my first post and contribution.. hopefully it would be alot of help to other people..
this is the official IMATE 1.72 ROM...except that it was encoded to work with O2 XDA2 units
added the O2 splash screen to retain the O2 bootup image -just load O2.cab into your XDA2
the upgrade utility shouldnt show you any more country ID error for O2 XDA2 units.. if there are problems.. holler me ASAP!!
feedbacks would be nice, coz i would like to make upgrades for other Network providers as well..
Thanks for that.
Can you show me a step by step guide on how to upgrade O2 xda 2 1.60.WWE version to this?
Thanks again.
ok... im not an expert yet, coz i just had my XDA2 for a week, but i do enjoy tweaking and playing with it.. besides, the knowledge i gain thru reading this forum is more than enough..
ok.. here goes..
1. create a full BACKUP your XDA2.. (but i dunno if this is helpful should you fail to upgrade your ROM)
2. download the above file and extract it.
3. you should see it extract 7 files.
4. put your xda2 in the cradle connected to the PC
5. run HimaUpgradeUt.exe
6. wait around 30-60 mins. then follow the procedure as shown on your computer. (a hard reset would be required)
7. after the upgrade is done, you should see the IMATE screen upon booting up (instead of the O2 bubble screen) if you wanne be extra sure, check your XDA2 version.if everything is ok, then you should have upgraded it correctly
8. if you want to revert to the old O2 splash screen during bootup, then copy O2.cab to your XDA2 and run it there. Do a soft reset, and voila, it should be back to the old O2 bootscreen.
I suggest that you contact your NETWORK PROVIDER because you will need to manually configure GPRS, MMS, and INTERNET settings on your xda2 after doing the upgrade.
WARNING: i wont be held responsible or liable for failed upgrade of your unit. Please understand that by agreeing to upgrade your XDA2, you are taking full responsibility of whatever untoward incidents that may occur to your XDA2. Flashing the rom might lead to DATA LOSS, SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, and even DEVICE MALFUNCTION.
but.. the rewards of upgrading it is sweet!
Many thanks for all of these description.
BTW, how do you feel the upgrade?
What you really get from this?
Can you share with us?
Thanks again.
Cheers mate.
i dunno, im just a week old newbie in using XDA2
i just enjoy tweaking the XDA..so far, no problems here.
My xda2 currently is 1.66wwe. after upgrade to 1.72wwe, what's the different between it? anything increase? sorry because i'm a new bird
did a lil research.. so far, came to this...
The 1.72 ROM eliminates the majority of problems from the 1.66 ROM such as:
Increased battery drain
Device slows down
Bluetooth GPS devices don't work, even with Pocket Bluetooth Tools
Can it be downgraded back to O2 xda2 1.60WWE Rom?
Many thanks.
i doubt that it can be downgraded... i havent personally tried to downgrade my ROM to a lower version.. but there are other threads related to this, and they claim that when they tried downgrading their ROMS, their XDA2 died....
you can try searching for other topics if there are information about downgrading... .so far, i dont have any problems with my 1.72 ROM...
except that there is no running program application which enables me to switch off any running program in the background.. but i easily remedied it by downloading TASKMANAGER.... its quite the same with running programs...other than that, so far, so good.
Error 121 Language ID Error
Hi,
after running HimaUpgradeUt.exe I get the message:
Error 121 Language ID Error (N-2-1-0-1), the ROM image that you are trying to use is not designed to work with your Pocket PC.
I ran ERedit2003 Version 1.2.20 and opened the file ms_.nbf using the password 0x20040305. I saved the file with the different language settings WWE, ENG and GER. Always the problem remains the same.
My XDA2 currently has ROM 1.66.01GER.
Thanks for help.
try to change the operator name , too! or use other hymalaya upgrade files, from other roms!

