Vario II magnetic case & T-Mobile - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

I been having loads of problems with the original Vario II case. The strong magnets have been changing the screen to landscape mode, freezing and even crashing the windows...
So a while ago I called T-Mobile customer service and told the lady how disappointed I was, theres clearly a design fault with the case. She said theres nothing she can do (bit rude) but then I insisted I can talk with her supervisor.
She wasnt very happy but said her supervisor would call me back within few minutes. About a half an hour later, that same lady (not her boss) called me back saying they will send me a new aluminium case! However... after couple days of nothing in mail from T-mobile, I called them back. A guy tells me they run out of stock of that case, so what I could do is buy one case anywhere and they would reimburse the costs in my next bill (faxing the receit of course).
I called HTC manufacturer customer service (very helpful people!) to ask where to get a good case and they pointed me to mobilefun.co.uk. I ordered a cool leather one... and T-mobile kept their promise, I was refunded for the costs!!!

change the case
the point of my post was... if you're on T-Mobile uk its worth call the customer service and ask for a new case / pay costs of a new. they seem to be aware now of the problem the magnets cause.

I have to say i've not noticed this issue with my vario II, is this specific to a batch?

I saw somewhere that the Hermes platform supposedly uses something called a Reed Switch which detects whether or not the keyboard has been slid out.
The Reed Switch is activated by a small magnet in the case of the phone itself which passes over it and that's why the magnets in the bundled case make the screen switch.

Sprint: Phone Replacement, Urgent PLease help!

Hey guys, I ran into quite a predicament today. As I was walking to work, I fell something fall out and slide half way across the parking lot. I felt me phone case (the crappy one that came with the phone), looked down on the ground and noticed it was my AWESOME Sprint Touch Pro. With the site of my phone moving in a hockey-like manner, I finished cursing and decided that I don’t want to have such an amazing phone looking like a piece of crap.
So here is where I am at. I need to get this phone fixed. I think that I might have a few options, but I want to know what you guys think. Originally, I bought this phone from a guy of Craigslist; it was $240, if you can believe it. Now, the phone had never been activated, so it was as if I was the original owner. Additionally, I never got a phone from sprint, but I am under contract. That means, according to sprint, that I am eligible for a new to get a new phone at anytime. Thus, I reach my questions and request for opinions.
Option 1 (least likely): Since the phone was never activated, can I still claim the 30-day phone guarantee from sprint? Meaning, can I return the phone as if it was defective?
Option 2 (What I will probably have to do): Should I buy a phone, get the equipment protection plan, and then process my touch pro as a defective phone. This seems like a relatively good idea, because I can get a phone pretty cheap (like the rant) and sell it on Ebay. So in the end, I make money off of this idea. The only down side is that my contract restarts, but I have only been with sprint for about four months. Also, I was going to save my free phone upgrade for next year so I could get a brand spanking new phone.
Option 3 (Don’t want to do this): Suck it up, and get a silicon case that covers the scratches. The scratches are only around the shiny part on the perimeter of the screen, which, by the way, says a lot about the quality of the screen.
Option 4 (Too much trouble): Sell it on eBay for as much as I can, and since it’s probable less than $300, put the rest out of pocket and buy a brand new touch pro from sprint.
Option 5 (Does it exits?): look for replacement housing. Since the phone is new, I don’t know if it’s even out there yet.
Thanks for all your input guys. I really hope to hear from some Sprint Reps or something. Meanwhile, I am going to try to sucker Sprint into helping me out.
P.S Yes, I know what I am doing is unethical, and that the phone is not really defective, thus I should not be returning it as defective.
I think I am having trouble understanding what happened. You have scratched your touch pro that you bought from someone else, I got that.
You never activated the phone on sprint? You should go ahead and put the phone one your account and get insurance immediately!
If you have only been with Sprint for 4 months how are you eligible for an upgrade?
If it is only chrome scratched my TP came like that. Look at the chrome around the keyboard section. At all 3 corners, excluding the Stylus one check for a "Seam" in the chrome, if it has this you can take it in and exchange at a Sprint store.
A scratched phone on Ebay will go for MUCH less than a regular one.
I am not here to tell you whether you are ethical or not, but you should exhaust all options that seem less unethical first before trying to make someone else pay for your mistake. That being said, I think everyone in the world would try to get a new phone for free, so I wouldn't feel too bad.
The phone is activated on sprint, but the person that sold it to me never activated it. It has been only a few days since I activated, can I still add the TEP? And are they going to charger a deductible, cuz they'll charge me $55 to fix it.
I am eligible for an upgrade cuz I never got a phone from sprint.
So if it has some defects I could take it back, even though I have no TEP? Unfortunately, the phone is flawless other than my stupid scratches.
TBH, I don't fell doing this to sprint. They have screwed me over many times over. This would just even it out.
If it is activated just go ahead and get insurance. You can add it anytime. They will charge deductible normally, but instead of telling them its because of scratches tell them you are experiencing poor battery life and that you can't hear anything in the speaker because it sounds like a tin can.
Oh, you never purchased a phone when you switched. I was confused. Thanks for clarification.
Look for those seams, almost every TP has them and they will switch for free without TEP. They are hard to notice but mine has em and I am going to switch soon.
They have screwed me repeatedly and I would be doing the same thing. Haha, I wasn't trying to preach in my post before.
Is there a grace period to get it? I thought it was like 30 days. Yea, I can lie to them, no problem. Though my bat life is amazing. play with it all day and never has died on me.
Can you direct me to a link to where this seams thingy is being discussed, or where the sources where u got this is at. I want to read some on it. Or maybe some pics, I didn't really know where to look.
Yea, well, they decided to renew my contract, and it said they had returned my deposit...I'm definitely going to use that against them.
To be honest, they have messed up so many times, I have only paid my full bill about 2 times.
I Heard my Sprint Rep. say that the insurance can only be added within the first 30 days.
So here is the rub....How do they know when you purchased it? Unfortunately logic would say that the insurance only applies to devices purchased directly from the carrier, but I hope I am wrong.

