XDA T-mob edition not booting...Help!!!! - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I have a t-mobile edition XDA ROM 4.02.02 (QTek) on a US version PW10B1. I am trying to use the 6.25 radio stack, and it won't boot. when it loads, it won't go past the boot screen. I don't want to downgrade and be stuck with PPC 2002. I know that I can go to OzUp 2003 (SE) and it will work, but what radio stack works for 2003 final so that it doesnt freeze up. when I try other radio stacks, it wont boot. I think I may have to downgrade to 2002 and reinstall RSU 4.16, and that doesnt bother me, but I want to upgrade to 2003. Anyone got any clues on this? I cant get the thing to boot and when it does if I hit the power button it stays off. I have to do a soft reboot to bring it back. If it goes into suspend mode, I get the same thing.

If you go into the bootloader, (hold power, arrow up, and reset), you should see something like Serial 1.01. If you put it in your USB cradle you should see USB 1.01. At that point you 'should' be able to run the upgrade again.
I ran into the same problem trying to downgrade my iMate from Radio 1.10.0 to 1.05.12, I don't think they like/let you downgrade the Radio.
Hope it helps
you are my hero it is flashing again. Thank you very much for your very fast response.

mod25,
I want to downgrade for T-Mobile 1.60.36 to 1.60, but I'm concerned abouth your post in regards to the Radio Stack not liking downgrades.
Did you have to upgrade again after you got the device working again? In other words was your downgrade not sucessful?

