Hey guys, I ran into quite a predicament today. As I was walking to work, I fell something fall out and slide half way across the parking lot. I felt me phone case (the crappy one that came with the phone), looked down on the ground and noticed it was my AWESOME Sprint Touch Pro. With the site of my phone moving in a hockey-like manner, I finished cursing and decided that I don’t want to have such an amazing phone looking like a piece of crap.
So here is where I am at. I need to get this phone fixed. I think that I might have a few options, but I want to know what you guys think. Originally, I bought this phone from a guy of Craigslist; it was $240, if you can believe it. Now, the phone had never been activated, so it was as if I was the original owner. Additionally, I never got a phone from sprint, but I am under contract. That means, according to sprint, that I am eligible for a new to get a new phone at anytime. Thus, I reach my questions and request for opinions.
Option 1 (least likely): Since the phone was never activated, can I still claim the 30-day phone guarantee from sprint? Meaning, can I return the phone as if it was defective?
Option 2 (What I will probably have to do): Should I buy a phone, get the equipment protection plan, and then process my touch pro as a defective phone. This seems like a relatively good idea, because I can get a phone pretty cheap (like the rant) and sell it on Ebay. So in the end, I make money off of this idea. The only down side is that my contract restarts, but I have only been with sprint for about four months. Also, I was going to save my free phone upgrade for next year so I could get a brand spanking new phone.
Option 3 (Don’t want to do this): Suck it up, and get a silicon case that covers the scratches. The scratches are only around the shiny part on the perimeter of the screen, which, by the way, says a lot about the quality of the screen.
Option 4 (Too much trouble): Sell it on eBay for as much as I can, and since it’s probable less than $300, put the rest out of pocket and buy a brand new touch pro from sprint.
Option 5 (Does it exits?): look for replacement housing. Since the phone is new, I don’t know if it’s even out there yet.
Thanks for all your input guys. I really hope to hear from some Sprint Reps or something. Meanwhile, I am going to try to sucker Sprint into helping me out.
P.S Yes, I know what I am doing is unethical, and that the phone is not really defective, thus I should not be returning it as defective.
I think I am having trouble understanding what happened. You have scratched your touch pro that you bought from someone else, I got that.
You never activated the phone on sprint? You should go ahead and put the phone one your account and get insurance immediately!
If you have only been with Sprint for 4 months how are you eligible for an upgrade?
If it is only chrome scratched my TP came like that. Look at the chrome around the keyboard section. At all 3 corners, excluding the Stylus one check for a "Seam" in the chrome, if it has this you can take it in and exchange at a Sprint store.
A scratched phone on Ebay will go for MUCH less than a regular one.
I am not here to tell you whether you are ethical or not, but you should exhaust all options that seem less unethical first before trying to make someone else pay for your mistake. That being said, I think everyone in the world would try to get a new phone for free, so I wouldn't feel too bad.
The phone is activated on sprint, but the person that sold it to me never activated it. It has been only a few days since I activated, can I still add the TEP? And are they going to charger a deductible, cuz they'll charge me $55 to fix it.
I am eligible for an upgrade cuz I never got a phone from sprint.
So if it has some defects I could take it back, even though I have no TEP? Unfortunately, the phone is flawless other than my stupid scratches.
TBH, I don't fell doing this to sprint. They have screwed me over many times over. This would just even it out.
If it is activated just go ahead and get insurance. You can add it anytime. They will charge deductible normally, but instead of telling them its because of scratches tell them you are experiencing poor battery life and that you can't hear anything in the speaker because it sounds like a tin can.
Oh, you never purchased a phone when you switched. I was confused. Thanks for clarification.
Look for those seams, almost every TP has them and they will switch for free without TEP. They are hard to notice but mine has em and I am going to switch soon.
They have screwed me repeatedly and I would be doing the same thing. Haha, I wasn't trying to preach in my post before.
Is there a grace period to get it? I thought it was like 30 days. Yea, I can lie to them, no problem. Though my bat life is amazing. play with it all day and never has died on me.
Can you direct me to a link to where this seams thingy is being discussed, or where the sources where u got this is at. I want to read some on it. Or maybe some pics, I didn't really know where to look.
Yea, well, they decided to renew my contract, and it said they had returned my deposit...I'm definitely going to use that against them.
To be honest, they have messed up so many times, I have only paid my full bill about 2 times.
I Heard my Sprint Rep. say that the insurance can only be added within the first 30 days.
So here is the rub....How do they know when you purchased it? Unfortunately logic would say that the insurance only applies to devices purchased directly from the carrier, but I hope I am wrong.