Unless they changed the policy, that's not true. I had a phone for 6 months before I added the insurance online through the My Account feature.
But it's possible that has been changed and no longer do able.
Guys Thanks for all your responses, they are very informative.
So Basically here, I am leaning towards trying to see if I can get insurance added. I don't know how hard of a task this will be, but I hope that they can be persuaded into helping me out.
If not, I will just get a cheap phone and sell it.
Again, I am aware of the ethical lines being crossed, but wit sprint, those lines seem almost unreal.
update (Sorry about the double post):
So to my surprise srpint sent this in an email:
Regarding the call from the technical department, I have forwarded your
concern to the appropriate department.
The handset on the account is under 30 day return period. You can visit
the nearest Sprint store and replace the handset.
Thank you again for contacting Sprint. Have a great day!

its 30 days from the day you activate the phone...so you can go to a sprint store or call customer service and add insurance
as a tech in a sprint affiliate store i WOULD NOT swap you out for free because of cosmetic damage. So you are looking at paying 50 through Asurion(the insurance company)

you cant return a phone you never purchased from a sprint store lol
Well, well see. I am going to request a return kit from them, as they said that they would do. If not, then what ever.
BTW, the phone doesn't look like its been dropped or has any cracks. The excuse, "Its been in my pocket with my keys," would fly without a hitch.
We shall see what happens.
Sorry man, haven't been around the Computer. I had insurance on my touch I bought off of ebay. I had ins on my phone before and when I activated the phone it just went ahead and switched it over to my touch. So you should be fine adding it.
You can probably send it to them, but what are they going to give you back? You paid them $0 for the phone, so be careful, that may be what they give you.
Here is the site you requested talking about the chrome seams.

Yea, as I thought, I don't have that problem on my phone.
So if I understand your correctly, you bought a phone from Ebay, and added insurance to it?
Sorry about double post. I just added TEP, took it in. Told them about some errors, no lies. Just some stuff that happens with the phone. Of course I know its normal, but they didn't know that. They gave me a brand new TP, and let me keep the old battery.