I TRIED EVERYTHING! ROM v. 1.72 Upgrade Radio Stack Problem

Hello,
I recently acquired an i-mate and before doing anything, decided to perform a ROM upgrade. It started with ROM version 1.66.00WWE and Radio version 1.10.00. I followed all the instructions on the clubimate website. The ROM upgrade (Step 1) went well, until I started the English Language customization (step 2). That program froze on my computer and left the i-mate in bootloader mode, even before starting the Extended ROM upgrade for the customizations. When trying to upgrade the main 1.72 ROM again, it gets stuck at the Radio Stack Upgrade (to version 1.14) at 14%, then either exits with no message (Win XP), or gives a Radio Stack Upgrade error message (Win 98 ME). The phone meanwhile says that it is perfuming the radio stack upgrade and to please wait. Waiting for an hour yielded no change. The following is the log file entries of the part for the Radio Stack upgrade:
03:06:42 Connection with USB
03:07:52 Begin Stage 4
03:08:22 Radio Erase retry 1
03:08:59 Radio Erase retry 2
03:09:15 Stage 4 Complete
03:09:15 Begin Stage 5
03:09:15 Write block1
03:09:26 Write block2
03:09:32 Write block3
03:10:08 Radio Update data retry 1
03:10:16 Write block4
03:10:24 Write block5
03:10:32 Write block6
03:10:40 Write block7
03:10:49 Write block8
03:11:25 Radio Update data retry 2
03:12:01 Radio Update data retry 3
I tried many times, but get the same result. I followed all advice on this forum and searched all over for solutions, from getting the device into bootloader mode (power button + action button + reset), making sure that my PC does not have any other USB device connected, that the only programs running are the upgrade utility and ActiveSync 3.7.1, etc.
I also notice it takes approx 1 hour from start of upgrade until the Radio Stack Upgrade, instead of the advertised 30 minutes. Someone mentioned that this Radio Stack Upgrade problem may be caused by a security feature on the Radio Stack ROM preventing the installation of older versions. However, I am installing the newest (ver 1.14), so this should not be a problem. With a hunch, I decided to try the English Language Customization (1.72.800) upgrade again, and the extended ROM upgrade worked, but still no Radio Stack. So now I ave everything upgraded, but a blank Radio Stack.
Now when performing a hard reset, I get the blue screen with "i-mate" written on it. In the bottom right only the version of the ROM "D 1.72.00 WWE" is shown, but it says "No GSM" right above it. It takes approx. 15 minutes to boot (with blue Bluetooth LED flashing), then goes through the screen alignment and intro procedure. After that, it installs customization and boots again. It takes another 15 minutes to boot and the phone functions only as a PDA. Even a soft reset takes 15 minutes (with Bluetooth LED flashing). I tried upgrading again after that, but no use. Going to "Device Information", I see the versions of ROM and Extended ROM, but the Radio and Protocol are blank.
I tried phased upgrading, where I would include the main ROM upgrade file into to the directory where the archive was extracted, then extended ROM, then radio stack. Everytime the radio stack upgrade failed (i.e. stuck at 14%), I would try to upgrade that part only, since all others upgraded successfully.
I am really out of options. Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks!
I asked Carrier Devices (clubimate) about this step 2 because on the official download page all I saw was the step 1, no step 2 and no link to download.
The answer I got was there is no english customization 800, only a beta. The customization or step2 would be presented for arabic or telstar etc based on your IMEI # not for english it is contained in the first .exe
So you MUST have got this 800 customization and maybe the main upgrade from on here because it was never on the offical download page. Only the BETA from the FTP which some hacked into on clubimate and posted on here.
Go to the official download page on clubimate (register if you havn't) and dowload the official .exe upgrade (one file) and see if it will run. Don't get it from here.
RUU172126WWE_imate.exe
Hard reset a couple times and that should be it. The upgrade does take a LONG time to do.
If that does not work, you might have to do a warranty repair, I would use the online chat support on clubimate, just watch for when they are online and ask. I don't think you can just flash the radio portion.
I find 1.72 VERY stable and fast. Good luck!
Hmm.. All files were downloaded from the official clubimate website (I had to register in order to download). Talking to customer support, they were aware of the Step 2 customization file on their site (they recommended it, too). I doubt I downloaded hacked ones.
Still a loss on what to do, other than take it to a service center, that is (anybody do that? was it expensive? took too long?).
I tried a suggestion where I extracted the Radio Stack ROM upgrade file from version 1.66 and installing it separately. Still stops at 14%. I also tried a full reflash back to 1.66, but also same result. Took it to an i-mate service center nearby, was surprised that they didn't even know how to put the i-mate into bootloader mode (I had to show them)! All they could do was try reflashing using the same utilities we use (still no luck). They said that anything more elaborate would require sending it to Dubai. So much for "service" center. So, no luck there, either.
Also tried to reflash to the orginal 1.00 ROM with 1.05 Radio: The upgrade utilitiy that came with that version won't go past the small "please wait...." screen. Just sits there.
Really sad. I didn't even use this phone (figured that the best start is to perform a ROM upgrade). I'm not that impressed with how fragile ROM upgrading is (and I am careful with using only official releases). I thought after the Wallaby, things would be more robust. Maybe I shold dump this thing and get an HP h6300 series.
Note that I managed to successfully upgrade to 1.72 at least once. It was only when trying the 1.72.800 customization did things start to go south.
Also, does it matter whether the SIM card is in the phone or not while upgrading? Instructions are not clear, although they did mention that the phone will behave as if it is out of area.
Another question (desperate and a long shot, maybe stupid), Do SIM cards from say T-Mobile have an effect on i-mate phone Radio Stack ROM (i.e. lock it, etc.?)
ANY help would be appreciated!
i-mate and bootloader
I just got to see the problem as I am going through the same search for answer. How to get to the stage of bootloader? Somehow I feel that the device has crashed: While I was trying to install the upgrade RUU172126WWE_imate, my laptop, and for some odd reason, shut itself down, then auto restarted. The i-mate from that point on did not respond and in fact all lights on the device went blackout. I tried soft and hard resets but to no avail. I even removed the battery for several hours and when I re-installed it, all what it gave me was the word i-mate (but no backlight). Any advise on how I can get the device functional again.
Thank you.
Put your device in bootloader (press the Jog button and the Power button at same time and press the reset switch). Place it in the cradle and re-run the upgrade. That should work OK.
Jog
Thanks for the quick reply.
Power and reset button I know, but I am not familiar with the Jog button on the i-mate (Pocket PC PE). Appreicate your help.
Its the multi-directional button in the middle at the bottom. Press it straight down.

