Gsm Error .... - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

hey! my mother got a O2 XDA(1) from o2. we bought the device from ebay, so dont think, we ripped it some guy off .
the xda was working perfectly without any problem, till the last 3 days.
after i found out my mother didnt ever used active-sync, i nearly thought all her 300 contacts in this thingy were lost .... the xda showed sporadic flashing of backlight (1sec) and was actually very slow in the menu. it needed 3-5 secs to open start=>programs. i finally made it (after 5 trys) to do a SD-Backup!!!!!1111 the created file is about 6.2megs big.
a) is this file loaded full of the contacts + reminds of my mother?
b) any cool prog, i can extract the stuff? (even a img where i can prt-screen to just write em down would be enough for me / export to .txt would be the best )
at the moment the device wasnt booting anymore. in the evening it was booting (wallaby bootloader 5.2x i think it was) with an GSM Error. i googled a bit about it and i think the radio stack is broken on my device.
c) is there any way to burn the bootloader back to 5.15 to try a SD-recovery?
d) any other hints that might work to bring the phone back up?
e) "could" it be possible, to disable the radio-part on bootup to access the pda-part at least to retry a active-sync?
some specs i found inside the xda in the working days (2 weeks old now //i was looking for a FW-update, but never found one) :
softwareversion o2v2r4.3
romversion 3.19.01ger - 27.5.03
radioversion 4.21
protokoll 32s54
imei 35031201xxxxxxx
xda modellnr. pw10a1
microsoft pocket pc 3.1.12039(build 11178)
the device is locked to o2-network, but that shouldnt be a problem for my mother or me, we're both at o2.
perhaps someone could help me with my 5 lil questions (a-e) ??
TY!!! john

XDA1 with GSM ERROR on bootloader 1.51

I upgraded a TMobile XDA1 got the main ROM upgrade then went and tried to upgrade the radio stack. As I see from the many posts a bad thing to do. But this leaves me with a broken unit. The radio was T310. I can not see how I can solve this problem. I have an SD card, I have a friends German unit with an ENG Rom and the orignal radio which I will leave alone. How can I fix mine?
Thanks
GSM error on Bootload 1.50
Looks pretty much the same as my problem. By pressing the joystick after the error message, I get one step further, but no contact or upload of the ROM. I hope some wise person can supply an answer,
I have the same problem...
XDA O2 on Wallaby BootLoader v5.15 I see the error : "GSM ERROR"
my pda don´t start good I only see the rom version (3.17.03) and a blue wallpaper of O2..
I already update my rom but it don´t work yet !
Where can I find a GSM rom update? I'm from Portugal
What more can I do ?
Please, help me !
thanks

GSM Error
I have tried a number of solutions. None seem to work. If someone has the GSM rom and a solution to upload it let us know. I have tried coping a new radio version to the windows dir on the PPC, this fails. I have removed the back cover and battery again this does not work. The only alternative is to send it back for repair (expensive) or get a new one. I have looked at the solutions in the forum area and on the web but can not find an answer. The unit is an old TMobile (GERMAN) Xda. Upgraded the OS OK then messed up the radio. So as I say let me know if someone has a proven solution. Thanks.
How to fix GSM Error Problem ....
Download the XDA-Developers ROM Version 1.1.
Install the ROM on your Device via SD-Card and bootloader.
The phone should start up and give you the screen allignment and the whole menu!
Download an Upgrade for your device. This depends ont the model you are using. Check the sticker at the back of your device.
If it is a PW10A-Model download RSU Version 4.16.
If it is a PW10B-Model download RSU Version 6.24.20.
Extract the downloaded ZIP-File and copy all files to the /Windows directory of your device.
Copy the RSUpgrade.exe additional to the /windows/startup directory.
Make an soft reset of your device.
Maybe the upgrade will stop again at 1%, this may occur when you have an empty battery.
Place your device in the cradle. Run Active Sync on your device.
The RSU Upgrade will run in the background.
Wait for about 10 Minutes. The upgrade should complete in the background....
Afterwards all should work again...
Good luck....