Broke The LCD Screen Already

Something unfortunate happened this morning and my phone just slipped from the pocket of my jacket to the street and a car has passed over it two seconds after that just in front of my eyes.
I felt like the car passed over me instead! Luckily though, the phone was upside down and was not brutally damaged; only some bruises on the screen and the housing.
Although the LCD and the phone still works 80%, of course it is not usable under normal conditions. It misses a lot of touches. I am attaching two pictures of the phone that I took by my old TYTN II.
Now therefore I need housing and LCD screen. Although I have seen some housings on ebay; I could not find any screen.
Any ideas of whereabout?
Regards,
For a new screen, you have to get it repaired. You can't do it yourself...
Unless you are really good with eletronics. But the screens aren't available on the market.
I live in Turkey and bought the device from UK via a friend, who brought it here. I will be very hard again to send it UK and give it to customer service and get back to Turkey. I am not talking about shipping but very much worried about customs behavior in Turkey. It's a high possibility that they will treat the device as a "new" after repair and ask for very high custom tax.
Anyway, I have replaced housing and lcd screen before of my TYTN II with various parts I have bought from Ebay. Of course I do not do it myself; instead I give the device to a local mobile phone repair shop in Ankara; the people there are highly experienced in changing parts of all kinds of mobile phones; so it won't be a big problem for me if I can get a new screen somehow
Thanks for advice though.
Hi all,
After a long e-mail traffic via many ebay sellers I think I found what I am looking for; a seller has given me this address: http://www.shope2.com/Product.php?product_id=51490
Can anyone just check that if this is the correct part?
Regards.
I think I weep'd a little when I seen your pics. Sorry to see that happen to you. I think I would have cried like a baby if that were to happen to my Touch Pro2.
Good luck with it. Hope everything works out for you.
I have no choice but to
cry.
thats the reason now i got insurance on my phone :
6 euros / month against break, thief, oxydation etc...
Good thing is, when the TP2 wont be sold anymore, i can just "break" mine , and get the new version (TP3 ? or TP2-like) at no cost
Its an investment, but on the long time, its the best choice with those very expensive phones.

that is almost as painful as getting hit in the groin..
Yes it has a valid warranty in UK; I did not want to void it and I have contacted customer support. They requested me to hand over the phone to "HTC Europe Co. Ltd. Communication House, Presley Way, Crownhill, Milton Keynes, MK80ES" and I gave it to a friend who lives in London; I'll see how much they will charge it for me; until then I am still using my old friend TYTN II
Regards,
OUCH! My heart feels sore for you my friend. Surely there must a registered HTC store in your country that you can get the screen replaced at?
I wouldn't want to try and replace it yourself or going to anyone who isn't a registered technician
You're phone actually survived getting run over by a car??
That's crazy!
I could imagine my Kaiser surviving that, but then you could knock someone out with that! I thought the TP2 wasn't any where near as well built a device.
Really sorry it's happened though, that sucks Hope you get it sorted for a reasonable price!

Unfortunately, i dont know about insurance in the US...
In France at least, most Telecom companies offer insurance as an option.
Well, lastweek i dropped my phone and the glass screen was broken, i have to spend 90USD for repair service.
i'm from Singapore
there are deep scratches on my screen (LCD is working) and i was quoted SGD$40+ for replacing the glass screen
USD$1 = SGD$1.44

Phantom Skinz for Tilt2 ?

Hi all,
Does anyone know which Phantom Skinz will fit the AT&T Tilt 2.
They have 3 versions on the website for TouchPro2, but the carriers are Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon. No AT&T
http://phantomskinz.com/search.aspx?manufacturer=5
I emailed them at Phantom Skinz but they don't know.
Thanks
I actually contacted them about a Tilt2 version as well. They said that they don't have one right now but then they asked me if I wanted to loan them my Tilt2 so that they can create one. They said that they would fully skin my device free of charge if I was willing to lend them my phone, thanks but NO THANKS!

That's a good one, loan them your Tilt2
Lemme guess, they had the T-Mobile, Verizon and Sprint versions loaned out to them too ?
I thought they are in the business to make money, they should be on top of their market.

Hi All,
Just a quick clarification. We believe the Tilt 2 is the same design as the T-Mobile version TP2. We will edit our site to indicate this. Also, we occasionally get requests from customers looking for a skin that we do not have. For popular phones we will offer to have the phone shipped to us, draw the phone, install the pattern and return it to them. In addition, some people just like to have us install the skin, which we will if the phone is shipped to us.
Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about PhantomSkinz!