ActiveSync doesn't work
I can't downgrade to WM SE because ActiveSync does not work
I could downgrade using bootloader mode nevertheless ActiveSync did not connect my device.
I have uninstalled AS 4.0 and installed AS 3.8, but it doesn't work! I can connect my XDA II. Could you tell me what is the reason?
Yazzon,
I have downgraded without any issues. A matter of fact, I kept Active Sync 4.0 instead of going back to 3.8
What is the issue with Active Sync, have you tried uninstall and reinstall? Which version of Active Sync are you using?
I've reinstalled AS versions: 3.7, 3.8, 3.8 - Polish. After reinstallation, when I cradle my device, AS connect XDA II but I can't explore device and I can't synchronize. I reinstalled AS many times but no results.
In order to return from wm2005 to wm2003se I used himaupgradeut_197.exe in bootloader mode and the original file nk.nbf of wm2003. To me he worked to me.
I used activesync 4.0.0.
Also it is possible to install wm2005 again using himaupgradeut_197.exe.
Please Help me! Can't downgrade!!!!
I tried: himaupgradeut_197.exe in Serial Mode
I tried: hard reset. Didn't really do anything
What did I do wrong. Always get a connection error... 101
Please Help!
In order to upgrade to 2005, you have used himaupgradeut_197.exe?
ive downgraded by puting it 2 boot loader mode and then put it in the cradle (with AC 4.0) and then run the HimaUpgradeUt.exe from my rom.
and it was 2003se again
Downgraded from WM2005 to 2.20
 I downgraded from WM2005 to 2.20 without any problems .
Extended ROM sill working .
And I am keeping ActivSync 4 becouse giving me no problems .
By the way ... My ActiveSync 4 Build 4328 .
Is it the latest one ?
I think the key to a sucessful downgrade from WM2005 is to keep AS 4.0 on the machine while you have WM2005 on your PPC. After the downgrade you can go back to AS 3.8. In my case I decided to keep it .
However I ran into one issue with AS 4.0 after the downgrade. After installing MS Voice Command 1.01, I tried to upgrade to MS Voice Command 1.5 and it keeps complaining about not being able to find previous versions. I went to another machine with AS 3.8 and tried the same thing with the same files and I had no issues.
Nonetheless I am keeping AS 4.0 until I run into something I don't have a workaround.
I got AS 4.0. I did not upgrade with..._197.exe. I did it with some other.
Maybee someone can give me a link to a clean 2003se without any nicknack? Maybee that works. Used the aussie version. To downgrade.
Thanks in advance.
Upgrade WM2005 with bootloader v. 1.06
Hi all!
Has there anyone upgrading to wm2005 with bootloader version 1.06? Thought of trying it too, just that afraid can't downgrade to wm 2003 SE. Coz I'm aware of dcs threads, with bootloader version 1.06 it isn't likely to downgrade from wm 2003 se to a normal ppc 2003(of which is of the original rom). Hope to hear inputs. thanks.

From which Rom version are you trying to downgrade? What is your bootloader version?
Downgrade to WM 2003 SE
To those having problems in downgrading, this might help...
I was just trying out of the thrill for the new wm 2005. Before that my previous Rom version was WM2003 SE. Flashing to wm 2005 was rather smooth sailing; there isn't any hindrances like country id error code and so forth.
Thanks for those threads from the geekz here like softworkz, xda2jojo, dewild1(who's been reincarnate into a new creature at xda-developers ), and other geekz who's involved in this so called immature(by MS) project. I was literally read their threads and get the ideas from it.
Was initially excited on the new OS, but when I start to touch on it, oh well, it's too good to be true... Nah not to critize much of this... The bottom line, it's a total new looks and new sounds, especially on the click at the start menu, I kinda like that new sound... Good interface but it has lots of buts...; camera button wasn't bound, so when click on camera button is just like a dummy button...
While I'm typing this, my downgrade process is still working at the background, so I pretty much believe that it gona work as it still does the process, so confidently would want to contribute what I did to downgrade.
1) Sit back relax, don't panick = it doesn't/will never bring to solution. Take a deep breath and always feel with hope
2) All you need is to be able to get the device into bootloader mode, my bootloader version is 1.06, so wouldn't be sure if it works on other version, hopefully yes.
3) During the bootloader mode, dock your xda 2 onto the cradle, and get ready of your previous Rom files, double click on HimaUpgradeUt.exe and just wait for it to start doing the magicX...
I hope I didn't misss any step here, even if I did, please excuse me, coz i'm just a newbie hehe....
Ok hopes of getting back your xda 2 alive is yet to process, just fireaway

go to bootloader b/4 you put your device into cradle
Weeeeeell -
i have no clue why! but I managed to get it running.
I just inserted into the cradle and it worked!
Sometimes you just have to go to bed and try it the next morning
Only thing I did was to pull out the Battery over night... Maybee that did something.
Just for Info:
Bootloader V1.02
ROM : Can't See is just upgrading @ moment.
Btw: The good thing about Wm2005 it is working even if you have no energy anymore... No data will be lost. The Bad thing you lose 128 megs of Ram...
i suggest 2 read this:

