After I uninstall AS4 and reinstall AS3.8, it won't work.. Synchronization won't start, Wcesmgr.exe (Activesync) won't start although wcescomm.exe had when I conect my Xda.. When I try to access the 'Mobile Device' under 'My Computer' it gives me error "Critical communications have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device, and then connect again" regardless if my Xda II is connected or disconnected..
Anyway, I revert back to AS3.8 bcos AS4 doesn't has backup/restore option which I use a lot..
Anyone has such problem? Is there a way to fix this problem? Oh, btw the AS4 I installed is build 3434..
To successfully uninstall ActiveSync 4.0 and reinstall a previous version of ActiveSync on your desktop PC, perform the following procedure.
1. Uninstall ActiveSync 4.0.
2. Open File Explorer, navigate to the System32 directory in your Windows directory, and then manually delete the dynamic-link library Rapi.dll.
3. Reinstall the previous version of ActiveSync.

Ooops! Hold on a sec! Maybe 90%.. Now that AS3.8 is getting back to work, it doesn't automatically ask to create a new partnership as b4.. This is really annoying, now my contacts empty, and I don't want to refill the contacts one by one cos I got hundreds of them..
Any suggestions?
Yeah...couldn't get the AS 3.8 to automatically create a new partnership after the revert.
Well, I've to be a "Guest" until someone comes out with an idea to initiate the partnership screen to load up.
Hope some good samaritan will help out.
Btw...I running W2K Sp4 on my desktop. I know it will not work with AS4...I just didn't read the fine prints before installation. Now I can connect but have to remain as guest only (after the revert).
Now it couldn't even do backup/restore..

I have this problem that when I place the XDA on the Cradle, it won't communicate with my PC, there's no bubble showing up which says "connecting to host"
Is there a way to repair this problem ? Maybe a little registry tweaks?
try to delete and re-create the partnership ... if doesn't work try uninstall then reinstall ActiveSync and make sure it's 3.7.1
I installed 2005, and couldn't sych at all by AS4, everytime it tried to connect, i said looking for changes and then a protection fault, so I downgraded to wm2003se and active sych couldnt connect, I reinstalled AS 3.7 and then 3.8, but it can not run at all it just starts connecting, then stops and I can not show Activesynch window, it can not even explore the device
does anybody have a solution for this, or do I have to format and reinstall windows
yo medman
personally i think it was a bad mistake to upgrade to W2005. cause its still in the development phase and u wont find a lot of help from us users cause most of us are still waiting for a stable version to come out
looking at u'r situation
hard reset u'r PPC, do not connect u'r USB.....now install 3.8 MSYNC....... restrt u'r computer.....n then once rebooted......connect the USB cradle with u'r comp and put in u'r PPC...
it shld work now..
best of luck
sync problem...solved!
hey medman,
i don't see why every one is dissing wm2005, its a great rom!
but for the people who are having problems with connecting their device with wm2005 to ActiveSync 4.0 i figured out what is wrong:
if you connected your device to your computer before you installed the new
ActiveSync, it set your device with no driver, and even if you have the
ActiveSync driver now you computer allready recognised your device, so:
the solution is to delete the device setting under device manager of your
computer [start->control panel->system->hardware->device manager]
now with device manager open and with you ppc not connected:
go to the view tab and check "show hidden devices"
then look for the driver of the ppc most likely under the "Non-Plug and Play
Drivers" but if it is not there look around for the driver
when you find it, you went to delete it by right-clicking on the driver and
clicking uninstall
after you delete the old driver have ActiveSync running and place your ppc in the cradle, and the new driver should be installed by ActiveSync 4.0
if you need activesync 4.0 just tell me and i can give you my sight that i uploded as4.0 and wm2005 in a rar file, by the way...most answers are being found on this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=18584&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
re:
To rooschool: I did what u suggested but same...
To Destroyer7337:
I didn't connect the ppc before the active sych, I raid this topic before I tried wm2005, I took all the precautions u mentioned, but to no avail, any way I downgraded to 2003se bu I cannot synch with all versions of activesynch
Driver?
What is the name of the driver? I can't find anything in non plug and play and I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

