Problem: NO GSM when booting - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I have Xda Trion Herm100 and in Hermes_Upgrade Problems i saw my problem solution:
Problem 5: Device shows NO GSM when booting
* The radio stack is screwed, you don't get GSM signal and the phone says unknown SIM status
* Device won't start after trying to unlock it with HTC Universal Unlocker (HTC_Uni_SIM_Unlock_v1)
Here is how to fix it:
1. Disable activesync on your computer by right click on activesync icon -> connection settings -> uncheck "allow USB connections".
2. Put your Hermes in bootloader mode
3. Connect device to computer using USB cable.
4. Open mtty.exe and select USB port, then connect.
5. Hit enter twice, you will see the "USB>" prompt.
6.
Type the following commands (do not copy paste!!!)
USB> password 0000000000000000
USB> set 1e 1
USB> erase a0040000 c80000
USB> erase a0cc0000 c80000
USB> erase a1940000 640000
USB> set 1e 0
7. Reset your phone and put it back in bootloader mode
8. If your bootloader version is different than 1.04 then Flash Bootloader version 1.04
9. Flash the patched radio used to simunlock the Hermes
10. Your phone should be alive again

and i was so happy, but on step 6 i can`t understand when i`m writing the first row " USB> password 0000000000000000" and hit Enter it is show "HTCSPass1.CM€ЛHTCEUSB>"
and i`m thinking is on that row i must write " USB> set 1e 1" or i must hit Enter to show me new "USB>" and then write " USB> set 1e 1" ( Here is the log
USB>password 0000000000000000

HTCST ЪИТHTCEUSB>
USB>erase a1940000 640000

USB>set 1e 0 )
and finnaly when i write "USB> set 1e 0" must hit any of the buttons or only close the programm ( is there any button to save these rows on the Xda device or it is automatic )
then in bootloader mode there are 2 text ..
One in white colour
"Herm100
IPL-1.01"
and one in yellow colour
"Herm100
SPL-1.06"
which of them is my bootloader version, and if 1.06 is my bootloader please tell me how to flash with bootloader 1.04 and at last
"9. Flash the patched radio used to simunlock the Hermes"
where is this Patched Radio ...
thank you in advice

It should show you "Pass1" encapsulated in HTCS-HTCE block. Otherwise somthing is not going ok. You don't have to type "USB>" this is the prompt from bootloader.

It doesn't matter, you can write it on this row or hit Enter and write it on a new row.

You can safely close mtty when finished, each command is executed on the device after you hit enter, no need to save or anything.

If your CID is O2___102, yes. But most probably you have a corrupted CID, I can't say for sure because you did not provide any USB monitor capture as advised on the wiki upgrading problems.

1st thing RomUpgradeUt does is killing activesync and put device in bootloader mode... you don't need activesync to do a rom upgrade, you can start it from bootloader.

This almost confirms that your CID got corrupted... you'll probably need to send the device to service centre.

This has also happened to me, and I've tried everything to recover my device. There seems to be no way to fix this problem but to replace the main board.
The only other possibility is to cook a rom (which is far far away) and skip the CID check.
pof -> I'm still waiting for the fix.. hehe

I guess it is not needed to replace the main board, in the service centre they should fix this with a special sd card.

the CID check is done in bootloader, a cooked ROM (which is not that far away) will not help: The ROM can be cooked and the CID set to whatever value you like, the problem is that it can't be signed with the proper keys, so you have a ROM "matching" the corrupted CID but if it's not signed you can't flash it.

If you or somebody else want to send me a cid-corrupted device i'll be glad to investigate, otherwise is very difficult that I can know how to fix this without physical access to the bricked device...

Can't boot after trying to unlock SPV M3100 with HTC Universal unlocker

Have tried all sorts and still cannot boot after using the wrong sim unlock.
Have tried doing hard reset and then soft reset instead of spacebar, it still did not boot.
MTTY command set 14 0 and soft reset made no difference.
Tried the SD card method but it didn't work as Orange have not relesed an ugrade yet (Jan 2007 I've heard) CID is ORANG001.
Trying to reflash with any other ROM I either get connetion error or non compatability error. Using USB Monitor shows no results although MTTY commands do show up.
Is there any way I can reflash with original ROM? I have access to a locked SPV M3100, could this help in any way?
When phone tries to boot it shows:
M05
S04
B05
No GSM
D 1.23
I know the radio part is screwed and have tried to flash radio only, nothing happened and nothing showed in USB Monitor.
Even tried method used by Kimbay http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280228 this also had no effect.
Hoping someone somewhere can help, I know quite a few people are in the same situation and if a solution can be found will help others if I can.
Thanks to pof who has already given me some advice, sadly none of it worked.
I have a similar problem as you, and i have tried everything, my last test will be when I get an original rom for my device that matches my CID.
There is no date for my original rom to be delivered so I have to wait.