Unless they changed the policy, that's not true. I had a phone for 6 months before I added the insurance online through the My Account feature.
But it's possible that has been changed and no longer do able.
Guys Thanks for all your responses, they are very informative.
So Basically here, I am leaning towards trying to see if I can get insurance added. I don't know how hard of a task this will be, but I hope that they can be persuaded into helping me out.
If not, I will just get a cheap phone and sell it.
Again, I am aware of the ethical lines being crossed, but wit sprint, those lines seem almost unreal.
update (Sorry about the double post):
So to my surprise srpint sent this in an email:
Regarding the call from the technical department, I have forwarded your
concern to the appropriate department.
The handset on the account is under 30 day return period. You can visit
the nearest Sprint store and replace the handset.
Thank you again for contacting Sprint. Have a great day!

its 30 days from the day you activate the phone...so you can go to a sprint store or call customer service and add insurance
as a tech in a sprint affiliate store i WOULD NOT swap you out for free because of cosmetic damage. So you are looking at paying 50 through Asurion(the insurance company)

they are full of crap lol
you cant return a phone you never purchased from a sprint store lol
Well, well see. I am going to request a return kit from them, as they said that they would do. If not, then what ever.
BTW, the phone doesn't look like its been dropped or has any cracks. The excuse, "Its been in my pocket with my keys," would fly without a hitch.
We shall see what happens.
Sorry man, haven't been around the Computer. I had insurance on my touch I bought off of ebay. I had ins on my phone before and when I activated the phone it just went ahead and switched it over to my touch. So you should be fine adding it.
You can probably send it to them, but what are they going to give you back? You paid them $0 for the phone, so be careful, that may be what they give you.
Here is the site you requested talking about the chrome seams.

Yea, as I thought, I don't have that problem on my phone.
So if I understand your correctly, you bought a phone from Ebay, and added insurance to it?
Sorry about double post. I just added TEP, took it in. Told them about some errors, no lies. Just some stuff that happens with the phone. Of course I know its normal, but they didn't know that. They gave me a brand new TP, and let me keep the old battery.
So I just cracked my phone's screen today (stupidest way.. I've never damaged a phone ever, I baby them) and trust me, it hurt ME. Anyway.
I have insurance on the phone (girlfriend put it on when we started the contract) anyway, I have heard HORRIBLE things about Asurion replacements (bad refurbs, usually either dirty, scratched up or stop working within a couple of weeks) and I really don't want to be on that boat.
On the other hand I could just have the digitizer replaced (since the actual LCD and the phone works superb) but I have two problems with this:
A. I don't know how to repair it myself, never dealt in repairing hardware.
B. I can't seem to find a place around me that fixes anything but stupid iPhones.
What would you guys do?
Oh, here's a picture if you want to share the pain...
EDIT:
Here's the current status (I figure I should keep everyone informed of how horrible this process is so when I finally find a way to get my problem fixed, someone else doesn't have to deal with all this).
When my girl and I first went into Sprint the first night and they told us they don't do physical repairs (which is a lie btw, they do if its less than 2 cracks and it takes up less than an inch, another store told me this) they had us start a replacement with Asurion over the phone. The guy was ready to ship the phone but I told him to wait off to see if I could get the screen replaced someplace else. He said he'd keep the ticket open.
Today after going to two other Sprint stores (one said they don't do physical repairs, other said what I already posted above about the cracks). I told my girlfriend (she's the primary on the account) to go ahead and file the insurance claim. Asurion had no record of the guy leaving the ticket open, but somehow they needed a FAXED (no e-mail) copy of her photo ID.
Tomorrow I will be going to Sprint and I will tell them this horrible experience. I know its a third party company that deals with this, but I've about had it. My bills say Sprint, not Asurion, they will find a fix or I'll cancel contract right in front of them with no EFT due to the Administration fee change. It's horrible customer service. The second time we called Asurion (to finish the claim that was lost) we were on hold for half an hour.
Oh another thing I'm going to be showing the Sprint manager tomorrow:

