HTC Wallaby (PW10A2) crashed - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

My HTC Wallaby (PW10A2) is crashed. Every 10 minutes the following happens (only when connected to power):
1) <Welcome to T-Mobile> in the center, right bottom: <3.18.01>
2) right bottom above <3.18.01>: <G R>
3) system beeping
4) system searches for 1 sec.
5) grey screen with right bottom the keyboard symbol.
After 5 minutes 1) starts again.
How can I start windows again?
I have tried all kinds of resets, but nothing seems to help.
What to do?
ActiveSync doesn't recognize the MDA

Looks like you have a problem with your Radio Stack....

I TRIED EVERYTHING! ROM v. 1.72 Upgrade Radio Stack Problem

Hello,
I recently acquired an i-mate and before doing anything, decided to perform a ROM upgrade. It started with ROM version 1.66.00WWE and Radio version 1.10.00. I followed all the instructions on the clubimate website. The ROM upgrade (Step 1) went well, until I started the English Language customization (step 2). That program froze on my computer and left the i-mate in bootloader mode, even before starting the Extended ROM upgrade for the customizations. When trying to upgrade the main 1.72 ROM again, it gets stuck at the Radio Stack Upgrade (to version 1.14) at 14%, then either exits with no message (Win XP), or gives a Radio Stack Upgrade error message (Win 98 ME). The phone meanwhile says that it is perfuming the radio stack upgrade and to please wait. Waiting for an hour yielded no change. The following is the log file entries of the part for the Radio Stack upgrade:
03:06:42 Connection with USB
03:07:52 Begin Stage 4
03:08:22 Radio Erase retry 1
03:08:59 Radio Erase retry 2
03:09:15 Stage 4 Complete
03:09:15 Begin Stage 5
03:09:15 Write block1
03:09:26 Write block2
03:09:32 Write block3
03:10:08 Radio Update data retry 1
03:10:16 Write block4
03:10:24 Write block5
03:10:32 Write block6
03:10:40 Write block7
03:10:49 Write block8
03:11:25 Radio Update data retry 2
03:12:01 Radio Update data retry 3
I tried many times, but get the same result. I followed all advice on this forum and searched all over for solutions, from getting the device into bootloader mode (power button + action button + reset), making sure that my PC does not have any other USB device connected, that the only programs running are the upgrade utility and ActiveSync 3.7.1, etc.
I also notice it takes approx 1 hour from start of upgrade until the Radio Stack Upgrade, instead of the advertised 30 minutes. Someone mentioned that this Radio Stack Upgrade problem may be caused by a security feature on the Radio Stack ROM preventing the installation of older versions. However, I am installing the newest (ver 1.14), so this should not be a problem. With a hunch, I decided to try the English Language Customization (1.72.800) upgrade again, and the extended ROM upgrade worked, but still no Radio Stack. So now I ave everything upgraded, but a blank Radio Stack.
Now when performing a hard reset, I get the blue screen with "i-mate" written on it. In the bottom right only the version of the ROM "D 1.72.00 WWE" is shown, but it says "No GSM" right above it. It takes approx. 15 minutes to boot (with blue Bluetooth LED flashing), then goes through the screen alignment and intro procedure. After that, it installs customization and boots again. It takes another 15 minutes to boot and the phone functions only as a PDA. Even a soft reset takes 15 minutes (with Bluetooth LED flashing). I tried upgrading again after that, but no use. Going to "Device Information", I see the versions of ROM and Extended ROM, but the Radio and Protocol are blank.
I tried phased upgrading, where I would include the main ROM upgrade file into to the directory where the archive was extracted, then extended ROM, then radio stack. Everytime the radio stack upgrade failed (i.e. stuck at 14%), I would try to upgrade that part only, since all others upgraded successfully.
I am really out of options. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
I asked Carrier Devices (clubimate) about this step 2 because on the official download page all I saw was the step 1, no step 2 and no link to download.
