Procedure to Upgrade an Upgrade - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

I just wanted to double check before I do this, but I'm currently running DCD 3.2.3 and need to perform a hard reset (too many test programs installed and removed over time).
I'd like to upgrade to DCD 3.2.5. My plan is to just put it in boot loader mode (the tri-color screen) and run BuildNB.bat to let it reset all the programs with the latest and greatest. At this time I can also re-add back in the games and VPN software that I failed to install during my last install.
Is that basically all that I need to do? Once it comes up, I'll install the carrier cab, reprogram the device and install all my programs back.
Can someone whose done this a few times verify that I got that right?

USB method.
1) Get an activesync connection in WM.
2) Using the kitchen, Run BuildNB.Bat.
3) "Play"... then allow the RomUpdateUtility to run.
That's it. Then do your carrier cab etc.
SD Card Method.
1) Run BuildNB.Bat... "Play"... when RomUpdateUtility comes up... just close it. Find the ROM folder and rename the Ruu_signed.nbh file TITAIMG.nbh. Copy it to your formatted (Fat32) MicroSD card (<=2gb non-SDHC)
2) After copied to card, insert microSD card into phone, then do the "Bootloader" method (Power+Camera+reset)
then follow the prompts. Do your carrier cab... etc.

Thanks for the quick reply. This site absolutely rocks!

and no need to do a hard reset prior, installing a new rom will delete everything that you installed, including your contacts. I would recommend just backing up your essentials

Thanks so much! The install was quick and painless. This ROM is awesome too.

Extended ROM modification questions

I have a Cingular 8525 and using the HERMES_MountExtROM_v2.cab file I was able to unlock and unhide the Extended ROM. I would like to modify the cab files inside the ExtROM and I had a couple of questions:
1) If I delete some of the cab files to ensure that they won't get installed again after a hard reset, do I have to modify the Config.txt file?
I.e. if I delete C_Cingular_GoodEmail_081606.sa.cab from the ExtROM folder, I have to delete the same entry in the Config.txt file.
2) Some of the cab files are important, such as the MMS shortcut, while others I know I won't need, such as the Good_Email cab. However, there are a number of cab file that I am not sure what they are for. Can anyone tell me what are these for and if it is not important so that I can safely removed it from the ExtROM folder:
MT_PC_Hermes_GenericLight_REG_060609.CAB
C_getmail.ppc2005(HTC8100).ARMV4Rel.cingular.CAB
Is this for the "Get email" in the Today screen?
T_mm1lib_DLL.CAB
PP_PIE_Default.CAB
Is this for the Start Page in PIE?
SMS_Setting_07Jun06.CAB
Is this for setting up the Cingular's SMS service centre
Thanks!
Any expert?
Upgrade to the HTC 1.35 Rom. As I said, faster and no junks installed.
Doesn't HTC 1.35 also include bootloader 1.09 which will prevent you from down-grading the ROM to 1.04 and then unlocking the CID? 1.35 may well be faster, but probably ought to be sure that you have tweaked the CID, etc first...

Are you actually able to write anything to extROM? Have you tried installing a program there yet? I believe you have to have SuperCID to get the unlocker to work properly...

That's a very important fact! I wonder wha else the new bootloader is preventing. However, I have made my 8525 SuperCID..

I have made the 8525 SuperCID and can see the ExtROM from Resco File Explorer. I can delete and add CAB files, but have not installed a program there (yet).
For my original question: anyhting I need to do if I just simply want to modify the ExtROM content?

If you search the FTP or the wizard forum there is a thread by faria that discusses how to modify and customize your extended rom
What I did...
Is just copy off the Cingular crap and store it on my microSD card. I have installed a variety of programs (Opera, etc) into the ExtROM. Seems to all work fine, and I have used Sprite to preserve everything. Should I ever need to Hard Reset and recustomize back to the Cing settings I can just run Sprite to restore everything, or use the copied cabs should Sprite fail.

