SX-56 Battery will not charge after upgrading to WM 2003 - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi all,
I have 2 SX-56 (AT&T Wireless - USA) that suffer from the following. I upgraded one of SX-56's from WM2002 (big mistake so far as everything worked perfectly until the upgrade) to WM2003. After the upgrade the battery ran down and would not charge. I tried soft and hard resets with no avail. Thinking it may be a problem with the battery I upgraded my second SX-56 to WM2003 (again big mistake as it worked perfectly until the upgrade). Same problem with the battery. I have read where freezing the battery may help and I will try that later tonight. Did anyone else have this problem during the upgrade? Could there be an issue with the ROM Version? My WM2003 came from Siemens when they had it posted on their Website. Should or can I go back to an older ROM? I have tried the Special ROM from xda-developers. It installed perfectly and works great as long as it is plugged into power. However the battery issue still exists on both units. Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated!!

If wm2003 displays the same behavior on both phones I would be inclined to reflash with 2002 and see if it cures the problem.

I posted this as Guest but now have a "real" ID.
Thanks Cruisin...I tried freezing the battery but no luck. I did Flash with the SPECIAL ROM from XDA-DEV but the issue still exists. Is the XDA-DEV Rom 2002 or 2003? If it's 2003 I will go cook one with 2002 and see if that helps.

Special Rom is based on PPC2002
Stefan

Thank Lumpi...guess the batteries on both units are really dead!!

your batteries are still good!

me also
i also upgraded my siemens sx 56 to wm 2003 but after upgradation it is not recharging the battery (main) that is no orange light turns on when i put it into the cradle and turn on the switch , i can not switch back to wm2002 as the setup says the charger has to be plugged in but the sx 56 is not detecting charging , all things were fine when there was wm 2002 man help help help help me what should i do ?

Second time en 36 hours. After being in my gym (without coberture) i couldnt turn on the imate. I only could hard reset.
My device information is :
ROM Version: 1.72.00WWE
ROM date: 03/15/04
Radio Version: 1.14.00
Protocol version: 1337.24
ExtROM version: 1.72.800
I didnt restore my applications (i installed them from scratch).
The software that i ve installed is:
Mobimate WorldMate Pro

