Has anyone any suggestions about this problem?
I sync with 2 PCs with activesync.
Office Desktop for contacts, notes, tasks
Home Laptop for files
and exchange server directly for office mail.
I gave been able to sync my MDA with my laptop (with Vista), work computer (with XP), and my Mac. I found the only way to do this is to create the primary partnership with my laptop using a bluetooth connection and then using the USB connection for my work computer. Setup your sync paramters on the laptop and then when you sync your work computer just be sure you choose the same paramteres.
You may end up doing some tweaking of appointments and some contacts at first. I had some appointment and contact duplications, but that was an easy fix. Fix those errors on the USB computer before you resync to the laptop and al should be well. If we are talking XP to XP sync I can't be much help.

I am using windows xp with Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 sp1.
Since upgrading to w2k5 I can't sync my notes. Contacts and Calendar, Media are ok.
If I transfer my notes form the desktop to a sync file it transfers all the notes to the pocket pc but I can't open the files in pocket pc because they have a files ext .msg and there seems no application to open them with the pocket pc.
Has anyone had the same problem - can anyone help me to fix it.
Thats one of the reasons I went back to the 2003, I could only sync through the infrared. Other than that you have to go through so much trial and errors; disabiling firewalls and antispy software due to the fact that the w5k treats your PPC as network device........
I gave up and happy with the 2.20.07CHS translated.
Here's my problem, I don't have Vista installed on my desktop, only XP. It is a work PC and I don't see that changing any time soon.
So I am constrained to use MS Active Sync 4.5. It syncs contacts, tasks and calender ok.
Problem is that I rely on Notes on my 7501 heavily at work and can not sync them to my desktop.
Tech support at my job is no help, they just say that my 7501 is not supported. What a bunch of idiots - go back to sleep....
I have heard of Mobsync that will force sync'ing of files to the PC. Has anyone done this with Notes?
And if so, what are the settings and file locations that you used to sync notes to the desktop???
Thanks
Keith Walker
PS I find this super frustrating that I have migrated from an old Sony Clie running Palm OS and syncing of notes was automatic. Now I migrate to WM6 and it won't sync to it's OWN Microcrap desktop OS, WTF????
im running vista, and xp, but can sync my notes on both, with active sync, and mobile device centre, have you tried changing the sync options in active sync and click the notes icon.
Yes I tried that. When I click the notes icon to change the sync options, it tells me that:
"No settings are required for Notes Syncronization. If enabled, the next time you connect your device, all notes on your Device and in Outlook Notes will be syncronized."
So my active sync is enabled for notes sync, but it is not doing that.
The only other thing I can think of is that there is a special location in the 7501 file folders for Notes location. But where should I locate the notes?
Thanks

Store the notes in the documents folder on the Athena, not on the microdrive or miniSD.
thanks! I will try that....
On WM6, I have 'My Documents' and 'Documents and Settings'. My notes are located in 'My Documents' and won't transfer over.
So I take it that you can't have subfolders within the Documents Folder?
Hi,
notes are only synced if they are in root of "My Documents". Subfolders are NOT supported.
If you are using your notes heavily, think of using "OneNote" instead of the standard Outlook notes. OneNote is perfect ...
Best regards,
tsfnet
I've got hundreds of notes in the My Documents root and none of them sync over. Active Sync is of no help either.
I will check out One Note, thanks
KWW
Hi,
can you access your notes through windowsexplorer?
Can you see your notes there?
("<devicename>\My Documents\", you should see Some files named "note1.pwi" or something)
Best regards,
Yes I can, but when I copy the notes to my desktop, the pwi file can not be opened.
Perhaps there is a manual import feature in Desktop Outlook or I could somehow get a viewer or file converter for those pwi files.
Any pointers?
Thanks

Here's an update, I was able to transfer my notes by syncing all my files to the desktop. Now I have a bunch of *.pwi files that I need to somehow port to my Outlook application. Anyone have an idea how to do that?
Barring that, anyone know of a good pwi file viewer??? Word works, sort of...
Sorry, been off sometime. I just don't get it, cause if you see your notes in this folder, they should be synced to Outlook automatically.
Gonna tell you if i find something new concernig your problem.
Best regards,
I've been having the same problem. It looks like WM6 does not convert files when copying from PDA to PC or synching with Desktop (WM5 is doing that just fine). However I do synchronize with Outlook notes directly and it works. I can read my synchronized notes from within Outlook 2003. Another way to read PDA notes is with MS Office OneNote. You go Tools-Copy from Pocket PC and you get all your notes in OneNote. You can then send a note to Word or Outlook as an e-mail.
Hope this helps.
Let me guess, MS One Note costs money, or is it free??
My source of trouble is that the work environment here runs MS Outlook 2002, which probably doesn't support Notes transfer....

