Should I use PoketZenPhone or MyProfiles - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

PZP seems to have all the features but it also seems to be very buggy. I found (after a long hard search) the original freeware version and I had to hack the config files by hand by working out what those codes for the various ring types meant to get it working with my JAM. It doesnt matter how cheap something is if it doesnt work well on my device. MyProfiles is a lot simpler and works seemingly without bugs.
update: while writing this I just checked the PZP site and noticed that there is a time limited Beta so I will try this.
2nd update: just tried it. same problems as before with the JAM. BT settings disappear, Phone volume goes to zero so I would end up missing calls. What is the difference between System, phone and speaker volumes anyway. I dont know, and neither does my Imate JAM

Upgrading from XDA I - II, any disadvantages?

I'm thinking of upgrading from XDA I to II, has anybody else who has upgraded come across anythings that was worse on the XDA II than on the XDA I, for example battery life and using the screen outdoors? Also I find PocketPC 2002 very buggy and the phone is unreliable - have these issues been resolved in XDA II/PocketPC 2003?
some people have this issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=10088
some people feel that the screen dont like like it's 65k colouer screen
http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...postorder=asc&highlight=color+colour&start=50
some people dont like the bluetooth stack from ms which xda2 use
which are a bit limited in just about every way you can think of
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=9618&highlight=bluetooth
Wow, wasn't aware of so many potential problems on the XDA 2... I didn't notice any problems with the color while playing with a demo unit. Next time I do get my hands on one I'll scan it more carefully.
I too am using a XDA I, but I do not plan on pouncing on the XDA 2 because there are a few new units on the horizon.. most notably the HP 6300 and MDA III.
well it's not like the colour is worse then xda1 just that some people dont think it's true 16bit colour
Everything is fine with my unit; I just don't like the MS Bluetooth Stack, doesn't let you listen to music through your Bluetooth Headset

Will the MDA3 have this fixed?
i think when no other info is given about bluetooth stacks
then they are using the free and not all that great ms stack

I use XDA1 with WM2003 with no problems. I never use the 2002. What problems are present?
- If you lose reception it will sometimes not automatically reconnect to the network
- If you lose a GPRS connection you have to do a soft-reset to connect again
- Sometimes it won't do a GPRS connection - again a soft reset. Sometimes when it does connect can't download any information
- SPB Full Screen Keyboard sometimes doesn't work because of some fault in the OS. One has to take out the SD card and do a soft reset but when you do that you can't access the SD card
- When you put in a new SD card it won't recognise it - one has to do a soft reset.
- Sometimes the device will do a soft reset on its own, though I think that is down to a lose SIM card.
- If you have the SMS client open while in standby mode you won't get any audio alerts for incoming SMSs
- On some days I get double alarms on one alaram
- One seems to have to do a soft reset before uninstalling programs, if you don't, it tries to uninstall it but you get a busy icon forever
Some of the above are probably hardware problems though some are OS bugs. I wish the device would be a bit more reliable
do you have an xda2 ?
because your profile says xda1 ?
I use my Wallaby about 5-6 moths. (Yes I have an XDA1)
- If you lose reception it will sometimes not automatically reconnect to the network
This happends for me once. But I think the whole OS freeze, maybe from other problem, or program. I lose the network twice a day, because I travel with underground. But no problem to loging on.
- If you lose a GPRS connection you have to do a soft-reset to connect again
Oh yes, this is a roblem. I try GPRS when I bought my device, use internet for one month, and yes, it happends often for me too.
- Sometimes it won't do a GPRS connection - again a soft reset. Sometimes when it does connect can't download any information
Yes, yes. Now, I remember that problem.
- SPB Full Screen Keyboard sometimes doesn't work because of some fault in the OS. One has to take out the SD card and do a soft reset but when you do that you can't access the SD card
I don't use this program
- When you put in a new SD card it won't recognise it - one has to do a soft reset.
I used SD card rarely. Only 5-6 times, when I borrowing one from my friend. But I had no errors like this.
- Sometimes the device will do a soft reset on its own, though I think that is down to a lose SIM card.
Never happend to me
- If you have the SMS client open while in standby mode you won't get any audio alerts for incoming SMSs
Hmm. It mean, when inbox was open? I never tested it.
On some days I get double alarms on one alaram
Only happend for me, when load back a backup, and there was double everithing (contats, appointments....) when I synced with outlook. I think I make something wrong.
- One seems to have to do a soft reset before uninstalling programs, if you don't, it tries to uninstall it but you get a busy icon forever
It is a software failure I think. maybe for the wrong programmed softwares, and the OS.
I hate one thing with this MS phone:
I use startup password. When I receive a call, I can pick up the phone, without enter the password, but can't change the volume. I hate this bug well.
I think the XDA 1 is the best value phone/pda on the market today and the xda developers have made it even better value with their flashing software and bespoke roms. I use one as a phone, navigation system, book reader, mp3 player, internet explorer, pop3 email downloader, games, and much more, there is nothing that comes near to the functionality for the price. I have bought several used 64meg devices for friends and they are all amazed at the value for money, when coupled with gps and tomtom its still cheap but packed with features and options.
I have an XDA1 my only 2 problems are that it does not have a SDIO socket & Bluetooth, and as Cruisin thru said the developers here enhanced the device to be the best working PDA PHONE in the market they could just do that to the Himalaya's as well since it has all the missing features in the Wallaby but it need a lot of hard work.

