Upgrading XDAII rom in Australia - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I have an XDAII, Model PH10B, Rom Ver 1.66.00WWE, Date 02/20/04, Radio 1.08.00. I have looked for ROM updates on the OS site, the message it seems is that overseas upgrade exist, but none for Australia. Can someone please advise.

you dont need a special aussi rom
you can use any rom

ROM Upgrade For Aust
Yep I'm looking too . Have been doing research for the last 2 hours and it seems the one we need is 1.72.187. I can't find it yet but will keep looking. Some Guys have done changes to 1.72.181 but the 187 seems top be the best one to load without problems. If we can find one that's been modified to remove the UK O2 symbol from the start bar and some of the UK Active stuff then we'll be set. Let me know if you find it before me.

New Zealand Settings
My i-mate is using the following, since it is the same model, all that might differ is the service provider settings.
Rom : 1.72.00WWE
Rom date : 03/15/04
Radio : 1.14.00
ExtRom : 1.72.861
Flash chip type : 28F128K3
Model No. : PH10B
These settings are factory, I have not yet flashed the device.

1.72.900 T-Mobile NL Extended Rom by eDsuBsofT

Finally I found time to publish my own cooked Extended Rom.
It is to be used together with the 1.72.601 QTek OS and Radio Roms
(do a search to find that upgrade).
Carefully read the Description.txt file on upgrade instructions.
I used the ExtRomUnlocker software because that keeps you from the flash-process which has a higher risk to mess up the device. Therefore I put together a RAR archive and not a NBF rom-image file.
I used this Extended Rom now for over 4 weeks without any trouble (for whats its worth to you . . .)
There is still one issue i am having with BT GPS and TomTom3: When TomTom cannot connect to the GPS (GPS off, BT off, GPS out of reach), it almost freezes the device. I work around this by simply not to try using TomTom without GPS connected.
Any clues on solving that are greatly appreciated.
Please post any remarks.

Is there a way to put that new iPaq PPCE for T-Mobile USA ROM/OS on my xdaII? -or is that a bad idea? -is it possible to get that ROM anywhere?
its a bad idea. This rom would make your XDA2 a piece of metal.
...ok, so if I'm on TMO USA will this 1.72 upgrade work fine for me? I've heard it's generally a bad idea to upgrade unless you're really unhappy...I'm on 1.60.00wwe & radio 1.10.00 -so how will I do better? I'm tempted just to wait til the SE is out...
The 1.72 OS & Radio rom will work fine for you.
See the other threads for the benefits, but they really come down to:
- improved BT
- improved battery life
My ExtRom can be of use too, but you will need to setup the T-Mobile USA specific settings (like GPRS, Voicemail, SMSC and maybe some more)
I have an MDA II, with the UK 1.72 Beta on it. Can I upgrade with this ROM, without any special configuration of the country id, or anything else. Or will this require some special changes to the .nbf, use of extended rom viewer, etc, etc.
I'm ok with upgrading a ROM, but I do not want to mess around with the device beyond that. Too many horro stories out there.
I have "SALAD ROM"
After modifying this ext. rom (except 'T-Mobile' setting), i have "Salad Rom' like this :

Re: I have "SALAD ROM"
If I decide to use this ROM when the Official T-mobile comes out am I going to have country ID error problem again like when you have upgraded from... I-mate to T-mobile ROM or vise-versa? Or it is just straight forward upgrade?
Thanks!

From the replies I think is about time to clear some things.
1. My archive is just the CONTENTS of a ExtRom that I put together. Benefits: All new versions & works together perfectly with 1.72qtek & contains customisations for T-Mobile Nl that I want.
2. Because its NOT an NBF, you DON'T have any country code issues on the ExtRom
3. For your device to work, you will at least need a 1.72 NON-Beta OS & Radio rom. I use the Qtek ones, but planning to upgrade radio to 1.17. Withe the OS & Radio you may entouter country code issues, but they can be solved via the instructions on this site. You will have country code issues when your device currently is not running a rom from the same distributor. ie: if your running an official T-Mobile rom you will encounter country code issues when using the 1.72 Qtek or iMate roms
Hope this helps . . .
Thanks for clarification...

