GPS Trouble - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

 Hello
Welcome to my nightmare
I finally had a Haicom 204e GPS delivered to me in Pakistan and believe me it was no easy task. Any ways I am using the xda1 and the darn thing does not work. The GPS itself is fine but it seems it does not like the xda and does not talk with it. I cannot seem to open the COM 1 port to which it is connected.
Will really appericiate any advice on the subject

Have you disabled the infrared (beam) of your system?
This is required to get it working....

Com1 is DEAD

hi all,
the problem is the following: my COM1 port is completely dead. no application can initialize it. no application is running in the backgorund. the other COM ports, USB, IR, etc work fine. i didn't do any updates, it just went dead, one morning i wasn't able to connect to my GPS anymore. i already did a hardreset, it didn't help. anyone any ideas? thx in advance!!
Not sure what to say, sounds like a hardware issue to me. Return it for warranty repairs, I'd say...
Wasn't there a hint to turn of the irda to get the COM-Interfaces working?
Just try it. You can't loose anything....
Start->Settings->networks-irda.....

Speaker Turns ON Automatically & No Sound

Hi Folks~
I have an XDA (QTEK 1010) had been working perfectly fine, until yesterday. After taking a call, when I tried to make a call I noticed the Speaker Phone activated automatically. I can't hear anything even the tried to play an MP3 from the Media Player but still didn't work.
Then I plugged in the Hands-Free, could listen to the Sound but the Mic seems to be have been disabled. (Even after plug-in of the Hands-Free, the Speakerphone still remains activated).
Pl. HELP !
Thanks !!
the manual say something about holding down the phone button turn the speaker phone on and off
Doesn't work, I've already tried it
Btw am using the following, pl. let me know if the ROM/Radio Stack Versions have to do something with it
DEVICE : QTEK 1010
Model No.: PW10A1
ROM Version: 3.18.04 ENG
ROM Date: 05/22/03
Radio Version: 3.25.00
Protocol Version: 32S54
Thanks !!
You could back up your data and try a hard reset, a bit drastic I know but its pretty useless as a phone at the moment.
Apologies for the Information in Bit & Pieces (am a newbie).
I've already checked after Soft & Hard Reset to the Device, the problem is still there.
Regards
This is exactly what happened to me back in November, after my little Xavier (an XDA) went for a swim in a flooded gutter.
I'll bet that if you go into the Wallaby BootLoader and try the diagnostics, it'll behave itself.
Unfortunately, the news was not good for me: $1500 to have it repaired.
"Liquid Ingression", they call it. *grumble*
I decided against it. My XDA still works as a soundless PDA (or, as it turns out, a hopelessly overpriced Universal Remote Control).

Can you guide me through ? How to run the diagnostics ?
Any help with the Diagnostics ?
I've tried over-writing the ROM, still didn't work ...