questions after upgrading to WM6

1. A2DP icon missing
I want to re-direct skype audio to my bluetooth earphone. How can I do that?
2. I can not login MSN/windows alive though skype can login without any problem via WIFI. Seems MSN try to get online through different connection setting? how/where can I define the connection setting for MSN?
3. Phone module die without any sign. All incoming call is diverted to voice mail automatically until soft reset. As if the phone is switched off.
(I am not sure whether this is WM6 related)
this means you might miss important call without any sign!
Does anybody have same experience?
1) I dont think that was ever a default thing? Did you install something and forget? have a cooked rom? There are A2DP solutions in this forum, "Use the Search luke."
2) No, its shagged. I installed the windowslive50.cab file I had on universal, it works now.
3) No idea, mine works fine. Hard reset? Check your sim?
I can get online with my WLM but it does sometimes take a resync of the whole account to do it.
Skype did say (unless changed recently) that they were still working on transferring calls to bt headsets. Which means, currently, that it does not work through anything other than headphones and the mic on the phone.
Comm Manager
Hello,
It is possible to change the green color from the Comm Manager ?
Thanks
French Keyboard
I have upgraded my french Advantage and all is OK apart for keyboard layout. On my old Universal (also french keyboard) I had changes the registry for hklm/software/oem/qwerty layout to 1040C (hex) and it had worked.
On the advantage this does not seem to change anything, any ideas?
Also has anyone got integrated VoIP working? I have used a CAB file from Universal to activate it and SIP Config Tool to do the set up but it does not allow me to select VoIP from today menu.
Anyone got this set up and working? Integrated VoIP is the reason I upgraded to WM6!
Messenger Etc....
Live Messenger stops working correctly after a soft reset. Initially it works fine. Contacts show as offline, although they are still able to contact me and vice-versa.
As far as I can ascertain push email still functions correctly.
I cannot confirm whether this is related to MS's side (rather than the program) as I haven't had chance to check if anyone else experiences the same problems.
Have tried installing the separate CAB file but I am subsequently told that I do not have the necessary permissions (or something like that).
This comes from tests on a T-Mobile branded Ameo (not the brand new one I'm selling, if anyone decides to cross-check!)
I haven't come across any other problems. Seems a bit less laggy than the original T-Mobile ROM, loads up web pages slightly faster too it seems.
No other issues as yet.
Ive had no probs at all since installing the messenger cab.
Still using it now.
Do we know what version of WLM is on this new ROM?
I've pulled \windows\wlmmessenger.exe to desktop and looked at the Version tab...10.6.28.2700 is what comes out.
Pyrofer - can you do the same on your cabbed version and let me know what the version number says? Not always an accurate guide but worth a shot. Also the digital signature is 3rd May 07.
Cheers
Ant
EDIT - never mind, just seen ur post in general Athena tab...10.6.0026.1400
I wonder what is different? If anything? I also wonder whether this is actually a final release of the ROM that's just been leaked early, as WLM is a pretty central component to web using Athena owners (myself very much included) and for it not to work after a soft reset...hmm.
Hi royalmail,
I've got exactly the same problem you mention about the phone.
I was unable to answer calls.
So I belive you've use the second file to upgrade to WM6 (HTC001 ... with ipl...).
You have to go back to WM5 WWE using the last ROM posted in the Athena upload folder in the XDA FTP. After flashing your Athena to WM5, Use the first ROM posted (the one with a readme file included).
And voila! No problem at all since I've done it this morning, everything works fine!
Hope this helps!
Hi Thibale,
I flashed with the t-mobile version. the phone dead only once so far, though i am not sure it's caused by WM6. Anyway, thx for sharing your info.