I will let everyone know how this goes afterwards.

I have heard people slamming new phones as well. Have u taken it in to a repair shop (sprint) and asked if they can just repair it? Look on Craigslist people advertise repairs on it all the time
I would have it replaced if u can't work on it urself. They usually sell screens and digitizers on eBay. I would suggest buy both since they are glued together. It's just easier to replace.

Go into a Sprint repair store and show it to them. If they have a cool repair tech he may fix it for you for free. When my camera cover glass cracked they fixed that for free, but it depends on the store. Some are helpful and some follow company policy strictly. There is a post here that walks you through replacing the screen if you want to try it yourself and have the tools. You also have to weigh the costs. Are a screen and digitizer cheaper than the $100 deductible on Asurion. Since the 3D is still a new phone chances are you will get a new one from Asurion. Also, are you rooted with revolutionary?? Which is a much better root than the HTC method. If you are, any new phone will come with the new bootloader which means you will only be able to use HTC's method of rooting.
just 2 weeks ago we needed to replace a lost og evo on my account, we got a brand new one, unopened box. with that phone as old as it is I would think you would get a new one with a 3D
edit: i didnt read the above post,, good point, i wouldn't want to get stuck with the 1.500 hboot you cant use the revolutionary on
If you are happy with the device have it repaired.
As another posted stated check ahead of time. Some devices have the LCD glued to the touchscreen/glass aka digitizer/glass. Manufacturers do this to help prevent dust from collecting on the LCD over time.
I have not taken apart a 3D yet so i cant confirm that as of yet.
Feel free to PM me for more info. I cant officaily offer to help you fix it, board rules. wink wink nod nod special handshake. but if i can help i will.
We are not even supposed to touch 3d's yet , the crack looks to take up less then an inch of screen they should replace it for you , there no I referbs yet anyway .
My store has swapped out front panels for free even without insurance, given we have the parts phone to strip , since we can make a ticket for 3d's yet
If you don't have an Evo3d well ...
Call a sprint service and repair store, ask to speak to a tech there, and tell the truth as far as what happened and the size of the crack. If it's around an inch or less they should cover it. If it's a bigger crack if you make a good impression on the tech they may cover it anyways and replace the whole panel at no charge if you have TEP.
I would call or email Htc about it... Maybe they do it for you even if u have to pay... I would pay to get it fix.. just to keep my original device!!!

I have actually had nothing but good experiences with Asurion. On my OG EVO I had to have it replaced and they sent me a refurb. The refurb had a small indention in the screen. I called them and they have to by policy run some tests. The tests are for technical problems, but they still ran through them even though my issue was cosmetic. After my dent was still there after rebooting the phone lol they sent me a brand new one. They always send the phones out next day shipping and as long as they have them in stock you will get yours the next day.
I would, like others have suggested, take it into a Sprint repair center and see if they will fix it. Then basically it's research on just how hard or easy it will be to replace it yourself. If it cost more than $100 or you feel completely overwhelmed, I would get the replacement through Asurion. Just remember, they have certain stickers and ways to tell if you have opened your phone up and it will void your 1 year warranty should something happen.
Thanks for all the replies guys. I forgot to add this to the OP: I took the phone into Sprint yesterday I and was told that they don't fix any sort of physical damage, which I thought was bull based on other threads I saw here in the forums. Any special policy or anything I should bring up to have them stop lying to me? I
And it's comforting that everyone ha s had good experiences with Asurion. If I can't have the screen fixed I'll definitely do that. The fact that is new brings up a good point, but I've also read they'll wait until they have the phone to replace it for you.