The answer I got was there is no english customization 800, only a beta. The customization or step2 would be presented for arabic or telstar etc based on your IMEI # not for english it is contained in the first .exe
So you MUST have got this 800 customization and maybe the main upgrade from on here because it was never on the offical download page. Only the BETA from the FTP which some hacked into on clubimate and posted on here.
Go to the official download page on clubimate (register if you havn't) and dowload the official .exe upgrade (one file) and see if it will run. Don't get it from here.
RUU172126WWE_imate.exe
Hard reset a couple times and that should be it. The upgrade does take a LONG time to do.
If that does not work, you might have to do a warranty repair, I would use the online chat support on clubimate, just watch for when they are online and ask. I don't think you can just flash the radio portion.
I find 1.72 VERY stable and fast. Good luck!
Hmm.. All files were downloaded from the official clubimate website (I had to register in order to download). Talking to customer support, they were aware of the Step 2 customization file on their site (they recommended it, too). I doubt I downloaded hacked ones.
Still a loss on what to do, other than take it to a service center, that is (anybody do that? was it expensive? took too long?).
I tried a suggestion where I extracted the Radio Stack ROM upgrade file from version 1.66 and installing it separately. Still stops at 14%. I also tried a full reflash back to 1.66, but also same result. Took it to an i-mate service center nearby, was surprised that they didn't even know how to put the i-mate into bootloader mode (I had to show them)! All they could do was try reflashing using the same utilities we use (still no luck). They said that anything more elaborate would require sending it to Dubai. So much for "service" center. So, no luck there, either.
Also tried to reflash to the orginal 1.00 ROM with 1.05 Radio: The upgrade utilitiy that came with that version won't go past the small "please wait...." screen. Just sits there.
Really sad. I didn't even use this phone (figured that the best start is to perform a ROM upgrade). I'm not that impressed with how fragile ROM upgrading is (and I am careful with using only official releases). I thought after the Wallaby, things would be more robust. Maybe I shold dump this thing and get an HP h6300 series.
Note that I managed to successfully upgrade to 1.72 at least once. It was only when trying the 1.72.800 customization did things start to go south.
Also, does it matter whether the SIM card is in the phone or not while upgrading? Instructions are not clear, although they did mention that the phone will behave as if it is out of area.
Another question (desperate and a long shot, maybe stupid), Do SIM cards from say T-Mobile have an effect on i-mate phone Radio Stack ROM (i.e. lock it, etc.?)
ANY help would be appreciated!
i-mate and bootloader
I just got to see the problem as I am going through the same search for answer. How to get to the stage of bootloader? Somehow I feel that the device has crashed: While I was trying to install the upgrade RUU172126WWE_imate, my laptop, and for some odd reason, shut itself down, then auto restarted. The i-mate from that point on did not respond and in fact all lights on the device went blackout. I tried soft and hard resets but to no avail. I even removed the battery for several hours and when I re-installed it, all what it gave me was the word i-mate (but no backlight). Any advise on how I can get the device functional again.
Thank you.
Put your device in bootloader (press the Jog button and the Power button at same time and press the reset switch). Place it in the cradle and re-run the upgrade. That should work OK.
Jog
Thanks for the quick reply.
Power and reset button I know, but I am not familiar with the Jog button on the i-mate (Pocket PC PE). Appreicate your help.
Its the multi-directional button in the middle at the bottom. Press it straight down.