VOIP - Can speak but I can't hear anything.

Hello,
I setup my voip on the PK3.0 rom, its dialing and it almost works. Except that I can not hear anything, I can speak and the other party hears me just fine, but I can not hear them, anyone came across this? What can you recommend to fix this?
bump, still no resolution to this, it works fine one way. But I can't hear anything the other person is talking....
Anyone?

Hi Guys,
I am trying to run VoIP on my device (which is not athena by the way) and have absolutely the same issue. I have very good knowledge in the voip networks and very good experience and this thing makes me crazy (believe me)
As what i already found is there shouldn`t be any issue:
the RTP is going between the end points without any troubles on the correct ports and everything looks just perfect - i.e. there is no any network issue, SIP communication (SDP related) issue or whatever like that
The possible problems for me are as follow:
- codecs issue - actually if you can make a call and the other side pick it up without the line to be dropped, then this is not the case (at least the codec on windows mobile is working)
- the audio output device - the audio is trying to go out trough a device which is not present on your system - so you are not hearing anything.
I will be glad to chat to anyone who have the same issue and can help me to debug the problem and find the permanent solution. I don`t have big knowledge on windows mobile devices (but at least know how to install cab files and modify the registry settings - hehe) so to anyone who is in deep relationships to this system and can help me -- give me your msn/icq/skype/jabber contact and lets pray together

Hi!
I start by stating that I finally got it "working"! Yeahh! This "thing" costed me a hard reset and a lot of frustration. Let me write down what I think is the issue/"solution".
I say "working" because it is almost impossible to get the sound out of the Athena, unless you use a bluetooth headset (I haven't tried the wired one) and the supplied Voice Dialer.
To keep it short, for the Athena X7501 here is what you need to do to have "native" VoiP working partially as thought:
Connect the BT headset
Leave the Voice Dialer activated (Cyberon Dialer, provided in the original ROM). That means that the relevant entry in the registry shouldn't be set to '0': HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand\LaunchAPEnable
Connect to your VoiP Servce and launch the phone. Now you should see your VoiP provider as agent. Dial the number (Good luck with the ipdialplan.xml) and you see that the Voice Dialer pops-up! Ignore it. The relevant communication port is happily already taken by the VoiP. You hear the sound on your bluetooth Headset. If you like, you can now transfer the sound to the speaker!
To my understanding, after having spent hours on this issue, I think that this is due to a DLL modified by HTC. Don't ask me which one. There is NO registry entry you can play with to solve it, unless you 're really lucky with the DLLs provided. It seems that there was some kind of agreement to make life very difficult to those trying to communicate through VoiP. I personally use VoiP only at home and don't bother too much. Maybe all this is history in the cooked ROM. Let's see.
If you don't need the Voice Dialer, then I suggest you use Fring. It works well both ways. However to use a Bluetooth Headset, you need to deactivate the Voice Dialer in the registry.
I hope this helps.
Rgds
Dod
P.S. The above are applicable to the original US Rom of X7501
There has been a discussion at Skype with respect to 6.1 and Skype failing to work correctly http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=112059
Maybe this might be of help.
Strange problem. Maybe you can try with software like fring.
Ran it on pk3 without any trouble and now running it with the 6.1 rom and still working fine