Hi,
Thanks. But now I get the message:
Error 120 Language ID Error ( N-1-8-1-8 ), the ROM image that you are trying to use is not designed to work with your Pocket PC. I tried with settings O2 WWE, O2 GER and O2 ENG.
When specifying CDL instead of O2 the error code changes to Error 120 Language ID Error ( N-1-8-8-8 ).
So the problem remains the same
Thanks for help.
Help for beginners: upgrading O2 Xda II to ROM 1.72
New to Forum-sorry to be slow on the uptake. I am trying to undersand how to upgrade O2 Xda II (ExROM 160.50) to ROM 1.72 without losing the machine. Waxx says you need to reconfigure the ISP settings (I assume because they are lost in the upgrade). I cannot find O2 settings for GPRS Interenet and MMS on the net. Talking to O2 is a waste of time.
Does anyone have a step by step description that results in ROM 1.72/Radio 1.18 (or lower if 1.18 still in beta) working on O2 Xda II?
Has anyone reported doing it sucessfully. Have non recoverable failures been reported?
RamyG
Just copy the attached CAB file across to say, My Documents on your XDA, and run it via FileManager.
It will customise your O2 XDA II with all the correct settings.
Once it has done that (and you've tested it works), just uninstall the O2 Active bit and your settings will remain (well they did on mine)
BTW - I upgraded to the new ROM, and have had no problems at all ! Very sweet
Mark
Thnx Mark, just to make sure before I jump in: the steps are:
(1) upgrade to 1.72 using Waxx's attachement (is that the file you used?) (2) follow the procedure you described and I will get O2 customised Xda II (same as where I started) but with ROM1.72 and later Radio Stack. Right?
2 questions:
(a) are the GPRS setting for MOBILE WEB (post paid)
(b) what benefits should I expect from the upgrade? (other than the satisfaction that it succeeded, l if it works?
thnx
RamyG
Yep I used the attachment from Waxx ...
The procedure you mentioned is correct ... I did have a few heart stopping moments after the upgrade because (like you) I couldn't find the necessary settings for GPRS etc .. but the O2 cab file re-installs everything back to what it should be for the UK.
You are prompted to choose relevant settings - in this case you get a choice from either post-paid (MobileWeb) or PrePay ...
As for benefits, people are reporting better bluetooth support, and better battery life. Only upgraded mine yesterday, so can't comment on either yet !

Has anyone else had problems charging overnight with the ROM version?
Got Error 120: Country ID error N-8-1-1-1
Hi all,
I am new member here. I did upgrade to ROM 1.72WWE and seems working fine. Because the PDA is idle, I try to roll back to ROM 1.60.44 eng. and got the country id error N-8-1-1-1. I tried to set the regional to English (UK) and English (US) but failed. Any comment? My XDAII is bought from Asia-HK. Thanks a lot.
Chris
Mark thnx for your help. For all those undecided souls I can report that Waxx's ROM 172 upgrade works fine for O2 Xda II. (BTW: it takes 3 times as long to upgrade as they say it does - it's 30 min for each of ROM ExROM and Radio modules).
Mark, O2.cab did not work as exepcted for some reason. When I ran it, it simple created a text file with O2 network config info and did not actually configure the Xda II. The info was correct and a manual config worked first time. Puzzled, I ran the O2 cab again but from another directory. This time I got the O2 spiral (I may have gotten the network configed again I can't know as I had previously configured it manually . The upgrade did lose the O2 dialer screen and reverted to the iMATE one. This is trivial. the Net is full of free attractive skins. e.g http://sourceforge.net/projects/pocketpc-apps/
Mark Peters- I thank you again.

