I just got a HERMES, with tha radio rom
1.16.00.00
32.53.7018.01H
and my spl is 1.10.Oli
I want to upgrade the radio. Some post in this forum say I should have a 1.04 spl for a safe operation.
Is that neccessary? Because I think since 1.10.Oli is based on 1.04. But I am not sure about this. Is there anyone upgrade radio using 1.10.Oli without downgrade? And how?
thanks!
Use the latest 1.40.Oli
Use always the latest version of HardSPL and upgrade the radio in NBH format using the latest CustomRUU.
I installed the 1.38.00.10 but the battery life drops!
It's still the 1.27 the best radio rom for hermes or the last 1.40 is better? TNX

Got it!
Thank you!
And also thanks to ghz.
Done!
Have upgraded the 1.40.Oli Hard SPL from 1.10.Oli, And also upgraded Radio Rom to 1.38.00.11.
But there is still some accident happened.
When I use the RUU, which is from the wiki, and I am sure I use the RUU ONLY.
But when I run it, and choose autodetect spl, I got a wrong warning.(see the pic attached)
I choose force sspl, and follow the steps, and failed. (feel lucky no bricking happened.)
Again I did not use autodetect, choose spl-1.11/1.13/1.30/1.35/1.40, it's done in less than 15 minites.
So, maybe the second time I was doing right?

are you sure your phone isn't asking for comfirmation when you use autodetect? this feature uses the RAPI of the phone and polls a memory area to check the version... if the phone is rejecting the request then you're likely to get this error.

I did not get any infom from the phone screen. Keep my eyes open widely to watch.
Actually I have already flashed Hard SPL v7 in my device. I have done couple times upgrade (from WM5 to WM6 and changed differenet version of Radio)
But everytime when I run the RUUWrapper.exe, I can't use "autodetect" option, the "next" button doesn't show up and "error" message comes, and ask me to use "force SSPL" instead of "autodetect".
I do click "yes" during the process, when it ask me to allow a file to run on my device.(during click on the "autodetect")
Anyway, using force SSPL method works for me, but I just wondering I fully follow all steps from mrvanx guide already, so what is the problem?
And could anyone tell me what's the difference between follow 3 options:
1. SPL 2.02/2.1 new bootloader
2. Force using SSPL
3. Autodetect
during upgrade process?
Sorry that I post this question, Coz' even I have searched this forum, but still a bit confused abt them.
Appreciated.
with that version of spl auto detect does not work....it is a feature.
check the hard spl forum to find more about it.

No need,
you could always choose "SPL 2.02/2.1 new bootloader" and check "Is it Hard-SPL?" when you flash a new ROM.

Thanks, by the way, what is SSPL?
and what if I choose Force SSPL?
Since I have done couple times of upgrades, everytime I choose force using SSPL and this method works.
So I would like to clarify what the difference between them!

You have to use SSPL When you update a new version Hard-SPL,
Because Hard-SPL can only update by SSPL,
If your new ROM include a SPL but you don't know and you check "Force SSPL" and then your Hard-SPL will be covered with the SPL which include in your new ROM,
It's dangerous for your Hermes to lose Hard-SPL,
That's all.

Thanks very much Aikon!
After your explaination and reading lots of articles from web.
I have figured out couple of points, I hope it helps people who are also confused or do not understand what they are doing when flashing radio or ROM.
1. HardSPL v7 could be overwrite when Force using SSPL only. So Force using SSPL only use when u want to flash SPL or new version of HardSPL released. Otherwise, do not use this option
2. Although force using SSPL overwrites IPL/SPL, we do not have IPL/SPL in radio ROM or OS (because we have repackaged the OS). That's why nothing happened even using force using SSPL option
3. Therefore basically after we have HardSPL v7 in our device, we should use "SPL2.02/2.1 new bootloader" and check the "is it hard spl " box everytime when we use RUUWrapper to flash radio or OS ROM
4. That's why using SSPL_HERM.exe method could overwrite SPL, and those people needed to reflash again HardSPL after OS upgrade.
Pls correct me if anything I mislead or wrong.
BTW, I still don't understand why I can't use "Autodetect" option. Since I follow all step from mrvanx guide already.
What I thought is after we have hardspl and using the latest RUUWrapper.exe , everything should be exactly same as what mrvanx guide tells. We should be able to use AUTODETECT instead of "using force SSPL"or "SPL2.02/2.1"
Pls help if anyone knows why!?
Hi kinghung,
I had the same problem and I found out, that you can use "Auto-Detect" when you click first on "is it hard spl". After you activated "is it hard spl" and a click on "Autodetect" you get the right setting marked.
Don't know why it's so, but it works!?