GSM Error
Many thanks for the information. I have tried this but to sorry to say this does not work for me. I can get the RSUgrade.exe to load on the PDA, it stops at 1% and then hangs. The XDA was a TMobile GER unit with 32Mb. I have two units the same, I attempted to upgrade the radio on one and it failed at 10% rebooted and hung with GSM error. Since then I am at a loss as to the next step apart from throwing it in the bin.
same here
it always promt me failed flash device restart press ok. wat the hell is dis . does my gsm rom id basted?day i cant upgrde it tnx
Same problem..
.. and no solution for the GSM Error. There is no possibility to get a connect (O2 germany) and the RSU-Utility stops after 1% - always.
Please help!
Have you tried leaving it for 24 hours with the 1% on screen?
Flash failed
The problem is that there is a message "Flash failed - press ok to restart."
No possibility to leave the program..
same w u
ya i wish someone can find any sol 4 our prob. same problem w u guys.

I'm just about to come into possession of one.

...Details are best left private, but the unit was one of the first Atoms to be released. it has been upgraded to the Jan rom, and then left alone because its owner was, uh, more chicken than I am. The Mini I used to own will be going to someone else. >_>
I will miss Bigstorage, a small price to pay for (somewhat) limited Wifi and no longer having to fear losing all my data to a power out.
Few questions here:
1. Is it safe to use the Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822.exe from the FTP yet?
2. Should I use that or the Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822.exe ?
3. Is there a way to disable the message that refuses to run unsigned exes, or is there an exe signer anywhere? I remember it having problems with programs that don't need installation.
Thanks in advance.
...Just got it today.
Apparently it's been through the service centre once, so it's ROM turned out to be the 20060426 one - radio still at RS*49. Still wondering if I should flash for the new radio driver.
I've read through the forums and I think I won't be messing around with the Exec rom for now.
Thanks, all.
i currently using the Atom with Atom Exec ROM version Xda-Atom-Exec-ENG-20060721-MOT0822
and so far until now, no prob at all..
anyone know how to cook WM5 ROM in atom,
cause, i see to other forum, they have the ROM WM5 AKU3.5 into their device,,
why can we (atom) have that to??
Ehehehehehe. Finally took the risk, nearly lost my phone - tho it was easily fixed by flashing over with the same Exec rom again. The ROM I grabbed from the FTP right here on xdadev. <_<
See, a funny thing happened.
I installed the Extrom revealer hack for extra space.
Then I installed SKTools Trial 3.0.75 - and thereafter the Extrom revealer hack stopped working.
So my device asked me this question - "Do you want to format your Storage Card so it's easily readable?"
not wanting to get my 2gig eaten, I removed it, and tried to click NO... only I accidentially touched "Yes".
Whoops.
Everything just stopped working - well, except the phone and basic winDOS mobile 5 apps.
Soft reset - device took ages to boot. Nothing that isn't WM5 native runs.
Hard reset - device went wonky, still booted, but screen got out of alignment. Still usable, but autoconfig not working (detected Sim as jumble of numbers, but phone still works).
Went into device settings -> system info.
Guess what I saw:
CMOS: NULL (WTF)
ExtROM: NULL (WTF)
...correct
...correct
...correct
And upon looking at the Flash Size, I saw 192MB (?!). Fake number?
(No screenshots will be made avaliable. I will NOT do this again.)
Anyways, a reflash put the unit back in full working condition, problem, but I'm still seeing it report that I have 192MB of Flash RAM avaliable. Oy.
Still workink for now, but I hope this won't mess up the system any. -.-