Hello
so I spent over 3 about 5hour evenings at computer with searching, reading, reinstalling and I dont know what else while trying to eliminate this 85010014 error. God bless my beatifull girlfriend sitting by me and cooking cofee, without her I would jump of my skin.
On wiki pages you can read that 85XXXX... error are comming mostly from bad version or corrupted mapi32.dll. Well I found about 3 different mapi32.dlls /windows/system32/; /program files/common files/..... etc.) in my computer with different file size but same version descriptor !!! I asked even my friends with different OS versions (W2000, WXP) and different Office version (2000,XP,2003). Everybody had the /windows/system32/mapi32.dll in version 1.0.2536.0 but everybody with different size. Note, that no one is using or ever was using alternative email client.
Finally I found out that deleting the one in /windows/system32/ directory does no harm to Outlook 2003 - interesting isnt it ? But without mapi32.dll in /windows/system32/ directory will the activesync 4 installation (build 4343) not work.
So I came back to original (maybe from OS installation comming) mapi32.dll with size 112128 bytes. But this is not the problem. Active sync 4 still produced same error.
Reflashing PPC does no progress, the problem is really on the desktop as the application says. ScanPST for outlook.pst file will not help too. "detect and repair" function of Outlook 2003 - same, no help. Even choosing to "reinstall in the same manner" from office installation CD will not help, even it takes nearly 30 minuts of hard disk tyrania. Note, that I always had the "full" install of MS Office. Of course I always first uninstall active sync, then reinstall office, then install active sync again.
BUT - as I found - "reinstalling MS OFffice" is not the same as unistalling and installing again ! this really helped to solve the problem.
So here is step by step what I did.
1. backup Outlook.pst file (if default - /documents and setting/<user>/local settings/application data/microsoft/outlook.pst)
2. complete uninstall of ActiveSync, even deleting the directory (/program files/microsoft active sync)
3. complete uninstall of MS Office 2003
4. delete profiles (control panel/inbox)
5. full install Office 2003
6. full install Active Sync 4
7. run outlook, create profile, set up email account
8. run activesync without PPC in cradle
9. delete all devices from activesync
10. run activesync on PPC
11. delete all devices on PPC activesync
12. put PPC in cradle
13. establish connection
14. synchronise
15. it works !!!
NOTE:
dont run activesync before opening MS Outlook. In my case it always corrupts Outlook profile with doubling the Outlook folders and because of that corrupting the syndronisation procedure.
good luck to you !
T.H.
While this method may work, I think you will find my method for fixing this to be A LOT easier.
It's two steps, and it requires NO un-installing/re-installing.

siGGy method
Sorry,
but "detect and repair" did not work. I even do not and never had another email client. Maybe you just did not read all of my post.
thanks for your answer
T.
I read all of it, maybe read my post a bit more throughly. See where it says, "Even if you don't it's possible the outlook install got corrupted from another application"
So maybe you didn't read all of my post too
I've fixed 7 machines using this method. Most of them (6) didn't have any other e-mail clients installed.
I did something similar to that insanity 15 step method the 1st time it happened to me 2 week ago. Then I found the "detect and repair" fixed it.
I wonder what was different on your machine.
lol, Windows admins. uninstall/re-install. I'm glad I don't work on this O/S for a living.
I hope yours stays fixed permanently, I wouldn't want you to repeat all those steps again! What a PIA.
I'm sure more people will end up finding these posts, hopefully people get their systems fixed.
I solved my ActiveSync problem with Error 85010014.
I also run Eudora and Incredimail Plugin for Outlook on both PCs, Work and Home. Both are on XP Pro SP2 and when I installed ActiveSync 4.1 on my work PC without issue, I decided to attack my Home PC Outlook installation to see if I could resolve the issue.
So, At home:
Putting Outlook in Offline mode did not solve the problem.
I uninstalled ActiveSync 4.0 and installed ActiveSync 4.1 - No difference.
I backed up Outlook via 3rd party program to grab account settings as well as my 2GB pst file then ran Help->Detect and Repair... - reboot, no difference.
I then ran Control Panel -> Add or remove Programs -> Office 2003 and chose to modify my installation by adding or removing components. I unchecked Outlook and updated it to remove Outlook from my Office 2003 suite. Then returned to this option and re-checked Outlook to add it back to my Office 2003 Suite, CD-Rom in hand but updating, it did not ask for the Office 2003 Install CD-Rom... - Rebooted and connected - Bingo NO 85010014 error!
Support code 85010014 when syncing
Success! Re-install outlook is the only option... for me anyway.
I tried repairing outlook, no difference. Tried new partnerships etc, hard reset my XDA Exec and resync, no difference. Renamed all the mapi32 files I could find and repaired outlook, no difference. Ran the scanpst util, even fixed a problem, still wouldn't sync. Created a completely new pst file and put just 1 email in it (yes it was set to be the default mail delivery folder etc), it wouldn't even sync that 1 item.
So, as per foxnolds post, uncheck outlook in the add/remove programs bit, then re-check it and reinstall outlook, success! Didn't even have to uninstall activesync 4.0 and didn't lose any of my email profiles/settings as it picked them up again after the re-install.
What a palarver.
I am running XP sp2, Office 2003 small business edition, active sync 4.0 and windows mobile 5.0 on an XDA Exec.
Prior to upgrading my Advantage X7500 to WM6 it synchronized with both WinXP and Vista w/o a problem. Since I upgraded to WM6 I've had virtually no success getting my X7500 to sync with either OS. Must be a setting I've got messed up or something. I'd welcome suggestions to resolve this.
Try to go on setting connection usbtopc and disable advanced network functionality and ok
Thanks -- I tried that but it had no effect. Even did a hard reset and was able to get it to sync to Win XP (very slowly) but when I restored my backup I'm stuck again with it sitting w/o syncing, or giving a synchronization error. Problem is there's no help when this happens -- just the troubleshooter but that doesn't find anything wrong.