O2xda _ PW10A series need some help

Hi over
I still have the same problem, my xda was all right when I tried to install an eglish version of the radio that works only in englang and eire, because I was planning to go abroad then, it broke down, I mean : the batery doesn't charge, I did a reset from that time it works only on the cradle or in rhe charger, it shows an old version of OS that dates :
may 2002, the phone doesn't work, it's very slow and it resets by itself.
My frend have an Imate I copied all what was in his device in an sd card within windows, it shos now some programs but still not recognized by ActivSync : 3.7.1,3.8, 4.1 versions.
could you help me please?
yours faithfully!
Looks like your Radio stack is broken. The radio stack also handle the charging process.
Isa your phone part still working?
When you´re doing a softreset, what Versions are displayed in the lower right corner?
If you just get the ROM Version and nor Radio Version you could try this:

Stefan
Well!
the phone is not working, the dialog box is asking if I wanna turn it on I am answering yes but it won't go on.
the displayed version number -in the biggining- is 3 12 like that, and the date when it enteres OS is 20 May 2002. it's takining long time to respond, as I aline the screen to work with the stylus and try to configure some tasks and programs just for try, because it still doesn't connect to the pc, it reset by itself, then its always displaying the same version 3 12, the radio setting messages says : radio off, gprs off, phone off.
I think the operating system is seeking some files, because some programs displays a message like this: no application is associated with this program, run the application from it's location the try again.
but I don't know how to install the operation system because the device can not connect to the pc,
I haven't tried the wallaby special radion method.

help required

Hi guys,
I've got a T-Mobile MDA Vario 2 (Hermes).
i used the "HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlocker *New* version v3a" tool so i could then load any ROM i want. I followed the instructions perfectly and then ran the unlocker, and that went fine too, however, when i'm trying to change to a particular ROM version, it gives me a "error 101 : Connection Error" after it tries to check the status of the device......it gets to the tricolour bootloader screen absolutely fine and the screen shows the following -
HERM300
IPL - 1.01
HERM300
SPL-1.40Olipro
It sits saying 'Checking the information onyour device..........please wait' for around 2 minutes, then kicks back and gives me the "Error 101 : Connection Error".
I have tried the search function, but there's not a lot i can find on the problem.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Mark
That drove me crazy too until I finally found a post on another board explaining what to do.
If you notice when the updater is running, your activesync program will exit. Immediatelly restart activesync when you see it exit. It will not reconnect to your device, in fact it will show not connected but that is ok. The ruu is only using the activesync program, not to actual connection to communicate with your device.
I actually created an easily accessible activesync icon on the desktop of my PC so I can restart it quickly. Watch it closely, I have had the activesync program exit up to two times before I ever get the installation underway.
I guess this is normal, based on what I have read elsewhere.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you are successful with this method.

[solved] What should I do now? Error while ROM flashing

Hi,
I'm trying to flash my Wizard (T-Mobile Mda Vario to be exact) to WM6 ("SNN Edition Version 3.0 LITE"). And I'm stuck
Before I touched anything that was what I got:
IPL: 2.21.0001
SPL: 2.21.0001
GSM: 02.19.11
OS: 2.21.26
// Just after I got my Wizard I have used lokiwiz03a to be able to use it with my Orange SIM card, but after that I have hard reseted it.
Here's what I have done:
- I'm using a Windows XP computer
1. I took off the SIM card and SD card.
2. Turned on my Wizard and connected it via USB to computer (with the latest ActiveSync - don't know the version but I've just downloaded it from Microsoft site).
3. It has synchronized.
- my battery was 85% full
4. I've downloaded "Wizard Service Tool" and clicked the wide button on the top "Enable RAPI..." or something like that (at the black screen on the left it said that I should click this button before doing anything else with this program). Then I clicked "Device Info" to be sure that I have a G4 Wizard.
5. I have unplugged the Wizard's USB (I don't really know why, but I've been nervous).
6. Then plugged it again and waited until the ActiveSync has synchronized.
7. I've used HardSPL as told in "Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies" - everything came fine. I got the white screen and after my device has restarted I had:
IPL 2.21.0001
SPL 2.21.olip
// I don't remember what OS version was, and I got no GSM line
8. I waited for ActiveSync to synchronize and then ran ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe (from "SNN Edition Version 3.0 LITE" - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=383524).
9. I did what the program had told me to do (it has been the same as HardSPL).
10. In one of the final steps (after clicking "UPDATE") it hadn't written any information about "Image Version" and "Language" in "To" section but I didn't take this as an issue and clicked "next".
11. I got the progress bar, my Wizard's screen went black.
12. Finally, on the PC I got the information saying that it can't accomplish the upgrade and I should get a newer version of RUU or something like that (I freaked out and closed that window without making a screen shoot). I didn't get even 1% (I had 0) but I've seen the progress bar.
What I have now on my Wizard are three colored bars on my screen. In the top right corner it's written "RUU", in the bottom left "USB". I also have "IPL 2.21.0001" and "SPL 2.21.olip" written on the bars.
Please tell me what should I do now?
Should I unplug my Wizard's USB from PC?
Should I click any button on my Wizard?
Do I already have a brick or is there a chance for me?
Please help.
Thanks in advance,
Alex(ander)
From the "Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies" guide, download the Mun RUU and use that. Extract it somewhere and paste the nk.nbf file from the ROM you wish to use and it should be ok. If you reset your wizard it will boot in WM normally. There's nothing wrong with it.
Thank you very much. You gave me hope
I'll do what you've said when I calm down.
EDIT//
Man, that's great. I have the WM6
Thanks a lot again
You are welcome. Glad everything worked out well.