Its not a big problem as I have 2 tytn, one to play and one for proper use.

Didn't work for me in one time too, had to reset both my phone and my pc for it.
After which step do you get the white screen ?
You could try this ROM:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Himalaya/ROM166/RUU166223WWE.exe
Use it til just after the erasing part of the upgrade.
You have bootloader 1.04 ? Otherwise this method doesn't work

Tried above method, results below:
1. Welcome to the Pocket PC software upgrade utility.
2. Checking the information on your pocket PC... Please wait...
SCREEN GOES WHITE AT THIS STAGE
3. update screen:
CE image version 1.66.00
Extended image version 1.66.223
Radio image version 1.10.00
4. Checking
5. The current sofware is being erased from your Pocket PC.
Even if left for over an hour this stays at 0%
I got the same results with RUU120_172125_Qtek_WWE_R11400_Shipping but obviously the update screen shows different CE Image Version etc.
Sorry for the lengthy reply but wanted to show as much info as possible. Have tried both ROMs many times and hangs at the same stage every time.

Can you do a full USB monitor caputre of the process when trying to put the Himalaya ROM? I explained how to do it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1036494&postcount=4
If we don't know 'what goes on through the USB cable' we will not be able to understand why the problem is fixed using this method, and what prevents the erase proces to end in your case.
There are two erase commands in Hermes bootloader 'erase' and 'rerase' (for radio) which take an address and a length as arguments. If you look at what the upgrade tries to do, you can do it manually after from the bootloader.
Hi pof
This is what was captured with USB Monitor, the first is RUU166223WWE
the second is from RUU120_172125_Qtek_WWE_R11400_Shipping
In both cases nothing seemed to show up after the screen which says: The current software is being erased from your Pocket PC - it just hangs at 0% no matter how long it is left.
Not sure which Himalaya ROM you meant so have posted the results from these two for now. Please advise which Himalaya ROM should be run.

The Himalaya ROMs you used are OK, both files show the same output. These are the commands sent to bootloader and my explanation of the process:
Code:
USB> USBPortTest
Command error !!!
This should be Himalay specific, not working on the Hermes bootloader, so it says "command error".
Code:
USB> info 0
USB> info 1
On the Himalaya, "info 0" returns platfrom name (16 bytes) and "info 1" returns bootloader version (16 bytes). On the Hermes these commands return nothing (no output).
Code:
USB> password 0000000000000000
HTCSPass1..CM??HTCE
Himalaya RUU sends "password 0000000000000000", on the hermes this password is dynamic and the RUU should issue "info 3" command first to calculate the password, but as "info 3" has not been issued yet the Hermes bootloader returns Pass1 encapsulated in HTCS/HTCE block, which is the output when the password is valid!!!
Code:
USB> set 1 0
USB> set 6 ffff
USB> set 2 1
USB> set 5 F800
These commands are the same in the Himalaya and in the Hermes:
- "set 1 0" sets the operation mode to user which makes the other commands return more friendly values
- "set 6 ffff" changes the screen color to FFFF
- "set 2 1" change back color on
- "set 5 f800" changes background color to F800
Code:
USB> info 2
This should return the CID on the Hermes, but it does not ... I don't know what it does on Himalaya. As I see no output from your Hermes here, I guess the proces has already stopped, so the following commands sent by the RUU will not work.
Code:
USB> set 1e 1
This unlocks the read/write flag, should be always done before flashing. (when the flash process ends, it should be done the oposite: "set 1e 0").
Code:
USB> rbmc Temp.txt 70010000 28
This reads 28 bytes of memory starting from addres 0x70010000 and saves the read data to Temp.txt file.
I don't know what there is on this memory address (anyone?), but I guess it's himalaya's specific.
The "juicy" commands will come after this one, but your hermes doesn't seem to pass from here. Luckily I found on buzzdev.net the Himalaya upgrading process, which shows exactly the same process as I can see in your attached files, so the following that should come here if your Hermes was still alive is this:
Code:
USB> erase a0040000 c80000
USB> erase a0cc0000 c80000
USB> erase a1940000 640000
USB> set 1e 1
USB> wdata a0040000 20000
The last 'wdata' command will not work on the hermes (it uses 'wdatah' instead) so nothing is written on the rom, just erased.
CONCLUSION:
If you feel brave, and always at your own risk, what you should do to fix your bricked hermes with screwed radio is this:
1) Put your Hermes in bootloader mode
2) Disable USB connections in ActiveSync
3) Open mtty.exe and select USB port, then connect.
4) Hit enter twice, you will see the "USB>" prompt.
5) Type the following commands (do not copy paste!!!):
Code:
set 1e 1
erase a0040000 c80000
erase a0cc0000 c80000
erase a1940000 640000
set 1e 0
6) Reset your phone and put it back in bootloader mode
7) Flash the Hermes rom of your choice (if your bootloader is 1.06 it MUST match your CID, if it's 1.04 it isn't important)
Good luck and let us know how it goes!
I think you will need to authenticate to the bootloader before issuing the "erase" commands, otherwise the bootloader won't let you erase.
When you are on "step 5" of the process I described before, if you get an error when issuing the first "erase" command try these commands instead:
First try to use the "Himalaya" method, as it worked for some people:
- in step 5, use these commands:
Code:
password 0000000000000000
set 1e 1
erase a0040000 c80000
erase a0cc0000 c80000
erase a1940000 640000
set 1e 0
If it doesn't let you erase, then you'll have to authenticate to bootloader using the dynamic password.
The attached file will try to authenticate to the bootloader for you, so you don't need to go through all the process described in this PDF, which is a bit tedious. It should be run before you actually open mtty on step 3, when it authenticates sucessfully it should show the message "Entered advanced bootloader", when you see it you can open mtty and follow the next steps. Probably it doesn't work at first try and you have to run TryBootloader.exe several times before it acctually successfully authenticates to the bootloader, but it's better than the process in the pdf
Once you're actually authenticated correctly with TryBootloader.exe, just run the commands in mtty as in step 5, do not use the "password" command again.
Let me know if something is unclear or you need more help.
Yipee, It's back to life, please see new post

