I have just bought myself an XDA II and came across this site. I often tinker and make sure I have the latest firmware on my hardware. I was wondering what the benefits of upgrading the firmware I have would be. My ROM versions are:
ROM: 1.66.00WWE
Date: 02/20/04
Radio: 1.10.00
Proto: 1337.18
ExtRom: 1.66.209
Thanks
Allan
allanmb,
you have the lasted xda2, your rom are 'unique' (unpublished rom).
if you are happy & satisfaction with you rom, so, 'STAY WITH IT', no reason for upgrade.
remember, 'VOID GUARRANTE' if you do flashing/upgrade and you cannot back to previous rom automatically.
(talk to vendor first about that).
benefit 1.72 rom:
- increase battery lifetime
- latest OS (wm2003sp2)
thanks.
The only issue I have had so far is the (very) poor battery life. Do you know how much the new rom will extend my battery life? Is it merely 5-10% or a much more worth it 20-30% ?
Thanks
Allan
BATTERY LIFE
Theory :
increase 30%.
my device is 1.72 rom.
from full capacity (100%) until 7 % (after that Re-charge), i have 5.13 hours.
with condition ;
- full browsing & using Excell.
- no mp3 or movie
testing software with 'Weist Soft BatteryTimePlus' in today screen (freeware).
thanks

Hi Everybody!
Just got this wonderful PPC from T-Mobile, I have now:
- ROM version 1.60.00WWE
- ROM date 12/03/03
- Radio version 1.10.00
- Protocol version 1337.18
- ExtROM version 1.60.36
I'd like to know if it is available any BETTER ROM (English or Italian) and what could be the differences with the one I already have.
For istance, what is the difference between i-MATE, T-Mobile, O2 and Qtek ROMS? Which one is the best?
I heard rumors about the ROM version 1.66 that was affected with several problems (battery life decreasing...?)
Of course I don't know how to COOK roms...but I can learn it!
to mdkia: I'm really impressed of your skill about these stuff, can you give me a little help pls? Grazie 1000
Hi guys

Radio version: 1.10.00
Protocol Version: 1337.18 (ok who in O2 is a h4x0r? lol)

how about adding some honey n sugar to ur xda2?it will definately b sweet...
the benefits are that it will b sweet like wat u wanted n will attract ants also...
which ROM is best for XDA2
before you do anything to upgrade your XDA2, you need to think anout your satisfaction with your XDA2 now.
If your device work well, you won't need to do anything.
because of ROM upgrade is risky your device please think before do anything.
In my suggestion, the best ROM is T-mobile 1.72. you can search in this forum to find topic about T-mobile 1.72.
think before do anything.
What about if you use 1.66.00 WWE and the damn thing crashes all the time? any reccommendations? A few people have been raving about the imate 1.72
My IMate 1.72 ROM is running okay. A few little problems, but nothing that a soft reset didn't cure.
I'm on the T-Mobile ROM...
ROM version: 1.60.00WWE
Radio version: 1.10.00
... with a customized ExtRom.
i-mate ROM 1.72 doesn't work with my GPS Software (Intellinav - Belkin Navigation System)... and it also has bad Cleartype. I-mate ROM 1.66 also has the Cleartype problem, and one of the cleartype fixes some one posted here gave me a hard reset. I-mate ROM 1.52 doesn't have the integrated applications as services advantage so there are less processes available on that ROM, which means you won't be able to run as many applications at once.
Personally, I think I'm going to stick to ROM 1.60 until some Second Edition ROMs start showing up.
Anyone got a 1.60 ROM that I can get? I found that much better than the 1.72 that I upgraded to, but I deleted it..
im on imate 1.72 never had a sd erase nor hard reset have to softreset every few days thats all works great with tomtom3 and BT gps
gaz
Can anyone share with us information on version 1.72 for XDA2: features, benefits, pros, cons... ?
Is worth upgrading from O2 1.60 ?
thanks
There are allready many threads on this.
But to conclude:
If you don't have any issues with your current version: stay with it.
You might consider 1.72 (the Qtek or iMate versions, NOT the T-Mobile beta) especially when:
1. You need certain Bluetooth options (ie serial port protocol) and don't want to mess around with hacks or extra 'tools'
2. Battery life is important
For me these points were enough to DO the upgrade (coming from 1.63 T-Mobile NL). And very happy with it.
Keep in mind that (unless you find a 1.72 from your own operator) you will have quite some work with getting all the customisations right.
One of these days I will post a good working set (no issues in a month holiday!!) of customisations to be used as a an extended rom for T-Mobile NL
i'm currently using the T-Mobile ROM v1.72WWE had no problem with it. the batt life was improved noticeably. I was using the O2 ROM v1.66WWE
as for my bluetooth i'm using the widcomm BT-PPC/PE v1.0.0 build 1400. no problems with it except that it turns off whenever i set my phone to standby mode.
downlaod
i have a qtek 2020 with rom 1.66 and it is doing a lot of problem which version is better and where can i download it
1.72 ROM Editing the Connectivity
Hi, I am v happy with the 1.72 ROM... I have successfully added my local GPRS setting for my operator.
but ... I can't edit my ISP GPRS settings.
In the select network, edit My ISP, the existing connections doesn't show up to allow me to edit the settings. No exisiting connection to "tap" on!?
please help!!
1.72 ROM
i have 'salad rom' with asian flavour(Included 'auto configuration' & 'o2 connect) and happy with it.
rom 1.72WWE, radio 1.17, ext.rom 1.72.900 (main rom by Qteq, radio by T-mobile, ext.rom by edsubsoft).
untill now ;
phone, gprs, activesync, run program, MS BT stack, sms, mms ........are running well. (maybe i am lucky with it)
keep to my salad untill SE come out.
---------------
many thanks to [Krueger] Dr. Stein, mamaich, itsme, edsub...
you are great man.
Most of the post regarding ROM Salads and customizations are beyond what I wish to perform on my device. To dat I have only loaded T-Mobile ROM upgrades that required nothing more than loading them automatically. I currently have the T-Mobile U7K Beta on my MDA II.
Can someone please explain the following:
1. Is there another T-Mobile 1.72 WWE available that I can load, non-beta?
2. I see other Custom ROMs on this site that state T-Mobile. Can I simply load those automatically or will I have to get into country ID, .nbf files, etc?