stuck at 11% in ROM upgrade and 0% in radio upgrade!!*SOLVED*

I don't know. In my country I have a htc services and they say to me that my motherboard must be replaced because is to hard to change only radio chip and they only change all motherboard. For 350 Eur(+some Eur) I can by new Tytn. Now I use my pda in my home (in toalet) via wireles to look internet. Work's fine, but sometimes freeze OS and I must do soft reset.
ok guys , i might found a temp solution or maybe it will work permenantely with some one , but i need some one who have spare time and steel nerves coz i'm sick and tired of trying many files and roms and radios .
so any one is willing to start this experiment with his hermes and his spare-time lets begin .
first of all i want to declare that this method revived my radio and i used my device for one day just fine receiving and making calls . then the next day i decided to make a hard reset to see if the radio will stay working , and the result was the radio was dead .
here we go .
1.flash you device with GM360 gold edition http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329282 don't ask why just try it .
2.after the phone is flashed with gm360 and working ok with no radio or "no gsm" messege now you should flash your phone with your device manufacturer WM5 ROM .
3. to flash WM5 rom you need to follow mr.vanx guide for safe WM5 downgrade . http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=27&Itemid=26 here it is .
4. now after you've flashed WM5 successfully and your device is also working fine with it but still no radio or "no gsm" . you need to flash only radio to your device . no OS only the radio .
5. download this radio . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334697 and unrar it on some folder . and don't flash it yet to your device .
6 download Olipro RUUwraper 5.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298737 there u go.
7. now the files from step "5" which they are the radio 1.54 put the file ruuwrapper from step "6" in the same folder with them to start the radio upgrade using "RUUWrapper.exe" not "ROMUpgradeUt.exe" . when u run it you will have multiple choices , choose "Force Unsafe SSPL (not recommended)" . .
now the radio upgrade should go smoothly as it went for me the first time . after the radio upgrade is done u should be able to use ur radio fine .
now can some one take half the effort of me writing this long method and try it ? thanx for the feedback also .
good luck for all .

Just now I finished all, by your instruction, step by step. When do the last step, flashing radio rom it's stuck on 0%. Many thank's for help, but it does not work for me.
a-h-t1,
thx for your discription,I'll try your method as soon as i can(because ADSL isn't much available!!)
eraserbabyboy,
can you tell me when did this problem happen to you(i mean loosing GSM)??did it happen when you was flashing WM6 ROM??
I really want to know why this problem happen to me while i didn't have it before flashing??is flashing cause to a hardware problem???

Hamed I dont know what's happened with my hermes, because I get him with the no gsm error. I have a bootloader 1.09 with enable kitl mode. In PB I lose many, many night to boot os but without sucess. And post many question here, but without answer, a-h-t1 is the first men who try to help and meny 10x for that.
So, before 2 week I send my hermes to Imei-check and before few days I get it back with bootloader 1.01 mfg and instruction from imei teamroblem_Description: The radio chip is faulty 100%. Now the handset is usable as PDA only (wifi + bluetooth working too), but not as a phone (the GSM module refuse to answer/flash).
DO NOT attempt to upgrade the firmware in the phone with a firmware which has RADIO upgrade, as it will put the handset back to the brick mode!!!
Model is SVP3100.
After that I put the SPL 2.30 Olipro to prevent any future damage, and continuing to "play" and experiment, because I don't have more than, to loose. I have P3300 who work's very nice....
It's possible to boot any OS without radio. (I use nbh tool 1.01 to extract nbh file to nb and after make Ruu_signed but without radio). Also try metod via SD card and same to you, stop when try to flash radio. Also it's happened on 12-13%(independed of the rom version) when start full RUU upgrade. And when try to flashing only radio they stop on 0%. On 12-13% ruu upgrade try to flash radio in this moment, and this is the end. I am not sure is this hardware problems, but imei (I dont belived too much) said YES. In win OS I don't have a imei identification (in device info/identity) and of course radio version is blank. Sometimes happened that os blocked(freeze) or device just totaly go to power off mode and I must to do soft reset. Is any way to totaly disabled phone function in registry? I mean that freeze when phone try to find network or sim, but I am not shure. Last night I open my devices, and get out motherboard, just to see this famously radio chip. It's not possible in "home made" to change yourself this chip. Only if I have a more lucky and found some broken hermes with ok motherboard for 100-150 eur...
I hope that my info just little help to you to know "mystery" about our problems.
And one more time 10x to a-h-t1!