Cannot access contacts in car

Hi all,
In my Renault BT Car Kit (originally designed by Parrot) it seems to be impossible to access my phone's contacts. I have had it working with one of the earliest Tom Codon ROMs by changing a setting in the advanced settings, bet ever after I have not been able to get it working again.
I have searched the forum several times, but it seems that I am not looking good enough.
The problem is not in my car, since I never changed it's ROM, and my wife's phone (Elf) is working great.
My phone is working great otherwise.
Tanks,
TC.
When you paired the phone with the "car" did you answered Yes to the question where you are asked to allow access to the phone contacts?
Thanks! That would be something hard to overlook , but sadly, there is no such question. Neither from the phone, nor fron the 'car'. The 'car' gives <empty> when accessing names. I have tried copying contacts to the SIM, but that also has the same result.
I have tried many (many! also the original from the provider) different ROMS the past year or so, and all of them have the same 'problem'.
When my wife purchased the Elf, the 'car' allowed it immediately, just as her previous phone (some samsung thing). It is just with the Nike that it has trouble with.
Also the Diamond of my collegue that drives the car every now and then, communicates without hassle.
The stupid this is that it has worked with a previous ROM, and I cannot find (in my memory or the internet) how to activate it again. It's more an annoyment than really really a nessesity (is that a proper word ?). I have also been looking into the advanced configuration of both the Elf and the Nike to spot a difference, but nothing seems available.
I am thinking of calling the 'car' "Christine", and just stop trying, but as a technician, I want to have this working, because it has worked before.
thanks,
T.
I assume that your wife's name is not Christine!
Did you try with WM 6.1 and 6.5, including the original ROM? Did you tried to upgrade the carkit firmware? I am using a Parrot CK-3100LCD carkit but I have no problems with my Niki since the first time I was using it.
The pairing process was started from both sides or only from one side?
No, my wife is not Christine... but Stephen King wrote a book once...
The pairing always starts from both ways, I cannot find 'Christine' from any phone without starting the pairing from both sides.
All different WM versions available for Nike have the same problem. (I have had about 30 different ROMs on my phone, just for the fun of it, only 1 has worked properly after changing 'something' in the advanced settings)
I really have no idea what kind of parrot it is, because it has been re-branded by Renault while integrating it into my Clio. I have for that same reason not tried to upgrade the ROM in 'Christine'.
Strange, very strange what's happening. Did you tried some other radio ROMs?
strange... I know...
I have been on the road for a couple of days, have installed a new ROM prior to leaving, but still the same problem occurs: I can call whomever I like, via the phone itself, and I can answer the phone normally by using the the car's controls.
In the Netherlands it is not allowed to use the phone other then via a carkit, so dialing a number is not really an option here.
I have tried several person's ROMs, also radios (although I have not been able to find a link to the recently used 1.71 version, anyone a link?), and all have the same, except for that once...
thanks!
Did you tried with another Nike (from a friend or coworker) to see what's happens? Do you see (on the car screen) the digits or the name of the callers? Did you tried pairing only from one side? Did you contact Renault for a firmware upgrade of the bluetooth carkit?
A coworker has the same problem with the original ROM in a different car (Volkswagen),
I see only <empty> when accessing the name area from the car,
I have tried pairing on different ways, all with the same result
I have not contacted Renault or Parrot , since ny coworker has the same problem AND it has worked (once) before.
It is just a strange, not really big issue, but I would like to have it out of the way.

[Q] - Ca-Fi Android Car Stereo

Does anyone have the Ca-Fi Android car stereo? It seems it was recently released. I really want one, and will probably get one.
ca-fi.com/en/
Im debating on ordering one too.... though they list a 800mhz and a 1.2ghz version. Seems the 800mhz version is the only one available
Wish XDA would make a section for it and some custom **** was done with it!
total junk. save your money
I got one yesterday and installed it. Save your money. Its total junk. Was definatelu rushed to market.
No android market (yes you read that right)
Navigation requires data connection either through hsdpa gsm 3g or wifi (meaning you have to provide data for navigation to work at all)
Voice navigation doesnt work (it asks you to install additional files via the market, which again doesnt exist so it fails)
Every time i start the unit it goes to fm radio even when i dont want it to. Force closing the radio app does nothing.
The list goes on and on and on. NEVER AGAIN

I actually thkught about that too. Problem is you really cant connect it to a pc so any rooting work woukd have to be done via microsd card and run natively in 2.2. Not only that even if you root it theres no gurantee the android market would be installed as the "default" market. This means the voice navigation may never be solved.
Long story short, i am veey disappointed. :-(
that unfortunately, I wanted one for my birthday