Yes, your viewpoints from 1 to 4 are right,
I don't know the reason why I can't use "Auto Detect",
I always choose manually.
I have lately found the same issue.
But I checked my device and oli 2.10 was there. So I just went ahead and forced the flash. and all was OK.
Ticking off hard SPL and oli 2.10 also worked fine.
The main thing to do is to ensure that you have oli 2.10 on you device before flashing any RUU file.

From my understanding, your points are partial correct.
If there is no IPL/SPL inside the ROM u are going to flash, either using force SSPL or pick 2.02/2.1 SPL , both method work and safe!
But if unfortunately someone flashing a ROM with IPL/SPL inside, the current hardSPL would be overwrote if u using force SSPL!!
It's dangerous!

That's make much more sense to me.
I had the same problem, chose the "Force" option, and now when I check the bootloader option it says SPL-2.Olipr, meaning it hasn't changed, even though I chose the "Force" option.
Wrong tread - moved
AUTODETECT doesn't work for me too. I have HERM100.
By the way - if I choose "SPL-2.02/2.10 New Bootloader" and tick "Is it Hard-SPL?", after clicking "Next", there is a red text saying that this flasher is intended solely for SPL 1.11 and I must have 1.11 Hard-SPL installed. But I have 2.10... should I ignore this? ;/

Hi to everybody.
I have an Hermes 200 Vodaphone VPA compact 2 v1605.
I wanna put into this pda the latest Schap's 4.31 ROM.
I have done the mrVanx procedure and I have successfully installed the 2.10 Hard-SPL-V7.
Now I wiil explain my two problems:
- I don't know if my pda is CID unlocked or not... With the HardSpl flashed on my pda, should I be scared about that or not?
I think HardSPL turn my pda into supercid... right?
- If ROM flashing procedure will be stopped by a pc crash, I can unbrick my pda easily? In wich way?
Should I use the mrVanx guide to flash pda or I follow microsd guide?
Many thanks
I should have read the wiki. Either way, and since nobody helped me when i needed and i had to find it all by myself, i know how frustrating it might be. So ill give u hand.
First go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
Download that tool that will superCID ur phone and Hard SPL it automatically. Pay attention to every step.
After that, and since the hard spl installed by that tool is rather old, go here:
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=26
In the middle of that tuturial u will find the link to the mostly used version of hard spl and how to update ur rom to one of the cooked ones around here.
Soz if my english aint perfect but im not english nor american though.^^
Thanx for reply. But i think you haven't understand my question.
I think my pda is already SuperCID because i have installed the 2.10 HardSPL.
Somewhere in this forum or in the wiki i found that if I flash my pda with 2.10 HardSPL I don't have to use unlocker because this version allow SUPERCID mode.
Am I wrong???
My pda is also already sim unlocked. Infact it is Vodofane (english or german) but i can use TIM italian sim card without problems.
Now my question is:
If I write the schap's ROM with SD procedure, should I scared about RADIO ROM damage?
I found that schap's ROM doesn't modify RADIO, right?
..so i think that SD procedure is the safer way.
Thanks
Not really, most if not all cooked roms DON'T have the radio rom cooked in as there is no perfect rom for everyone, its carrier compliant. Just because a new radio rom comes out doesn't mean its going to improve your reception or battery life, sometimes it causes problems, hence the chefs give you the option of what radio to use.
Now, Hard SPL is only a safety net, things can still go wrong but if they do there is a load of information on how to fix it, ESPECIALLY if you've installed Hard SPL. Make sure its version 7 so the spl reads as 2.10 olipro when you enter bootloader (power button, ok button above flywheel and reset with stylus, hold in until you get to tricolour screen). Just soft reset with stylus to get out.
Personally, as you have Hard SPL, I'd use the sd card method to flash your os. Its on the forum MANY times over. A quick search should find it. VERY EASY and, I believe, safer than using the pc. Just make sure the battery is charged.
Hope this helps....
Cheers....