I just tried it and same result like you
but many thx for a-h-t1 and eraserbabyboy's help.now I want to try fix it in hardware way!!
but if anyone has idea about our problem please say here.i think it's going to be common problem, because i see many people in xda who has the same problem.
Read this, to see how I solve my problem. But I still have a hope, that it's not hardware problem and in the future I hope that someone will found software key to solve our corrupted radio.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=338413
ok,i think it was almost three months ago that i had posted my last post!!
you know my problem and i feel it has became a common problem for poeple who have hermes, unfortunately.
last week,i found a service man who believed that my phone's problem is fixable.
so i gave my pda to him,and because he lives in another city,i returned to mine and waited for him.
yesterday i phoned him,and this is what he said to me:
"first,I tried software methods, but the result was nothing!then I disassembled the device and changed the piece of RF of your ppc.it hung first, but now it loads the windows and find the antenna too!!but immediatly after finding,it hangs."
he has used the Dopod's RF in my htc TyTN and thinks that this problem(hanging after finding the antenna) is because of not matched radiorom.
I have good feel about his say,and i'm trying to help him find the correct radio rom, because he is so busy and cant search the internet to find the radiorom.so I've mailed him the link of wiki's radio rom for hermes and I hope someday this tragedy will finish but i'm not sure.
if anyone have comment about this case please help us,specialy about the RF,because I don't know anything about the Radio Frequency.
I HAD the EXACT same problem I Hermes would get stuck at 11% EVERYtime I tried to flash the OS rom with WM6!! The upgrade process would start and then [email protected]! 11% and I would get ERROR 262 (loss of communication) No FIX anywhere, even with site full of "supposed Hermes Fanboys" Nothing NOBODY knows nothing bout this issue. BUT I think I have found a fix (I have recovered twice gonna do it 1 more time to confirm METHOD)
1a
Its called a 1a brick. Look in the sticky brick section. like 170+ pages of this issue. I believe I have the same device. No GSM/ no imei no radio. Can flash rom's all day long, as long as rom doesnt include GSM. Try to flash ANY GSM does nothing, let it sit 10hrs... Nice free PDA, till i can figure out the wiki & there must be hope for me. Till then my wiz100 keeps rocking. Like the 8525, but wanted it more as a phone then just pda.

o0o0k!!
as I've said in my post, the service man that I love! replaced the RF of my pda,but new problem was hanging after finding the antena!!
as he told me yesterday,he tried another used RF,but this time the TyTN's one and it worked) and there is no problem.so after 4 months nearly I can use my pda.
as soon as I can,I will go to get my device and test it myself.
be wait for my smooth experience!!

its full name is RFSP=Radio Frequency Signal Processor.it's one of ICs on your Hermes mainboard.it needs a professional to replace.I'll explain more early.
but if you have same problem and have tried all of the the wiki methods then you can test my solution.

No Radio,No CID,No IMEI-Hardware faulty!?

