Hi!
Anyone fonud out until now where to get the 22pin connector for the MDA/XDA III device? It has changed a bit from the iPAQ 3800 style, so accessoires for I/II won´t work
Furthermore, has the pinout changed?
What I need is a cable for connecting my GPS-reciever, or the parts to build one.
Thanks in advance,
Danyel
OH NO, you are saying that the MDA II accessoried, chargers, etc., won't work with the MDA III?
Well, it looks like that...
I have an USB-sync-cable, car charger and my GPS-reciever. Without forcing the plug it won´t fit into the new connector.
The new one has a gab on one side and two little pits wich fit into gaps in the devices connector.
I´ll post a picture of the old and the new one... MDA III´s camera is not quite good for macro-photos.
Well, I have "reconfigured" my old GPS- and USB-cable. It´s just takeing away some of the plastic on the connector. Both cables work fine for the MDA III now, take a look at the picture:
hey folks,
i try my best english!!!!

i got the qtek2020 from vodafone D2. now i want to plug my usb gps reciever with sirfII chipset to the pda. 5v for the usb power comes from accus. this wouldn't be the problem i think. but how i figure it out which connectors of the pda are the right connectors for die TX and RX of the reciever? and the final question: is this what i want to do (usb pc gps reciever at pda) possible?
if you want t answer me in pm dann auf deutsch ;-)
thanks.

Therefor you´ll need a USB to serial converter, as far as I know.

22 pin adaptor for QTEK 9090
hi, you need original connector you can try with 2020 22 pin but after some days or week you will damage you QTEK 9090 and you not be able to use anymore the connector! i suggest you to buy ORIGINAL see here available : http://www.bluetrade.fr/achat/produit_details.php?id=76226
i hope i'm logged in now!
to dev_dme you missunderstood me? i have an usb gps mouse so i need a seriell one. and there are no converter from seriell to usb.

i think i posted in fals thread. i have a qtek 2020!!!! no 9090.
There are USB to serial converters made by Iogear, search the web. You would have to redue the cable to connect to your Qtek. But since you have bluetooth, though the old one away and get a blue tooth GPS, much nicer.
converters from usb TO seriell but not from seriell TO usb. i'm right?
The USB driver was on laptop to change the port to a serial port but the communication was bidirectional.
You could also look at maxim semiconductors, I know they make a chip that converts serial to USB but I couldn't find it.
http://www.maxim-ic.com
but i need usb to seriel converter..... i want to use an usb device at a seriell port
They have a device, I saw it in EE Times twice (as I said I need that) that will do exactly what your looking for. It would connect to a USB device, takecare of all the protocal and then spit out serial bits of the data. I beleive the formating (USB-serial bin/ASCII, bit ording) was able to be changed via reg settings.
maybe search EE times website.

Well, your GPS mouse is a USB client (slave). You can only connect it to a USB host (master), which the XDA II is not. So you would need an adapter that contains a USB host. As paulmc says, they seem to exist, but seem to work only with "big" Windows (they need drivers), and I am quite sure they are really expensive.
I really recommend you get either a Bluetooth or a regular serial GPS mouse. Both are easy to connect to an XDA II.
Cheers, Daniel

1. There are several. Try www.pocketnavigation.de for a start.
2. There are voltage regulators you can buy. But be very careful, the voltage in a car is full of spikes and other nasty things. You need a good voltage regulator if you don't want to endanger your new Holux. The usual solution is to buy a holder for the PDA that also has a connector for the GPS mouse. This gives you a well filtered voltage for your mouse.
Cheers, Daniel