My store does , but like I said you can't open up 3d's yet so its more like a favor insured or not

The store I went to was an official Sprint one. I did a bunch of calling to all the repair stores around me, all of them told me they wont touch it if it's physically damaged (I threw in that was less than an inch).
I DID get a guy that at least asked if it was one crack and I told him it was a main one and was spider webbed out, he told me that the tech would look at it, so I"m going over now and see what happens. I'll keep everyone posted. I just rather not spend 100 bucks on a new refurbed phone when the crack is not that giant.

Why are you calling asurion. You can go to their website, file a claim, and be done in about 2 minutes. No dealing with assholes and your new phone will arrive in a couple of days.
Because when I tried to do that it told me that "more information was needed" and to call in.
Going into Sprint in an hour or so.
I have a launch 3vo, 1.4 hboot. My screen shattered, if I get a replacement I assume it will have 1.5 hboot, which I've seen stuff here and there that says limited support. Would I be better off trying to replace it and keeping my current phone, which is rooted and romed? And has anyone had anyluck replacing it? I've seen the thread for replacing the lcd, but I just need the glass, thanks.
You should take it to the Sprint store and see if they can just replace the digitizer. Make up some BS about how you need your phonefor business and can't wait on a replacement. If they can fix it, awesome. If not, then just take it back and maybe order the digitizer yourself.

As long as you have TEP, you can get your screen replaced in the store. The software, rom, root, etc. make no difference. If they try to tell you they can't replace it then they're either lazy, unaware of how to harvest parts, or uneducated on Sprint Corporate S&R policies.
I replace them all the time in our stores. The myth is that you can't get your phone repaired if it's rooted. That's not true, it just voids your HTC warranty, not your insurance with Sprint. I encourage my customers to root and have even rooted some of their devices for them. The biggest issue are techs that aren't aware of Sprint policies or just too lazy to follow them.

Like I said before... some stores have lazy techs. Telling a customer that physical damage is not repairable in store is completely false. The more accurate statement would be as follows:
Physical damage resulting in catastrophic malfunction or complete unusability is not repairable in store. Physical damage resulting in cosmetic abnormalities can be repaired.
Long story short, they tell you that because they don't want to deal with it. There is no policy against it and further their is no reason these damages should not be repaired.
I repair completely shattered Evo screens daily with a disclaimer that if anything is internally damaged it MAY result in an insurance claim. In most cases it's purely cosmetic and I have them out the door with no money out of pocket and happy as can be.
I'm actually on the process with Asurion to get a replacement because my screen is broken too... I took the phone to Sprint and the Sprint Rep file a claim and I just had to fax a Form and a copy of my driver license to get it... they wont fix it.. I would be getting the phone by monday so I report back if I get a 1.5 hboot phone..
Damn!!! Tell us how you really feel
Like Palekillerwhale said, it's going to depend on the techs at the sprint store. If you live in a metropolitan area, take it to another authorized sprint repair store. I'm fortunate the one by me is pretty decent, and works really hard at satisfying customers. They even have an evo 4g on a display with a shattered screen (not a small crack...completely shattered), and it says "we can fix this".