Yes i have HardSPL v7 2.10 installed on my pda.
This mean I'm in supercid mode and I'm able to flash any rom. right?
I haven't to use the sim cid unlcker, right?
I haven't understand this:
At the moment I don't want to change my RADIO ROM.
Latest schap's ROM doesn't modify RADIO so my radio ROM remain the same. Is this true?
If I flash schap's ROM should I to flash a RADIO ROM that works with schap's one? Or does my RADIO continue to work?

I have a brand new hermes since last week and i passed a lot of blocking and stucking in the bootloader. However, the first ROM i installed was Schaps one and on that time i didn't even have my phone Hard SPL'ed or SuperCID'ed! I used that tool of SSPL. But if u say ur phone is already Hard SPL you will have no problems installing the schaps rom. In addition, the RADIO ROM will not be modified with his rom. I must say that besides his ROM was installed perfectly, there are some other cooked ROMs that require your phone to be SuperCID'ed.
Thanks for your reply.

I mean: my pda now has no problem about RADIO and I don't want to change nothing about RADIO ROM.

Thanks
You won't change your radio rom and yes it will still work with ANY rom you use (as long as its for the Hermes).

It works good on mine. And no, it doesnt modify your ROM.
As stated before, the chefs tend to let YOU decide what radio to use... There is no perfect radio rom and location/carrier seems to determine what is the best radio for you.
Cheers...
I put the rom in microsd renamed in HERMIMG.nbh
I start the bootloader withe ok + power + stylus but the flash procedure doesn't start. I have only the bootloader screen with 4 rows:
RED HERM200
IPL-1.04
HERM200
SPL-2.10 OLIPRO
GREEN
BLUE
WHITE SERIAL
what's the matter?
p.s.
I'm using a 2g sandisk
with 1gb microsd sandisk it works!!

Due to display flickering issue which is worse and worse from day to day. I decided to restore stock rom for my T-Mobile MDA Vario IV to make a complain.
My device is Security Unlocked, with different Radio and ROM so i would like to know if my steps for reverting is ok. I do not want to make my device bricked!!
I have EXE file with ROM from T-Mobile www which includes all like SPL, RADIO, ROM etc.
So my conclusion what i have read is that i have to:
1) restore stock Radio
2) remove security lock
3) remove Hard-SPL
4) flash stock ROM from EXE file i have already downloaded. It will overwrite 1.90 SPL to 1.69 which was my default and overwrite ROM too.
Can anyone experienced with this stuff tell me if i am right? thank a lot.
With the steps you have listed you will be good to go. Just follow your steps and you are good.

I am not a noob i have read this many times, so i know what is the "official" routine. But this (official) routine was, i think made, for people who had no choice (as me with original exe) and they had to dump their ROM first, and than reconstruct part by part. And because the dumped ROM will never be CID safe, they had this tutorial 1. Radio, 2. OS, 3. SPL and it rally does make sense for me.
But i am lucky, because my operator (T-Mobile) shipped the device with EXE, which contains all the stuff (Radio, SPL, OS, RUU) and it is directly for my CID. So that is why i think my tutorial in the first post will work. And i think it should work though if i only remove Security unlock and Hard-SPL. Because it will overwrite all partitions in device even restored Radio, OS etc.
So am i right ?
your right and to save you step dont worry bout radio removal since its in the stock rom pack like u said just load the 1.90 for warrenty in the hard spl thread and relock your phone as an extra precation(some carriers care some dont) the run the exe and ure golden
ps. PimBackup is your friend (just in case u forgot)

Dear not a noob,
You asked a question, and you were given the "official" routine. If you knew the "official" routine, and you were going to do it your way anyway, it kinda makes your question unnecessary. I remind you that you are not the only person who reads these forums. In fact more than a hundred have read this thread. Some of these people "noobs" or not may want to know the "official" routine.
I personally don't care what you do or where you put your phone. But if anyone reading this thread follows the official routine they will not have any problems.
I understand why people don't like answering questions in these forums. No good deed etc etc......

