XDA2 Dead - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

My friend's xda2 is currently dead, won't power, red light when charging. He said all he did was take his sim card out and put in a sim card of his friend when he was in Prague and the unit just died.
I have been playing with it, changed batteries, etc, and nothing.. anyone else have this happen, any ideas or is it going back to the factory for him?
Thanks!

Have you tried doing a Hard Reset? By holding POWER+SOFTRESET.... One day I thought my MDA 2 is dead also playing PocketMVP then suddenly just go blank, no lights, reset doesn't work, try to put on a cradle but no lights that saying its charging so I did a HARD RESET and it came back to life... Wheeew! that scared me..
Guys does anyoneknows if doing a SOFT RESET bad for the device?
How about HARD RESET is it good or bad if you always have to do it?
I hope this revive you device.

Well like I said its for a friend, so I'm not going to kill myself over this, but if I can fix it for him, great! I tried the hard reset, tried taking the battery out, nothing, I guess I can try and run down the reserve on it and maybe after like 30 mins the thing will come to life?...
fingers crossed

Have you tried fiddling with the little red sliding switch inside the battery compartment? I have seen some posts that indicate some of these switches are a bit flakey. If the switch was not actually switching from backup to main battery, I can see how this behavior could be manifested.
Give it a try . . . what can it hurt?

i really need help :(

Hi...im a n00b here but really need help
ok...i tried upgrading my SX56 to 2003 thru siemens website. I followed directions like it told me. I put the phone in its cradle, didnt pick up any calls (nor did i recieve any calls), and then BAM...it got stuck at 10% for like 30mins - 1 hour. so i was like, umm ok. it froze?
i then took it off the cradle and did a soft reset hoping it would fix the problem....but yet, i was wrong...it doesnt show anything. so i proceed to make a Hard-Reset. now its totally screwed.
is my device gone for good?
well, i then reinstalled my ROM using the Program i found here at this site. I used the SD-Card method. I put the files in my card, insert it into the device, and held down the power button while performing a soft reset. This is where i got to the FLASHING screen where i think its copying the files to my phone? well, after this was finished, it told me to make a COLD reset. i assumed it meant soft reset, so i did.
now, here the window screen shows
all it is showing is
G
R
A.30.09
that's it? and it stays like that. can sumone help me plz
I got the same problem. Check my posts, I'll check yours. It sucks not having the P/PC and only the bootloader. I still have not fixed my phone and my day of optimism is comming to an end. My fear of having a dead phone is slowly creeping up. Anyway, good luck with your problem. Val.
A cold reset means you unscrew the top of your stylus and insert it into the tiny hole on the bottom right of your xda, the one with the red mark on, press once which will disconnect battery power, leave for one minute, press again will switch it back on. This always needs to be carried out following rom upgrade.

Totally Dead, completely dead, no life, won't power up

Folks,
Numerous searches later I still can't find a thread I thought I read here a month ago. My topic id is to help anyone else find this info. if they need it.
Anyway, I recently hard-reset my Wallaby pw10b1 and it never came back!
I've hard-reset it consistently for the last few months, no problems. This time it went out and stayed out.
Any thoughts on getting it powered back on?
I tried getting into Bootloader but there is no response, no life whatsoever.
There are 3 contact points under a rubber gasket on the back are these Battery tests? How do you cross them to get the battery to reset?
Thanks
had a similar problem, I've removed the battery for 5-10 minutes and when I reinserted it the device powered up as if after a hard reset.
Totally dead

I have a similar problem. I tried to charge the battary it is completely dead with a red color on the charging led. I read in the manual removing the battary must done by survice. Is there anyproblem I should be aware of with removing the battary and reinserting it as you did? Thanks.

Prophet goes down

Hi All,
My Prophet just died...
I made a RadioROM upgrade and after a reboot I did an IPL upgrade. I did a soft reset and now it doesn't want to turn on. I'm really confused what did I make wrong and how can I redo it.
I'm looking forward to a helpful info.
Thanks
Does your screen stay black or does it display anything? Can you enter bootloader? And why would you want to upgrade your IPL???
My screen is dark black, I can not even turn it on. I doesn't matter what sort of switch I press on the dev. So I can't see the bootloader and I think it's a serious problem...
After the IPL upgrade the reboot was succesful and on the startup screen it says IPL 2.20.0001 and worked for a while.
I've changed my local settings, which reqiures a soft reset, so I did it. After this, no aswer...
I'm very dissapointed because of the pda and your help dear all...
Is your battery dead? Try it with your charger.
No, my battery was fully charged before I ran into this major problem...
I had a similar issues which was misteriously resolved after a few plug ins and battery removals. I also let the battery completely drain and removed it from phone for a few hours. It worked when connected to wall charger but not with battery. It seemed like interior phone battery was dead. One day I connected it to the wall charger and the battery status when from zero to 98% and it stayed there. Really weird stuff. I ordered another battery and so far so good. One of the batteries did die and i discarded it, but I still use the other old battery plus I have a new spair.
Yamilrx, thanks the info...
I'll try it, but I've lost my faith in this device. It's in clinical dead state for 2 days from now, and it looks like doesn't want to wake up or alive.
This is a very misteroius issue.
I don't understand it, if I upgraded wrongly somebody tell me, why was the device started after? And if it was a wrong update, how can I turn it on and make calls, etc. and after a soft reset it DOESN'T reply for anything?!
I bought it almost 2 years ago, so I assume the battery could cause similar problem. But it was almost fully charged. The Star Wars was less incredible then this thing...
Except this, I'll accept your advice. I'm going to try it.
try the following, as your device is dead and curently noy useable.
-remove the battery for a day and just leave it there
- put in the battery and connect the charger
- hold your camera button while turning the device on
do you get into the 3 colored screen? if so, the device can now be downgraded etc.
particular reason why you have not tried a HARD reset?