Well, I can tell you a few things regarding this issue and what I plan to do about it...
I had a NON-DAMAGE screen issue pop up with my Evo3d just a little over the 30 days from launch, which of course I got the handset on release day. The screen/digitalizer would become unresponsive or conversely just freak out, clicking/selecting things without touching the screen at all. Well of course after a day of frustration thinking it was an app or something else I decided to get it fixed.
First and foremost and still to this day, taking it to a Sprint store (I'm in NY so there are PLENTY of them, including flagship stores and repair dept's.) and they inform me that there is a problem (lol) and they would replace it with a refurbished phone (no cost). I refused, stating that if they couldn't repair the handset they should replace it with a NEW one. Hahahaha, I'm sure you can figure their answer to that...
I told them (the analogy might be a bit off), but it was like buying a new car and having a problem with it right away... so you take it to the dealer and they tell you instead of fixing your car, they have one or two sitting on the lot that was put together from pieces of GOOD cars they had gotten back broken, but not too worry that car he's giving you is just LIKE new.
So I took my phone and called Sprint, eventually elevating it to a Supervisor and explained that just because the phone was over 30 days, it was not dropped, water or any other type of damaged and should be swapped as defective, not damaged and seeing that THEY couldn't repair it (they had not parts yet for it) that further qualified the fact it should be replaced as it was - "NEW". Lol... well, the Supervisor said that although he KNEW that was done at times, he wasn;t sure if he could get approval for this instance. Of course they wouldn't replace it with a new unit, but they did put me in a 3 way with HTC who would repair the "KNOWN ISSUE" with the digitalizers on my phone and send "MY" phone back to me all new. A 6-10 day turn around... Well sounded good right? Sure........ right until HTC somehow forgot to send me the shipping and return info, etc., lol...
Anyways, so fast forward, the screen then worked... only intermittently would they screen/digitalizer issue pop it's ugly head. (The original issue began in end of July, early August)... That is until just last week, when not matter what I did, the screen was totally out of control. SO I went to Sprint store to see if they had parts yet... and the answer was no, they would repair screen, but would replace the phone. I was so pissed as you could imagine. 4 months and no parts for repair? Hmmmmmm... ok, well we (here) all know they WANT that 1.5 HBoot on all our phones and that seemingly benign tracking software too... lol. So I refused.
Ok, to the meat of the story...
So I called Sprint and after going through what seemed torture (yes - 4 + hours on the phone) they shipped me a REPLACEMENT unit. OH boy... you're thinking he's right back where he started... but it's not so.
What I wanted was the broken phone and a replacement unit in my hand at the same time, obviously for a reason.
First thing I did of course was turn the thing on and sure enough, HBoot 1.5. Then the unit starts and of course the garbage is there, asking if it's ok for HTC to TRACK my activities to provide a better product, bull bull bull, but whatever... I just look over the phone and make note of all the upgrades to software, hardware, etc., personally, I'm not liking it, but whatever.
Here's what I'm gonna do about it... I'm taking the damned thing apart and swapping the NEW screen with the core of my phone so I get what I want. I still have another 14 days to send the broken phone back so plenty of time to do it. I also took video of my phone freaking out so if they try to charge me I will be able to fight it. I'm not in the city this week otherwise I would have just stopped by the Sprint store near me and duked the kid $20 to do the swap for me, but whatever, I have the tech tools so will help myself. I'm happy to be free from the bull they put on the handsets and keep my original phone. I get my new screen and keep the original core... all no cost to me.
Anyways, thought I'd just share my experience with you all.
Regards,

Well you keep working for corporate, I'll keep working for customers. As much money as I save Sprint with my ridiculously low exchange rate, they can spare harvested parts to help customers out. Keep sending people to Asurion for more ****ty DOA replacements.
I'm #1 in the southern region for a reason.
Ahahahahaha who is your SAR...I am in the south region too and I am floored by your response I am a tech at a 3rd party dealer and we just had an audit of my store I asked my representitive and you are wrong ahahahahaha

Hi All.
Never cracked a screen before so this is a bit embarrassing. Thankfully it's not bad, only a slight crack in the black bezel area in 2 places, but if I run my finger over it you can feel it. My concern is that it may be weakened now to the point if it suffers a drop/fall it will crack all the way.
Does anyone have experience with AT&T insurance? This is my first phone in the US and I know that the deductible is $199. The thought crossed my mind that at some point AT&T will discontinue the HOX+.
BTW, I have a bad knee and tripped on some carpet stairs while my phone was in my pocket, with a case on, so I'm surprised it even cracked in the first place.