I would say it's about 5-10% faster and using 3-4MB less ram&rom.
Sure, you can downgrade the 1.09 bl back to 1.04. Read this:

I don't want to copy ALL of the cabs in the ExtROM, as some of them are essential. I.e. MMS shortcut is needed, otherwise I won't be able to configure or even see the MMS folder.
Have you ever modified SOME (Not all) of the cabs in the ExtROM AND perform a hard reset WITHOUT reverting to the Sprite backup? If yes, do you need to modify the Config.txt?
Also, do you know the purpose of some of the cab file listed above?
I've used Sprite backup and also SpB backup for the past 1 year and I noticed that sometimes the backup won't help depending on the issue I am having. For example, I had issue with dangling notifications where the phone kept on beeping during the restart, as if there is an appointment and restoring the backup won't help for some reason, hence I had to hard reset.

When I hard reset my 8525, I soft reset it again BEFORE the ExtROM cabs are installed. So I have minimal ROM/RAM usage. As a matter of fact, I'll have about 30+Mb free RAM.
I am hesistant to upgrade to another ROM now, unless it has fixed AKU3. Otherwise, I'd have to spent the whole day re-installing and re-configuring the device again.

I think NOT installing the ext_ROM cabs gives you about 3 to 5 Mb extra RAM, not 30!?

help!! phone dead after rom update

hi all need urgent advice as ive killed my hd2
i was fearful of upgrading to new rom from htc website (v-1.66...)
was using 1.48.405.2 (71294) wwe
I made sure i researched everything 1st. i downloaded trial of spb backup. installed to phone. did full backup, saved to sd card. closed all progs, phone & pc
opened rom update and followed instructions. update then finished, went through setup on phone.
all seemed fine. basic clock, time settings (few new features etc)
I then went to file explorer/storage card and opened spb backup file. clicked next throughout. device reset on its own and loaded with new rom number on startup.
Problem!!!!
have my background image up pictures seem to be back, as are messages. cab files ive installed are present but I cant access contacts and a few other features.
repeated messages are 'a problem has occured with cprog.exe' please tell microsoft blah blah!!!
Htc sense will not launch despite how hard i hit the screen.
Ive no signal at all and cant sync with my pc. i guess suggestions of a hard reset will follow this post but will i not be in the same boat as i will need to restore my settings etc from sd card and spb backup.
please help!!!
try to flash the rom again or try to use your old one.

ok. will try
shouldprob mention that i got a strange message when trying to restore
'this device is different from one which this backup was made. please choose upgrade mode'
then a dropdown menu with
'normal mode'
'rom upgrade mode'
'device upgrade mode'
with a check box 'overwrite existing files' (this is checked)
seems strange but the message before states that the backup was created on an t-mob leo device.
something wrong here maybe???
yeah could be.
sorry mate, i'm not very knowledged about spb backup

sp backup has a "rom upgrade" option i'm guessing you usedthat? in which case that's the problem, because it really means upgrade of the same rom, whereas you have a totally new rom, so should use the individual settingsoption, and reinstall your programs manually.
(based on reading, i've never done it myself, nor used sp backup)
re flash your original rom, restore your backup and think again how and what you are backing up.
just tried a 'normal restore' as the description says restore to original device backup was made on.
phone has now turned on with everything the same as i left it but looking at the software description its gone back to the original rom 1.48.405.2
do i have to run the update again?
what the hell is going on with this phone!!!
no, the rom is the new rom, but thats a fine example of whats wrong.
It has restored the rom version info from your registry backup.
The rom version is not a problem, of course, it just says teh wwrong thing, but there are likely to be loads of reg settings that ARE a problem.
Basically, using backup software can be a pain, till you know its pitfalls. Thats why i dont bother. Contacts/calendar via outlook, and thats it. Everything else i setup manually myself. (Well, i dont cos by now i've made cabs for all my tweaks and what not, but tyou get the idea.)
This is one of the main reasons I don't backup Settings and Programs. I only back up my PIM, and sometimes even that plays up.
You are better off just syncing your phone with Outlook, hardreset, sync again to get your PIM information, and reinstalling your programs one by one.
I can tell you this I use SPB backup all the time, but ...
1.) Normal restore is only for restoring to the EXACT same ROM that you had on before ..
2.) ROM upgrade mode is only good for ROMs in the same series*
*ROM upgrade mode only works correctly on "upgraded" version of the same ROM you had on it , for example, in my case I use Energy ROM CHT 23569 JUL 1st, I make a backup, then upgrade to Energy ROM CHT 23569 JUL 16th, then ROM upgrade mode should work, but if you go say from a Stock TMO rom to a custom rom or a 21xxx series rom to a 23xxx series rom you will have "ISSUES".
If you plan on flashing ROMs often , you either need to learn to use something like XDA_UC, Sashimi, or Toms Autoinstall, and make frequent PIM backups ..
As well as keeping all your program cabs in a safe organized place so you can put them back on ...
I hope this helps you get it sorted ....