How to go back to 1.6.10

Hey guys,
I attempted to go back to 1.6.10 and without any success.
Ended up getting stuck at the HTC screen.
Had to reload 2.0.0
I am trying to go back to the last version which didn't have any
audio driver problems and allowed me to use the FM transmitter.
It's more important for me than the GPS, plus I like the Threaded SMS cab better than 6.1.
If the official version will have the normal drivers than I will upgrade.
Thanks for helping me go back to 1.6.10 - i need some suggestions.
Start at post #623 in the 1.6.10 thread.
here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1920135#post1920135
1st, Get the SPL unlocker 1.20 and overwrite your SPL 2.40 with it.
Next, Get the 1.40 Radio ROM and overwrite your current Radio ROM.
Finally, Update to DCD 1.6.10 ROM.
If your device freezes at the splash(logo) screen.. Press and hold POWER, CAMERA and RESET buttons. It will take you back to boot loading screen (tri-color display).
If you get stuck at the boot loading screen.. Get the Titan_Exitbl.exe.
Make sure you disabled the USB connection in the ActiveSync, before you launch the Titan_ExitBl.exe.
Thanks.
Thanks guys for the quick replies.

reverting to AP3 after failed AP4 upgrade --> customization reset loop

My first attempt to upgrade to AP4 did not succeed unfortunately (SPL to 3.50 upgrade went OK though), my power light stayed green and the display wouldn't come on.
So I took the Athena into bootloader and re-flashed back to AP3.
All seemed fine, the "Tap the screen to set up your device" screen appeared, I set it up and let the customization program run.
Unfortunately after the automatic reset at the end of the customization program, the device returned to the "Tap the screen to set up your device" and the customization program started again...
I tried interrupting the customization by soft resetting before it started executing itself, soft resetted during customization, let customization finish again (and again), but the device seems to be in an endless loop....
Any suggestions/help?
Thanks a lot in advance!
this happen because the spl and the kernel, AKA nk.exe, do not match. not sure what to do except try the new ap3 the cmonex posted **not sure if you tried that**
try the 3.0 cmonex posted and enjoy.
solved!
Thanks irus & Pawel062 (and cmonex!), that did the trick!
Probably not a bad idea to advise anybody who needs downgrading from AP4 to AP3 to use that rom. Download it from http://htc-hackers.com/uploads/ap3newspl.zip
See cmonex' thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386604
***great Information!***
HEY ALL,
I WAS ALSO HAVING SOME ISSUES VERY SIMILAR TO THESE WHILE TRYING TO "DOWNGRADE" TO ANY ROM FROM AP 4.0. THIS IS GREAT INFO AS I BUILD MY OWN ROMS CONSTANTLY, SO I WAS A BIT WORRIED WHEN I COULDNT SWITCH AFTER TRYING AP 4.O, BUT THANKS TO CMONEX, IRUS, & PAWEL062, WE CAN DOWNGRADE A BIT EASIER!
THANKS AGAIN!

just flash it with normal RUU
I have this problem of the "looping" with the customizations. My problem is that I can't get the device to a state where it is "talking" to activesync and from what I see, I need that to push this ap3spl new file.
When you say "just flash it with normal RUU" can you tell me what that means please? (sorry, noob here...) I've spent hours on the forums, wiki etc and I'm a bit lost.
I'm "trying" to get AP4 w/WM6.1 onto the device.
Purchased unlocked (new) and used on AT&T for 6 months.
Went to update the radio to 1.57 and used the unlocker first. (took out SIM/SD first of course).
Got past step one and then got a black screen on reboot...
I got AP3 to load but now I get this fun looping.. Setup device, load customizations, reboot, and start over.
Sounds like this file in this thread is my fix to at least get AP3 working but not sure how to apply. Can I do it from the bootloader?
thanks in advance for putting up with me
Oh yeah:
My current state:
ATHE100
IPL - v2.02
ATHE100 MFG
SPL -v3.50 OliNex
Eureka!
Ok, I'm not a COMPLETE noob.. (close). I'm up and running. AP3 (new spl) loaded, then loaded AP4. Woo Hoo!
No GPS
Well, I guess I'm "Almost" back up and running.
Since step three never got kicked off, it looks like my GPS rom/radio never was rewritten back to the device.
Any help on how to get just the GPS portion back?
Endless loop after flashing AP4
I have a similar problem. My Dopod U1000 was running WM6 and I upgraded to
radio version 1.58.00 no problem. After flashing AP4 I am in a cycle where my initial boot screen has black and white lines at the top and black at the bottom
Then get the Windows Mobile 6.1 screen and after automatic customizing the
PDA resets itself. I have tried to flash the AP3newspl file but it cant communicate successfully with the synced PDA. Any help?

Thanks lakeman. I reinstalled WM6 ROM from the boot loader.
My IPL v1.00 and SPL v1.20. Olipro and Radio 1.58
I have transferred enblerapi.cab to PDA and run it each time but when I flash
AP4 ROM or AP3newspl ROM I get an endless loop and my SPL stays v1.20
I cant seem to get a flash of SPL3.5 which I suspect is the problem.
Am I missing something?
