backup without SD card - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I want to upgrade my i-mate pocket pc to either wm2003se or wm2005. My problem is that I want to back up everything on my phone first but I do not have a memory card. Is there anyway to backup directly to my computer? If not, how can i find the correct operator code (cellcom in Israel) so I do not have anyproblems putting the new ROM on my phone?

Restoring Contacts from SD Card :(

Hello there
I was have WM2003 (ROM 4.0.0.5) , but when I noticed slowness I decided to go back to 3.18, so I used SD Backup wich come with WM2003
I backed up only Contacnts and Appointments
Then , I downgrade to 3.18. I tried to use SD Backup to Restore Contacnts, but when I press "Restore" tab, it gives me
Source: None
Space Needed: None
Soace Available: None
and Button 'Start' is disabled
So I'm stuck I can't restore my contacts. and ActiveSync doesn't have my contacts because I didn't install Outlook, so they are bit sycned
Please guys, tell me how to restore my conacts in PPC2002 from my SD Card...
Regards
save contacts and appointments via the Permenant save, in SETTINGS
works alot faster , and no sd required
Thank you for suggestion
but for now , how to restore the contacts, should I go back to WM2003 ?
BTW, how does permenant save works if there is no memory works without power? are you talking about the new i-mate ppc (XDA II) or Qtek (O2 XDA) ?
Another question , from where did you get 4.00.21 ? and do you still able to upgrade/downgrade using Programme A ?
Last question, If you are using XDA, T-Mobile or Qtek with WM2003 . is it fast enough or PPC2002 is faster ?
Thanks

if you Must have 2002, then i suggest going to 2003 first, save to permenant memory (xda1) then go back to 2002 and restore from it.
that memeory work without power, because its static memory. just like that 1k memory built into most modems, that no one notices.
once u upgrade to 2003, u can only go back to 2002 via bootloader/sd card method. program A wont work.
what 4.00.21?
i liked the 2003, but some games didnt work quite right on it. due to internal timming issues. so i went back to 2002. awaiting the Real final release of 2003.
Thanks so much
I'm now going back to 2003
Permenant Save is really cool, thanks a lot

WM5 Upgrade **** up

Hi guys
I've just upgraded to WM5 making sure I ran a back up of my contacts and calander before.
The CompactFlashBackUpPim file is on my Storage card.
But now I have upgraded my ROM I find out there is no XBackup on WM5.
How do I get my contacts back.
I'm stuffed with out them.
I've tryed rolling back to what it was before but with no joy as the ROM has been up graded.
I'm really struggling here.
All my contact and dariy information have allways been back up using the x back up the old version.
I don't need to roll back from wm5 I just need to get my contacts back.
Is there a way I can do this.
I can't contact any one I've lot everything.
I have back up of the back ups on my PC but there all going to be in X back up format.
ARRRRRRRH
Didn't you ever activesync them to your PC?
Do you know anyone who'd be prepared to lend you a phone, xbackup to that, and sync to your PC, and then sync back to your new phone?
Any chance of downgrading and syncing?
V
I thought about this but everyone I know has WM5.
I have backups backed up on my PC but there all in xback up format.
I had everything in there fight referance for my comming holiday.

Procedure to Upgrade an Upgrade

I just wanted to double check before I do this, but I'm currently running DCD 3.2.3 and need to perform a hard reset (too many test programs installed and removed over time).
I'd like to upgrade to DCD 3.2.5. My plan is to just put it in boot loader mode (the tri-color screen) and run BuildNB.bat to let it reset all the programs with the latest and greatest. At this time I can also re-add back in the games and VPN software that I failed to install during my last install.
Is that basically all that I need to do? Once it comes up, I'll install the carrier cab, reprogram the device and install all my programs back.
Can someone whose done this a few times verify that I got that right?

USB method.
1) Get an activesync connection in WM.
2) Using the kitchen, Run BuildNB.Bat.
3) "Play"... then allow the RomUpdateUtility to run.
That's it. Then do your carrier cab etc.
SD Card Method.
1) Run BuildNB.Bat... "Play"... when RomUpdateUtility comes up... just close it. Find the ROM folder and rename the Ruu_signed.nbh file TITAIMG.nbh. Copy it to your formatted (Fat32) MicroSD card (<=2gb non-SDHC)
2) After copied to card, insert microSD card into phone, then do the "Bootloader" method (Power+Camera+reset)
then follow the prompts. Do your carrier cab... etc.
Thanks for the quick reply. This site absolutely rocks!
and no need to do a hard reset prior, installing a new rom will delete everything that you installed, including your contacts. I would recommend just backing up your essentials

First, don't do anything to your phone. First, you must...

How do you flash a phone with a new os (WM6, etc.)?