Loop Start or Error: "invalid vendor id"

Hello Professionals (0:
Sorry for my bad English, German was better (o;
My HTC S740 / Rose starts suddenly no more.
It starts always new after the new "smart mobility" screen
= Loop
Do you have a solution without having to send to HTC?
BTW: When I try to flash I get the error message:
"invalid vendor id"
although it is actually an original HTC device is.
Thank you for your help (o:
What ROM are you trying to flash? The ROM is probably for some other branded S740.
To flash this ROM anyway you can use QMAT to generate goldcard and flash it (extracted ROSEIMG.nbh) from card...
interessting! can you post some link or how-to ?! i realy want to try it
Hello.
I have the same problem.
I have S740 with wrong downloading soft.
When I try to load new ROM into my S740 after 1% downloading the Smartphone ROM Upadate Utlility 3.27.4.3 show ERROR [294]: INVALID VENDER ID.
I don't know what will be before.
How can I solve this problem?
I will be very very grateful.
Rgds.
Read the stickies. You need HardSPL.
Could you tell me step by step what I should do?
1. Activesync doesn't see phone.
2. When I turn on the phone (using data cable) is only black screen SMART MOBILITY and restart and restart ect ect.
3. I downloaded RUU_Rose_Orange_UK_1.17.61.2_Radio_sign_12.29.30.09_0.29.30.22_Ship and I copied RUU_signed.nbh into the microSD card.
4. I changed the name from RUU_signed.nbh to RoseIMG.nbh
5. I turned on the phone one more time, and put button VOL DOWN
6. Then we can see info LOADING, next CHECKING and next info 0028002 NOT ALLOWED
7. Then I can see screen red, green, blue and below is white part with info: USB
8. On this screen is also:
ROSE100
SPL-1.54.0000
MicroP-Rose (LED) v10
MicroP-Rose (KEY) v5
PCBID 0x80
RID 0x0
9. Activesync still doesn't see phone.
10. When I try to use ROMUpadateUtility after 1% I see ERROR [294]: INVALID VENDER ID.
11. I used older and new versions of ROMUpdateUtility and always is the same problem.
So could you tell me step by step what can I do?
Thank you for help!!!
Now I know more.
I tried to connect via Activesync and download new HardSPL, but there was no connection between S740 and Activesync. I used 2 comps, 2 different data cables and without any progress.
Seems that phone is without ROM now.
Connecting without microSD card is good. I turn on the phone, push VOL DOWN and I see boot menu with the SERIAL info. When I put data cable I can see USB.
So all seems to be correct.
But how to download HardSPL without Activesync?
I have no connection between phone and Acitesync so I can not download HardSPL. I use Rose-S740-HardSPL-Kit-by-jocky2001, hope that it is correct SPL.