Doesn't it have a USB port on it?
I made the same mistake of purchasing one. I have been unsuccessful in trying to root it. Z4 will just freeze the device requiring a power cycle. I attempted to connect via USB but did not have any luck using this method either. The problem is that the radio runs both USB ports in Host mode. This keeps it from showing up as a device when you connect it to a computer. I have tried both the front and rear ports with Windows and Linux.
I did manage to get the Android Market app installed. It took a good bit of work and involved copying the Google apps including first boot to an SDcard and sideloading them. The first boot app did break my home button, it currently does nothing and I can't figure out how to re associate it with the launcher.
Once I was able to connect my Google account, I was able to sideload the market apk. Of course, this required working wifi. The dumb device is configured for wifi using a wpa_supplicant file which specifies that 802.1x authentication is required. Seeing as I'm not using this on my wifi, I needed an app called wifi fixer to override this setting. I also needed to setup an unsecured wireless network because I couldn't get wifi-fixer to connect to a wep or wpa network. Once connected, the wireless was very spotty but worked long enough for what I needed.
After all this was completed, I was able to download an offline navigation app, copilot live, that would allow me to use the device as a nav while I wasn't sitting in the driveway connected to the wifi. I did try connecting to my rooted DroidX with CM7 using wifi tether but could not get the radio to complete the connection.
As shassouneh pointed out, it boots into FM Radio every time its powered on. This allows it to start playing music quickly, but is very annoying. I typically stream music from my phone over bluetooth which requires the volume to be much louder than when listening to the FM Radio. When you start the vehicle, the volume is remembered and will be deafening. The FM radio application is very buggy and it will take several attempts to save your radio presets with an acceptable name. It tries to use the digitally broadcast station information as the preset name, but often it just returns garbage. After trying some twenty times, I was able to get most of my presets to read the frequency and the FCC station name. (ex. 93.1 WPOC).
The touch screen is very disappointing. It's a low-quality restive type which requires that you touch below the point you're aiming for. This makes getting to buttons at the very bottom of the screen a challenge. I tried calibrating the screen, but was sent into and endless loop of touching the cross-hairs...
The "Phone" app has all the bluetooth configuration including pairing, contacts, music, etc. it is very rudimentary. The radio frequently fails to connect to my phone on its own and needs to be forced to connect. Sometimes the play button will start the phone playing music and other times it won't. I haven't found a rhyme or reason for it yet. It doesn't support AVRCP and as such you get three buttons when streaming music over bluetooth: Previous, Play/Pause, and Next. There's no indication of which song is playing nor is there any way to browse the music on the phone from the radio.
Overall, the device is absolutely terrible. Perhaps if I could root it, I could fix a number of its annoying characteristics and it wouldn't be so bad. I was most disappointed by the poor wifi and the FM radio at boot. There is such potential here to make an awesome device... Do not waste your money on this piece of garbage no matter how tempting it may be.
Bought one also !!!
I discovered that the product seems to be sold has with another brand :
http://www.ekoore.com/web/en/product/car-hi-fi-2/elija-2/overview-6.html
The point is that they are providing an update.zip containing files and probably could be used for rooting the device. Found the link http://www.ekoore.it/download/elija/update.zip in the italian forum.
From what I understood, this is a 2.3 device ...
Confirmed mine is 2.3.3
Tried several rooting tools (Z4, GingerBreak, Visonnary+, Universal Androot ...) none of these are working.
Wasn't able to dump the rom (no ADB, used terminal with RomDump V7.2) but found that there is a physical switch inside the box. I can have a message displayed "No signal received", just by starting the device while the switch is pressed. Didn't manage to konow if this is bootloader mode or not.
Found a Quick Start guide explaining how to build kernel and so on http://wendang.baidu.com/view/6545cb13a216147917112879.html
Chip TC8900 seems to be used widely for several chinese tablets. So rooting shouldn't be as difficult as it seems. My guess is that the only way to have it rooted is to modify the update.zip above....but I don't know how to do it !!
From what I understood, the radio, BT etc ... parts are not running Android and are something completely different. The only way to switch to an android environment is to go to navigate mode.
Guys,
I'm surprised, I've had this installed in my car for a couple months now and it works great and I do use it daily and thoroughly.
I have installed Android market (couple of minutes, easy to do), have my email, contacts, everything setup, I even get auto updates for installed apps
Bluetooth pairing with both my HD2's works flawlessly and synced all contacts from both phones
The dedicated iPod interface works great with my 160Gb iPod, I have a USB hub in the glovebox with a 2.5" HDD , WiFi dongle and 3g dongle all connected in.
Navigation doesn't require a data connection, I have a several different SatNav apps installed - some online and some offline, but I stick with Waze as I like it..., Waze unfortunately starts up in portrait but that's easily sorted with a press of the home key and Waze also puts up a single warning about battery being flat, but there's no battery, so what would you expect.....
can also listen to good quality internet radio on the move
If you buy a device like this, you've gotta expect a data connection to be required for initial setup of your apps and how you want them, I've run the device without internet, through my phone and through a 3g dongle.
It works properly and reliably with my original steering wheel controls and the way it sets this up is the best I've seen on a in car device and simplicity itself.
It also boots to the last source being played, in my case normally iPod, but if the iPod etc is missing, then it will default to the radio.
The touchscreen isn't the best in the world, but is very useable, if the alignment is out then recalibrate it by holding the back button until the calibration screen appears..
Only thing I really don't like is if you burn some mp3's to a cd/dvd, they play through the dvd interface, not through the android media players.
I genuinely like the unit, it's a nice toy to have in the car and has no more issues than any other android device I've used...