Thanks
Invisible Sheild a better bet!
Just go with Invisible Shield, I've used them for my iphone and had the same skin on for 2 years. I now ordered one for my ATT Tilt 2 and my ATT Pure. It's an extremely well made skin. And the best part, they already have one made for the ATT Tilt 2.
http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-tilt-2-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php
well, I got the verizon skin. I am not impressed with the edge pieces at all. It may be that the design of the phone and being complicated, but with the edge pieces being rounded and cornered the pieces dont fit well.
The battery cover and the front lcd skin fit nicely. I am not really liking the feel, the stylus doesnt drag over the screen freely, it is rather rubbery feeling so it stutters, often causing unintended results.
I spoke with phantomskinz in an email over about a week and a half (kind of long time, for something so simple) and they offered me to ship it back for a refund. While I am sure I wont get my shipping back and I will have to pay for shipping to them and then I am only saving like $9 at best. So, I will wait till I find a decent deal on bodyguardz or the like and replace this.
I would suggest to use something else as phantomskinz customer service is not the best and takes longer then necessary. Also quality of the design is probably matched or exceeded by another maker.
the side was a no go for me too.. you cant put them on.... they dont fit well
the back came out nice and so does the front but thats about it.

HTC HD2 liquid in the screen. Pls help

Hello there guys
so i got my replacement phone after i lost my htc hd2.they sent me a brand new htc hd2 in the box.recently the screen showed up a mark in the middle with liquid moving around if u press it. its doesnt have any affect on the screen itself but it just looks bad. I phoned the insurance company and they said they will send me a brand new after i return it. i was just wondering if its worth all the hassle and can be fixed easily. also send/recieve button for email seems to be working for Wi-Fi internet only and it wont download any emails using the network internet even tho i know it work perfectly since i use it alot.
just out of interest, anyone willing to buy brand new htc hd2 unlocked (the one they will send me) and how much u r willing to pay.
thanks
Sounds like a Newton ring to me.
I was hoping that the HD2 wasn't going to suffer from them as I've not seen any posts mentioning them until now (unlike with my old HD)
Normally caused by overheating through using bluetooth/wifi/3G/apps although don't expect HTC to admit that, they put it down to applying too much pressure to the screen.
If you're having problems with the phone and they're offering a replacement, I'd take it.
You never know, they could have sent you a refurbed model by mistake.

Without signs of minor damage on the phone it's hard to say it's a refurb unit, and it's totally possibly that it's a brand new phone.
It's very easy for a company dealing with returned phones to accidently ship one out as a new one.
There was a rather embarassing moment for a bloke who was showing his wife how to use her brand new phone from T-mobile when they stumbled across amatuer nude photos! The staff in the T-mobile shop's initial solution when they complained was to offer to delete the images rather than a new phone!

HTC vs carrier customer service

On another thread, I was discussing my HTC Flyer's chipped screen. To my surprise, they not only covered the screen under warranty (after confirming the screen was easily damaged with the pen), they also overnighted everything via Fedex. When I called in, there was no wait on the line and someone called back to make confirm everything was OK. So shout out to HTC -- that is frigging phenomenal support.
This stands in stark contrast to the relatively lousy support most carriers will give you. Screwed up contracts, slow replacements, and when they do cover your phone under warranty, the stick you with a refurb.
I wish I could just buy unlocked phones directly from HTC, so I could get their out-of-this-world support!

Agreed. I've had plenty of problems with Verizon in the past. I went through 6 (yes 6) Eris' before finally telling Verizon enough was enough. They wanted to put me into a refurbished Incredible and I told them exactly where they could put it. I literally had to tell them that either they replace my phone with a brand spanking new one out of the box or that I was going to another carrier with the other 4 members on my family share plan. Needless to say, they acquiesced to my request.
*If I have helped you, please don't forget to hit the 'thanks' button!*

Keep in mind even if you buy your device through a carrier, as long as it carries the HTC name on it, HTC still supports it. For example, a week after I got my HTC Evo (purchased at Radio Shack), it fell out of my lap rather gently (a couple feet, not with any extra velocity). The LCD was damaged. Sprint would not take it back because I didn't buy it at the Sprint store and Radio Shack would take it back, but they had no replacements to exchange and didn't know when they'd get them (and at the time were calling people of waiting lists for new activations; no way I was going to get a callback for a replacement device from them). I called HTC and explained that the screen broke from a very simple drop, mailed it into their service center, and they replaced the screen, no big deal at all. Since then, I've had way worse drops (and I don't use a case), and the (replacement) screen is still pristine.
I also called them for Evo View help, and they definitely tried to help to the best of their ability for the 1xRTT problem.