Hi to all. I solve my problem. Change myself motherboard. I buy second hand hermes with no working keyboard for 100eu (latter I solve even this problems, bad contact on flat cable)) and change the motherboard to my spv m3100. It's stupid to say that I solve this with some software, it's was hardware
faulty (or maybe not???) and I am very happy, because I can use my hermes again.
Now I have a one, my "old" motherboard (hermes) who working like pda, wi-fi and bluetooth also working, but without gsm. If any wish to do some experiment I am here, waiting for instruction. Also, I add some picture from the phase of changing motherboard.
Information for "experimental" hermes:
HERM 200
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.30.Olipro
Rom version:Schap's 4.00
Rom Date: 10/15/07
Radio version: none
Protocol version: none
ExtROM version: 3.60.20070822
No cid, no imei, can't flash radio (stuck in 0%)
Can't flash OS which contains radio (stuck in 12-13%)
Regards for all on this forum.
Hi,
how are you?
do you know is it possible to replace just radiochip to fix our hermes??
How I see, in "home made" it's not possible, because we don't have a special equipment for that operation. Even if you have, but where you can found this famously radio chip? If you wont, I can open my "experimental" Hermes and make a picture of all chip and send to you, but I think that on ftp you have all manuals and pictures with the name of each part. I use this manuals to safely open my hermes and myself change the motherboard.
If I understand you, your hermes working like PDA, without gsm. Do you have a same problem, that devices turn off yourself and until soft reset they don't wont to wake up? Also phone function working very slowly, sometimes it's not possible to activate connection manager...etc
And if you agree, please to continuing disscusion on this thread. Thank's.

Ok , i've joind the club of "no gsm" 3 months ago . and i've tried many many roms and radios and still no luck .
but in one try i've succeeded in flashing the radio to 100% and the radio worked very well and that night was 5 in the morning i danced on the desk when i saw it . i just couldn't belive it . i called my hermes 20 times from another mobile to hear the defult stupid WM5 ring tone , i missed it really
any way i couldn't believe my eyes , so i tried to do a hard reset to check if the radio will stay or go , it just vanished and again back NO GSM . i was disappointed really .
here's the way it succeeded with me and i was gonna post it for every one else as a solution but it happened with me once , and now it wont pass 0% .
here we go .
1.flash you device with GM360 gold edition http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329282 don't ask why just try it .

i guess it was my one last lucky chance , and i blew it up with hard reset .
anyway the only solution right now for no gsm is to change motherboard unfortunatley
Nudge!!! :S
I lost my Radio today, also the IMEI is gone.
This morning it was working and this afternoon it just stopped, tried a hard reset, still nothing. Just tried to flash 1.54, but that didn't work, now trying 1.51 and i see the progress bar, but it stays at 0%
I will leave it this way at my computer and come back later, but it looks the radiorom is broken
I can flash everything except the radiopart, i really seems broken, i've tried flashing with different SPL versions including 2.60 olipro en SSPL.
Also the phone seems to be a lot slower.
But prior to this all the phone did hang often for the last few weeks, so i guess it was already starting to breakdown
i also have a almost similar experience, can anyone verify that the phone is already breaking down??

What exactly is your problem? I've been noticing that about 70% of my calls fail or hang when I attempt to dial, when I try again they usually go through. I also have problems sending txt messages very often. Is my phone on its way out? I haven't even had this phone for a year.....pisses me off

My phone started to hang a lot last week, just for a minute and then come back again, also losing the phone connection. First i thought it was some software i installed. New rom, problem stayed the same.
And then yesterday i totaly lost the radio part, can't flash it in any way, but the phone still seems a lot slower then normal, like it's still looking for the phone part or something
I gues it's just broken, and as it is older then a year, i gues it is really trashed.....
So i think i'm gona buy a new accu for my old phone, my abbo ends in aug 2008, so no new phone before then

