[Q] few questions, differents subjects

Hi there,
I have the tab 10.1 4G+ wi-fi (GT P7500R)
data plan 500mb/months
I use the stock firmware, rom etc...
I downloaded the titanium backup app from the market but it seems that it doesnt work.
What would be the best backup program to dl for the stock tab? (free or not)
How does it work, what and where does it save ? only apps, or all my files (pictures, favorites, widgets etc)
I also read quite a few times, put this on ur sd card, save that to your sd card.
Well i don have any sd card for my tab, i use my pc and my external hd for my storage.
So if one day i decide to try a new firmware or rom or whatever the way it work, can i do it without a sd card ?
About the changes of firmware and roms, i read a bit about it but im not quite sure i understand everything, plus i saw so many thread about peoples that have problems after doing it that i a bit affraid.
I saw one popular firmware that seems to be working great : in paris v4
does it fit with my tab ? or wich one do work ?
Will i still be able to use the default web browser and widgets ?
I'll wait for your anwsers for theses questions before asking some more (depending of the anwsers i'll get)
Thank you
You need to be rooted for titanium to work.
Your 16gb capacity is your SD card on the tab.
Install cwm (see thread here or use overcome thread/guide) and you will gain root and the cwm menu to flash custom roms. The nandroid recovery menu will let you install a zip but cwm will give added options and root.

ok, so it mean that when u make any changes to firmware and rom, u dl the stuff on the tab ? then when they talk about flash ? i though that flashing meant "erase" the data..... I think im confuse......

I might look stupid but this is like chinese for me.
I've searched "overcome cwm" and this is what i got link
but i still dont really know what i'll be able to do or not do with this.
please see also this LINK in order to know a bit more on me
Thanks for your help
I hope ill get more awnsers about the other questions
1. Never had the chance to play around with my tab before I rooted and flashed it.
2.flashing pretty much means installing something, weather its a custom rom, kernel or theme. You have to be in recovery mode to do any of this.
3.the link you posted is to a custom rom w/ a built in kernel.
I read your link and from what I gather you should get a little more familiar with your device and read the hell outta these forms. for what you intend to use this device for and you being an android noob I think its better you stay stock for the time being. There are are alot of ways you could ruin your device. So my advise is read read read.

Thank you for this anwser,
Im actually a noob with the android world but not a noob in the pc world.
I successfully overclocked my pc 6 months ago and my system is stable (didnt crash once) and i did that without knowledge, just by reading.
I can pretty much do anything if i understand what am doing and what are the exits/recover possibles in case of a problem.
The thing is that am french canadian so i do understand english but sometimes when it goes a bit too far in the abbreviations or in the technical, i get lost.
One more thing, there is so so many subjects, wich one is the best for my tab ?
by reading again and again THE subject that i should, i might finally understand.
Am not in a hurry, for now, i find my tab smooth and easy of use but i never say no to even more smoothness or else.
Im still wondering about wich backup app to use for the default tab and like i ask in my first message, what and where does the backup app save

Check out MyBackupPro. It works for non-rooted Tabs and saves the backup either online or on the sd card.

Well here's what you need to do, in my opinion :
1. DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING that comes from Samsung. If you have an unlocked bootloader, you want to keep it that way.
2. Read up on the rooting/custom recovery thread so you can understand how to get nvflash up and running. This will help immensely as you start flashing custom roms and things go wrong. Backups using the CWM recovery are the quick way out of trouble when you flash a ROM and it screws up.
3. Get fastboot going, as this is probably the best tool for getting out of any trouble you get in to. These devices are incredibly hard to brick once you have the right tool set at your disposal.

thanks, following the info i got in a previous post, when it says backup on sd card and that i use a tab that doesnt have an external sdcard, does it mean it will save it on the tab ? Then if i get a problem with the tab, ill losse everything ?
If so, then i guess saving online is the best way to do it right ?
Im trying the free version right now, online its ridiculous, only 2mb of space
I've looked on their site, i cant find how much space we get with the paid version, do you know the anwser?
One question about the titaniumbackup. it says that it work with rooted tab.
Can i root my tab and stay default to use this backup program ?
I really appreciate the help you guys are providing
(and sorry once again for my poor writting skills)
well i got the anwser about the storage space online for thoses who might want to know
with the 4.99$ payment of the Mybackup pro app, its 100mb online
for 1$/month or 10$/year : 250mb
for 2$/month or 20$/year : 1gb
yesterday i backup my apps, music and pictures on my tab for 235mb total and i only owed the tab for 3 weeks now.
to me this is ridiculous, i better backup everything on my external HD with the usb cable, it might take longer and ill have to do it manually but i rather do that than pay 20$ per year.
anyone has a better solution ?