stupid question perhaps but are you using the latest Activsync?
Wm6 doesn't work with A/S on older versions, though if you could sync very slowly this is unlikely to be the problem.
It could be that one of the programs you are attempting to re-install is incompatible with WM6, or that the backup file (if you are using software other than A/S to reinstall your data) is corrupted in some way, though I'm not techy enough to know the ins and outs of this
If you have all your data backed up somewhere and haven't tried this already then uninstall Activsync from your pc and then delete the activsync folder from your program list:this folder contains the windows mobile drivers and would otherwise remained regardless of A/S being uninstalled. It worked for me when I couldn't get my Hermes to sync - though I've had no problems with the Athena (touch wood!)
Also have you tried on a different PC?

Thanks for your detailed suggestions:
I've narrowed the issue down to syncing the calendar -- sometimes tasks and contacts sync -- the rest seem OK. I've searched MS forums and KB for the Support Code 86000107 that continually pops up when I try to sync in AS 4.5 -- to no avail.
Yes, I'm using Activesync 4.5 in WinXP and the WMDC (latest) in Vista -- I have the same problem in both. And I have tried AS 4.5 in another computer running XP -- same issue. What is bothersome is that I did not have this problem when I had the shipped WM5 version that came on the Athena, only since I upgraded the rom to WM6.
I ended up trying to hard reset and see if that would eliminate the problem -- it did improve the syncing (before I couldn't get it to sync anything, just sat there searching) but now I have this problem with the calendar (skips right over the contacts, calendar and tasks -- then syncs the other items).
I did a scanpst to find and repair any errors in my outlook file (there were some). I removed AS, deleted the AS folder as you suggested, reinstalled -- no change.
At this point I'm baffled -- obviously the phone is only marginally useful so I'm going to switch back to my Hermes for the moment. I just don't know where to look for possible solutions -- maybe when the "official" WM6 rom for the Athena is released on Wednesday, that will be different??? But, since my problem seems to be unique to me, I doubt it.
Thanks again -- I appreciate you help. Any more suggestions are certainly welcome.
It sounds as though maybe your outlook pst file is hosed. You might try...
Export your entire outlook data file to another pst file. Don't just move the pst file. make sure you export it (export file pick pst)
Delete everthing in your outlook data file on your pc and pda.
Sync your pda with an empty outlook file. If that works Then import your pst file from above to your pc and try to resync your PDA
sometimes this works when the pst file on the pc is somewhat corrupt...
Good Luck.
IS your tytn syncing ok with the same setup? Tytn wm6 or wm5?

That seemed to solve the problem -- apparently, all my pst files were corrupted, perhaps from having synchronized them among the various drives I have them stored on. Fixed one with scanpst, then followed your recommended steps and I now seem to have a new pst file that does synchronize with my Athena.
Thanks for your help. I "hope" my problem is solved!!
BTW -- found that my Hermes would not sync either -- that confirmed the suspicion of the desktop pst file being corrupted.