[Q] All cab installations unsuccessful - TMoUS

I am unable to uninstall any cab files from file explorer after a hard reset to my TMobile HD2. The complete error message is "Installation of xxxxx.cab was unsuccessful" and happens immediately (less than a second) after opening any cab.
I went as far as to hard reset the phone again without the SD card in, redownload the cab to local storage, and the problem persists.
I have tried 4-5 .cab's that worked before the hard reset, and I can't get any of them to work.
Anyone have any ideas?
Update: i can install the coreplayer from a cab, but several others i used to have installed do not work: battlog, htc wifi sharing, among others I believe I got from here.
Well that's weird, i re-downloaded the cab from here, and it works. Apparently all the .cab files i had stored on the SD card (in case i needed to reset the phone and quickly reinstall everything) didn't work.
Do the actual .cab files get modified when you use them such that they won't work again after a hard reset?

nope. been using some of my cabs for years. What probably happened is your sd card got corrupted. I would scan and fix errors on the card or look into purchasing a new one.

[Q] Program icons in Marketplace are incorrect after ROM upgrade to 3.14

Recently I upgraded my HTC ROM from 1.66 to 3.14, followed by restore operation using SPB backup to restore all programs installed from v1.66. However I discovered that almost all of my installed program icons on the Marketplace are not correctly display, it showed the icons from other programs. The program icons on my phone is correct. I did try to uninstalled, clean up all residual files from memory, registry key clean up, then installed again, problem still exist. Anyone how idea how this being resolved? Thanks..
ahknow have you hard reset your phone after upgrading? Because thats what usually what happens after you upgrade your phone. i had the same problem earlier when i upgraded, but after hard reseting my phone every thing work and display properly.
You mean power up again after upgrade? Yes, I did but same problem happen. I have not done any factory reset, that will wipe out all my programs....will be my last steps if no solution coming...
Managed to figure out the problem. Need to clear the "Cache" contain.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders]
This is the default:
"Cache"="\\Windows\\Profiles\\guest\\Temporary Internet Files"

Help: android 2.1 reinstall

Hi there
I followed an online tutorial a while ago to put android 2.1 (could have been 2.3) on my htc hd2.
I loaded on the magloader and pushed on the android software and it worked lovely.
Then a week ago the phone decided to freeze and I couldn't unlock the screen. A few minutes before it locked it had unlocked a little sluggishly and then wouldn't unlock at all.
I re-started and tried a soft and a hard reset to no avail.
I can still load into the magloader and so had a go this weekend loading on clockwork recovery. Downloaded a newer version of android and put it on the sd card. I managed to get it to install from the zip on the sd card, but it won't launch into android, it just loads the magloader.
My pc won't find my phone so if anyone can help with a link to the right software for my winxp pc to recognise my hd2 that would be a first step as I think I need to remove the original android files from the phones internal memory.
If that's the wrong approach I would be grateful for any advice. :fingers-crossed:
I don't have the phone with me at work at the moment and I know I am a bit vague on the details, but I'm hoping someone knows their way around the magloader and clockwork to point me in the right direction. I am especially frustrated with the pc not seeing my phone. I installed the htc sync manager, but that doesn't work.
I can see the phone as a removeable drive in my disk management, but not in my computer. I can explore it from there, but it's just the sd card and not the phone itself.
If anyone could help that would be great. I don't want to give up on my hd2 yet, but I'm missing my whatsapp, etc
Thank you for looking and sorry for being so vague and so useless.
Mods: If this is in the wrong section please feel free to move it. Thanks.
All you had to do was download the .zip file for the ROM, copy it to your SD card, if you did not download the .zip with your HD2. Then boot into Clockwork Mod Recovery or whatever custom Recovery you have on your HD2. Then wipe your delvick cache, your cache, and data then flash the ROM using the recovery.

I've seen this by T-Macgnolia on a an upgrade thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618570
Is this likely to work for me? I will look at how to clear the delvick cache (whatever that is).
Please let me know if you can help.