ajong,
Thanks for the link. I have looked at that page/thread, but I think what I want is still not available.
I'm looking for an official T-Mobile 1.72 ROM, si I can get rid of the 1.72 Beta, or I'm looking for someone's custom ROM that I can load just like I could an official one. In other wors the custom I suppose would be ok, but I do not want to mess around with opeing the ROM and disecting and changing certain settings. Like I say, it just may not be out there.

I really want to upgrade my MDA-II (1.60.00) into a higher version (imate or XDA-II 1.72.00), but I am afraid that it may cause problems.
Is that reasonable?

To me, yep, my imate "hangs" less times, and I feel it has better performance. I am not aware about other major improvments, they clame that battery lasts little longer, but I did not feel that.
re : upgrade or not ??
i have upgraded my xda2 to 1.72 rom (cooked rom, 1.72WWE, radio 1.17, ext rom 1.72.901), already 1 month and all work flawlessly.
XDA II 1.72.00 ??
i think, this rom is not available (official rom).
thanks

my device is MDA-II. May it give specific problems when I use upgrades designed for XDA-II or iMate?
not if you follow the instructions
of cause it may very well void your warrenty
and i dont think you can change back
This thread just to try to give a reference to MBW-150 (and similar products) owners using the following applications to get notifications from their watch:
SmartwatchM from Moneytoo
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362218
or BTWatch by Pcfixitman (where are you guy?)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1960856
I would like to focus on battery drain problem on the watch which apparently is caused by the X7500 bluetooth stack on the new WM6 system.
While with most of WM6 phones the two applications grant a watch's battery life which is higher than 1 week, it seems that with WM6 X7500 can't beat 12 hours impairing the use (at least for someone).
The problem seems not to be tight to anything but to the stack (headset/ headphone independent)
I'd like to expand/correct the following list I collected thanks to previous/various posting and personal experience also to include the new and very promising released ROM and hopefully find an MBW friendly stack.
Also an indication from the cookers themselves stating the stack on which their ROM is based would be very helpful to let us raise the awareness.
To have the picture (yet if it should not be the problem) also RADIO version should be interesting.
WM6 ITA ROM: 2.21.408.1 + RADIO: 1.50.00.00 (max 11h)
WM6 ITA ROM: 2.21.408.1 + RADIO: 1.57.00.00 (max 13h)
AP touch, RADIOS 1.38, 1.50, 1,57 (less than 13h and problems with SE headset)
AP 3
WM6.1 UltraVanilla from Irus ROM: 2.35.110.2 + RADIO: 1.57.00.00 (max 13h)
WM6.1 MichyPrima 1.60F RADIO 1.57 (max 13h)
MichyPrima 5.1 - SPL 1.2 and SPL 3.5 (reported by madbird)
WM6.5 MichyPrima Multilang R1 Clean Edition (reported by gtm55)
WM5 WWE ROM 1.25.405.2 + RADIO 1.38 (14 days!)
AP 4.0 reported to last for days with RADIO 1.57
AP 5.0 OK
WM6.1 Taxist Ultra Lite ROM (athe_wwe_4.as.tx_wm6.1_b19949.1.2.0) reported more than one week (gtm55)
WM6.1 Taxist Ultra Lite (SPL 1.2 from Irus) registered on com:9 (14 days!)
WM6.1 Irus 0MB pagepool (latest loopfixed) based on Sogarth ROM, up to now more than 24h & full bar (my fav! EVERYTHING working! Apart from MMS not included)
..
Apart from the WM5 ROM it seems that ROM based on the 7510 ROM do not have the drain issue!
Cooker please consider it in cooking new ROMs!
AP touch, radios 1.38, 1.50, 1,57 Battery last around 12Hours and give me problems with My SE headset
AP4 radio 1.57 battery last a lot ( no bother to time it)no problems with my headset or disconnections.