Sorry for the extra question but that didn't clear things up for me...
Leaving the C-code error aside which seems solvable, are saying with my current rom & radio (posted above) I can just download your 1.72 and will have no issues?
CDTV, you first have to get the 1.72 rom upgrade (for use of os & radio) from Qtek or iMate.
AFTER you upgrade to that os & radio, THEN you can use my ExtRom.
OK, but Ihave an xdaII from o2 bought from expansus & unlocked using w/TMO...am I out of luck to get the update? is it really worth it? (batt life & BT a lot better performance?)
From where I can download this 1.72.900 version upgrade?
From where I can download this 1.72.900 version upgrade?
@heshamsch:
errrrrrrr in the first post of this thread?
remember its only the contents of the ExtRom, You need a 1.72 os & radio to get it to work properly
@CDTV:
I cant judge if you wil benefit noticably
I benefitted (especially BT, to be used without any extra tools now!)
Remember the ExtRom contains (more or less) Éxtra's and NL specific customisations
edsub a lil help man
i got the official 1.72 WWE rom installed and considered installing this extended rom,but i do not know where to put the files in order to install or the process....is there some program i use to install a walk through would be greatly appreciated, also is the radio better than 1.14.00?
Ext Rom Tmobile
Hi, your Ext rom suits fine, but.....I use KPN as my prvider and would rather not see the T mobile screen when its starting up. Is this easy to fix within the ext Rom and if so how can i change this.
Thx
Ferry
this should be do-able.
You need to change the images that reside in one of the cab's.
Use ce cabmanager to open those. You can try this s/w a number of times before you have to buy.
You cant just put any bitmap in.
Search this forum on 'splash image' how to create your own (KPN i suppose) image: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=3759&highlight=splash+image

Rom Upgrades

Hi. I'm very new to the XDA II, just received mine this morning, previously had an SPV E200. I've just tried to register on myxda.com so that I could download the rom updates but it keeps saying I am enetering an invalid IMEI number and therefore I can't register to gain access to the site. Is there any other way of getting the ROM updates and also which is the best Rom to update too. I am wanting to unlock the phone to all netwroks and use with a bluetooth headset and bluetooth gps receiver.
Thanks In Adavnce
P.S. Im in the UK and on the O2 network
The official O2 Rom update can be found at the developers Source O2 site:
http://www.sourceo2.com/O2_Developers/Devices/O2_Xda_II/XdaIIRom.htm
The current version is 1.60.50
I would guess that this is the version you probably have already installed.
There are a number of unofficial ROM updates which could be installed on your XDAII, these can be found searching this forum. The latest ROM version which you could install is the i-Mate 1.72.00.
Before attempting to install any new version I would suggest that you read the following post by dcs which hopefully would help you avoid the common pitfalls of upgrading:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=84189#84189
you may want to check it out as it has most (if not all) the se rom upgrade versions. i also read somewhere in here that club-imate has an official se rom for imate users...but don't quote me on that
good luck and hope you find the right rom upgrade.
i was in ghana last may; went over to bolga. loved it!
cheers then
No SA edition
Remix-
There's actually no SA edition out there - neither vodacom and MTN have the full featured "dedication" that O2 and T-mobile have in other regions so the i-mate you have is the "unbranded" edition with a stock Global ROM. Don't have time to find the link myself but what you want to investigate on these boards is changing the country code of the update files. Search fo Country code error?! or something similar. Double check your country id with the utility under the same posts. Hope this helps

iMate JasJam on Three (Aus)

Hey all,
I have just purchased an iMate JasJam from Telstra (was a cheap display model) and i have signed up to three mobile. I want to access planet three and do everything as if i had brought the phone on three.
Can i just install the Dopod 838 Pro ROM?
Can someone post a link to a Dopod ROM? as im not allowed into the dopod website due to me not actually owning a dopod!
Any help greatly appreciated!

Geordie

To use planet 3 all you have to do is type three.net.au in ie.
before you can do that you will need the settings for 3services, 3mms and or 3netaccess configured. There is a tool that does it on wm6. link is below, you can try it for your WM5 rom. The dopod rom will only serve you to remove any telstra programs. If the cab program below doesnt work there is a thread which has the settings for you to enter manually.
*edit* the cab file has been removed from the thread (first one below) you will have to check back again to get it.