It's part of MS Office 2003 like Excel, Visio, etc. Unfortunately I have no experience with MS Outlook 2002 and PDA collaboration. I presume Outlook 2002 does not yet have Notes as a separate subfunction.
Hi,
Outlook 2002 supports notes, but I remember some issues with syncing them. As far as I'm on Outlook 2007 now and didn't use 2002 for years it's hard to remember.
OneNote is part of 2003 and 2007, but only in Professional Version. As a regurlary user of OneNote I absolutely recommend it. It's way better than standard Outlook Notes.
WM6 Notes to Outlook ActiveSync Fix
I just had the same problem using WM6 and Outlook 2007. Notes created in Outlook on my PC synced to WM6, but notes created under WM6 did not sync to Outlook on my PC.
I determined through testing that ActiveSync assumes that Notes to be synchronized from WM6 to Outlook will be in Main memory. I fixed the problem as follows:
1) Start the "Notes" program under WM6.
2) Click "Menu"
3) Click "Options"
4) Click the down-arrow to the right of the "Save to" text box.
5) Select "Main memory"
6) Click "Ok"
Then, create a new test Note under WM6. Synchronize via ActiveSync and you find the test Note you created under WM6 in Outlook 2007.
Syncing Notes with Outlook Versions prior to Outlook2003 never worked for me.
I had severeal WM Devices but syncing the Notes never worked until i got Outlook2003.
Syncing the files manually is of no use because ActiveSync has no converter for them, so you only get the raw .pwi files on your Desktop.
There are ways to import them manually to Outlook but i haven't found a method to automate this.
This seems to be a General Problem. I found a Microsoft KB Articel concenrning this Problem. Maybe it will be of some use for you.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305544/en
Best thing you can do is upgrading to a newer MS Office Version, neither a New OS nor an other WM Device will solve your Problem.

Please help! im dying without my contacts. this is what happened (typing with my 8525 so bare with me)
I had black satin on my 8525. I have done a couple rom changes and the contact list always resynced automatically everytime.
I had to reformat my computer but I had saved my WM_James_Klafe2 file.
a few days ago I reflashed my 8525 with a new rom and when I synced the phone to the laptop it created a new phone name and folder WM_Owner
when I try to sync contacts through activsync it says I need to disconnect phone, install outlook, run outlook and resync.
I haven't lost anything from reformatting have I? I had a microsoft office 2000 cd but its all scratched and won't install. I downloaded a trial version of student office but it didn't help my situation at all. and I didn't even see outlook in the office student 2007 edition anyway.
in the name of god please help im lost.
just now, with my 8525 disconnected from my laptop. I changed the name on my 8525 from WM_Owner to WM_James_Klafe2 which is what my cell was before and that's the name on the folder on my pc that is holding all my info.
but everytime I connect my cell to my pc via activesync it defults back to WM_Owner.

Try this,
Copy the contents of you sync folder to another folder.
delete the partnership and create a new one.
sync with the new partnership.
then copy all the contents that you saved to that folder.
This worked for me....I sync between two laptops and do this quite often.
Hope that helps.....

still no luck. I tried it and it didn't change anything. still no contacts added to my phone.
I think it has something to do with me not having microsoft outlook installed to my computer but I don't know why it matters. I never used outlook anyway.
on activesync, "contacts" are not one of the "information types" that are sync'ed. On Activesync, when I go to Tools, Options, then try to select Contacts as an item to sync I get a message that says "Activesync cannot synchronize Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes, because outlook is not installed on Windows PC. To Sync Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes do the following: Disconnect the device, Install and run outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
I have outlook express on my pc but that doesn't seem to be good enough.

Sorry dude - Contacts are stored within a file called "outlook.pst" on your PC and not in the syncronised folder(there is sometimes a backup file too called backup.pst), this is a file for Microsoft Outlook NOT Outlook express and it usually lives somewhere around c:/docs & settings/<profilename>/local settings/application data/outlook (varies a tad from OS to OS)
If you still have this file or a backup *somewhere* on your PC (use your search facility) and can re-install Outlook - then you will be able to import this file into Outlook and your contacts from the outlook.pst file will resync to your phone.
If you have deleted (or no longer have) this file on your PC - and you have not used something like PIMbackup on your Hermes then sorry - they've gone.
For information - Outlook contacts is a 2-way sync - ie, scrub your phone and it gets them from the PC. Scrub your PC and it gets them from your phone. Scrub both and they're gone for good unless you've made a backup of either one or the other. Same goes for email, calendar and tasks.

To fix this you need to go to settings>system>About>device ID. You can change the name of your ppc that way (or you can for the Hermes).
Cheers...

I was having the same problem as TC, but that did the trick. Thanks Ultra!
sorry to invade this topic but i have a similar problem in the reversed form however .
i recently formatted my PC but being the idiot i am, i forgot to backup the *.pst file from the Outlook folder. now i still have all my contacts in my phone, but i wanted to know how to transfer them over to Outlook.
Resync to pc after installing outlook. When it asks if you wish to combine or replace items on pc pick combine. If you pic replace it will replace with all the contacts in outlook (none) and unless you have pim backup or another backup of your contacts you will loose everything...
Cheers...