Spb Full Screen Keyboard
Spb GPRS Monitor
ScaryBear CheckNotifications
ScaryBear ClearNotify
Omega one battery pack
Tom tom gps (3.0)
Pocket Informant 5
Please help. Do you think that it's a problem of the rom? maybe the problem is in some the applications??
Please helppppppppppppppppppp
Did you restore a Backup after upgrade, or did you install all programs from scratch?...
I restored an upgrade after the 1.72 beta upgrade, and my device
then acted just like yours. It gets totaly dead for no special reason.
It also ate alot more of the battery!
I think that some programs or system DLL files have been changed in WM2003 in the new 1.72. And that´s whats causing the strange behavior.
Because when i installed all the aps from scratch, without restoring a backup everything worked perfect!
I did upgrade Thursday ( 2 days ago) all was going really well, till today. In my workplace, a radiology department, signal strength comes and goes. Guess what, my unit froze, no response had to do a hard reset. Same symptoms as with the 1.66 ROM. I don't understand what CD are up to! I have read the threads about Spb Pocket Plus (which I run) etc.. but there are so many happy users of this and other apps out there I find it hard to believe that it is responsible, I am sure it is a bug with the radio , which as far as I can see is not resolved, I bet more complaints will be forthcoming from 1.72 ROM users, not just us. (PS i started from fresh loading my apps, not a resore from previous ROM).
I have the same problem last night (for the first time), my XDA II blank when I put it in to cradlle soft reset not working, the only way is to hard reset. This is a strange behavior. :x
radio stack
I think is a problem of the radio stack. The problem appears when signal strength comes and goes. I thougth CD had solved it....But now i am sure the problem remains....
I don't think it has anything to do with the radio stack?
I believe that it is SPB software, GPRS monitor, Pocket Plus etc. I had to hard reset after a lockup but after I removed ALL SPB software I have had no issues at all. Nothing very stable and 3+ days of heavy use. Try it...remove ALL SPB software and run for a few days.
Remember 1.66 had a Microsoft Service pack 1 and 1.72 has Microsoft Service Pack 2 in the ROM. I believe there must be some issues with SPB and the service packs.
I LOVE their software but I cannot live with lockups and hard resets. So I either downgrade the rom (not an option - rom is very stable I find now, fast and my BT headset works great) or remove all their software till they sort things out.
I have run SPB GPRS monitor and pocket plus (the NEW 2.0 version) for a couple of weeks now, under heavy use. And i have had NO issues whatsoever.
i havent had any of those having to hardreset since
i removed spd plus (not the newest version)
and claunch
suppose it could just be a coincident
but i'm not installing those 2 programs again
well i also removed some of the phm software at that time come to think of it
OK guys, I am going to give it a go, will uninstall my GPRS monitor and spb pocket plus v 2, and see what happens, will let you know.
Well the best way would be a hard reset and then NOT install the apps but it is some work to do that. Hope that the uninstall does uninstall everything most do not.
Let us know...good luck.
Hello folks,
I have the exact same problem descrived above. And I use SBP's Pocket Plus, but honestly I think it has nothing to do with this problem since I hard reset my MDA2 and use it with factory defaults, no applications installed but eventually the problem came back!
It's really weird...
Let us know if somebody manages to reproduce the problem, since It occurs at random intervals.
Best regards,
Rayan
hmm ... i upgraded to 1.72 today ... within hours, it froze and sort of reseted itself and got stuck at the imate screen. Did soft reset and still stuck at the same screen, turned off xda and turned on again .. .same result. So had to do a hard reset ... luckily i restored everything within min with sprite backup.
Something interesting though, when I turned off device and pulled out battery, the screen still displated half of the imate screen ... i guess its eating off the backup battery ...
Anyway ... hope someone comes up with a fix soon ... otherwise its gonna b a pain if this keeps happening.
Hello, does anyone solve this problem, i have the same problem and it's really anoying
hehe
mine jus played up on me again yesterday. AGAIN while playing with phonedashboad but anyhow, i dont like this rom, prob gonna downgrade to 1.66 or 1.6
Well I am now 9 days on since I did a voluntary hard reset after experiencing 2 forced hard resets in 4 days with ROM 1.72 (all mmy favourite apps running including Spb Pocket Plus, GPRS monitor and others). I decidied to hard reset, start witha clean system, installed only PI, Fitaly and Sprite backup, 9 days now of trouble free i-mate usage. I am now installing apps one at a time to see what happens, stared with Hudson mobile phone dashboard, so far 2 day and all s well.
I am starting to form the opinion that my problems were down to running to many today plug ins, as i used to run all of the following :
Spb Pocket Plus v2.
Spb GPRS Monitor
Husdon Mobile Phone Dashboard
Kitara Genesis
I am a little more happier with the radio version, though i must admit i am cautious about staying too long in zones of bad or no reception.
As dherreo mentions, if you have to be a long while in a no reception zone, may be better to switch the radio off. I have my i-mate forward calls to my pager so i don't miss any incoming calls.
dmjames
Try playing around with phonedashboard such as puttin in the M2M numbers and fiddling around wiht the settings for a while. It doesnt happen everytime, but both my forced hard-resets have been during setting phonedashboard.
I havent installed spb software cos there were some speculation about conflicts with the new rom.
Well well well,
i had a very unstable and finally within about 36 hours after installing that Spb software it came to a hard reset.
now i read about it, i can finally see what it was that caused the hard reset.
I had been thinking and thinking what I installed that caused my mda to crash. but now i know it Spb Software or it has a very high probability chance
Hmm..did any of you notice the blue LED light lite when the system frooze.
My did 2 times, in three days at nearly the same time!..mine is Rom1.66..
1.66 was very stable for me besides the battery drain and slight slowness compared to 1.72 ... beside that, it neva froze once....
no hang-ups
I am using 1.72 for a week now -with Spb (!)- and it works stable
My device information is :
ROM Version: 1.72.00WWE
ROM date: 03/15/04
Radio Version: 1.14.00
Protocol version: 1337.24
ExtROM version: 1.72.126
Spb pocket plus 2.00 build 1184
Spb GPRS monitor 2.12 build 306
It seems for me there is no problem with 1.72 and Spb software.
I did however remove the "3_networkname.CAB" from the ExtROM, because I never see this before (and I don't have an i-mate). Could this be the difference?
I do have some strange problem with Alturion BT GPS serial connection since 1.66 (but not from start). All indications on the BT GPS suggest that there is a good BT connection and satelites are found but Alturion is claiming there is no GPS available. Later I installed TT3 and this had no problem with the BT GPS connection.
Probably this has nothing to do with 1.72 (or 1.66) but with the ****ty drivers from Alturion.

