Fat Fingers Mode? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I was told by a fellow XDA II user that there is a 'Fat Fingers' mode (i.e. the buttons are all larger). Is this true?

Nope, tytn has a samsung cpu. XCPUScalar is only valid for xscale processors.
There is not yet a working overclocking solution for the TyTN.

Yes, but it doesn't work on the Hermes, you can overclock and underclock it, but it will hardreset and become unstable after a while. I tried with both production and preproduction (300Mhz samsung) versions of the Hermes with the same results.
wtf...."my tytn is slowing down" solution "overclock it", who brought the crack today?
First thing would be to see how much crap you have in start up, and how much junk you have on your today screen constantly refreshing, I have 30 applications installed on my tytn, and NO slowdown.
I should have ignored this thread, but working in the pc tech help for many years...I never would have imagined to tell someone to OC their pc if it was slow, same applies to this device, this isn't the Omap processor, as you all know...the tytn is actually fairly quick, if you don't muck it all up with memory resident poop.
Also, why anyone would bother with an app to change the softbuttons is beyond me, it just takes a couple minutes with a registry editor, which equals less junk installed on your tytn.
edit: sorry I was a bit surly this morning, and I couldn't stfu...it just looks to me that vid200 is a bit of a novice from his initial question (sorry if I am wrong, no offence meant vid200) by the nature of it and that the answer is easily found on google and the wiki.
I can understand pointing someone out the app to easily change the softkeys..it saves trying to teach someone about registry editing, but to tell that same person to OC their ppc when they haven't even really dug into manually tweaking it is just nutty, you have to crawl before you can walk.
vid200, if you don't have it, I suggest you give memmaid a try, and see what is slowin you down, also I don't know if the softbutton app you have permits it, but if you manually change the softkeys with a registry editor, you can link them to .cpl files, for example the taskman.cpl file found on this forum, and easily bring up the oem taskmanager, or any other control panel apps...battery..memory..there is a .zip floating around with most all the .cpl files in it, and when you stick with the oem monitors it helps with speed and battery life just less polling and memory usage, also just throwin the tip out there, some people might not know they can link to cpl's.
the only things that have slowed down my tytn are the wisbar advance (all of em) and Pocket PC PhoneAlarm,
I don't recommend both of them as they are resource hogs and have memory leaks,
aside from those two I have 30 so apllications and tons of today plugins and my device is fast and very responsive.
Hello all,
Need your help for the following:
I am trying to use left sofkey to lock pda, like we use on a nokia phone (left key + * to lock phone).
I have used SoftkeyAppletEx (Thanks Dotfred!), but i still could not find the correct block keys file to link to softkey.
For sure this is not impossible, as we can put that option on today screen.
Anyone could help to identify that file???

You're not offensed, but I am. This so called 'ChaoticDruid' guy has no respect for the work made by others. I surely won't use 'Druid', because he has no wisdom being so pretentious, and I wouldn't use Chaotic but more 'Causing chaos'...
Surely, he's so clever that he advices a novice to play with the registry, this is very wise indeed. Furthermore, I didn't know that a Control Panel Applet could cause the slow down of a machine, but yes he has so many years of experience that he doesn't even know that. And I would add that not everybody wants to take a couple of minutes (I wish it was true if you don't know what you're looking for) to dig in the registry, if it can be done in two seconds.

Ok
I understand your point of view,
But this is a forum so I suggest we keep discussing things not arguing.
Well, so I read on other topics that SPB pocket plus is a slow down application and I have to admit I am using it so I am thinking of changing it maybe with some other programs.
Any suggestions, I would like to make my today screen like this:
Connection manager
GPRS counter,
Whether report
Messages (lsit all unread emails and tekst messages)
Tasks
Calendar
And Icons for the applications in tray bar.
I would also like to put new message (and have a choice: text, email or MMS) to the left soft key, but I do not know how.
BUT since I am a newbie I can only admire your today screens and hope I will find out somewhere how you did it.
I would like to ask how to change the ring for incoming message,
I would like to ask how to put icons in the bottom right corner in a tray bar where already the icon for emoze push mail is.
1) And for all of you out there thanks for the help you give me
2) I have the device for 4 days and my girlfriend says it is all I have been doing for the past 4 days so don’t even thing I’m not spending hours and reading forums and searching.