Thanks, I'll try it first after go to a shop and buy a battery.
Anyway, when I mentioned I've tried all the combinations of the buttons, I meant i did a hard reset too. But my Spleeping Beauty is still doing the same...
The problem hasn't been solved by the solutions you have mentioned before, so I've called the HTC technical support, they were very friendly - they must be because I'll pay for it - and 2 days from now they will tell me how much does it costs or it is repairable or not...
Thanks for your help.

I did that with mine to see if it would reset device once the internal battery is totally discharged. Like I said earlier, mine came back to live. Make sure you install the WM 5 rom used for downgrading and don't try any of the WM 6 roms until the device is fully functional with wm5. The batteries are $8 on ebay but they take 1 week to get here from Hong Kong.
If winter comes, can sping be far away?
Hi All,
The service technician examined my Prophet and he said, I have to change a mainboard. Have you ever run into this kind of problem? If I want a repair, it'd cost me 300 Euro!!
Luckily I still have a warranty, so I hope I don't have to pay for the service.
Take care your Prophet...

Come on guys
Someone must know how to sort this out??
can it be fixed?
its in warrenty, but not sure if they would be able to tell what i have done
Have you tried just flashing the ROM again?
Can you still enter the bootloader ?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Athena_Resets
Cant see the phone
hi, i cant re-rflash as when i connect to the pc, it does not see it,
thinking the only way im going to get this sorted out is to return it to t-mobile, just hope it would still be under warrenty, anyway i could cover it,
maybe a magnet stuck to it for a few days might help when they check it over??
thanks
just tried hard reset and bootloader reset again, with batter in, charger in, just charger ect
still no rwesponse
just red ring of dead around joystick, when using charger only
Try this, exactly:
- disconnect any cable;
- remove the battery;
- the SIM;
- wait 10 seconds;
- put the battery back;
- enter bootloader (camera button - pressed down all the way - with comm. manager + reset).
If you don't get the bootloader screen (with various color stripes on the screen), then yes, your Athena's unfortunately bricked.
Nooooooooooooooo
nothing at all mate,
but i guess the battery could be flat,
is there no way to get it to power up,
do you think i could send it away under warrenty?

Anyone near you that can lend you a fully charged battery? Alternatively buy a cheap spare battery.
@onkyojonny
Where are you located?
im near ashford in east sussex, and work in london, if someone can sort it out im happy to make a donation ;-)
thanks
Concerning the return, if you're not able to enter even bootloader mode, all that will be left is to return it, but it's indeed true that if they see your SPL's modified, for instance, they might send it back to you with a "sorry" note. :-S
is there noone on this forum that can sort it out??
rather that than send it back,
Bootloader's the absolute minimum that you need to recover from apparent bricking. If you don't, then I don't know of any "software" mean to rescue your Athena, alas.

Hi
I just had this happen to me, but for completely different reasons. I left my Athena on charge for an hour when the battery was at 10%. It then showed 60%. I then wanted to check that my spare battery had some charge, so I swapped battery and got into exactly the same situation that you have, red light on charger and nothing on either battery.
After reading this forum I tried procedure of taking everything out inc. SIM and leaving it for a minute, still no joy on the 1st battery. Left it again for a minute and tried the 2nd battery and it came to life instantly and booted. The 2nd battery reports 100% charge.
I would suggest that you buy / borrow a battery and try it. It is highly frustrating that you can't use the Athena mains only & swap batteries, but you can't, I tried. If you order a battery (I got one for £11, it is a Cameron Sino which have a bad reputation but it lasts all day, can't argue with that) you should get it tomorrow in the post.
I will see if now that it is working the OEM battery works. It may be that it has not charged properly.
Hope you get it working again.

Follow up, yes it worked when I put the OEM battery back in, still with the SIM out. I have now put the SIM back in and the 2nd battery & all OK. Very unscientifically I would say that taking everything out & using a fresh battery seems to have fixed mine.
yes, one of my (aftermarket) batteries produced the same symptoms just yesterday. it was in a near fully discharged state (< 5%)... so i wanted to put it in the athena and charge it. but athena would not turn on, just the red light. charging did not make a difference.
put the other battery back that was in it previously, it booted instantly, then i put the discharged one in and it still booted and then i was able to charge it up.
note: at other cases i can still boot the athena with such a discharged battery, they have enough juice in them, apparently the problem was something else.
...though i have a desktop charger for the thing.. just didn't feel like trying to dig it up. anyway here is a cheap battery AND desktop charger: http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Charger...hZ010QQcategoryZ20350QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
the charger should charge your battery up without having to buy a new battery (except the seller gives you one as a bonus) and hope it has enough charge in it. might help someone hopefully

Not a rip off on postage either - bargain, so just ordered one as a spare.
Thanks for the heads up.

Very Dead Phone... no lights, no camera, no action!

Just a quick question, as I think in my case there is nothing I can do with my 8525. I was going to do my 3rd rom upgrade -- having done 2 successfully before. My battery was at 100 percent (was on a charger up to the time I was ready to flash). I was doing the upgrade via the SD card. I started the upgrade and set the phone down. I looked at it about a minute later, and noticed it was dead -- no lights, no screen, no nothing. I tried to do everything I could, but so far nothing makes the 8525 do anything. I have taken the battery out a full day, plugged it in to electric, plugged into electric and then put in battery. put in battery and then plugged in electric, done all the above with and without a SIM card. Still, no orange or green light, no screen on/flicker, etc. I believe I've killed it, but still not sure why. In any case, shall I throw this away, would a service center fix it, or does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!
Same
Same problem! Please replay anyone what i do?