Sudden hard resets

Hey guys, has anyone ever experienced the XDAII doing a sudden hard reset? I am running win2003se and the only today plugin i'm using is SPB PocketPlus. I'm using the 2.06 ROM. It has happened to me 3x in this month when the unit just suddently on its own hard resets w/out any intervention or warning. This even if no other programs are loaded into memory except the today plugin. Any advice? Thanks
I have a 2i now, but I did experience the same problem as you're describing shortly before I upgraded. As it turned out, it was the same day I ordered the 2i!!
Maybe it was feeling jealous. I must say that I only ever experienced two hard resets throughout my use of the XDA2. Once was very ill-timed as I was away on business. I didn't have any numbers for texting or anything, so I had to drive back home that day and come back again once I had resynced and rebuilt. Still don't know why it happened, though I seem to remember trying to disconnect from GPRS at the time the unit locked...then I got the high pitch ding dinnng that only comes with a hard reset.
The second time was another lockup, though I don't think related to GPRS. I was not pleased but fast forward 24hrs I had a 2i in my hand instead!
Cheers
Anthony
PS - only on the second hard reset was I using 2.06 2003SE.
Thanks for your feedback Anton. In my case of the 5 hard resets i've so far experienced, only 3 of them was because of a software induced lockup. The other 2 happened on its own without any intervention. Kinda like it just decided on its own to hard reset. I think its a buggy OS that's causing it.
2.06 version
try ExtROM1.13.000version...not the OS.
Hi guys,
FYI about my experience today.
Maybe is link to the Spb Pocket Plus ... Previous im using v 2.3 ... not a problem until today morning.. i tried to install the v 2.5 . Suddenly, ALL.. i mean ALL .. memory has been deleted.. it looks like a hard reset. but lucky my contact list and other infomation is still able to retrive... As i mean ALL .. meaning my programs, storage, extension ROM ... even my SD CARD!! .. .. What happen? I dont know. but that happened when the moment I install the v2.5 PocketPlus.
SPB pocket plus
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/?en
from this site:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After installing Pocket Plus on my XDA II (MDA II or i-Mate) I can`t see storage cards indicators.
The current build of XDA II ROM contains a bug that can cause a hard-reset when a program reads data from a storage card. Due to the bug in ROM, accessing storage cards may cause complete data loss on XDA2 compatible devices. More often it happens with programs that access a storage card in a timer (like Spb Pocket Plus). There are no known solutions for this problem so we have had to disable the showing storage cards indicators on XDA II. We`ll enable this feature when HTC fixes this bug in their ROM.
But stil the hard reset occur......
got same problem... try your suggestion
I 'm also use the spb plus but v2.0 got the same problem... it just hard resetting in my pocket... I think it's not software induced... thanks for your help.

Strange activesync problem, help appreciated!