When and why should I revert to my service provider's base ROM?
Die-hard flash fans will revert back to the SP ROM on every upgrade, to avoid Extended ROM corruption. This isn't absolutely required, but most die-hards will recommend it. I recommend it.
I have a G4...HardSPL, SoftSPL, what's the difference, and why should I care?
Because of previous question, I usually recommend using SoftSPL for most people, but the RUU doesn't always work with everyone's ROMs.
SoftSPL (one-shot)
HardSPL (semi-permanent)
Removing HardSPL
The cook's installer didn't work on my phone, where's a good one?
Mun's RUU(works for almost everyone...just drop the nk.nbf into Mun's RUU, and flash away...)
What are the must-have computing items for flashing a phone?
The most reliable method is with a Windows XP machine loaded with Activesync 4.5, and connected via USB cable. Don't try it on Vista or older Windows versions, as it usually fails, and might even brick your phone. If you're a Thunderbird/FinchSync user, don't even think about it.
For your mobile, get DotFred's PPC PIM Backup tool, and load it to your SD card, so you can back up your contact list, call history, etc. for easy personalization. Note: Remove your SD card while flashing; it has been known to corrupt flash process, and occasionally to wipe out your SD card. If that's where you're backing up your PIM data, you'll be pretty bummed.
What SD cards can I use?
Anything that is clearly non-HC (high capacity). Generally, if you stick to 2GB or less, you won't have a problem with this, but if you go looking for 4GB or higher, avoid anything with the HC label (i.e. SDHC); your hardware cannot read it, and it may corrupt data or even possibly (though rarely) brick your phone.
Which ROM is best?
Wrong question. Right question is: which is best for YOU? Try this thread for helpful pointers.

help!! phone dead after rom update

hi all need urgent advice as ive killed my hd2
i was fearful of upgrading to new rom from htc website (v-1.66...)
was using 1.48.405.2 (71294) wwe
I made sure i researched everything 1st. i downloaded trial of spb backup. installed to phone. did full backup, saved to sd card. closed all progs, phone & pc
opened rom update and followed instructions. update then finished, went through setup on phone.
all seemed fine. basic clock, time settings (few new features etc)
I then went to file explorer/storage card and opened spb backup file. clicked next throughout. device reset on its own and loaded with new rom number on startup.
Problem!!!!
have my background image up pictures seem to be back, as are messages. cab files ive installed are present but I cant access contacts and a few other features.
repeated messages are 'a problem has occured with cprog.exe' please tell microsoft blah blah!!!
Htc sense will not launch despite how hard i hit the screen.
Ive no signal at all and cant sync with my pc. i guess suggestions of a hard reset will follow this post but will i not be in the same boat as i will need to restore my settings etc from sd card and spb backup.
please help!!!
try to flash the rom again or try to use your old one.

ok. will try
shouldprob mention that i got a strange message when trying to restore
'this device is different from one which this backup was made. please choose upgrade mode'
then a dropdown menu with
'normal mode'
'rom upgrade mode'
'device upgrade mode'
with a check box 'overwrite existing files' (this is checked)
seems strange but the message before states that the backup was created on an t-mob leo device.
something wrong here maybe???
yeah could be.
sorry mate, i'm not very knowledged about spb backup
DN41
sp backup has a "rom upgrade" option i'm guessing you usedthat? in which case that's the problem, because it really means upgrade of the same rom, whereas you have a totally new rom, so should use the individual settingsoption, and reinstall your programs manually.
(based on reading, i've never done it myself, nor used sp backup)
re flash your original rom, restore your backup and think again how and what you are backing up.
just tried a 'normal restore' as the description says restore to original device backup was made on.
phone has now turned on with everything the same as i left it but looking at the software description its gone back to the original rom 1.48.405.2
do i have to run the update again?
what the hell is going on with this phone!!!
no, the rom is the new rom, but thats a fine example of whats wrong.
It has restored the rom version info from your registry backup.
The rom version is not a problem, of course, it just says teh wwrong thing, but there are likely to be loads of reg settings that ARE a problem.
Basically, using backup software can be a pain, till you know its pitfalls. Thats why i dont bother. Contacts/calendar via outlook, and thats it. Everything else i setup manually myself. (Well, i dont cos by now i've made cabs for all my tweaks and what not, but tyou get the idea.)
This is one of the main reasons I don't backup Settings and Programs. I only back up my PIM, and sometimes even that plays up.
You are better off just syncing your phone with Outlook, hardreset, sync again to get your PIM information, and reinstalling your programs one by one.
I can tell you this I use SPB backup all the time, but ...
1.) Normal restore is only for restoring to the EXACT same ROM that you had on before ..
2.) ROM upgrade mode is only good for ROMs in the same series*
*ROM upgrade mode only works correctly on "upgraded" version of the same ROM you had on it , for example, in my case I use Energy ROM CHT 23569 JUL 1st, I make a backup, then upgrade to Energy ROM CHT 23569 JUL 16th, then ROM upgrade mode should work, but if you go say from a Stock TMO rom to a custom rom or a 21xxx series rom to a 23xxx series rom you will have "ISSUES".
If you plan on flashing ROMs often , you either need to learn to use something like XDA_UC, Sashimi, or Toms Autoinstall, and make frequent PIM backups ..
As well as keeping all your program cabs in a safe organized place so you can put them back on ...
I hope this helps you get it sorted ....