Stuck on 5% - URGENT

Hello everybody - can anyone help me at this moment. I am right now sitting with my Hermes connected through USB. I was flashing the standard ROM with RUU_HERMES_HTC_WWE_1[1].35.255.2_1.35.255.102_1.08.00.10_SHIP. Unfortunately it stopped at 5% some half an hour ago. I prefer to ask you before disconnecting it. Please help!!!!!!!!!
OK, having no answer I decided to disconnect it and look for an answer. Now I know that I have a 1000 USD brick and no possibility to put it back to work.
I now suspect that the upgrade did not work properly because my device had a CID lock. That is quite strange however, because I bought it on the open market without any commitment to any GSM operator.
I am now stuck on the tricolor bootloader screen with SPL 1,09.
Basing on the post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285157 - especially on the lines:
"1.09
You can't downgrade to bootloader 1.04 by flashing a Shipped ROM. However imei-check.co.uk is able to downgrade the bootloader.
There was a solution posted on this forum, but it was stolen from imei-check and was removed. If you are not willing to pay you have to wait until another solution is developed.
The RadioROM can't be upgraded. You have to downgrade to bootloader 1.04 to unlock your device.", despite seeing info on the website, I paid to imei-check the 20 pounds.
So far I only lost money, time and nerves trying to downgrade or "repair" my hermes. Nothing works. If anybody has any suggestions please share on the forum or PM me.
BTW I started the whole process with SPL 1,04.
Sounds to me like a flaky USB port which is why it stopped at 5%. Try another port in the rear of your PC and re-flash. Be sure to follow the mantra:
Windows XP, screensaver, powersave disabled
No other programs running.
i had a similar problem probably with the flaky usb port as Sleuth255 mentioned. trying with a different pc is another option if you have one and that was what i did with success.
im not sure about the hermes.. but i know on the wizard as long as you could get to the bootloader screen (the RGB screen) that your device isnt bricked yet.. i would follow the other suggestions about usb ports and using different pc's, i bet you can make your $1k work for you again
Try:
Go into bootloader by pressing down both the POWER button and SIDE OK together and using the stylus at the same time to press the RESET button at the bottom.
Make sure you have disabled the USB connection in ActiveSync, before trying to connect to the bootloader:
File --> Connection settings --> uncheck "allow USB connections"
Connect your USB-Cable
Download mtty.exe. Start it and connect to USB
When you see "USB>" Type "info 2". You should get: "HTCS" + CID + (4-byte checksum) + "HTCE". Remeber what CID you have.
Look for a Shipped ROM that matches your CID
Download and flash it using a different USB-Port or PC than the last time
Afterwards you will be able to use the file that you got from imei-check. The imei-check downgrader/unlocker only works if you've got a working operating system on your device.
After typing "info 2" in mtty.exe I get the following line
HTCSF kEŘ(HTCEUSB>
Which of those is the CID? I cannot find any matching one in the Wiki.
corrupted CID by wrong flash.
OK, I have now the confirmation of the diagnosis - as I was suspecting.
Can I now have some help in the solution?
Some people succeded with the method described as "problem 5" here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems
but some others don't succeed and have a brick. Try the steps on the wiki, if you are not able to fix it this way, send it to repair centre.
Following the steps from point 5 of the given website, I only get the following lines:
USB>password 0000000000000000
HTCSPass1.CMˆËHTCEUSB>
USB>set le 1
USB>erase a0040000 c80000
HTCST ÚČŇHTCEUSB>
USB>erase a0cc0000 c80000
HTCST ÚČŇHTCEUSB>
USB>erase a1940000 640000
HTCST ÚČŇHTCEUSB>
USB>set le 0
USB>
Unfortunatelly nothing changes.