How to upgrade from WM5 TO WM6
To upgrade your prophet to WM6 I recommend that you first of all downgrade to the NVID version of WM5 AKU2.2 and get the latest Active Sync:
1. Download the NVID(no vendor) AKU2.2 rom for WM5 here :http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe YOU CAN USE Step1 of PdaMobiz or PDAViet Temp INSTEAD OF NVID(no vendor) AKU2.2 ROM...
2. After it has been downloaded get the latest Active Sync from Microsoft.com
3. Install active sync, you might need to reboot
4. When your computer has rebooted, run the file from step No 1 . Follow the steps, remember that it can take some time and seem to stuck at 80% and higher, but just wait.
5. When you have done this, your pda will reboot. After it comes with the welcome to windows mobile screen,"Tap Here To Begin",JUST LEAVE IT. In fact don't touch your device before the next steps are finished.
6. Now download one of the WM6 versions( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1279985&postcount=1 )
7. Now find a file named Upgrade.bat, and run it.(you don't have to run Step1 of PdaMobiz or PDAViet Temp,as you have already downgraded to AKU2.2)
8. Wait until the upgrade finishes(usually takes 12-15minutes)..WAIT WAIT WAIT
9. A message will be displayed in the dos box,and it will say that the upgrade is finished etc....etc...,now you HAVE to HARD RESET,to finish the upgrade and enjoy you new WM6!
How to downgrade from WM6 TO WM5
The downgrade process from WM6 to WM5 is pretty simple. All you have to do is to downgrade to WM5 NVID and after that upgrade to the WM5 you want:
1. Download the NVID(no vendor) AKU 2.2 rom for WM5 here :http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exeYOU CAN USE Step1 of PdaMobiz or PDAViet Temp INSTEAD OF NVID(no vendor) AKU2.2 ROM...
2. After it has been downloaded get the latest Active Sync from Microsoft.com.. Simply search for "Active Sync"
3. Install active sync, you might need to reboot
4. When your PC is ready run the NVID file you downloaded in step1 and follow the guide, remember that it can take some time and seem to stuck at 80% and higher, but just wait
5. When its done downgrading to the NVID WM5 rom, you prophet will reset and you can upgrade to the version of WM5 you want.
NOTICE
If you use a different AKU 2.2 ROM(like PDAViet Temp),you may have two EXEs in the folder you extracted.Be careful and use the one that is made for your device:
FILENAME G3.EXE
is for G3 devices:IPL x.xx.0000, SPL x.xx.000.0 (this is shown when you reset)
FILENAME G4.EXE
is for G4 devices:IPL x.xx.0001, SPL x.xx.000.1 (this is shown when you reset)
RECOVERING FROM ERROR IN STEP 8 WM5->WM6
1. Don't panic
2. Don't panic
3. Unplug the phone
4. Reset with stylus, and keep the Camera Button pressed.
5. A 3 color screen will appear(Bootloader Screen)
6. Connect your device with your PC,and run the NVID(no vendor) WM5 rom.
7. The device will be resetted after RUU(rom update utility)finishes
8. Repeat the WM6 upgrade,from STEP 5..
How to switch or upgrade/downgrade between WM6 versions(for example PDAViet->Trueneytral)
1. First you have to downgrade to WM5 AKU2.2 using the WM6->WM5 guide(some say that you don't have to do that, but i believe that it's better to downgrade first rather than making a simple overwrite)
2. Now follow STEP 5 of the WM5->WM6 guide
Device doesn't connect to PC after flash
If your device doesn't connect to your PC after flash, just enter bootloader(press camera button+while pressing soft reset and hold, until a tri-color screen shows up),and flash the NoVendor WM5 Rom: http://rapidshare.com/files/17208693/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe .Then repeat the whole process...
----------------------------------------------------------
KEEP IN MIND:
UPGRADING CAN BE DANGEROUS,YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE
DO NOT RESTORE BACKUPS FROM ANY ROM OTHER THAN THE ONE IT WAS CREATED ON
THERE IS NO "BEST WM6 ROM",THE BEST IS THE ONE THAT WORKS BEST FOR YOU
(part of the guide is taken from Da9L's guide,in the WM6 Rom Collection)
I will edit/update this post soon and clean it up, ask questions in another thread, and by god please read the wiki first, 90% of the questions asked are answered in the wiki....

Huge Problem!!
Ok guys I am having a huge problem. I tried to upgrade to WM6 but when running the RUU and changing the rom, it encountered an error saying the nbf file cannot be installed on my pda phone and now my phone is stuck(i think permanantly) on the bootloader screen.
No matter what I do to try to fix this, IE: restart device, power down by removing battery, try to run the RUU again, nothing helps. Its is really stuck and I really need this cell phone.
PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN.

Put you pda on bootloader mod... and try any of this rom's i have managed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=316062
Stay cool!
I followed the instructions carefully, and my phone (Qtek S200) seemed to boot with WM6.0
However, after aligning screen, it tried to initialize the phone with some extended roms, a procedure which failed, and I had to soft reset.
After reboot, it seems to work fine.
Is it?
EDIT: Another thing I noticed is that keyboard is in THAI !!! How can I make US the default? Olso, I have Resco keyboard GR edition. Will this work with WM6?

I'm asking, because in PDAviet's temp file there are two different rom updaters, but in the file linked above there is only one.

Another thing I noticed, is that it looses pairing with my bt handsfree...
I am making the pairing, and works fine. However, when at night I am shutting off my hf in order to save battery, the next morning the pairing is gone.