Dopod ROM for 3 Aus
Dopod have released a ROM update specifically for 3 in AU on 2007/03/28.
The version number is: v1.30.707.8 and it states as follows:
838Pro (WM5) ROM code for Hutchison ‘3’ network - version 1.30.707.8 This ROM code will allow you to fully utilize the Planet 3 services.
As i'm not on 3 (using Black 2.0 WM6 using Vodafone AU here) i havent actually downloaded it for myself and from the look of it, its not even mentioned on the Wiki so i cant tell you exactly whats different from the generic AU ROM v1.30.707.4 released on 2006/12/01.
If you cant find it anywhere else, maybe I could download it and get it to you somehow!
Cheers,
Chris

Hey mate,
Yeah, i cant log into the dopod site as i have an imate so it doesnt accept the serial number. If you could download it and post it on a filesharing site or something, that would be awesome. I know they are fairly big so i assume that writes email out (i have space, im on gmail)
Also, is WM6 good? where do i upgrade?
Thanks so much for your help
No probs mate, its uploading to www.megaupload.com now, i'll update this post with a link when complete. (approx 25 mins to go)
EDIT: Here is the link to the Dopod ROM: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=OY2IJE79 (I'll update the Wiki with this link soon)
EDIT2: I have updated the Wiki with this ROM info. As i haven't installed it, i can't confirm the exact radio, bootloader etc versions however i believe its just minor changes from the previous release so have left most of the versions the same. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
As for upgrading, before you do anything i would read, read and read as much of the XDA Wiki as you can. If you havent flashed any ROM's on your JasJam before you will need to do this before uprading to the Dopod ROM as your JasJam will most likely still be locked down to i-mate ROM's only and the Wiki explains exactly what you need to do.
The link to the Wiki is here ---->> http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
As for upgrading to WM6, the same advice applies. All the information you need is in the Wiki or the Hermes Mobile 6 forum and as long as you read carefully before doing anything you should be right to go.

I already have the ExtROM but I couldn't find the network wizard cab file.
Can anybody upload the NetWiz.cab from 838Pro (WM5) ROM code for Hutchison ‘3’ Australia Network - version 1.30.707.8?
Thanks in advanced.
These settings are pretty hard to find. I think it's all I've done all night.
Courtesy of a thread on Aussie3G, I got a link to a thread on this site.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298936
Amongst the attachments on that thread is a "CWW Enterprises AUS Operator Con.cab"
This program has configuration settings for the Australian carriers, including "Three".
I've just run it and it's created 3mms, 3services & 3netaccess, but I'm still having troubles with email. I'll be leaving it to another day now.
If you can get it all working, please tell me how
Cheers, Oggy.
User Agent String From 1.30.707.8 PIE

[Q] Any idea about release for HD2 3.14 sea-wwe rom?

3.14.405 (WWE-EUROPE)- installs fine but phone gets hung when increase/decrease volume in a call.
3.14.720 (WWE-India)- get the following msg after install: Your OS ROM isn't customized for your hardware. Please reflash the proper ROM code or contact the service center.
Had to flash back to the old and boring 1.66.707 with Radio version 2.06
Get issues with most of the custom roms as well. feel we ve the most deprived HD2

Although I hadn't planned on up-dating my ROM, if there is/was one available, I do have a couple of questions.
1) How can I determine the region for my HD2? I also think it's Southeast Asia, but I could be wrong.
2) What is the clear advantage of up-dating the ROM. My phone is working quite well, and doing pretty much what I want, so I would only up-date if there's a significant reason for doing so.
Here's my info:
HTC HD2
Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional
OS Version: 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
Manila Version: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM version: 1.48.707.2 (71294) WWE
ROM date: 11/09/09
ROM Region: South-East Asia (I'm guessing here)
Radio version: 2.05.51.05_2
Protocol version: 15.28.50.07U
Thanks,
Peter

Thanks for the info. How did you determine the region? Is there a place online where one can see a list of ROM numbers and in what region they apply?
Thanks,

Addendum: I think you may be wrong. I just went to HTC's Malaysia site and tried to download the ROM up-grade listed for the HD2, but it said, "Sorry, this software download is not suitable for your device."
i think singapore and malaysia both have same units...the sea version..they have not released any rom updates there..so where were you trying to download from? ... also, kurt willems has posted it somewhere in his posts, the different roms region wise