Your bootloader is 1.09 and you'll not be able to flash anything because the CID will not match. Send it to service centre.

Your phone is not trashed, but there is no rom matching your CID yet. You should have cid unlocked it before flashing a rom with BL 1.06.
Try to boot OS again using "set 14 0" (see wiki, "problem 4"), if that doesn't fix it (chances are it will not), then wait until orange releases a rom upgrade with CID "ORANG001".
I've try the procedure "Problem 4" but after "write nand success" and sr it don't start. My cid is always ORANG001 with spl-1.06

Dead Hermes after install XDA Live!!!

According to the problem of "Invalid Vendor ID" when trying to restore the original rom that i mentioned the topic 'XDA Live report'. I really wanna know to sovle this problem.I did update rom 'RUU_HERMES_HTC_WWE_1[1].35.255.2_1.35.255.102_1.08.00.10_SHIP.EXE' afte that i updated my dopod 838 pro to Rom ' XDA Live' for a few day. I want to use the original rom 'HER_DopodAsia_1237074_1060010_WWE_SHIP.exe' then i updated my hermes to the HER_DopodAsia_1237074_1060010_WWE_SHIP.exe.Then reset my dopod 838 pro. I saw the first screen 'No gsm' and stop everything at the welcome screen. So i tried to fix the problem as the wiki 's suggestion by pressing button 'OK' and Power together with reset by stylus for enter the tri colour for updating but the big problem is that my dopod 838 pro can't connect to computer. The icon 'synconize' at the task bar shown gray colour not green colour !!!!
What should i do now ? Pls Help me !!!
Does your device show USB at the bottom of the tri-colored screen when connected to your PC?
It shown USB at the bottom!!
can your phone boot? not into bootloader mode but into the normal mode
can't boot normally..stop at the welcome screen
I had the same problem when I had the Cingular 2.06 ROM and wanted to put back again SA 1.35 ROM...for the exception I was stacked in Bootloader. I get the "Invalid vendor" error and instead of ran the upgrade again I disconnected my device...and from that moment stacked in bootloader and grey icon in windows...But I managed to unbrick my device by putting on again the ROM I have before I have tried to upgrade...so I had to put on again the Cingular 2.06 ROM and it works for me (or I was just lucky)...but believe me...it was 3 hours of fear & suffer...
Hope you will be able to unbrick your device...
Regards,
Primoz
Is there any rom which can unlock this error? There is a lot of rom at wiki.I don't know the previous rom that i had before ....
...I assume you have the original ROM on your device...or you have made some other ROM updates before?...if you have a Cingular put the latest Cingular ROM...if you have a HTC (original) device put the last HTC ROM...and so on...I hope this could help you...

type: task 32
then type: info 2
before running mtty.exe uncheck "Allow USB connection" in the connection settings of Activesync...
When you will try to update don`t forget to check again "Allow USB connection"!

Downgrading to 1.04

Hi all,
I know this has been asked and answered lots of times, I have read all the wiki posts I could find, but still I'm not 100% sure that I understand correctly, hence this question.
I have a Dopod 838 Pro (Hermes) which I have SuperCID'ed and loaded with bootloader 1.09.
My ppc gets stuck on the windows mobile screen, and in addition I can see in the HTC subsplash screen the "NO GSM" indicator for a flick of a second.
I can go into bootloader and connect with mtty.
In another thread (and also in the wiki), it is suggested that the only way to get my machine back, is first to downgrade to SPL 1.04, and the only way to do this since I'm at 1.09 and no windows, is to purchase the IMEI-CHECK tool .
Am I correct in understanding this? or is there another way?
Thanks for any and all help.
Chris
No, I think you quit reading a bit soon.
With the new unlocker v3 and Des' SSPL flashing method, you no longer need to downgrade from 1.09 to flash anything. Simply find the newest version of the ROM and Radio you are trying to load and run the exe. Hard to believe, but it's really that easy.
Hi and thanks for the reply,
will the v3 unlocker work even if I cant boot my ppc and so I cant connect with activesync?
The only thing I can do, is boot into bootloader on the ppc and connect using the mtty tool.
Can I still use the method you suggest?
Thanks again,
Chris