I have now spent over 2 days on this site reading all that I can, but I am at a loss and desperate for your expertise!
I am running a UK Tmobile Vario 2. I was having problems with the phone crashing constantly and not getting any signal at all so I installed WM6 yesterday hoping this would help. Its not crashing as much, but its still not getting any signal.
After reading loads of threads and posts all over the place (I have read enough WIKI to make my eyes bleed), I think I need to update the radio version. This is the information I can gather from my phone:
Bootloader info-
Herm300
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.03
I cant figure out how to enter commands in bootloader to gather any more info I tried the mtty.exe thing with no avail. When I go to "device information" it reads like this:
ROM version: 3.60.110.4
ROM date: 09/05/07
Radio version: SAYS NOTHING!!!!
Protocol version: SAYS NOTHING!!
IMEI: SAYS NOTHING!!
When I do a soft reset I get red letters and numbers appearing and not the "no gsm" message.
This is a 2nd hand phone off of ebay as my original phone was stolen. I have contacted Tmobile, but they refuse to help me as its not the original phone that I bought.
I would be most grateful for any help you can give me!!
Thanks,
April
OK, firstly.....flash hardspl.........instructions here
Next flash ANY radio......try version 1.48.00.10.
with the device booted up and synched with Activesync, download the radio ROM, unzip and run the RUUprogram (the only exe in the zip).
select autodetect, it should highlite SPL v2.10 and tick the "HardSPL?" box.
go through each screen and accept everything......the radio will be flashed.
Hopefully your device will work properly after this.
uh oh...
Thanks so much for your speedy response. Obviously I managed to screw this up.
got to this stage
"select autodetect, it should highlite SPL v2.10 and tick the "HardSPL?" box."
It didnt autodetect, so selected SPL v2.10 and ticked "HardSPL" box manually. Went through all the other bits and when it starts to do its thing it just sits at 0% then i get error message "ERROR 262: UPDATE ERROR. The rom update utility has encountered communication errors during the update process. THe program will guide you step by step to recover from the errors so you can continue with the update."
So I followed the recovery process instructions several times. Nothing has worked. Have tried restarting my computer and doing a hard reset on phone, and stuck with the bootloader screen reading IPL 1.04 and HERM300 SPL-2.10.01Olipro.
Manage to get back to this stage
"select autodetect, it should highlite SPL v2.10 and tick the "HardSPL?" box."
and go through the ticks but always ends up with error message 262.
SORRY!
Sorry to hear about your problems.
Was it the official T-Mobile WM6 ?
If so it was another 1.50 Radio!
I have same now!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357275
I read in another thread try putting phone in fridge for 15mins first without the battery.
Good Luck
fridge vs. floor
Yes, it was the official WM6 from T-Mobile.
Im worried now that my limited experience with flashing, cooking, and now crying will leave me with a proper "brick".
I will try the fridge thing, if I ever get it to loads WM6 again but for the mean time, I will continue to throw it on the floor.
What do you mean by it was another 1.50 radio? I dont know what version I once had, but as suggested by mrvanx, I was trying to upload the 1.48.00.01.
Again apologies for my complete ignorance, but Im sure there are others that share my stupidity and will benefit from me asking goofy questions. If anyone else has any more simpleton advice on how to revive my poor phone, I would be much obliged!
Thanks,
April
The 1.50 radio bit; If it was the official T-Mobile WM6 upgrade, then your radio will have been 1.50 (I am pretty sure)
I dont know what else to do!!??
Ok since trying to update my radio from nothing to 1.48.00.01 and receiving error message 262 during the update, my phone now only goes into bootloader mode reading the following:
HERM300
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.0lipro
I have tried the following to bring it back to life (but not in any particular order):
- restarted my pc several times
- made sure my Windows XP SP2 was up to date
- made sure I had .net framework up to date
- hard reset on phone
- soft reset on phone
- leaving battery out overnight
- updating SPL to 2.10.0lipro (again) doesnt get to any percentage, just straight to error 260
- updating radio to 1.48.00.01 (again) - wont autodetect. tried radio button SPL2.10, then just force safe, then just HardSPL. each option dies at 0% then error message 262)
- reinstalling TMobile version WM6 (again) - dies at 11% - error message 262
I saw the post by pof "How to unbrick your bricked hermes" and the solution was to "Flash any radio in NBH format", but I cant figure out how to do that!? (I have tried clicking on the nbh file in the downloaded radio folder, but dont know what program to use to unload all the info. Have also looked at all the links on "Radio sudden death issue knowledge consolidation" and nothing has helped.
Sorry again guys, but can someone please help
If not, does anyone want to buy my brick?