Well sir you have two options...
1. file with the insurance and get either a new or refurb HOX+
2. wait a couple months til they discontinue it then file. and you may get lucky and get a new HTC ONE..
other than that.. not much you can do on the cheap side of things 199 for the insurance, or buy a new screen which might be little cheaper not sure on that either way its deal with the crack or do the above. lol
I have had a few exp with insurance and have no complaints. even refurbs looked new. good luck man..
I cracked mine and went around insurance and sent it in for repair through HTC. It cost 199. You may be able to get it done for less. In my case the screen was damaged so badly it was falling off in little pieces. Insurance doesn't seem to net you much unless you completely destroy the phone.

So in other words, destroy the phone then send it in with a witty excuse.
unfortunately, AT&T will only replace with refurbished or like device even after the device is "Discontinued" waiting wont gain you a HTC One, the only way that would ever happen is if AT&T/HTC completely ran out of handsets. sometimes if the mfg comes out with a new version of the same device (i.e. the focus and the focus II from samsung) you might get the upgraded version, but i wouldnt hold my breath in hopes of getting an HTC One in replacement for your broken X+.
Just an update on this - AT&T doesn't appear to be offering the One X+ anymore on their website. That said, my One X+ is still going strong despite the cracks on the side. Given the cracks didn't manage to stretch over the visible part of the screen - it's hard to justify the $199 so I'll continue to wait.
It's a shame that such a great phone has limited developer support. I saw that the HTC First had the source code released and yet the HOX+ is not shown the same love.

I would do a google search, I live near Chicago, so there are plenty of places that will fix it around $100... I know that some Radio Shacks will repair them, and seen a couple Kiosk in the Mall, which offer screen repair.

Wow, your right, I don't see the HOX+ on the site. I didn't even notice that till you mentioned it. They even moved the One down to the bottom. It doesn't even show a HOX+ referb, or as they call it, a "certified like new". I wonder if they are done with the HOX+ already? That's crazy. Tease us with a 64MB phone for $200 then pull it. That's OK, I have mine and I love it. And if I move up to the ONE, I'll keep the HOX+.
So I have the purple camera issue (like everyone else apparently) and I'm wondering a few things.
First off is it worth it to go through AT&T for a replacement? I have been reading that people are getting Phones back that are in poor shape, and not only that but the issue is recurring in the replacement phones as well.
Secondly I am assuming I will need to relock my bootloader and un root my phone to send it back, correct? My concern is if I get a replacement phone with 4.3 already installed am I limited in my ability to root/s-off, etc?
Third, am I maybe better off sucking it up and sending to HTC and losing my phone for a week? If I do that do I need to relock/clear/etc?
Anyone... Bueller?
I'd say it's worth a shot. The worst thing that can happen, is you receive an unsatisfactory replacement device (whether it be too used/damaged for your tastes, or has a purple camera.) You can simply return it in this case, letting AT&T know that you aren't satisfied with the replacement.
I had my One replaced via warranty, and really lucked out, as it would seem I received a brand new One in return (still had the grey IMEI decal and AT&T "DON'T TXT & DRIVE" plastic wrap on it.) The camera sensor date is 5-22, but I've yet to encounter any purple with the camera, thankfully. My defective One had a 5-01 sensor date, and the purple was awful, showing up even in well-lit pictures.
IF YOU GO THIS ROUTE!!! Pay for tracking and insurance at USPS when you return the device with the prepaid postage label and packaging. This is for your peace of mind. AT&T handles warranty returns through a third party called SmartLabel/Newgistics, and there are quite a number of complaints about this company.
My complaint? The tracking number assigned to my return package was "not found" via their tracking site until nearly 3 weeks had passed. During this time, I was getting e-mails and phone calls from AT&T, warning me that they had not received my device, and that I'd be charged up to $900 if I didn't return it within 10 days. Apparently, Newgistics just sits on the package in a queue until they decide to attend to it. That's a really ****ty feeling to have looming over your head for 3 weeks -- thinking your phone was either lost or stolen -- and it can be avoided if you just cough up 5 bucks for tracking and insurance at the post office.
Also, one last tip, if you're concerned your device may be considered "damaged" (AT&T doesn't offer a warranty replacement for damaged phones, and will make you pay for the replacement.) Bring your phone to any AT&T location, tell them you're interested in getting a warranty replacement, and have them inspect your phone. They can put a note on your account that the phone is not damaged. Of course, this is different from water damage, which they cannot determine (due to the sealed construction) until you mail it in