Hello, I am facing a problem syncing the pocket with my PC.
Syncronization nevers ends due to the above error.
Don't know if tehre is something to do with the fact I have done the foirst connection of the pocket with another PC which is not the one I am using now.
If so, what can i do to correct it
My PC WVista business
My pocket WM6 V4.0
To syncronize I use Active Sync
Can some one give me a hand?

Windows Vista does not use ActiveSync but instead uses mibile device center. Use the link above to download and install. This will be the method to sync your X7500 with your Vista PC.

I am sorry Iof course I use WMC not ActiveSync. But the problem is allways. Has somebody the same issue?
I do too
I have this problem too. I've tried checking and unchecking "advanced network functionality" under usb to pc. I've tried deleting partnerships and creating new ones. I've tried changing my device ID. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling wmdc. I've even gone into the pc registry and tried to delete all wm keys and then reinstalling wmdc. Nothing has worked. I wish someone could figure this out!
Jonathan
1) Delete the partnership on Athena and in the WMDC.
2) Restart the PC.
3) Create a new relationship
4) When the name for the device is suggested CHANGE IT from the one you choose for the last partnership.
5) Don't sync mobile favorites
it shoul be solved
and during sync, if isn't still solved, check opening activesync in you device, what is syncing whein it hangs..
Same problem for me
Dont know if this will help anyone but I have discovered a thing or two about syncing with Vista and Outlook 2007 with Exchange.
In Outlook 2007 you can set flags on emails (you can do this in 2003 as well, I know). Anyway, these flags are linked to Tasks and whilst you can sync ordinary tasks from your Outlook with no problem, as soon as you add a flag to an email, Vistas Mobile Device centre throws a bit of a wobbly and goes in an endless syncing cycle or throws up an error when syncing.
To resolve it is quite simple.....either don't sync tasks......or don't set flags on emails rather right click and drag the email in Outlook 2007 to the Tasks folder where you can create a proper task out of the email.
hope this helps
Sacha
Hi guys
I have a problem with synchronizing my mails on my HD2.
I use a live.de-account for collecting all my mails from different providers - so far it works.
But then I wanted to sync those mails on my device. I was a bit suprised that the windows live program always showed up and took over the mail-setup from the inbuild-mailclient in windows mobile to itself.
The first synchronization worked but that was last week -.-.
The windows live program seems connected to the internet and my accountsettings are working (it can show my firstname) but when I want to sync it an error occured "e-mail login failed.please try it later".
I'm not so into this technique but I tried deleting and re-installing/configuring the mail setup. I downloaded the windows live software again (from market place).
I even wrote a support mail to windows but the answers was pretty much the same as in this thread.
As far as I understand the manual it's just synchronizing with outlook on my computer.
But I don't want a) Outlook and b)active-sync (= usb connection to my own computer).
I want a synchronization on the move with wlan or umts but nothing seems to work.
So actually I'm looking for a trick to configure my mail account without windows live software or some help to get it working with the windows live software.
my HD2:
unbranded original
latest official rom-version from htc ( Germany: 3.14.407.2)
Vodafone Germany
windows live software 10.7.0059.0600.1000

The thread there is correct. Which method are you really using? Do you set up hotmail as an exchange server as in the thread, or are you using the live client?
Sorry, but I'm not so into this.
Exchange Server?
In HTC Sense is a mail program and I use that. But when I want to configure a new account it automatically redirects my to windows live. I think windows live intercepts the setup and overtakes it because of the @live.de -ending. If i use other providers - everythings working fine without windows live.

There are two ways to connect to hotmail (aka live mail). The old method is to use the Live mobile, an application that allows you to access several live features. You get mails when you check mail, like POP3. The new method (I think it was released last year) is to use push mail. Configure it as it you have an exchange server, and set the parameters according to the link. New mails will immediately appear on your mobile. Both method should work. With push mail, you don't need to install the live mobile application and you don't need to explicitly check mail.
Ah.
alright,it's working...
sorry but I don't saw any connection between push mail and exchange server..
Ok,now I could deinstall windows live?
It's not necessary any more,right?

Correct. If you are setting up push mail (it uses Exchange Sync protocol so that's why you configure hotmail as exchange), then you no longer needs the Live client (unless you want other features, such as Messenger).
Hi Raizm and Alex,
OK ! The pushmail settings worked perfect for my with HD2 > Outlook > Hotmail settings. (with link settings) THANKS !! I tested this with a kind of 'Spam hotmail account' NOW i have a problem. I cannot change my spam hotmail adres to my real one. It is greyed-out in the settings ?!!! Also tried new account in windows live messenger but alas, still no change (possible) in my userID field....
Thanks very much in advance !!!
Peter
YESSSS FOUND IT, PFFFF
This is a tricky one. You have to go to the activeync !!! (Default Windows menu >> Extra)
There Menu > Options and then delete "Microsoft Exchange Items" with delete button.
THEN you can create a new Exchange account within outlook.
Thought I let you all know.
Thanks anyway