Hi X01HT Rock....
can I ask u a favor? If you find a solution please PM me... I will do the same
thanks

you can't use the unlocker unless you can copy it to the device and run it from there.
from xda wiki
7. Reset your phone and put it back in bootloader mode

now copy unlock v3 to your phone, and run on the phone.
download radio 1.34 and run on your pc, while your device and pc is in activesync mode.
I believe all of this is in the wiki.

yeah, but the guy's device is locked with a 1.09 bootloader. we might need POF's help here.
please PLEASE guys, i need your help here (POF are you reading this?)
My machine was made SuperCID using v2a before all this sh*t happened and it was running smoothly.
It now seems that some of the mtty commands I read and tried to apply resulted in the SuperCID status to go away and now it's *scrambled* (info 2 results in "HTCSF kEØ(HTCE"). So now I cannot flash ANY rom into it even if I could.
I get to the bootloader (SPL 1.09) and also up to the windows mobile splash screen.
Also at the HTC subsplash I can see the "No GSM" msg for a fraction of a second.
Please help me unbrick this baby. I can't afford to buy another one
cant run the mtty that way
I have tried to run the password and every thing it I am having some problems with the communication
HTCST ÚÈÒHTCEUSB>
USB>password 0000000000000000
HTCSPass1.CMˆËHTCEUSB>set 1e 1
USB>erase a040000 c80000
HTCST ÚÈÒHTCEUSB>erase a0cc0000 c80000
HTCST ÚÈÒHTCEUSB>erase a01940000 640000
HTCST ÚÈÒHTCEUSB>set 1e 0
USB>
this is what happens then I try to rest the phone but it just goes back to whatit was doing.
I think that I have a language problem here.

SuperCID unlocker v2a would not have worked on SPL 1.09. It might have said that unlocked successfully, but it wont have unlocked. Only unlocker 3 will unlock a SPL 1.09 phone. You'll have to keep hammering on the "bricked hermes" sticky. Someone will get round to helping you in a day or two.
I put this in the wrong place and cannot delete. Sorry for the misspost.
Hello,
I have seen on the Universal thread a way to completly format the device. After that lot of people who were stuck in windows mobile screen have recovered their device.
I dont know if it is working with hermes.

@.VIBE:
My original SPL at the time when I applied v2a unlocker was 1.01, and v2a unlocked it, I verified it with "info 2" in mtty just after, and also after all this mess started.
Something I did while trying to get out of this mess, changed my SuperCID status and corrupted it.
Is there a way to make it superCID again if the only thing I can connect with is mtty?
Thanks
Chris
You guys with bricked phones need to carefully read and understand ALL of the "dead hermes? corrupted radio? Post comments here" sticky!
Everything that POF currently knows on unbricking your device is in there also Superdave has some help for those who can get into KITL mode. Even then not every brick is recoverable at the moment, but you need to spend some time reading to find out!!
I've noticed that POF's not as quick as he used to be in replying to these kind of threads, I surmise he could be a little fed up with repeating the same thing over and over again, but I could be wrong.
Best of luck to you and my advice at the moment to anybody else coming across this is to SuperCID your phone and always try to keep your bootloader at SPL 1.04 (upgrade using mtty) as it makes recovering from bricked phones much easier.
Im having the same problem
There Is A Way Of Downgrading From 109.
Search Google For Downgrade_SPL Then Do This.
1. Go to Google, search for DownGrade_SPL.rar
2. Connect your tytn to PC and wait until activesync completed.
3. Run M3100v3cUnlock.exe. Once you see checking device.... in DOS box and whilte screen on your tytn, close the program (Dos box) immedaitely.
4. Run ROMUpgradeUt.exe and follow the japanese wizard to complete the boot loader downgrade.
5. Reboot your tytn and then put it into bootloader mode agian, you should see SPL-1.04. Great!
Cheers
@Mousey
You need to be able to fully boot into the OS to connect to activesync and the phones described here can't. The only other way I know of downgrading from 1.09 to 1.04 is from KITL mode which not all ROMS have. Full details are in the sticky I mentioned earlier.