i cant describe it better in english. damn.....
also i need thias speciial pda connector for the mdaII (aka qtek 2020). where can i buy it for low?
and some more important for me: i need information for the pins. what pin for which signal?
Does anyone know if the pin-setup for the 'blue angel' aka Qtek9090 is different then the 'Himalaya' aka Qtek2020?
I want to connect an external speaker and microphone to it (described here) but i'm not sure if the pin-layout is the same
Thanks!
Grtz,
DUTCH
anyone found the pinout for QTEK9090(Blue Angel) yet ?
please share.
Hallo!
Anyone figured out if pin 19 on the connector still works like described in the pinout? So that if connected to V+ the phone goes to speaker-mode, and if connected to GND it turns to hands free mode for real car kits?
I´d like to modify my GPS cable so that the phone should use its internal hands free... but as long as there is no original car kit there is nothing to look at if it is still wired like for the old ones...
can anyone post the pinout of pda2K ?
and maybe someone know where I can find simple usb cable for it (without the whole cradle)
thanks.

I would really like to know too! I've been f*ckin around with it for weeks now trying to get an external speaker and mic working as a carkit.
Anyone please?
I'd also love to know about pin 19... I'm tempted to try it with a 3 way switch but am reluctant to kill my lovely new toy! I'm posting in case asaf_zm is still looking for a cable - you might try searching for +retractable +cable +xda on eBay - I just found loads at around £6 +p&p. Good luck!
Although... I have spent the past night / day trying to get my retractable cable syncing/charging reliably... There are one almighty number of posts on this forum about sync/charge cables and I suggest any people wanting to buy one do a search first! Mine works, sometimes...
There is a real problem with even the slightest resistance in the soldered joints - caveat emptor! Litz wire (the seriously fine wire used in these things) is not the greatest electrical medium on earth....
Additional: I tied pin 19 high (on a 22 pin connector attached to the phone) and dialled it with no apparent result - it didn't seem to do anything!
Has anyone successfully used this pin to tie in auto speakerphone or use it in a carkit?
Hi,
hve a look at the following posts

Hello,
the folllowing thing happened to me :
- at a certain point i couldn't charge my xda anymore, and so the battery went down. no light appeared when connecting to the charger. and i couldn t start the xda anymore off course.
- i read the articles about the fuse which could be hit; and because i couldn't reach the spare fuse for the external battery, i simply soldered a solder bridge in the place of the fuse, as someone mentioned in another topic. i put everything together, but still, totally dead : no lights.
- now i don't know if this xda is totally lost or if i can do something about it. it could also be the charger which is broken. it doesn't get warm when i put it in the 'wall'. how can i check this ?
- if anybody has hints about what to do next or just trow the thing away, you could make my day ! many thanks in advance.
thomas.
You could try a usb sync charge cable, it maybe the battery has died completely also. Did you test the fuse before bridging the connection? Have you tried using the hard reset button, this is in the hole next to the headphone socket.
- i don't own such a cable, but maybe i can find it somewhere, as the qtek 1010 is not very widely spread in belgium, i could search over the internet instead of a shop.
- i did not test the fuse before removing it and soldering the bridge. which is probably quite stupid of me. the hard reset button didn't do anything and still doesn't.
- the battery could be dead also, but should'nt i see a light flashing when i insert my charger ? so my 'forecast' is that it could be a charger issue.
- maybe i could test it with someone elses charger here in belgium. i live in ghent, so if anyone is from near my place, i am willing tot travel to test your charger. i won't steal it, but then i can buy a new one over the internet.
if anybody has other testing methods for the charger, please let me know.
a simple question : should the charger get hot when plugged in ? because mine doesn't and i don't know if it ever did.
thanks for your answers ! and hoping to reanimate soon.
The charger would normally feel warm when plugged in.
err my charger's pretty cold actually...
Mine is too now that I checked but it gets warm while charging, my ipaq charger is warm when plugged in and not charging, any idea why this should be.
Can anybody help me with the following ?
i'm quite stuck in the thinking concerning the problem ...
is there anybody in europe who has a tech experience with the qtek 1010/xda and thinks he could arrange the problem i mentionned above ?
or is there anyone who knows such a person, because he had the same problem.
I want to let someone look at it, with, off course, a possible compensation in money. Is there anyone who could tell me how much this more or less could cost ? [because i am a student and use the phone mainly for testing purposes]
Thanks in advance !!! t.
Maybe a friend at college has a simple voltage tester you could use to test the charger output, the charger I have has a removable adaptor at the end of the lead, with this removed you are left with a simple barrel type connector which is very easy to test. If you cannot get a replacement charger and yours is faulty, send me a pm, and I will post one to you.
Anyone in europe who can repair my xda 1 ?
Hello,
i'm still stuck with a broken xda, as described above. Is there anyone in europe who has spare parts of the xda and is willing to repair this item ?
It would be great if anyone could help me. Please let me know what arrangments can be made. I am living in Belgium, Ghent.
thanks in advance.
thomas
Testing powersupplie
Hi!
I don't know if this could be helpfull, anyway: If you still think this is a charger-problem, then you could modify your cradle as described in the wiki. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WallabyCradleMod
And another thing as well. I noticed that the main charger is making a loud fuzzing sound when connected to power, so I guess that if your's silent and cold, it might be broken. (Which is not too problematic as it can be easily bought on eBay.)
What power-connectors do you use in Belgium? I have a spare-adapter that I'm not able to use as it does not fit in the Norwegian connectors...
Good luck with the phone!
Same Problem after plugging in my ipaq 3970 gps reciever
I got the Same Problem after plugging in my ipaq 3970 gps reciever, anyone got a clue where to go with this??
iPaq pinouts...
The pin-outs is not the same on the xda and the iPaq, so power in the wrong direction may have damaged the mainboard. And that would be differcult to repair I think!