Thanks PBL1,
you confirm that AP4 is OK regarding the watch.
Any different experience with AP4?
Any ROM based on the same BT stack of AP4?
Updated.
Anyone who whants to share his expericence on the latest Mychiprima, Sogarth's or Irus's ROMs?
I tried few irus/taxist/sorgaths/my own roms and each one that I tried tops 13h. I'm using now latest radio 1.58 without effect

So the last hope stands with AP4.
Any ROM with same stack from AP4?
Any cooker who wants to try with AP4 bt stack on his new release?
latest taxist ultra lite is ok: 7 days battery life both mbw-100 and mbw-150 watches
michy uses same bt stack as irus so: 10 h battery life
I mostly used newest taxist ultra lite rom but 13h is still my best time, MBW150.
Do you use some specific configuration - COM port / etc ?
Any headset attached to phone with watch?

port- 9

rom- athe_wwe_4.as.tx_wm6.1_b19949.1.2.0
If I remember correctly, AP4 team were having trouble with bluetooth while building the rom, whatever they did to solve the problems did the trick at least for my and my mb150.
my watch can connect at port 9 and port 0, I use port 0 because when I set the bluetooth communication as btwatch users probably know Athena report error and you just ignore the message ......etc, all explained in installation procedures anyway, but in port 0 when Athena ask for the bluetooth password second time, I just input it and there it goes( no error message second time), it doesn't seem to be any difference in functionality either port, but in port 0 installation feels just as it should be.
Anyway my Athena is dead so I'm looking for either a replacement or a better one, very frustrating because HTC only did manage to produce the 7510 after what more than a year from the original Athena?, and on new devices the iTOY with the apple thing goes at silly prices at ebay and the rest of the new bunch does not seem to be any better than our dear old Athena, perhaps the omnia does the trick Well see
Regards
Thanks for all of the report.
Any other experience about Sogarth, I'm courious so yet if reported to be short on batteries it'll be my next try then I'll report.
If no luck with it I thing I'll go for Taxist Ultra Lite 1.2

Thanks GTM55!
Updated together with latest personal testing.
Any positive experience with Sogarth ROMs?
... up to now my experience is bad as I had customization loop (with spl 1.2) and no netcf program was able to launch (included smartwatch!)
I finally resolved issue with watch - using multiple days and still shows full battery charge
1) master reset the watch
2) pair watch from smartwatch software
3) select COM9 and register COM port
4) soft reset
works great using latest taxist ultra lite ROM SPL 3.5

Good to hear!
Hi Karmarok
Just one correction in post 1 , I never posted short battery in taxista rom I never tried, the honour goes to miletb, since that now its corrected I think Taxista rom can be added to the list of MBW friendly roms and if no body reports otherwise, also AP4.
Well that's something, two roms is better than none, and since I now have back a Athena I may try taxistas for a change either is back to AP4, it was very good in my old Athena.
lol im dog tired, hope i dont mess it flashing and unlocking.

Thanks for the correction PBL1! I messed up the reports!
I would suggest to try latest Irus/Sogarth room 0 mb with fixed loop!
For me is a winner!
Video call enabled
GPS photo working
Works with voice command and media player (fixed)
fast
device on on hardware keyboard attaching
no hiss on ad2p streaming (apart in the beginning)
gsen works
no headset disconnections on calls (while mbw disconnects and reconnects randomly on calls)
GREAT!