Choice of ROM
Hello guys, tanks for a so nice job !
I would like to have more information about the choice of ROM.
I don't want any special feature, just the row wm6.
no programs added, no tweaky today, no bugs, no battery problem, etc etc
which one would fit that the best ?
thanks
Thnx for this man, much appreciated!
I have flashed my O2 Atom with WM5 AKU3.3.3 Final (From Master Jiggs), unfortunately I need to flash back to Original O2 Atom (Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822). I can't do it the DSUU always gives an error.
I also tried with BOOT LOADER method as below, also it gave error
1) Remove SD
2) Remove battery
3) Press Camera button + Reset + Insert battery
4) Connect USB -> Run DSUU
Please anyone can give me the step 1 by 1 how to flash back my O2 ATOM.
THANKSSSSSS
Why no-one reply
I tried to search from here, and try a couple of ways, still can't flash to original rom.
At lease please Master Jiggs could you please give me an idea how to do this?
Thankssss a ton
You can try reverse engineering the upgrade procedure found in the WM5 AKU 3.3 topic. It goes like this, but you'll most probably need the AKU2.2 nb0 file.
(which I currently don't have any idea how to extract from the AKU 2.2 ROM. The AKU 2.2 ROM should be avaliable in the same topic if you need it, but you should already have it I think)
UPGRADE PROCEDURE:
1. Your device battery must be at least 80% charged.
2. Enter into boot loader mode: POWER+DPAD(center)+RESET (simultaneous)
3. Connect device to PC using USB
4. Run the original ROM update (in your case, would be 3.3.3 final)
5. On the Welcome window, click <next>
6. Unzip nb0 file into C:\Windows\Temp Folder (overwrite existing file) - you need the nb0 file from the AKU 2.2 ROM here
7. Proceed upgrading and follow on screen instructions.
PS: I have no absolute garuntee this works. The Atom is one locked down mofo. -.-
Thank you so much Ultimate Chicken
There are questions I am not clear
1)I have the extract .nb0 files from AKU2.2, there are 2 .nb0. Do I need to use this both to replace in C:\Windows\Temp after run the DSSU of AKU3.3?
2) After I executed AKU3.3 and look into C:\Windows\Temp, there is no .nb0 file in there so I don't know whether this is correct that to replace AKU2.2 .nb0 files into C:\Windows\Temp (Because there is no .nb0 file exist to replace)
Please help
Thankssss again
see attached
Q1 has already been answered for you. So...
2) After I executed AKU3.3 and look into C:\Windows\Temp, there is no .nb0 file in there so I don't know whether this is correct that to replace AKU2.2 .nb0 files into C:\Windows\Temp (Because there is no .nb0 file exist to replace)