Thank you!
Let me try it out ..
Still not working ..
Should I upgrade it to PPC2003 from the YOrk Kitchen ?? Will it help resolving the problem ?
I was thinking if it could be bcz of a loose connection inside the device (altough the device never fell down since I've got it).
Any help would be appreciated.
Rgds/
There's a good chance that it needs vendor support.
Take it back to the place you bought it... if you didn't drop it or get it wet, the warranty should cover it.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
The problem is that there is no Local Support for XDA in Pakistan yet ...
The Only Option I've got is to ship it internationally, which would be Expensive
Just tried Updating the Stack, didn't Work either .. Pretty Strange what else could happen.
If I attach a Hands-Free I get to hear the Sounds, but no Sounds on the Speaker .. person calling me can't hear me nor can I hear them. The Situtation is same I try to make a Call "Speaker Phone On" Pops-UP.
Though I tried to records the Recording, When I speak while the recoding on the playback just gives a huffing sound, no clear Audio.
Stuck with an Expensive XDA with No Phone & No Speaker Sound !!!
From the limited information provided to me by the repair centre, and looking over the details on xda-developers.com, I think your audio chip (or something related to it) may have fried. Mine was caused by water damage... a lot of water damage, at that...
Without the Sound, there's no charm in using it anyways ... bought a new Nokia 6600 a few days back and am using it ... now waiting for the Battery to be drained & when re-charged expecting a miracle to happen
I hope it works again !! I love the XDA !
Guess What .. the XDA is working perfectly fine now.
The only thing I did was to place it in my Drawer for a couple of Days .. Keeping it outta my Sight )
Miracles do happen ;-)
I have this problem now... Although it has not got wet?? Exact same as described as above...
Although in bootloader diagnostics the mic/speaker work fine. When booted in to windows I get the speaker phone coming on automatically, and no sound
Guys,
This problem drives me crazy constantly. The only explanation I found (by empirical approach) as follows:
My XDA works fine always except at winter, when I stay outside, and the XDA surface covered with steam condensate because of temperature differences. Condensate may not be seen visually, but some electronics inside has short circuit or changes in chains resistance which cause XDA to think that ‘speakerphone mode’ is on and misbehave.
To resolve this problem I just keep XDA in the worm place (like stay in apartment) for 30 min and / or plug it to charger which bring XDA to normal mode (by warming it up and thus removing steam condensate). No other ways found so far.
Regards, Andrey
Let me know if you know how to resolve it once and forever (do not advice me to thru it out  )
This solution doesn't work for me
Amazing.. I've tried banging my XDA off of my desk, sticking all sorts of crap in the headphone socket (at this point, I didn't really care if I broke it more lol)... nothing worked..
Then just now, I thought.. hm.. I'll just blow as hard as I can in the little hole... I did this for a good five minutes.. and it now works

the heart stopping moment

doing the o2 upgrade  atm and boy am i nervous just thought i would let people know .
phew
Wow how tense was that but hey so far so good no problems downloaded the update from the o2 website and installed it as per the instructions and hey presto evrything is back to normal.
Upgrading a Himalaya / XDA-II is much less nerve-wrecking than upgrading (esp. the Radio Stack of) a Wallaby.
less nerve racking pah.........
Well for those of us who dont play with our firmware a simple upgrade can be the worst experience imaginable, and so much of a relief when it goes to plan, having read some of the horror stories here i am sure i am not alone in my concern but as some kind of reassurance to other noobs out there.............. this time was very painless. lol
oh well it was short lived........
Just discovered a problem it had to happen my Xda2 after the upgrade will not enter the MMS editor so not sure what to do now so if any techies out there have any suggestions would be glad to hear them.

If this is the same problem that I had while I upgraded my i-Mate last, it was a problem with one of the files in the 'xxxxx My Documents' area (have never figured which one).
I had to
o Rename the folder
o Do a hard reset
o Sync
o Copy only the files I needed into the new directory
There may be a smarter way, but, I can only tell you my experience.
Good luck,
Ian
Same issue, different resolution
Refused to do it the 'hard-reset' way, a bit of a turn it off and on again.
Found that the directory UAEContents was the culprit. Remove this from the 'My Documents' on the XDA II and MMS Composer now works.
But does it send anything (XDA and XDA pre upgrade issue)? Time will tell.
timshep you are a star
I am eternally greatful it works i just sent a mms and just waiting to see if it is recieved. one question didnt actually delete that directory (experience has taught me that lesson) just renamed it what does the directory do? OH and by the way did i say thanks lol

PLEASE HELP, complete newbie need help with gps setup.