Should say that the FM quality is really awful ! Can't even get the RDS working ...
French translation is missing sereval items (or completly false). Got the wifi + market without too much trouble. The touchscreen is usable.
I definitely love to have it rooted

Does anyone have the Ca-Fi Android car stereo? It seems it was recently released. I really want one, and will probably get one.

I've got that stuff from their dealer in Russia, I think juliabrothers.net
Cool device. I loved it sound quality, pure, very sharp image. Very quick response. Yes, the touch screen isn't as good as we used to have on smart phones. Still works o.k. Just look at others DVD player made on Windows CE6.0 platform. They ain't better in anyway.

Could you please give me a hint how you manage to install Market on that thing?
Still working on it. Which Android version do you have? I have 2.2
You see, Android Market which built for smart phones doesn't work very well for CAR stereo devices. That Market doesn't differentiate between "good" and harmful applications, which can shut down your system forever.
Remember most of software designed for smart phones doesn't work under CA-FI platforms. Supplier said so, I 'd be happy to be wrong.....

Found a Quick Start guide explaining how to build kernel and so on
Chip TC8900 seems to be used widely for several chinese tablets.

Is that possible to use that manual for building a kernel, which could be used instead of pre-installed software? Seems interesting. Any thoughts?
Market came from the 2.3.3 build already installed on device. You probably can try the apk within the update archive http://www.ekoore.it/download/elija/update.zip . As the italian website is quite slow i extracted it. From what i understood update seems to not working on all devices.
Regarding the manual, of course I was thinking it could help for anything like root, recovery image or enabling adb. But honestly i don't have enough knowledge to do myself.
Hi Everyone, just found this thread. I have this unit as well and have been building info on the MP3car site about it, overall i'm happy with the unit although i haven't been able to do everything i want to it.
The audio quality for me is good and i can tether data off of my phone to play internet radio and navigate through waze or otherwise. I'd definately like to see some development in this area myself as there are some welcome improvements to be made. i've sideloaded the market but was never able to update it. the player will default to the last built in media that was played when it shuts down and there seems to be several volume streams built in, i've heard people haven't been able to adjust these with volume apps.
here is the MP3car thread: http://www.mp3car.com/android-tablet/150109-innotrends-ca-fi-on-order-will-review.html
Upon request, here is the update zip from the italian forum. Rename from update.zip to elira-update.zip