Hello all, I'm new to the forums, though they have been a great help already.
However, the following problem I can't seem to get fixed:
I have a Wallaby that used to be a german T-mobile MDA. When I got it a few days ago, Activesync would not recognise it even though it recognises my MDA Compact, my SPV C500 and my Toshiba e330 without problems.
I noticed that Windows recognises it as an USB device, for which it tries to find drivers (and fails, obviously).
No matter, thought I, as I want a new english ROM anyway.
I cooked a new ROM based on 4.01.12 and flashed it onto the Wallaby via SD-card without any trouble, it's running like a charm.
However, the same problem still occurs with activesync.
Though it recognises each and every other device i throw at it, the Wallaby doesn't register. Searching for it doesn't help, I've changed the baud rates to no avail...I'm getting a bit frustrated by now.
I'm using Activesync 3.8 as 4.0 doesn't seem to have any advantages for my PPC2003(SE) PDAs.
Any help would be appreciated.
with regards,
As
ADDENDUM:
I've disassembled the cradle, which left me with a mini-usb cable.
My MDA Compact synchronises just fine through that cable.
After reassembly, the Wallaby is still only recognised as an unknown USB-device.
Am I correct in assuming that there are now only two options left:
1: the circuitry in the cradle is somehow broken
2: the Wallaby itself is somehow kaputt in regards to activesync (though charging is not a problem).

Warning on Blackberry Connect 2.1.2.54

You know how you should never change two things at the same time, just in case something breaks, that way you will know what it was.
Well, I broke that rule on Friday and upgraded my AU Telstra Jasjam with radio 1.35 and BB Connect 2.1.2.54.
Using UMTS the Jasjam got hot enough to be uncomfortable to touch and the battery flattened in 1.5hrs. You could actually watch the battery meter go down.
After restoring the original 1.20 radio the powr consumption problem was still there, so I spent quite some time scrubbing BB Connect 2.1.2.54 from my Jasjam and re-installed 2.1.2.16.
After having UMTS connected for BB all night it only dropped 10%, as it used to.
There may be a problem with the latest version of BB Connect. I'm not brave enough now to try out 2.1.2.31 that is being used to support XDA Live .20 but would be interested if anyone else is running it on WM5.

Further info...
After reverting to BB 2.1.2.16 and the standard Telstra radio everything was fine until yesterday. After a soft reset to get the device to connect to my car charger (I have not purchased a proper jasjam charger yet) I found it was running very very slowly, got seriously hot and started to drain the battery.
I tried a few soft resets and a cold boot but each time the BB software connected via UMTS the speed dropped, the heat went up and the battery drained. So I suspended the BB software and, after a minute, things seemed to return to normal. As stated I had tried 2.1.2.54 but got the overheating problem so I reverted to 2.1.2.16 which was now also overheating.
So, when I finally got home I loaded up acbTaskMan (google for it) and used it to check the processesing and power consumption. When BB was suspended it was approx. 10%CPU and 50-60mA. But when I started BB it ramped up to 99%CPU and 500mA. No wonder it was getting hot.
So I tried uninstalling and reinstalled BB 2.1.2.16 (Keeping the settings) but as soon as it connected the processing and power jumped up again.
So I did an uninstall and remove all settings and then reinstalled 2.1.2.54 and, after I configured it with my corporate BES power and CPU where back to normal. (10% CPU & 80-90mA connected to UMTS)
Interestingly when I get an email notification the power does jump briefly up to 500mA and then it drops back down.
So it appears that my power consumption problems have something to do with a rogue Blackberry session that just keeps hammering the UMTS link. After an uninstall and reinstall all is fine.
Just thought I would post this so others may make use of some of it.
Telstra didnt give you a charger?? Bit harsh. When was this, as i was provided with one late last year.
PS... Try ROM 2.05.255.1 if you want to stick with WM5 & radio 1.38.00.xx - works an absolute treat with telstra umts. Noticed a huge reduction in power consumption, altho not sure if it will impact your prob with blackberry connect.
Just grab telstra settings cab and apply after rom upgrade... makes life much easier...

WM6 Upgrade on my hermes.. call delay problems..

