:?: Is there anything to stop me buying a T-Mobile MDA in the US and putting a UK simm card into it (bar unlocking the MDA - i assume it's locked) ?
Just wondering..
O2 seems rather expensive to me!
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong!
The answer is nobody is exactly sure. The bandswitch and unlocking tools provided on this site in theory should make this possible, but nobody has actually tried and tested this yet to confirm how fuctional it is.
In my opinion though if you live in the UK, as I do, you are probably better off buying a machine designed for the UK networks and paying the bit extra, as we do on almost everyting it seems.
You can get the 32mb versions very cheap now on contract anyway.
yep it does work
I bought a t-mobile MDA from ebay and been happily using it on O2 since Jan.
It'll only connect to O2 & Vodafone, I used a serial cable to unlock it.
Hiya,
I've has organised myself a new XDA 2, does anyone know if these can be unlocked to any network like the original XDA?
Regards,
Chris
Now that the XDA II is to sale, I hope it will be possible very soon to unlock it  , a friend will bought one for me in UK , and I need to have it simfree ...to use it, unless that, it will be a PPC Phone Edition, with no phone !
Unlocking

Unlocking from O2
Hi,
What number at O2 did you call to unlock the phone and what excuse did you you use?
Thanks,
K
no excuse...just asked for the unlocking code..and they charged me £15
Hi, do you have the number? I checked in 3 shops and they claimed no unlocking options for 12 months... :?
Unlocking
Called O2 and they said they would unlock it... however they didnt give me an unlocking code... they said they will take care of things for me.
Can they do it from their side? I thought I was suppose to enter some code to unlock the device or at least thats what I have done in the past with an Ericsson phone I had...
Can someone help? dont want them charging me for nothing...
K
Number is
08702 410 202
Option 0
they need to give u a code which you need to enter once u put a non o2 sim card in the xda2
Or run SimLock.exe (hidden file in Windows directory)
Out of interest, what was your unlock code?
No luck... O2 wont unlock because its a new contract... Didnt like their attitude might take the phone back tomorrow...
Mine is a new contract & "Darren" in Warrington definately said to me that they would unlock on payment of £15 and my whole year's contract in advance. He checked with his manager & that was confirmed.
Ring 'em back. They are being totally inconsistent.
my xda is on a three month old contract and they gave me the unlock code without any fuss
Every 1 in O2 sing a different song!
When I bought my XDA 1 I paid O2 £15 to unlatch it so I could use it on any network. So when I upgraded (over the phone with O2) to the XDA2 I told them I wanted that unlatched too.
No problem, they said, just call customer services when it arrives.
After being given many different stories by O2 they finally gave me the unlatching code.
The problem is that when I entered it the phone rejected it every time although O2 checked the IMEI number several times.
Finally they tell me that they have an arrangement with HTC (The manufacturers) not to allow the unlatching of the XDA2 to any network other than O2!!!
It would have been nice if O2 staff had been advised of that and not told me there would be no problem and then given me a code that doesn't work!!
I have sold my XDA 1 and bought accessories for the XDA 2 so I am now out of pocket and fully intend writing to O2 claiming I have been mis-sold. That is, unless anyone out there knows how to unlock the phone so the unlatching code works ??
I shall persevere with hassling O2 until I get it unlocked though I cannot see how any of you out there have managed this when O2 staff have so adamantly informed me that they simply cannot and will not be unlocking the XDA2 for any but O2 network until next year!! :x :x
it may be that the staff who i spoke to were not aware of this policy and just treated like any other handset...i am not even using my o2 sim card but using it on t-mobile and vodaphone.
i have read all the responses on this page and the sim lock exe has been metioned but what does this programe do i would love to know
Please, xda-developers , can you find a way to desimlock XDA II ???
I was suppose to receive my unlock code , paying 15£ to O2 , and 650 £ full price with no contract ; IMEI and bill have been sent by O2 store to the Central stuff, but now, they said , no more unlock !!!
So that means, as I leave in France, that I can use my XDA II only like normal PPC and not PPC Phone , and that I will have to buy a phone !!!
Simlock.exe is the program that runs when you have a SIM inserted that is not belonging to O2 - asks you for the unlock code.
Alternatively can be run as standalone exe for the same purpose.
rustek/tenzin
They cannot legally NOT allow you to unlock the phone if you request it. It is against OFTEL regulations in this country. If they persist, just mention that to them, further non-cooperation, ring OFTEL and get them to intervene - the "watchdog" is there for our benefit.
does anyone know if this is possible? I want to use this phone in my car after strictly for mp3 playback, and possible gps use (serial connection only option).
thanks, a newbie

I have a t-mobile wm2003 phone edition
with expired one year contract.
t-mobile coverage not good enough in a car for data in southern ca.
going back to sprint.
phone only fetches 100$ on ebay because it is too similar to the previous rendition from t-mobile.
it is a wallaby 1.5 (upgraded rom to wm2003, instead of pocketpc 2002)
I Want to use KSE truefax on my xdaII but the web site says I need ROM 1.72.01 (Radio-version 1.17).
Mine is ROM 1.66.00 radio 1.08.00.
Im worried that if anything goes wrong with updating it I will end up with a worthless piece of plastic.
Is updating the rom safe?
Fax software
I had a similiar problem on my T-mobile MDA PRO.
KSE does not support the modem in the device yet, or WM 5.
Gave up trying to send, tried a few other trial versions of various s/w no joy.
Going to sell my MDA PRO after 6 weeks I find I can not do that much with it and magician /compact. Hope to raise 450 quid.
It is a large 3G brick crying out for applications and purpose.
Lucky for me T-mobile gave me MDA PRO free of charge to settle a dispute where they had made a big mistake.
I need to replace my brick'd TyTN today. I'm traveling for business next week and need a device. I like the look of the JASJAM and 8525 better than the TyTN, but I'm not sure which model I should buy. I would just buy the 8525 from Cingular, but it doesn't look like it will be out within a few days, as was originally promised. With all the models of the Hermes out there, which would you prefer if you were buying again? Thanks
BTW...my current TyTN will be off to Germany for repairs. I'll probably Ebay one or the other, or give it to my Dad, when it gets back from its repair journey.
Are you travelling in or out of the country?
I'm staying in the country for this trip
Well, the hardware issues (inoperative flash, bad keys, SA) on the TyTN seem to be worked out. No US operators officially carry the HERMES yet however so overseas repairs are going to be an issue.
Mu thoughts would be to get another TyTN and sell the repaired one on eBay when you get it back... Or keep it for a TyTN experimental mule. Maybe HTC will put in the SA fix too as a matter of course on your old one.
Heck, can we even get operator branded HERMES devices here?
I hear ya...I'm going to ship it next week and see what happens. In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can get a decent price on the JASJAM, as I do like the look a bit better.
Thanks!
