Hi Guys,
My device has locked up again this morning. Totally and fully, for the second time in as many weeks. I've had it for over a year now and it has been working fine for the most part.
Anyway, today for a second time the device froze on me. I used the power button to switch it off. Now, the power button does nothing. The soft reset button does nothing too. I can't even hard reset by holding the power button and pressing the soft reset button at the same time. Now the screen if off and the device is completely unresponsive - it is fully charged and it worked first thing after i woke up this morning., after which time I connected to GPRS, checked my email and then started Skype for Pocket PC. That was when it froze and stayed frozen.
My ROM version is 1.72, upgraded from 1.58 ( I think ) about 5 months ago (and I regret doing this, as my battery life dropped from 5 hours to 3 hours per day).
Can anyone suggest how to revive the device other than pulling the batter out and leaving it out for a while?
Thanks for your help in advance.
Paul
Hi
Hello there,
Well, I've got an i-mate as well, and it was 1.5x too, then got it upgraded to 1.72, but never noticed this battery life issue (i felt it was already very short as I used to have 4 days on 6310i) .
Anyway, I suggest you try to get it into the bootloader mode (by pressing the action button, while performing a hard reset). This will get you into that black screen where it is written (serial or usb, v.1.0x). After that, you can try to perform a normal hard reset, without pressing the action button this time.
note that you will loose the data on it as you are performing a hard reset.
Hope it works, good luck.
Thanks for your reply.
Just one question for you - which button is the action button?
You see, I have tried pressing the power button together with every other button (individually) and pressing in the reset switch with the stylus, without any response whatsoever.
Finally, I did what worked the last time - I removed the main battery and left it out for a few minutes. After re-inserting the battery the iMate came back to life and now all the buttons work again as they should. I restored my self extracting sprite backup and I'm back normal.
So, which button combination should have unconditionally reset the device?
Thanks,
Paul
The action button is the centre of the 4 way rocker/navigation key.

am i the only one with this problem. sometimes (2 or 3 times a day) my qtek would just turn itself off when i push the power button (to kill the screen). if i press the power button it just does a cold reset (same effect as pressing the reset button)
am i the only guy with this problem
my radiio is 4.21. i tried several roms from the kitchen but the problem appears in all of them.
another problem that happens sometimes is that when i dissconnect the phone from the cradle it just turns it self off. pressing the on button makes it do a cold reset. is it supposed to do that??!! do i have a hardware problem
The same was happening to me till I upgraded my ROM to AT&T A.30.09 ROM, which is considered to be the best for me (since I've tried all the ROMs here in this site)
thanks i just upgraded to siemens a30.09 rom from the kitchen. lets hope its more stable.
it still goes OFF (sometimes) when i take it out of the cradel
i didn't say what my problem is properly in the very first message. the phone actually goes off by it self when the screen is off after some time
Ohh sorry to hear that! I just tried this ROM on my device & it worked!
Dude, seems you have a hardware problem! :?
Hey!
My Flyer arrived today...i´ve just installed a few apps + another launcher (VT launcher)...and suddenly my stylus button (the one which opens the stylus´preferences) doesn´t work anymore. It´s vibrating, but the pen-chooser doesn´t come up. Now this menu only comes up when using the htc notes app. But it doesn´t work when making a screenshot for example (of course, the flyers IS making a screenshot...but as long as I can´t use the stylus button, I can´t even change the pen-form)
Is there anything I´ve done wrong?
Try restarting the tablet. Don't power off, then on again. Because of the Sense fast boot feature, powering off is not a true reboot. Hold the power button, until the power off options come up, then pick restart.
Not exactly the same, but a few weeks ago I had an instance where the pen seemed to stop working altogether. The pen button was not responsive, and I couldn't write in Notes. I took out the pen battery and put it back, and rebooted the tablet a couple times. Not sure which of those steps did it, but the pen started working again. At first I thought the battery in the pen was dead, after just owning it for a couple months. But seeing as the battery size is a bit odd (AAAA), I didn't have a spare around, so decided the "take out the battery, and put it back" trick first, and now its been working for several weeks. So I think it was just a glitch in the pen or the tablet, not low pen battery.
This has made it...I´ve made some restarts before, but after another restart after reading your post it suddenly started to work again
Thank you very much!
Your welcome! Glad it worked for you.
Had to get my one day old Nokia 800 replaced today.
Got everything setup last night and decided to power it off just to give it a restart. The phone would refuse to power back on. No amount of button pushing/reconnecting to the power would make it start up again. No power, nothing..dead.