I have a x7500 bought off ebay but cannot activesync
I have a x7500 I bought off ebay but cannot activesync I have tried both usb and bluetooth but no luck. with USB the computer does not even see the device only charges it. with bluetooh I can ftp files and send notes, and contact info, but when I tried to bluetooth activesync the x7500 does not see the partnership, also when I go the bluetooth configurations on the computer to quick connect on bluetooth serial ports and select the x7500 it says the device does not support it.
I have tried changing the usb-pc off and on and no difference. I have even installed the usbsettings.exe and nothing also. I also have hard reset the device nothing is working. Any Ideas.
computers are xp (all threee of them) and the device is WM6
ROM AP TOUCH 3.0

Scanpst is completely hidden in Office 2007 and very hard to locate in Vista. Once I did find it and ran it, it appears to have cleaned up a lot of problems. It does no good for WMDC to tell you it has found an error as there is not even a hint as to where the problem lies. It just goes ahead and replaces all the files on your device with the ones on the computer (or vice-versa depending on your settings). I'm hoping this fix of about 134 problems in my pst file will keep things going for a while.
Brad
I am having the same problem with my work computer (XP). Everything syncs fine on my home computer (Vista). I upgraded my rom to DCD 2.2.1 ROM, and I keep getting the 86000107 error.
At work, we are using Outlook 2003/Exchange. I've created new profiles, uninstalled/reinstalled AS 4.5 countless times. I closed out the exisitng PST file..
I am stumped.
I'm trying it on a new computer tomorrow to identify where the problem lies. Anyone have any thoughts?
Similar problem solved
I had the same problem and went through many steps like those posted in this forum. I'm going to show my steps to solve this problem without hard reset your phone.
1) When the phone is connected, at the phone ActiveSync setting delete the PC profile.
2) Unplug the phone from the PC.
3) Uninstall and then reinstall the ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Center.
4) At phone system setting -> About -> make sure there is a name ID. Without this the PC cannot identify the phone and thus cannot sync.
5) Set the USBtoPC with 'advance network..." enabled.
6) To the extreme, before step 3, go to PC windows\inf and remove infcache.1 (need to add in an administrators account and set the privilage to full control). That may remove old corrupted drivers.
My current programinformation
operativsystemversion: 5.2.21869.
Manilaversion: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM version: 1.66.413.2 (76641) SVE
IS the above old versions or new?
I have dowloaded some apps and other things for my HTC HD2.
Htc Flashlight, artemis, htc hd2 tweaks and apps, and more.
How do I install these apps and tweaks?
Where do I put them on the phone, in which folder?
How do I install them?
Do I have to update ROM or something else?
I have activesync on both my phone and pc.
I have no idea how to do, and the Q&A doesnt help. I know pretty much about windows pc use, but im a totally newb when it comes to mobilephones, I dont even know what manila, or ROM is :O
If they are cab files (ie *.cab), just save them to the device in any folder and "click" on them to install. (c0-y the files via USB or via microSD card)
You will be prompt to install either on device or microSD.
Cheers.

Well you go on the website I give up earlier, or do a research on Google fore Net Framework. you download it to your computer, and you connect your device with USB to your PC. you will see the window of ActiveSync on your screen (your pc trays to connect to your mobile device)
run the Net Framework application (.exe) from your PC. follow the steps, that's it.

Did you manage to get the NETCF3.5.CAB on your phone? I've done some digging, and you CAN install it on your phone. Connect the phone via usb and select the disk drive option from the phone screen and press done. Then go to my computer and click on the removable drive icon. Double click on program files icon and copy the NETCF3.5.CAB into this folder. Disconnect the phone from the computer, and press the windows icon on your phone. Scroll to file explorer icon and press it. Go to the top of the page and select the storage card. Press program files and find the net cab. Press it and follow the instillation process and it should install.

Activesync is for XP only, mobile devie center is the "ActiveSync" for Vista and Windows 7.
Functionality is equal (although perhaps when UAC active, one needs admin rights for full functionality - just guiessing about that though-)
You cannot run from activesync/mobile device center.
steps to follow:
1) Connect your phone to your computer
2) make sure you have partnership (even guest partnership is ok) betwwen phone and PC