Dude - there are enough bricks around these parts to build a 500 story repair centre! All we need is MS to merge their NT, CE and ME technologies into CEMENT then we can hold all the bricks together
Error 260 (comms error) is usually caused by using Vista without "fixing" it or Win2K/XP without the .net framework on it
Error 262 is USB port not available - turning hermes off and on (or removing the battery if that fails) at that point and putting it manually into bootloader usually cures that one then continuing with the flash.
Incorrect.
Its more than likely this Vario II was irepairably bricked before the TC bought it, the Radio upgrade is failing on a Tmobile official ROM (which includes a radio) and on a standard CustomRUU upgrade for the radio only.
A "checkimage" command in mtty would probabaly return a failed radio checksum and following on from that the mtty commands to get into the radio bootloader will fail (rtask a......then rversion).
Also there may be a corrupted CID on the device which again isnt good.
Ive seen these types of bricks MANY times.
Sorry dude, looks like your Hermes was a paperweight when you bought it.
Never thought of that - shameful given the amount of radio investigating I've done recently Too busy on 260's with part flashes from people not installing .net (also the amount of hits you should be getting to your vista guide now is scary!)
Still say we should collect up all the bricks and build a repair centre

73039 hits according to the site
Pretty much the only fatal brick now is a damaged radio/CID flash. If there was a way for Olipro/Pof/Us to flash a hardspl type package in place of the radio bootloader then it would be solid.
What type of mortar should we use?

Yup.. Must admit I think that's the one thing that will not happen anytime soon as the interactions between bootloader, radio bootloader and the radio PLA/PIC is a tad complex... It'll be a very difficult thing to test and even finding a suitable vunerability is difficult - certainly beyond my abilities presently. Though the same was said 12 months ago about the No-Wifi issue and Olipro led some excellent progress in that area...
Mind you - the key to fixing CID/radio bricks is to educate the masses not to make them in the first place and not to just blindly execute whatever they stumble across - more of a challenge than rewriting the bootloader by hand on paper tape and almost as frustrating
Oh... as for Mortar... we could have a mass scrape of all that weird dirt stuff that "grows" under the "invisible-until-you-open-it" edges of the screens and around the battery cover and add a drop of water
Wonder if it's the electronic equivelent of belly button fluff?
does that mean its dead?
Thanks for all the entertaining posts guys. Just to clarify things, Im running XP SP2, and the phone did actually work for about 3 months until suddenly one day it gradually started dropping signal, until the signal vanished completely.
Are you guys trying to tell me that my phone is completely dead then? Could I have prevented this by knowing what the hell I was doing or was it a fault of the phone?
With regards to the mortar issue I think a combination of tears and sh*t would do. I think I would build a big wall around the jackasses who release products that arent completely stable but still charge us an arm and a leg for them. (excuse my grumpiness)
Oh and just wanted to say that since my vario has been out of action, I have been relying on the trustiest brick Ive ever owned, my XDA IIs. This thing has been dropped so many times and is held together with super glue, but it does the job and gets on with things, just not very quickly.
Thanks again for all the help.

By the sounds of it you might have a permenant brick but unless i had your device here and actually went through everything myself i cant be sure. take a read through the sticky thread above this one about unbricking......it will take some time to read through but you will see what techniques are used to try and revive the device.
when cid corruped with spl 2.03 and not have gsm no solution can not flash with sd card when you see that level=fff only when level=0 in mtty console can use sd card for flashing rom.
THIS TIME ONLY SOLUTION TO UNBRICK HERMES WITH SPL 2.03 NO CID AND IMEI -
SENT Imei-check to fix this ??
?
uuuummm....
Thanks mbsshop1302gsm for the response, but did I mention that I have limited knowledge on this stuff? So the more basic the instructions are, the better.
Thanks,
April