As I said in my previous post, I tried to download the ROM up-grade from HTC's Malaysia site at the following link:
http://www.htc.com/sea/
If you go to ANY HTC site, click on "Select Country," and then click on Malaysia, you get the link above.
Now here's what's really weird (the RED part from another post of mine)...
Here are the details concerning my phone:
S/N: HT01XNW02546
Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional
OS Version: 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
Manila Version: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM version: 1.48.707.2 (71294) WWE
ROM date: 11/09/09
ROM Region: South-East Asia (I'm guessing here)
Radio version: 2.05.51.05_2
Protocol version: 15.28.50.07U
SPL: 2.08.HSPL (Old 1.42.0000)
I have tried virtually every HTC site online and only two of them allow me to download a ROM up-grade: The Hong Kong Traditional Chinese site, and the Hong Kong English site. However, and here's the hitch, both of the file names contain the letters CHT (not WWE) which, I believe, means Chinese. If I were to use this ROM, would my phone change from English to Chinese?
What can I do to up-grade. As you can see, my ROM is quite old. I'd really like to up-grade, but I don't want to brick my phone. It's working well right now, but if there are numerous improvements, perhaps up-grading would be a good idea.
Any thoughts, comments or suggestions?
Peter
Addendum: I see on page 1 of this thread that there are four possible ROMs that I could use (I think):
World Wide English (WWE) 3.14.405.2
Hong Kong: (HKSCL_WWE) 3.14.831.3
World Wide English (WWE) 1.66.405.2
South East Asia (Asian WWE) 1.66.707.1 (This one seems to match my S/N prefix)
What happens if I up-grade using any of the four above? Will some cause problems, will all work, will none work? Please help.
@ PeterHTC
Based on your information; (ROM version: 1.48.707.2)
You mention to have a x.XX.707.x ROM! (Aria Rom = South East Asia)
Now if you will try to install a other Rom aria version as the one you have fore the moment you need to install it over HSPL ore Goldcard.
But; HSPL and stock ROM 3.14 aren't compatible! So if you will install the latest stock ROM (3.14) you need to use GoldCard technique.
Install stock ROM 3.14 in combination with HSPL caused problems on limited Program Memory.
So use the GoldCard technique or wait fore a 3.14.707.x stock ROM.
and the rom update on the sea website is an old one for 1.66 version...the new 3.14 version is not posted on the sea website...just wait for it..it will come..........mail to the customer care at htc from the website...remind them .........it works
can anyone provide us with at least a leaked rom for asia-wwe?

In case peoples are looking for mirror download links; here you have: RUU_Leo_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.14.707.3
Anyone can tell me or point me to any site that tells what this ROM entails?
Here are the details concerning my phone:
Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional
OS Version: 5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
Manila Version: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM version: 1.48.707.2 (71294) WWE
ROM date: 11/09/09
Radio version: 2.05.51.05_2
Protocol version: 15.28.50.07U
I have tried virtually every HTC site online and only two of them allow me to download a ROM up-grade: The Hong Kong Traditional Chinese site, and the Hong Kong English site. However, and here's the hitch, both of the file names contain the letters CHT (not WWE) which, I believe, means Chinese. If I were to use this ROM, would my phone change from English to Chinese?
I wish I'd read Peter's post before I downloaded the ROM upgrade!
I bought my HD2 in New York last March. The OS, ROM, Manila, Radio and Protocols versions were identical to Peter's listed above.
I went to the Hong Kong-English section of the HTC site, where ROM Version 3.14.831.3 (Release Date: 2010-11-02) was available to download.
My S/N was accepted and I proceeded to download the ROM. The installation instructions were mostly in Chinese, but foolishly I did not suspect anything and persisted with the installation, using guesswork and intuition. Also (foolishly) I failed to notice that the actual ROM I downloaded was Version 3.14.832.3 (04666) CHT.
Now I am stuck with a Chinese language HD2 which is virtually impossible to use.
Can anyone help please?
Eamonn.
When I bought my HD2 - which is a 707 hardware. (Same deal, chinese mall in Toronto) it was in chinese, the girl changed it over to english for me and aside from the extra keyboard button that would kick it over into chinese from time to time, it was workable.
What I've done with mine, as I don't know chinese and gave up learning years ago, was install the latest Artemis ROM after goldcarding it. Instructions are on the thread. Goldcarding makes the hardware not check to see what region it is locked to while loading new firmware - so you can flash WWE or whatever you want to it.