Backing up stock GB 2.3.6

Going to try rooting my P1000L Galaxy Tab, I want to back it up first, what is the best way to do this? Being completely new at this, I want to have my Tab fully backed up so I can restore in case something goes wrong.

IF you have CWM then make a full nandroid backup else , install TitaniumBAckup from market and backup all.
Do note that Titanium backup does not backs ur system files
Thank you for your response, it gave me a direction for reading into.
I dont have CWM installed and to be honest I did not even know what it was, I did a search a read a bit on it and it sounds very good, I assume I must have a rooted ROM to install it right? So I think I will try purchasing Titanium BackUp, I see there is a free version, I wonder if I should get the paid version, got to read on that.
While researching CWM I read that all Android devices ship with a recovery console, albeit with limited functions, this is good to know, if worst comes to worst and me as a newb to this make a mistake I could recover with the stock recovery console right?
Thanks again for your help, I do hate being a newb, I do learn fast and I am fairly good with all electronics,PCs, laptops etc, I will learn Android dammit lol

As it turns out I cannot use either one, CWM or Titanium BackUp, they both require root Looks like I am back to where I started, I need to root GB 2.3.6 which to a newb is a bit of a pain...

[Q] How to make proper Backup?

Hi guys,
i'm still very new to this whole Android world and learning each day so please help me understand this problem i'm having. My phone is i9305 (EU model) just for reference.
First off i would like to know if this is possible to do without rooting or hacking since i like to be able to do OTA update and not mess to much with the phone if possible. If this is not possible then i could root. I actually tested rooting using the CF-Auto-root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957273
So What i like to know is how can i backup and restore my phone is the same shape as it is today. I know that i cant back-up my private data without rooting and for now lets say i dont care about that part. What i like is to be able to backup all
- the applications
- my folders and how i can organized everything
- my desktop and how i have organized everything
- everything else like my background and other system settings.
I tried one to do a system restore+clear cache and my phone was reseted as my day one. When i connected to my google account it started downloading all my applications but sadly everything was just dumped in the application window without my previous structure so google dont save any settings. I did get my background and contact/calendar info back which was good.
So does anyone know how one can make a type of backup/restore i'm after?
I tested titanium backup and my Backup (when i had rooted) but didnt see an option for the mentioned features.
ps. Since i used iPhone i'm a bit spoiled, itunes does a great job doing a proper backup with the whole application/user data when making backup and the restore does restore everything like all your settings, background, folders where you organized the applications so i'm looking for something similar in Android. I had expected Kies to do this but it only saves basic stuff which seems to be the same as Google saves in the cloud (like contacts and such)
Grateful for any tips in this regard.
search, all the info is out there for you to read.
you'll need a custom recovery

It seems the CWM is the way to go. Seems like a very powerful tools. One thing i still dont know is if it back up the whole OS or just the application/data ?
For instance if i do a backup when i'm on build AB and then install AC and clean my system and do a restore what do i end up with?
AC + all my applications and settings?
or
AB + all my applications and settings?
just search for the definition of nandroid backup, don't expect spoonfeeding

If you know the answer why not just say it? This type if attitude isn't really helping me (or others as i seen you do the same on other threads). I will search more on it still but please remember why we are in this section and forum in the first place. If i knew what to look for i wouldnt ask. I have searched on the topic it but with thousands of threads its pretty much impossible to get a clear understanding of things and as mentioned i'm not that familiar with Android world.
it might be hard to imagine for you but not everyone are familiar with the rooting and hacking world and all the abbreviations and much of what is discussed is hard to follow for beginners like me.
Atleast if you want to be helpful provide a link or something

