put on a cradle but no lights that saying its charging so I did a HARD RESET and it came back to life... Wheeew! that scared me..
Guys does anyoneknows if doing a SOFT RESET bad for the device?
How about HARD RESET is it good or bad if you always have to do it?
I hope this revive you device.
Well like I said its for a friend, so I'm not going to kill myself over this, but if I can fix it for him, great! I tried the hard reset, tried taking the battery out, nothing, I guess I can try and run down the reserve on it and maybe after like 30 mins the thing will come to life?...
fingers crossed
Have you tried fiddling with the little red sliding switch inside the battery compartment? I have seen some posts that indicate some of these switches are a bit flakey. If the switch was not actually switching from backup to main battery, I can see how this behavior could be manifested.
Give it a try . . . what can it hurt?
Hi Guys,
My device has locked up again this morning. Totally and fully, for the second time in as many weeks. I've had it for over a year now and it has been working fine for the most part.
Anyway, today for a second time the device froze on me. I used the power button to switch it off. Now, the power button does nothing. The soft reset button does nothing too. I can't even hard reset by holding the power button and pressing the soft reset button at the same time. Now the screen if off and the device is completely unresponsive - it is fully charged and it worked first thing after i woke up this morning., after which time I connected to GPRS, checked my email and then started Skype for Pocket PC. That was when it froze and stayed frozen.
My ROM version is 1.72, upgraded from 1.58 ( I think ) about 5 months ago (and I regret doing this, as my battery life dropped from 5 hours to 3 hours per day).
Can anyone suggest how to revive the device other than pulling the batter out and leaving it out for a while?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Paul
Hi
Hello there,
Well, I've got an i-mate as well, and it was 1.5x too, then got it upgraded to 1.72, but never noticed this battery life issue (i felt it was already very short as I used to have 4 days on 6310i) .
Anyway, I suggest you try to get it into the bootloader mode (by pressing the action button, while performing a hard reset). This will get you into that black screen where it is written (serial or usb, v.1.0x). After that, you can try to perform a normal hard reset, without pressing the action button this time.
note that you will loose the data on it as you are performing a hard reset.
Hope it works, good luck.
Thanks for your reply.
Just one question for you - which button is the action button?
You see, I have tried pressing the power button together with every other button (individually) and pressing in the reset switch with the stylus, without any response whatsoever.
Finally, I did what worked the last time - I removed the main battery and left it out for a few minutes. After re-inserting the battery the iMate came back to life and now all the buttons work again as they should. I restored my self extracting sprite backup and I'm back normal.
So, which button combination should have unconditionally reset the device?
Thanks,
Paul
The action button is the centre of the 4 way rocker/navigation key.
so recently my htc hd2 started having problems.. the bottom 4 buttons seem to stay lit 24/7 when the phone is on even when in standby how can i make the phone go back to how it used to be ? i tried soft reset nothing..
Did you pull the battery? Hard reset?
yes i pulled battery and also did a factory reset , still does it. starting to think phone is defective as nothing i do will fix this problem. any advice? my phone is under warranty and i have insurance on it