That's why the instructions tell you to click NEXT first at the welcome screen (step 5) before doing anything. If you don't you won't see anything in Windows\Temp.
Thank you both of you for the information.
Quick Chicken :
To confirm because I destroy my Atom
If I tried your solution & if it is not working or end up at some steps.
Can I regain back my Atom by flashing it with WM5 AKU3.3 again?
THNKSSS
Repeat Vvvvv
This should work, because I did end up stuck in what wasn't even a bootloader (black screen with large white text that said "connect a USB cable") and was still able to resuscitate my Atom. As long as you have a bootloader that isn't locked (the Atom's, by default, isn't), and you didn't misflash your bootloader, it's possible to reflash your Atom.
To play it safe, remove your SIM and memory cards before flashing.
You may run into a common problem ExtROM_FORMAT_FAIL. If you do get this, your bootloader should be safe (and you should end up in the Connect A USB Cable screen) - retry the flash from scratch repeatedly and one of the attempts should go through.
PS: I still can't garuntee a thing. Frankly, my experience with the hacked Exec ROM might be a fluke or something. Good luck.
Ultimate Chicken
Thanks a million Time I am flashing my Atom back now. Wait & See the result.
Another question from a newbie like mine. You are talking about flashing the boot loader, it seems to be very serious if I flash wrongly my boot loader. So could you please give me a knowledge or a link on this, so that I am not flashing my bootloader wrongly.
Thanks again.....
The bootloader flash is part of the process. It also (thankfully) is the shortest part of the process. Without a bootloader your device won't run at all, and it can't be recovered short of sending it back for repairs.
I can't remember when it occurs, but should be before the ExtROM flash. Your PDA screen and DSUU should show you the details while the event is in progress.
Good luck. ^_^
I tried to search on Wiki and the forum. But negative hits.
Currently i have a english HTC tytn, and it has to change to a Dutch rom.
I searched for a simple language pack (like windows xp ). But i couldn't found 1.
So i searched on Wiki. I found some close hits but without the correct sollutions.
After searching for a while i found the WM 5 dutch Rom for a Hermes. ME_DT_NLD_1182542_104_10303_Ship.exe
I thought okey this must be easy. Just use unpack and run the Shipped Rom.
The Wrapper gave me the following error on installation. Error 260 device not found. Ok that isn't a problem i will use the Olipro wrappers from the bootload or sspl.
SSPL didin't work and the bootload trick worked. Actually after the 100% installation it gave the error, and the device was resetting. The device started windows. an it was actually a dutch version. Before i jumped up and down of excitment i wanted to be sure it installed the customize. When it started to install the customize it actually frozen at the today content. After waiting for an half our. I decided to give the device a hard reset. The screen after the hard reset turned white. So there was somethin wrong.
Next step was to take the .NBH file from the zipped package and unpack it in a folder to add the correct customization. It didn't help at all.
At this moment i am out of ideas. Because why wasn't the original rom installing as it suppose to be. Is this a common problem. or did i lost my mind and didn't follow the right steps.
Please let me know.
I actually used to reset the rom to its orriginal backup rom. but i get a vendor id error.!!!!
Fixed the problem;
I used Hard-spl-v7, after unpacking the shipped rom with NBH tool. Then removed the IPL / SPL folders from the new map and inserted the RUU-wrapper from the Hard-spl-v7 zip file.
Still have a wrecked rom on a other tytn. K.I.A. i quess. If its solved i let you know.
So, after first succesefull flash of my tytn I took friends mda vario 2 to do the same. And bricked it!!!
Because of first unsuccesefull flash when I downloaded RUU_inside.nbh file into HardSPL7 directory. So, I connected vario and started RUU_wrapper. BUT in a next few seconds I realised that I am upgrading ROM instead of HARDSPL-ing File inside was from DopodAsia WWE.
Upgrade stared, in a 30minutes it stucked in 24% and I disoconnected PDA. After that it stucked in bootloader! SPL 2.03!
I tried to do HardSPL after-no help. I tried to install ATT Stripped ROM- error on 1%. I downloaded official WM 5.0 GER - no help again.
Few more attempts of flashing HARDSPL, and ROM-s via RUU-wrapper didnt help eather. THEN JUST SOFTRESET: I saw dopod bootsplash screen, and windows started normally!!! I couldnt believe, because I was prepparing to do that complicated procedure of unbricking.
After starting windows I just did HARDSPL and ATT stripped ROM: All OK UNLESS GSM!
Is it possible to fix??
To +Que PPC and boog321: thanks to earlier advices!
OK! I flashed RADIO ROM 1.56.70- IT WORKS!
Guys who are making this software are fenomennal
hahaha!!!!! Nice experince man!!!
Well i think we all has to thank to Olipro! POF! and many old XDA members that makes this posible!!!
Keep it up.... and for the enxt device please... read eveything two or three times! hahaha and please don overwrite files... its better to make new folders!
Keep it up!
haha, thanks Que...
I was in a hurry, so I just connected PDA and start wrapper. I shocked when a I saw wrong .nbh file, but it was too late. But luckely it looks like new ROM was partly OK and I was able to start WM, then flash HardSPL and WM correctly.
Both hermes are working fine.
P.S. I would like someone to put simple guide for people who only want to change their ROM to simple WWE, and have some experience.
1. Download HardSPL7 and unzip to folder on PC
2. Download ATT ROM and unzip to different folder on PC
3. Connect via ActiveSync
4. Start RUU wrapper from HardSPL folder and follow instructions
5. See if you flashed correctely (in a bootloader must be 2.10.01olipro in SPL)
6. If its OK than reset, start WM on PC, connect via ASync and start RUU-wrapper FROM ATT ROM folder, choose autodetect or SPL you have seen in bootloader screen - accept everything....Wait for 10min and enjoy in ENG ROM!
Thanks Oli, Pof and all others of course!