Hi there all,
<rant>
So I finally got around to flashing WM6 onto my hermes... to give you a bit of background; I had completely stopped using my hermes and had gone back to my ancient (in tech terms) Nokia 6230i after WM5 had become perishingly slow. It had become so much of a pain to connect to my parrot handsfree that I had stopped using that too... (£114 wasted). Also on every phone call there was at least a three ring delay from someone calling me, to my phone realising it should be ringing... not impressed.
So I thought that a flash to a WM6 rom might help, after having a look around for a little while, I went for Schaps 4.31, initially, its a massive improvement, the phone is quick and responsive, and generally runs much quicker, plus there are lots of nice little things like HTC home...
However the delayed phone ringing still seems to be an issue... when I am in the middle of using the phone or if the phone is out of standby and I receive a phone call, it seems to react much quicker than WM5 ever did, almost instantly realising that it should be ringing, much better. However, if the device has gone into standby, then it will completely ignore that there is an incoming call... It simply does not ring... I have just tried 3 or 4 times and my phone hasn't rung once, after I have hung up on my home phone I have been bringing the device out of standby to see if it has registered the call at all, as soon as I turn the device on there is a missed call on it...
This is so intensely irritating! As I am sure you can appreiciate! At least with WM5 there would be a wait of 3-4 rings beofre it brought itself out of standby and then it would ring, but with WM6, nothing! Surely I can't be the only one experiencing this? I can't even say that this might be just my hermes, as I had it replaced by vodafone about 2 months ago...
Sadly... I will be reverting back to my Nokia after I have written this, at least it is able to send/ receive calls without falling over... I cannot belive that I have a piece of hardware sitting on my desk that is, after all the bells and whistles, supposed to be a phone, and doesn't work as one!!! If an old Nokia can manage it why cant my hermes? At this moment there is a hermes selling on ebay of £139, I am very tempted....
Annoyingly my friends iPhone seems to do all the phone functions flawlessly along with lots of lovely web and data integration... It is still apple though..
Does anyone have any suggestions to improve my woes?
Sorry for the massive <\rant>