Dear Ray,
you did not understand my question. That is all that i can say about it. I know about official routine to restoring stock defaults, but i was asking if my routine could lead me to same result. Because as from what i have learned in this forum this routine should lead me to the same result more easier way because i have RUU with stock ROM direct for my CID.
Your way i have to first extract nbh image from exe. Second i have to extract each nb from nbh. Third i have to make nbh from each nb, radio is not necessary, because it is already here. And for fourth my SPL is 1.69.0000 which is different from SPL contained in the Hard-SPL removing pack and it does not work for me just to replace the SPLs. And until now i did not find out why. Someone few months ago told me that i can use the SPL from Hard-SPL removing pack (1.90.0000 i think) and then overwrite it with my stock ROM package, which will restore my stock SPL and Radio, OS again as well. So official routine works for those who had to dump their ROM to backup their stock ROM, those who were not as lucky as me to have stock ROM with RUU for their CID. This procedure, i personaly think is OK, is not covered here on the forum, and that is why i was aking for blessing from someone more involved in this problmes...is it ok now?
PS: anything i can flash after removing Security Lock and Hard-SPL is my stock ROM and that is what i have. So it should work if there are not some any other things which i have missed somewhere!
Tom
bah dont worry bout them crackheads say i can speak from experience that your way work since thats exactly what i did last week only att exe pack and it did overite the 1.90 stock spl, changed to 1.95 in my case, like u say along with the radio and os. only diferance is i never security unlocked my phone sincei was happy with the raphel radios . now im happy with my new(well refurblished ) fuze.
p.s. i had defective screen too incase you were wondering
Everybody play nice
Ok, that being said, since you have the "official" exe from your Carrier, all you really have to do is:
Run the .exe from your Carrier - this will replace the stock Radio, ROM, and boot splash.
Install the warranty stock SPL 1.90 from the Hard-SPL thread (using the Hard-SPL RUU, of course).
Re-run the .exe from your Carrier, which will overwrite the 1.90 SPL with the stock version.
Other methods will likely work too, but IMHO, that's the easiest .

Positive. That's actually how I used to "flash to stock" in between custom ROM flashes.
I am reading forums for few days now, i would like to install WM 6.5 on my touch dual, but i just dont get what i need to do. Is there some step by step tutorial.
Also, i am interested in android too, i tried one of them but it was poor. Is there some android for htc that actually works, and can be used normally?
Thank you
First off all, welcome.
If you just want to know how to start just read the first two stickies of this thread.
Regards,
Yes i read stickies but i dont get what i need to install, that is in what order, and which ROMs i need to use.

Hmm, okay first we need to know what type off phone you have, you can find that under your battery, by me it's displayed Niki100.
Second one, which is important, is your device simlocked.
Regards,
I have it too Nikki100
No it is not sim locked
Okay, sorry for the late reply, but I was at my work, and also tonight I have to leave, if you don not have a simlock the only thing you have to do can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=631493 just read carefull and if you still don't know how it works just let me know and I will help you.
This is how i did it:
1. I just started at step 4, and copied the sspl 1.16 to my phone.
2. Turned the phone off.
3. Removed sim and sd-card
4. Turn on the phone and launched sspl 1.16
5. Connect on computer and usb appears.
6. Running hardspl 1.22
Thats all, I'm not sure if it is the right way but it worked for me.
Important:
Use at your own risk! I'm not responsible for any damage to your device.
Regards,
Ok so i run sspl 1.6 and i got the phone in bootloader mode, connected USB and nothing happens. What i should now try to put wm 6.5 ROM?

No, before you flash a rom, you have to flash Hardspl 1.22
Greetz,
You did not mentioned hardspl above?!?!
and what about that radio ROM do i have to flash that too.
I dont get you, so i run sspl, and i get bootloader, what now, do i flash hardspl while in that bootloader or?

Hi again, you only need to flash Hardspl 1.22 or 1.15 but they say that 1.22 is better, and yes you can do that in bootloader.
And why you have to do this is, because if you only use sspl you have to do that everytime you want to flash a rom with hardspl you only have to do this once and you can flash all the rom's (for the Niki) what you want, so this means if you can succesfull flash the hardspl 1.22 you are done with this and you can search for rom's you like
Hopefully I'll gave you enough information but if you want to ask something you can always ask, there is just a small thing with the radio but I explain that after you did the hardspl.
Greetz,