I recently purchased and installed the Ca-Fi "Universal" 620 to replace my JVC head unit that died after 5 years. Because there isn't much information out there about this product, not even from the manufacture, I thought I'd provide the good and bad from an audiophiles perspective(...and I only coin the term audiophile because I have a full on sound system in my car, not because I'm into the lossless debates and all that BS).
The Bad (or the ugly):
-Has an individual RCA jack for subwoofer output. (left/right(white/black, red) is pretty standard. Now I have to buy a sum'er to join the channels. What if I had two subs running left and right channels of bass...I'd be up a creek and would have to buy splitter then a line driver...blah come on.
-Although there is individual subwoofer level control there is no subwoofer (low) frequency control. So, my lows that run to my subwoofer are the lows that will run to my speakers and I can’t do this cause my front stage was meant for highs and mids.
-The Graphic EQ, although having 10+ frequency to set they provide automatic roll off of nearby frequencies so, it's hard to fine tune.If you’re going to give me that many frequencies then please let me control each one of them.
-The balance controls (and all other touch screen sliders)were OK but, they sorely need increase/decrease buttons (i.e. “+” and “-“). Trying to configure a good sound stage is hard with resistive touch screen sliders.
-The P.CNTL (I assume Power Control, again no documentation) is switched off and on when you change sources (or I think actually when no sound is “sensed”) whaa? So now, because my amps have delayed starts, each time I switch a source (or Pandora even buffers a new song) the relay power drops to my amps and I have to wait for my amps to power up again. Not to mention the pops because of the high current switching on and off..man. So now I have to find an off delay relay so my amps don't turn off when I change the source. Now I could very well be the idiot on this one and need to use the P.ANT (I assume power antenna) but, the reason I didn’t is because P.ANT is solid blue wire, whereas P.CNTRL is a blue with white strip which is more industry standard for relay control.
-The boot up source is always going to the Radio. I read some other folks already discuss that here and there but, come on, really, you can't just remember the last source I had.
-Bluetooth (or lack thereof) yes, it will play your music from your phone (in my case HTC Sensation) but, that's about it. If I want to change an artist or song or whatever I have to do it from my phone. I thought it would have this to make me a safer driver so I don't have to look/mess with my phone to get new songs, guess that's what I get for assuming?
-Auto screen Dimmer doesn't work or isn't that great cause I still have to manually dim the screen at night.
-Resistive touchscreen I gotta hammer the screen to push buttons. Each push takes my attention away from the road, no bueno!
-Wifi doesn't support WEP or WPA no biggie since I'm driving and I don't think hackers do drive by hackings (or do they?). But, still sucks cause when I use it at the airport I have to turn it back on. Just a nuisance but, wifi WILL tether (provided you buy the additional USB Wifi Adapter).
-Some Apps don't recognize my wifi connection and thus will not work. Case in point, Google Maps. wft! the whole reason I got the thing was to wifi tether with my phone and control goolge maps from ca-fi. Nope can't do it. booo.
-Double DIN – not really. I don’t know what standards they followed but, my original brackets from my original Double DIN HU (head unit) didn’t work. The unit sticks out so far my radio door won’t close and there’s a gap of about .25 inches on both sides. No install kits will work with this because it’s not truly a standard Double DIN.
The Good
-The bluetooth phone capabilities work good. Contact list is ok. Of course it sucks for me because of the whole P.CNTRL thing. Yes, when I switch to Phone it turns off and on my amps…grrr.
-Mini SD card slots and a miniUSB port in front, very nice/convenient.
-System isn’t as slow as one might think for such a “slow” processor. My HTC Sensation runs circles around this thing ;p.
-Nice interface for the radio.
-You can run Apps. Although a lot of them crash (i.e. Force Close) every now and then for no apparent reason.
-Pandora works (with wifi tether) very nicely.
-Push button (knob) for mute and knob volume control.
….that’s all I’ve got for now but, so far the goods don’t out weight the bads so, I’m not happy with regards to the amount of money I spent vs. what I’m getting vs. what actually works. I’m not upset because I went into this fully knowing I was going to be a guinea pig but, if you’re a music first, apps and other **** second, kind of person like me steer clear my friends.
Not that any manufacture ever cares or even reacts to forum post, I’m going to try and communicate this to the manufacture and hopefully see if a) they’re aware of these issues and b)if they plan to release fixes/patches to help their “new adopters” out. Don’t get me wrong this company has a great product and great idea but, they’re seriously mistaken if they think they can compete with the big boys (Android Apps or no Android Apps).
What do jou Guys/girls think about this product....... http://www.chinavasion.com/2-din-ca...chable-android-23-tablet-panel-wifi-gps-dvbt/
I find it very interesting