Hello I have just purchased an 02 xda not the 2 or anything just the xda. The reason behind buying it was to have a cheap sat nav kit as I'm not very rich unfortunately.
However, I dont have the first clue as to how to set it up, the guy gave me tom tom 3 on an mmc card. Said I need a gps receiver or something like that. I am willing to buy one but dont know which one and why and whats compatible.
Also someone else said I can run it off gprs but after reading up that doesnt seem to be very accurate so want to go gps. Do I need a gps antenna? Not sure what that is but told I need it if I dont have one.
Could someone please run me through the procedure of how to set it up as a sat nav. I'm more than happy just to use it as tom tom 3, but want to know what additional kit do I need.
Thanks.
Imran
Hi
Dig more on internet about that. You'll find step-by-steps.
First thing you need is a GPS receiver (cable or bluetooth one).
Just ask the seller if it works with XDA I. (Cable connector).
As far as I know XDA I has bluetooth ? You can but bluetooth GPS then (more expensive, but wireless and works with any BT palmtop for sure).
The rest of configuration is easy and is describes in TomTom help or/and GPS manual.
Good luck.
Hello, thanks for the reply. Did do some advice and done some digging about, so now where I stand is, I have ordered a gps receiver with the correct cable for my XDa. It surprisingly doesnt have bluetooth so couldnt get the bluetooth receiver.
Have got tom tom 5 navigation software, now should be ready to go.
Imran
Hope you have ordered a splitter cable, as the receiver needs power supply. TomTom Navigator 5 will work fine on a XDA I. Use only a headset when you'r on a motorbike, it is sufficient for navigation.

GPS Working in Dual

I did some investigation and made GPS work to get the satellite Fix.But the Comm Port is very much differrent and now need to b checked further so that the other apps such as Tom Tom, etc can use the port.To my Surprise the Protocol is Qualcomm and Comm Port is SMD 7.Here are the pics attached.
ALso some pics of Wi Fi.
I hope someone here can make it work..
Excellent
How did you manage to get GPS to get a fix on this?
thanks
HI Hdubli!
VERY VERY excellent!
...so let me understand: Are you trying to switch on the GPS system inside the Dual?
How can i see the same pics of your?

Oh baby!! GPS, wifi and unlock would be the best combination ever
Let us know about your progress at the GPS area...
Good work!

I used HTC GPS tool and some gps related DLLs.I will post the files and procedure once I get the GPS apps to use that port.
Perfect Hdubli....
You are right about GPS... I've already seen a device with GPS turned ON in Dual....as i wrote in my last post.
Good Luck and keep us in contact!
Bye
Typical, I ordered my HTC Touch on Friday (Arrived today), Then someone posts something like this.
Well thanks to good 'ol Orange My HTC Touch Dual will be here wednesday
I just hope now that this can be acheived, as I didn't really want to loose Wi-Fi, but having GPS builtin will be worth it.
And if I can help by dumping files from either device I'll gladly do it.
the chipset is definetly supporting GPS, but without a build-in antenna, I believe you won't have a good signal

Yeah..thats what i thought....hopefully theres an antenna in there.
So hdubli...have you actually managed to get satellite lock?
PseudoReal how can you say it?
Do you think that there is not a built-in antenna in this device?
Anyway... we all are interested in this new stuff!
come on guys... i now you can find the way to un-lock them!!

There is no built-in antenna because of space limitations. I have heard this from a person working for a company selling the DUAL.
Funny how people think.
The qualcomm chip can undoubtedly handle the wifi & the gps.
But the chipset only won't do much good without an *antenna*, for wifi or gps.
You know, the thing that actually gets the signal, just like the one you need to have to watch TV.
An antenna costs money. There is absolutely no way HTC would build a phone with antennas for gps & wifi, without putting support for it in it just for licensing reasons.

fully agree!
Hasn't IceHack mentioned though that he's seen a dual with Wifi and GPS working with tomtom....which must mean it has the antenna.
Also wasn't it the same with the p3600 at release the GPS didnt work and it wasn't in the specs but later rom updates unlocked the GPS......... and the same with the s730 smartphone, not in the actual specs but present in the hardware.
So im hoping this is the case with the Dual ....all the hardware's there including antenna just needs unlocking with future rom updates or hacks.
Hopefully thats the case anyway..gps and wifi in the dual would be perfect and a great replacment for my kaiser.
keep up the good work.
Yes guys, as I told you I saw a Dual with this functions active!
i'm sure that was not a MicroSd - Wifi or and GPS BT near to the device!
As happened with my P3300 I saw excatly the same ways of connects....
Now, I really don't know how to do that... even if I don't think that HTC's has decided to unmount the antenna but leaving these settings in it!
Don't you think it doesn't make so much sense?!