I managed to get it to restart after performing the three button reset. No problem I thought maybe just a one off. Turned the phone off and put it on charge overnight and this morning the same problem returned.. Could not power on. This time the reset would not work at all, no matter how many times I tried.
Carphone warehouse swapped it over in store today for another handset. Hopefully I'll have more luck with the replacement.
Edit: already seen someone else mention a similar problem on here. Hope there's not a bigger issue.
How do you perform the three button reset? My phone randomly decided to turn off whilst I was driving and now it wont turn back on
Yes I've been in that spot as well. For five minutes the phone wouldn't respond to any power button press. Long, short, whatever. I was already starting to slide into panic mode when it suddenly came back alive on another short press.
It's not the only hardware problem I've encountered, I also have problems with touchscreen and buttons and a loose part inside the device.
I used Indirect's method, and everything was fine for two days. It was good this morning, but when I tried using it just now, I get nothing. Nothing at all. Completely dead. It's fully charged.
I read through some of the posts, but I'm confused about the different kinds of resets/restores, which buttons to press and hold down and what wipes what. Everyone seems to have a different version of which buttons to press, in varying combinations, to accomplish different things.
I'd like not to have to re-root this thing, so I'm hoping not to have to wipe everything out.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
UPDATE: Okay, I tried holding the power button and the two volume buttons (because I'd read that somewhere), and it started up normally and is fine... still rooted.
Weird.
for future reference if you need to do a hard factory reset hold the N button along with the power button till u see the n on your screen then let go...then do it again repeat the process 8 times
But I am glad to hear you got it working!
I had something similar happen to me last week. It reminded me of the sleep death that early GB ports were causing on cellular devices. The NT would not come out of sleep mode for about an hour, I plugged it into the charger and held down both volume buttons and the power button and it booted up -- like nothing had ever happened.
I have been unable to reproduce this behavior.
yes is just a very nasty annoying sleep death issue
I have had that issue only once so far had to just hold the power button down for a good minute to get it to boot back up for me.
I have almost 21 months old AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717.
ROM: Padawan JB V2 || 4.1.2| 5|31
It was working FINE past 21 months without any single problem. I had kept like NEW condition - no major drop accidents, case from day 1.
Without NO Reason, it just died 2 days ago.
- My phone was running just a bit slow last week and few strange losing Bluetooth connection during calls.
- My original OEM battery was swollen a bit.(Again, tried with other battery to fix the current situation and new battery is on its way for another try.)
Here is the current terrible condition::crying::crying::crying:
1. Won't Boot to OS, it just splash Samsung logo and blank screen
I had tried to go into recovery mode by using hold Power & Vol button => Failed
(I went into the recovery mode menu only ONCE from almost 10-20 times tries but lost power again as soon as menu showed up.)
2. Won't Charge, it just keeps pulsing with blank screen
I had tried remove battery and put it back.=> Still Same
I had borrowed exactly same working battery(from other phone) and tried to boot or boot into the recovery mode=> Still Same
=> This process diagnosis to me that it is NOT the battery problem.(BRAND NEW Battery is on its way.)
I had tried remove battery first, connect power charger(OEM charger) and put battery back based on one of post that I found.
=> Again, just splash the screen of battery charge for 1 seconds then goes blank screen with pulsing again.
NOW, this is the situation and options I could think of...
A. I REALLY DO wants turning on at least once to back up the latest data from phone's memory(eMMC).
(My last backup was 2 months ago, but has 2 months of new data(specially photos of my 2 yr. old daughter):crying:
B. Wish to keep the phone. But worst case, might be time to upgrade since it will cost something I am guessing.
C. Any repair/data backup service estimates along with suggestion of vendors/repair center?
Here are questions that I have now...
Q1. Does it sound/look repairable from this Sudden Death like symptom?
Q2. Is there any way to back up data at current situation without OS turned on?
Q3. How does all possible future attempts by using Recovery mode, Kies of flashing to data?
Doesn't any of these erase my data? (I DO need Pros confirmation on this before I perform anything from now.)
Q4. I read some "sticky power button" which I NEVER see symptom of button problem.
(Few repair tips like CRC one conductive type spray cleaning or replacement parts and video)
Does it seem like my problem?
I am not positive on this button issue on mine based on my last uses that all buttons were working fine until it died.
- my personal opinion seems like main logic board related problem.
:crying: Please help me specially to BACK UP the DATA at least.
PLEASE PLEASE! :crying:
Sounds like a stuck power button to me. Try flicking it with your finger a couple of times.