PHM Tray Launcher allows you to add a tray icon in the taskbar.
I also use SPB Pocket Plus, so for another "today manager" ask to others, this one is enough for me.
Use Tweaks2k2.Net
There is a specific tweak to override the sofkeys' setings.
You can replace key caption or programs, for instance you can remove "Calendar" and set "Agenda" and so on for Contacts
Change your Left/Right Today softkeys
Here is the registry tweak you requested -
================================================
Change the application launched by Today screen Soft Keys
To change the application launched by the Today screen Left soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\Open = "\Windows\Calendar.exe" (REG_SZ string, including quotes)
To change the title of the Left soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\112\(Default) = Calendar (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
To change the application launched by the Today screen Right soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113\Open = "\Windows\Calendar.exe" (REG_SZ string, including quotes)
To change the title of the Right soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Keys\113\(Default) = "Calendar" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Note that 113 normally doesn't exist by default, and probably needs to be created Also note that there is at least 1 application that allows you to set these through a GUI, developed by FdcSoft called SoftKeyAppletEx
=================================================
Actually, you can select any name or app on the Left /Right softkey. Test the length of the word (make sure it fits all on the bar). You may get the application ".exe" from /windows folder of your device.
I would advise though not to fiddle on the right key as that is a bit complicated.
For example, mine I used on the Left softkey the name "Phone Pad" and used "VTKey.exe" (without the quotes) instead of Calendar and Calendar.exe. It worked perfectly well on my Imate Jasjar with no problem at all on portrait/landscape orientation. Hoped it does, too, on your device.
Cheers !!!
Look for SoftKeyAppletEx to remap your softkeys ..

[APP][UPDATED Updated 26/01/2010] PLToggle - Toggle screen rotation

I made this program in answer to a request in the HD2 General forum, but thought I should post it here.
It's a small app that toggles the display orientation back and forth to the rotation of your choice, without the need for the g-sensor.
The default installation includes the settings screen (available from your start menu), and the application itself, which is available via a long-hold of the call button. When the application is first installed, it defaults to standard landscape (the left of the phone being the bottom), but this can be changed via the settings screen.
BIG THANKS!! to vonski and Eldorado9 for their patience and testing. Thanks guys
Have fun
Note:
Manila doesn't like being forced into landscape, so you can't use this app for that - sorry. It works upside-down, just not sideways. (I've got a HD2 with Sense/Manila 2.5)
Also, I've only tested this on a WVGA device and would like to know how it works on other resolution devices, so please feel free to private message me with any feedback regarding this.
Change details (26/01/2010)
Removed the long_send link that was originally being installed in the Windows folder.
For some reason, when you press the call button to answer a call, it executes the long_send link, despite only being a quick send.
This only happens when there's an incoming call. I've removed this link from the installer, but you still execute the toggle with a long-hold of the call button.
NOTE: The installer will remove the long_send link from your windows folder.
Change details (13/01/2010)
Added the settings screen so there's now only 1 installer, instead of 3.
If you do have the previous version, you can simply delete it from the windows folder, or just leave it and install this one.
It will override the existing version's functionality, despite being able to install it on your storage card now.
Great Job!
John,
Great job and thanks for this. First thing that comes to mind is why did you not combine these into one programme so one can have the option to go left, right or upside down without having to install 3 separate apps?
If its not difficult to do and you can spare the time to do it then I would be very interested in a single combined app that I could run off my quicklinks.
I'm subscribing to this thread to watch developments.
Thanks again.

It actually is 1 program, but the shortcut (long_send) is different in each zip file, and that tells the app which direction to rotate the display.
This started because someone asked for an app that would put their display in landscape and then back again, with a long-hold on the call button. After I'd done that for them, someone else asked for the opposite direction. Whilst doing that I remember that someone had once asked how to change the display to upside-down, so I did that at the same time.
The main idea here is that you pick a default rotation, and then you only have a button press to toggle it on and off. Anything more than that would require a UI and therefore more interaction, and since I'm trying to keep interaction to a minimum, that sort of goes against the principle of it.
I'll have a think about it though, but I think what you're suggesting is a completely different application. I'm not against doing that, but it won't be part of the development of this.
Thanks for the suggestion mate
Ah ok, I see. Also understand the "minimalist" philosophy behind the development.
The way I would use a programme like this would be to have it as a quicklink on my front screen (I tend not to link things to hardware buttons) which would then give me the options of (L)eft, (R)ight or (U)pside Down. If that requires a UI (I guess it does) then don't go to all that trouble.
The problem with me is I don't always rotate my device the same way all the time (I'm weird like that) although upside down is a new one on me (I remember Tubgirl, I think, asking for that).
Cheers anyway.
WB