Thanks for the reply. Was your device rooted or did you clear all that before sending it?
Sorry, forgot to address that. My device wasn't rooted, but it was unlocked and S-OFF'd with the GPE CID. Before sending it back, I changed the CID back to the AT&T-appropriate one (something like CWS__001) and restored via the stock Android 4.3/Sense 5.0 RUU. I did not relock or S-ON the device. They haven't yet received my return, however. From what I've read of AT&T's warranty department (regarding other Android phones,) they don't seem to care/notice what has been done, so long as the stock OS/firmware is present, and appears to be stock.

Ok cool will give it a try
I would recommend you attempt to unroot and restore the phone as much as possible before sending it in, though! My above post should not be interpreted as a guarantee that they will accept a rooted/tampered phone.

Yeah once I root the new one and copy my data and stuff over I will do the best to relock up the old one.
Purple Tint Also
Hi everyone,
I also have this purple tint issue. I have had the phone since 7/10/13, and I keep thinking that the next software update will fix the camera issue. I was hoping 4.3 would fix it, nope. Now i'm hoping for 4.4 but I am thinking it will not do anything. I was going to wait until the 4.4 update comes out to see if this will fix it or not.
I purchased my AT&T HTC One from Best Buy. Would I have to go through HTC to replace it with the warranty or could I go through AT&T? Would you suggest one over another? Also, would they give me a hassle about replacing it because of this camera issue by like trying to say it's not their fault?
This will be the first time that I have had to replace a phone. Do I have to send it in and then I will be without a phone while they replace it or will they send me a replacement, then I send my phone to them?
Thank you in advance!

I would probably go into an ATT store and see if they can exchange it out right there. I would think, if you have your receipt they would. If not, I would then head into best buy and have them do it. You have one year warranty. I bought mine through att and just went in last week to exchange it, and the gal actually did it right there and loaded the info on the new one, however it was the 32 gb model, and I own a 64gb model. She had to place a order for another one which was sent to me FedEx.
I just go it yesterday, took only 3 days shipping, and now I have 10 days to put my old one in the box and get it shipped back to them. Pretty simple and painless really. I haven't turned the new one on yet, my initial observation looks pretty much identical to my old one, with no physical defects of the new (refurbished) unit.
I just hope the innards are just as pristine as mine was. I also relocked it, s-on, unrooted and restored att software to it. Didn't want to take the chance of some crap coming back on me.
Thanks!

In my case (blown speaker), I had to go to a special warranty store. They wouldnt replace it at a normal store for me. But the device service center or whatever it was did replace mine on the spot with no shipping, so that was a plus even if the drive was a bit out of the way.
I suppose I got lucky as well as I'd never heard of this purple camera issue and while I'm sure this phone isn't brand new, its been working alright. I've had terrible luck with the One, with this being my third replacement.

I just had mine replaced due to that issue, and the seams on the plastic, and the phone mic didn't work right, andd the screen had like 10 dead pixels lol.
Anyways got the new one back hoping for the camera to magically be better..it isn't. Still junk lol. Semi sharp and tons of noise in the picture. As soon as you zoom in for detail BAM noise. It is a phone camera and hey, at least it doesn't go purple anymore right? Oh my phone was in like new condition when it came, zero scratches (or it would have been sent right back to them).

Okay so I just talked to AT&T and after some troubleshooting to prove it wasn't software related, they just placed an order for a "refurbished" device that I should get in 5-6 business days. Hopefully the camera works and all of the pixels are there too!
Thanks for the info everyone!