I asked this question a couple days back in a different section as have yet to get a response so I figured i'd be more specific here.
I require a car charger with 2 mini USB connectors to charge both my GPS and Hermes. Can anyone suggest a supplier please?
Do a ebay search for "car splitter" when i do i get about 31 results as im in australia.
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/12V-Car-Ciga...97QQihZ010QQcategoryZ6775QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I got one of these and have my 838 in one hole and my gpslim in the other. Works a treat.
Just watch out not to play bendies with the cord as mine is now playing up cause i bent it too far but otherwise it works great.
I've not seen a Y-Cable as such..
You can get a cigarette lighter adapter with 2 USB sockets coming out of it, that would do what you want as well.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dual-Port-USB...ryZ14968QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Is it what you are after?
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SPV-M5000-Mi...ryZ48674QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD2VQQcmdZViewItem
Thanks
Thanks to Nick for ur reply but i'm trying to keep the amount of accessories I carry with me down to a minimum so that isn't what I am after.
Thanks sam for ur suggestion, i had spotted one of those before making the post but it wasn't exactly what i was looking for.
Finally thanks very much butpatbut for that link. It meant i actually took the time to read the listing rather than just eliminating it but looking at the picture like I had been doing while trawling ebay before posting the question. It turns out that is exactly what i am after, problem solved.
Thanks again ppl.

You can find a mini-USB power Y cable here:
http://pc-mobile.net/dcadapter.htm
While it will work with Holux, it will not work with Tytn unless you add the mini-USB intelligent power adapter.
Does anybody know if this solution is going to work:
http://www.buygpsnow.com/universal-...dell-x51v-etc-charging-tip-available-856.aspx
They have an optional mini USB tip (p/n DC-S100) that can be attached to the non-usb lead of power supply. Thus we are going to have a dual power adapter with 2 mini usb leads. The only question: is this going to work with TyTn?
i damaged mine xda2 charger socket second time. At first time i found a man, who repaired it, but now he needs the scheme or something like it, becouse he don't know how to link cables. Please help to solve this problem. Sorry for my english, i am from Lithuania.
What for is used the back pack socket ?
can i use backpack socket to charge the pda? Where could i get the principal and montage schemes of xda2? Please help
Everything we know about Himalaya hardware can be found in the wiki.
The backpack socket is for connecting a combination of VGA connector, CF card reader and extra battery pack. It is not capable of charging the device, the connector is not documented.