Update...
About half an hour ago I completed a radio ROM update to 1.56.70.11, I thought that updating the radio stack might go some way to solving my delayed call issues.
Well it hasn't helped at all. The acquisition of signal, and the strength of that signal seems improved, but if my device is in standby then it simply doesn't wake up if there is a call coming in. This effectively renders my tytn totally useless...
Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? I am sure I can't be the only person experiencing this...?
For reference my phone is now running:
Rom: Schaps 4.31 LITE
Radio: 1.56.70.11
Any help would be hugely appreciated...
Trinityj5.
You could try updating the os to fix the standby problem... Schaps 4.31 LITE is fairly old now, If I was you I'd try a wm6.1... They're fairly stable now and are pretty quick too. You could also try to update the .net framework on your PDA to 3.5 but this may require you to do some registry tweaking. Easier to find a cooked os with .net 3.5 already cooked in.
I've always had my phone wake up when a call comes in - even in standby so not sure why yours doesn't. Could be a setting you or your network have imposed.
Make sure you've Hard SPLed your phone before flashing though...
Cheers...
Thanks for your reply ultramag, I think I did at some point have a 6.1 ROM on my hermes, and I don't think it made any difference to the call delay issues. I will flash one again tonight and then report back...
Which 6.1 rom would you recommend?
Why would updating the .net help with incoming call issues?
Cheers.
For the wm6.1 roms I prefer the PDAViet roms and PDACorner roms. Other roms are good too but I like these ones best...
I don't know if updating the .net framework on your phone will speed it up but it does seem to speed up windows. I may be wrong, but if you can speed up the time it takes windows to register the call then wouldn't it speed up the time it rings?
I believe you can change the call forwarding time up to 30 secs if the network only gives you 5 or 10. Its in settings>personal>phone>services>call forwarding.
Hope this helps...
Cheers...
Will upgrade to WM6 lock phone again?
Greetings to All and Thank God For this Forum
I successfully unlocked my Cingular 8525 >year ago. I am still running WM5. I would like to use a micro sd card greater than the 2Gb now installed and believe that is possible with WM6 OS. I'm concerned that I not lock my phone if I upgrade with AT&T's download of WM6. TIA-
docwollf, not sure posting in here will get you very far, try posting in the main forum...
ultramag69, thanks for your suggestion about the PDAviet and PDA corner roms, I tried both, and still my phone doesn't want to work.... Do you think that flashing an "official" rom might help? There has been some mention on here that if your phone starts to become unstable then flashing an official ROM may help, do you think it might help me?
Does anyone have any idea at all why my phone might not ring when it's in standby? Its starting to become intensely annoying to be honest....
Trinityj5.
Try flashing the official rom first, then flash your phone with hardspl, then try the new rom. That may work, but it almost sounds like you have a hardware issue.
Thanks for your reply backspacepc,
When I said to install an official ROM, I meant one like the at&t one or the dopod aisa one, I don't have a WM6 ROM for vodafone, they never released one... would going back to the Voda WM5, then hard spl, then a WM6 ROM help do you think?
I am thinking the same as you about hardware... is there a firmware upgrade at all? I have tried over 10 different ROM's now, some WM6 some WM6.1, still no improvement on the ring delay....
If I hadn't have voided the warranty by flashing etc, I would be sending it back....
Any help is hugely appreciated, as you can probably tell, getting quite exasperated with it now...
Trinityj5.
If you downgrade the SPL back to stock and the original os back to stock then you can take it back under warranty. There are instructions in the wiki on how to do this. I believe you may ALREADY have Hard SPL on your Hermes (to check go to bootloader - hold power, OK button above flywheel and reset with stylus, hold in untilyou get to the tri-colour screen. If your SPL is 2.10 olipro, its Hard SPLed) which means you're gonna have to downgrade the SPL. Unless you supercid your Hermes.
You can find the downgrade instructions, I believe, in mr Vanx's tutorials...
Cheers...
Thanks for your reply ultramag,
I do indeed already have Hard SPL on my hermes, I put it there...
I have been looking at downgrading back to stock and then seeing if I can get it replaced, I find it unlikely that voda will even consider it to be honest... HTC might though...
Is there a hardware upgrade that I can try out at all?
Cheers,
Trinityj5
If you open it then you will DEFINATELY void warranty... If you still are within the warranty period its better to send in for repairs than to fiddle yourself.
There are manuals floating around (HTC service manual) that tells you how to take apart and put your Hermes back together, just do a search. Or if you want try Mike Channon's webpage, found at the bottom of his posts. However, if you still have warranty, thats the best way to go...
Cheers...
Sorry! I didn't mean hardware upgrade, I meant firmware....
Are there any firmware upgrades around? It strikes me that the phone doesn't know how to handle a call when it is coming in, so it just ignores it... A firmware issue?
Cheers, sorry again for the mix up!

1st thing I'd do is to check all my settings. Both phone and volume. Maybe, if you back up and restore the same settings, you've backed it up for silent or vibrate only.
I know that when a call comes through that its slower to wake up from standby when it also has to access the sd card for an MP3 ringtone....
Check out, with Schapps advanced config, how long it takes the battery & AC to resume from timeout. I set mine to about 10 secs.
Also, you should check how much time it takes before call forwarding kicks in. Go to settings>personal>Phone>services>call forwarding. You can set it to a maximum of 30 secs.
These may or may not help, I'm just throwing ideas out.
Hope they help...
Well I didn't back up my settings, it was a brand new phone when I started so I didn't have any settings to restore.
I have mine set to 10 secs too...
My call forwarding is also set to 30 secs...
Thanks for all your suggestions, I think I might downgrade everything back to stock and see what happens from there...
I'm still wondering what exactly is going wrong in my device... It must be some kind of programming setting that has been set wrong... utterly bizzare... can anyone offer any advice to this end?