Install a custom recovery like clock work mod to do a full back up (nandroid backup). Download Rom manager to install the recovery (must be rooted)
Back up EFS what you can find an app to do.
Use Titanium backup to back up Apps and data.
If you want to root http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488
Ashley covered it all. Breakdown:
To back up your ROM you need a custom recovery installed. Boot into it and select backup. This backs up absolutely everything at that moment in time.
-Your ROM settings, apps including data and settings, messages received.
However you can't transfer your app data between ROMs because it's part of an entire image. So you use Titanium to back up (for apps+app data) which can be used all over the place.
You'll want this if you ever switch back to an old ROM as when you restore that ROM you can restore your Titanium to update the app data associated to that ROM.
You can back up your launcher layout if it's third party as it's an app. Touch wiz launcher I don't think so.
Exynos SIII; CM10.1
Don't use rom manager for CWM.. I've seen it brick more phones than anything.
well, I told you want to search for. check the first rule of xda
the easiest i would say would Titanium backup pro. phone needs to be rooted. you sync to dropbox and other clouds.
i always have two back ups one is Titanium and the other is twrp
@Ashley1987, 23Six, xSpeced,Farooq_Chicago
Thank you for your valuable input. I think the conclusion is that titanium backup pro is the best way to go since i want to be able to use different ROMs. And nandroid backup if i want to restore on the same ROM. I actually have bought titanium backup pro so i will "play" with that once i root my phone again (not a big fan of rooting and stuff since i can use OTA update but it seems like the only option).
do you know if i actually get back everything as i have today (including folder structure on desktop and application menu) ?
I spend lots of time on doing this so its good to know before i try to wipe my phone and try
@Glebun, i think someone else need to read the rules as well! if i had to guess i would say you just post to get a high number of post under your name. You dont contribute to the discussion and are somewhat hostile in your posts. This attitude isnt helpful and is not appreciated by anyone. So if you cant help i suggest you simply dont post. And i repeat what i said earlier that i had investigated but when you are new sometimes you need someone to push you in the right direction and advice you which is the point of this forum and section. As you see there are many people who helped me and i appreciate that. You on the other hand just complain and wasted yours and my time on nothing useful. Please think twice before posting next time.

[Q] VZW S4 rooted,Rom'd...how do I load another Rom?

Hi All,
New to forum. With the help of this forum, last night I rooted - and CleanROM'd my new S4. Question....If I want to keep switching ROM's to find the best one to my liking, how do I do that each time - so that I don't have to go and re setup all my apps, login's and etc? Took me a long time to get it the way I wanted. Would be a shame to have to sit there and re do it all. Sorry for the noob questions!!
You want something like Titanium Backup:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
Thanks. I have titanium backup. Would I just have it backup everything I have?
Then boot my phone into download mode, load the new from from the zip file? Do I need to clean any files out or do anything specific? Any ROM's you suggest I should look at that are fast and stable?
Thanks :good:

[Q] Migration from 4.3 to 4.4.2

Hello!
For a long time I was not ready to migrate to 4.4.2 rom.
I know for sure my question not the first about this topic. So, please, forgive me and help me to find a link or help where I can migrate to KitiKat step-by-step? Also, I need it to do it with the Root and TWRP backup?
I'm really sorry, again and would be really appreciated for your help.
God bless you!
Also, what app is better to use for backup and restore to 4.4.2? Please, help me?
Thank you very much!
First of all it's nice to see you advancing into the new firmware. I was on the same boat as you are now and wasn't ready to move on. Hopefully I can help you in a way where it should be stress free. I do want to make you aware that once you go to 4.4.2 you can not go back to 4.3.
Before you begin make sure you have everything you want saved( music, photos, contacts, Etc) and save them to your sd card. *MY TIPS* It says to do a complete phone wipe, format blah blah blah. Just do a normal wipe as if you were flashing another rom. Once you wipe just go back to the main menu on twrp or cwm. Restart and restart to recovery. Make sure you do this once everything is downloaded and you are ready to go. The link provided is very easy to follow and you should have no issues. Have fun and hope this helps you out a bit. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
Go to this link and download the files you will need and follow his instructions.