Just a quick question:
I use the Standard Windows Hardware Button Assignment and mapped my internet browser button with "rotate Screen"...
now here for the question: Is it possible to write that app for other buttons too? 'cause i'd love to have multifunction on my browser button and your app is almost perfect for it^^ short press = Opera, long hold = rotate... that would be SO AWESOME!!!!
btw: your app is great as it is now.... it's just a question^^

I think to do what you've suggested, you'd need something like AEButtons. I've never used it myself, but I believe you can assign different actions for long and short button presses to hardware buttons.

[q] "new" app button

Hi, I think there is probably a post here somewhere but it eludes me... On my Orbit 2 I installed a program to give a "new" (sms, mail appointment etc). Is there such a thing for HD2 that could be put on a quick link?

You can either use the method samsamuel linked you to or you could set up an "action screen" on your left softkey and get access to various shortcuts like new sms/mms/email all from one screen...
Check this thread.....
Hope that helps.....
ooo thats nice, hadn't seen that before.
EDIT - oh wait,. i already have it cooked in, but bound to teh long press end key, d'oh, hehe

OK after using it today, i found it pretty straightforward and simple to use.
Found only one small bug, when playing a video, on YouTube, stock player or whatever, if you touch the screen the on-screen controls jump on, you cannot press them, but the UI do popup.
And one suggestion, the resizeable square where you select the zone to be blocked from touches should have at least a small pad or something to drag it. Once the square reaches the borders it gets really hard to pick again.

[Q] Alternatives to the hardware side buttons?

Hi,
I've recently rooted my Verizon Galaxy S4 (THANK YOU open1your1eyes0 for the guide, and hiikezoe, DooMLoRD, and PWM978 for the root exploit!) and everything went pretty much flawlessly.
So brimming with confidence after almost a week of root related tweaking I'm now hunting for a solution to replace part of the functionality of the right hand side HARDWARE button for putting my phone to sleep - or whatever the correct term is for when "I click the button to make my screen go dark so as to avoid calling people with my butt while I'm carrying my phone around".
Is there such a thing?
As an old school IT guy, my philosophy is that I'd rather use the touch screen (with like a toggle or what have you) for this super frequent function than use the hardware button which will eventually wear the hell out. Yeah, I know it prolly has around a gogillian use cycles before that day but I'm a bit of a purist and maybe we should just call it a philosophy with me. Or maybe I'm debilitatingly OCD.
Either way, is there such a solution out there? I'm hoping for a toggle similar to the pull-down shade buttons already provided for mobile data, or GPS etc. However I would also be satisfied with a standalone "app" type button I could situate someplace handy onscreen or maybe even in a "Button Savior" type "drawer" that I could access with just a flick and click after every phone call (and BEFORE I drop the phone into my pocket and call random people as I have been doing far too often *lol*)
Anyway, thanks for reading and I appreciate any help you may be able to give me to get me pointed in the right direction.
Best regards,
Joe C.
Only thing I can consider is trying to get a job with Samsung and maybe they will let you build the s5 with the buttons you want. Good luck!

Thanks hexitnow and nativi! I appreciate your time answering me but I should have been clearer. I had seen those various "app" options and even tried a few.
What I was trying to describe by, "..a toggle similar to the pull-down shade buttons already provided for mobile data, or GPS etc." was the actual rectangular toggle buttons for those functions and others like airplane mode and screen rotation and all. I'm referring to the batch of buttons which can even be reordered to control which 5 are displayed across the top of the pull down shade area.
One of the Play Store apps called "Screen Off and Lock" by "Katecca" comes close because it lets you configure it to show in the pull down shade - but only in the "Text" area of the "Notifications" area (like where battery info or things like that are shown). Am I describing what I mean adequately?
It's a wonderful app but I was hoping to limit the screen real estate dedicated to this function even more is all.
Thank you again though for your tips.
Best,
Joe C.
The free Button Savior app can do this. Use the on/off looking button.
Also in system settings, security, device administrator, you need to give lock screen privilege to Button Savior
Would nova Launcher have a gesture that you could do to turn the screen off with a gesture or even a gesture app.
