CPU Comparison?? (Wallaby vs. HP6315) - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I'm trying to decide which Pocket PC to keep.
I have an old Wallaby PW10B1 and a newer HP6315.
If I keep the Wallaby I can live without the Bluetooth and the Wireless NIC, plus I can upgrade it to 128MB of RAM.
My question is: Whcih CPU is better.
The PW10B1 "SEEMS" to be faster but I'm not sure if that is just me hoping.
PW10B1 has a an ARM SA1110 running at 206MHz.
HP6315 has TI OMAP1510 running at 200MHz.
Just checking to get others input, since all CPU's aren't created equal.
Also does anyone use the PW10B1 for faxes I have tried everything I can find but it doesn't work.

Out of interest, how do you upgrade the RAM on your Wallaby?
Regards,
Neil.

hermes with 128MB RAM? possible?

is it possible to upgrade our hermes to 128mb of ram??
anyone done it yet?
I've seen somebdy changed in China..
I ve seen a thread in my home's forum, and the key of RAM upgrade is that we must find a technical manual for Hermes' original RAM and the RAM series that will be supported by the mainboard. If u've done this and have got a RAM chip...do it.
Na, i've found the thread.
I'll translate them into English line by line
I placed a pic of Hermes' RAM in attachment.

Samsung K5D5657ACA-D0900
The K5D5657ACA is a Multi Chip Package Memory which combines 128Mbit Nand Flash Memory and 64Mbit synchronous high data rate Dynamic RAM. 128Mbit NAND Flash memory is organized as 16M x8 bits and 64Mbit SDRAM is organized as 1M x16 bits x4 banks. In 128Mbit NAND Flash, a 528-Byte page program can be typically achieved within 200us and an 16K-Byte block erase can be typically achieved within 2ms. In serial read operation, a byte can be read by 50ns. DQ pins serve as the ports for address and data input/output as well as command inputs. Even the write-intensive systems can take advantage of FLASH¢s extended reliability of 100K program/erase cycles with real time mapping-out algorithm. These algorithms have been implemented in many mass storage applications. In 64Mbit SDRAM, Synchronous design make a device controlled precisely with the use of system clock and I/O transactions are possible on every clock cycle. Range of operating frequencies, programmable burst length and programmable latencies allow the same device to be useful for a variety of high bandwidth, high performance memory system applications. The K5D5657ACA is suitable for use in data memory of mobile communication system to reduce not only mount area but also power consumption. This device is available in 107-ball FBGA Type.

is it possible to get the chip from other htc model?
i have a number of bricked htc himalayas, blueangel, even universal.
what about from hard drive? or computer ram?
Could you post the link of your home's forum here? Cause I am very interested in this upgrading for Hermes!
By the way, I can read simplified-Chinese!
Thanks in advance!

you may not read this thread until u've got ID.
Problem is, because this is an FBGA type chip, it's a PITA to remove and resolder. You really do need special tools for it.
Since TYTn II is the upgrade of CHT9000, could it be a reference?
Since TYTn II is the upgrade of CHT9000, could it be a reference?
I think we need to prepare at least three things:
1. We need to know if the design of the motherboard can support 128MB RAM;
2. We need to know which IC can be used in CHT9000;
3. We already have ROM that can support 128MB RAM.
I mention TYTn II is beacause we may get imformation from it about point 1 to point 3.
Suppose we can use the same chip that TyTn II is using, we can take a risk to do the upgrade.
BGA packaging is a royal arseache to try and do manually, infact im pretty sure its not possible using traditional methods, we are talking pick-n-place reflow soldering here, not using an iron.
I think, samsung processor cannot address more than 64 MB RAM.Some one posted this already in this forum. So as of now it is not possible
mission impossible

.. additionally it would be even harder to remove the RAM and FLASH MultiChipPackage from the Samsung MCU.
The picture shown above is the MCP for the radio chipset!!
Have a look at the detailed user manual.
... think wiki link to this manual does not work anymore???
P.S.: if someone's interested i may upload the manual

Dopod U1000 Processor speed low

My dopod U1000 processor speed is working at only 312Mhz. Its only half the rated speed of the processor. how can i set it to full speed? or its just at half speed when the device is at idle state when battery plugin shows processor speed? I can feel the screen generates very slowly. icons dont appear all at the same time when a window is opened. Please help. thanks.
How do you know it's running at 312Mhz?
I've read here that a certain tool (don't remember the name) incorrectly reports the speed at 312 when in fact the CPU is running full-speed. Supposedly this is confirmed on the web site for that tool. What are you using?
i believe he is using battery status and a old version. update to latest version and it should show correctly. i believe the old ones didnt want to report over 312mhz
Battery Status 0.05
Hi, thank you for your reply. Yes, im using an older version of batterystatus and its reporting 312 mhz. Where can get the new version? is there any version that can make the processor go faster? its a little slow when playing movies and listening to music gets affected when us send messages. thanks.
You can get the latest version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=270751
However, My display still shows a CPU speed of 312 MHz using the latest version. Does anybody have different results?

Overclocking

Anyone tried software-overclocking the Titan? Like using XCPUScalar? Or can the Titan even be overclocked?
Chimp (Tom)
unfortunately, it cannot be overclocked. I say unfortunately because i wish we had the option to do so. dschoenike
Have you try the neuPerformance app? It allows you to throttle your CPU between 520Mhz and 624Mhz. I have it on the later and notice a slight difference.
It can't be overclocked (at least not without someone writing a new app for its CPU). Sad to say any performance change you think you're noticing with neuPerformance is in your head.
What we need more than an overclocked CPU is a way to magically add more memory! LOL
So the Titan doesn't have an xscale CPU like the standard PocketPC models had? Otherwise I would think that something like xcpuscalar would be able to scale the processor speed...
And yes, I agree, WE NEED MORE RAM!!

Problems and Questions

Q: Can I overclock my Titan?
A: Possibly, but beyond Qualcomm's closed doors it's not known how. There are not yet any applications to overclock the Qualcomm 7x00 chipsets.

Athena upgrading with windows?

People is there a possibility to upgrade the athena with windows XP or 98?
Nope - WinXP and Win98 run on x86 processors, while the Athena has an ARM processor. Different architecture entirely (CISC vs RISC) - and don't try comparing the processor speeds either, they're not even in the same ballpark. I'd rate the 624MHz Athena processor about on par with a 32MHz 386SX (I've just dated myself!!). Having said that, I do recall someone actually successfully installing Win95 through an emulator, but it was slow as molasses and there were issues with inputs.
ok tnx for the info

[Q] Modding the cpu?

So i had just read in the hacking section about removing n soldering a new ram, they say that it's possible but nt practical.
So it hit me can we take the same cpu i.e, the ARMv6-compatible processer rev 5(v6l) n jus solder it ovr the existing cpu processer.
First of all, the cpu in your phone isn't a standalone cpu like in your computer. It's a system on a chip (SoC), which means it also contains the graphics chip, all the radio (GSM, 3G, WiFi, GPS) etc.
So IF you were able to get hold of a standalone SoC like that, you would need to have your kernel and all driver-modules changed to reflect the capabilities or that particular SoC.
I really doubt that there are upgrades to the SoC in your phone that are pin-compatible with what's in it now, all the connections on the mainboard are only designed to reflect the layout and capabilities of the original SoC.
Too many variables to even make it worth trying if you ask me
