Hi,
It really depends what rom your using. I'm using the O2 original rom on this its Start>Settings>Screen>Landscape left or right>then launch TomTom.
Hope this is more helpful than the last reply!

heh. Long day. And instead of spending my time guessing what phone, ROM, apps, etc. besides TOMTOM he is using, searching is the best option. There are TONS of threads already with this info.

thanks for that mark. searched but couldn't find it
If it's tomtom 6 you are using then it's a non starter. The facility for landscape mode was taken out. You could go back to tomtom 5.2 as this has the facility in one of the preference menus. Theres little difference in navigation barring the updated maps.

It may have been taken out of tomtom but you can still run it in landscape. Set your ppc in landscape mode then run tomtom. Therefore tomtom runs in landscape mode...........................................

You can asign a hardware button to rotate to landscape function and press it before starting TomTom. When you close it you just press it again.
wow.. why can't people just be nice and help. I have tomtom 6 and run in landscape all the time.. the method i use is as follows.
I mapped the rotate function to the camera button (don't use it THAT often) so after i start tomtom.. but press the camera button and viola!

I do it the same way, but i have it mapped to voice button, and it works great!!! dont use it that much with tomtom, but you can!
One thing, why would you want to? cus i find myself that due to the screen size, it is better running Por as when in land you have a smaller screen! due to the bits at the bottom, but i guess it everyone to them selfs! LOL hehehehe
I prefer landscape as the ETA, milage etc. figures in the bottom right are in a bigger font and easier to see while driving. I also map screen rotation to a hardware button but wouldn't it be good if TT brought the function back and so give us back one of our precious buttons.

[UPDATE: See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7141176 in this thread for an updated version of the program, with links to new screen shots and documentation]
[UPDATE: See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795753 for the Windows Phone 7 version of this program.]
I've written a program for reading eBooks on Windows Mobile devices. It can read txt, html and (DRM-free) ePub files.
For other formats you can use Calibre to convert them epub.
The program is called 'Freda' - short for 'free reader', since it is free software (both in the sense of 'free beer', as I am not charging for it, and in the sense of 'free speech', as I am licensing my code under the GPL).
It's released now, so please download it and let me have any feeback. (BTW that link points to the WinMo version of Freda; for the Windows Phone 7 version, please go here)
The program uses three third-party libraries, DotNetZipLib, OpenNetCF and the Majestic-12 HTMLParser library; all are licensed on terms permitting their redistribution for commercial and non-commercial purposes. More information is here
Happy reading!
Hi Folks,
It's here: version 1.1 of Freda is now released.
Main new features:
CSS Style sheets are recognised
Controls/gestures can be customised
Line spacing, indent and justification can be customised
Bookmarks and annotations are provided
Dictionary look-up is implemented (using SlovoEd)
See the freda home page for more details, and for download locations.
Any problems or questions, please let me know.
Discussion for this release can be followed from this post on.
Thanks,
Jim
Briljant,
Its the first epub reader that i found on my diamond that is able to render my epub newspaper correctly. Including links and images.
(the standaard is doing a test this week only with an epub version of its newspaper)
A few remarks to help you with the beta version (witch already is a keeper for me)
I had to install freda into main memory for it to start up.
The splash screen seems to to big, the text on it is cut off left and right, i have a vga screen.
The liberary display setting (icons or details) are not saved.
Thanks for the feedback - I'm working on those items now. [fixed in release 1.0]
Thanks,
Jim
Thanks for this program.
I'm a long time reader on PDAs and there was the need for something new.
I've just installed it now and I'll come back with some comments asap.
Looking forward to your feedback. Over at mobileread, I've been getting some feedback that CSS formatting is an important feature, so I'm particularly keen to hear the forum's view on that (because the beta 0.9 version of the program doesn't handle CSS formatting at all).
Cheers,
Jim
this is a really nice app!
I'd like to see an autoscroll in full screen mode if possible, this makes late night reading sessions a bit easier (less chance of being moaned at because of tapping buttons)
I'm not certain how easy it would be to control speed of scrolling on something like my touch HD with virtually no buttons though..
it's replaced mobipocket for me.
Autoscroll speed
Yes I had wondered about implementing autoscroll, but wasn't sure what would be a good mechanism for controlling the speed. I was thinking it would be kind of cool to control it using the acceleromter (gravity sensor) - something like 'tilt more to scoll faster' ... but I've not really throught it through. Ideas welcome.

one option would be to use the volume buttons to speed up and down, but it may not work in the 6.5.x builds as the MS volume control seems to takeover.
accelerometer is an option, but it could be frustrating when you move the device accidentally, unless you set up a control key such as long press talk/send, to enable the gsensor speed control only when the control key is called.

Yep. And also it means that it's less of an issue when the customers complain and ask for their money back .
error on my Opal (QVGA).
my 2 cents after one day.
Reader is good, fast and has a good pagination system.
It's really confortable to swipe up the thumb to change page, nice idea. Sometimes i was mad using mobipoket because when you tap, it may happen that you highlight the text instead of changing page. (i don't use hardware buttons expecially during night)
I'm gonna use this reader from now on I think.
Possible improvements from my point of view:
1) i'd like to have an option that allows auto opening of the last read ebook when opening Freda. Why opening the library every time?
2) It would be good to have a couple of presets regarding the color scheme. Usually I use white backgroung and black text during day and black background and grey/red text during night readings.
3) add the possibility to change page by tapping the screen. So, hardware button, or swipe thumb or tap.
Other less important improvements:
4) i usually read in portrait....but maybe add the possibility to read in landscape would be appreciated.
5) it would be nice to add the possibility to change also backlight power in the point 2) presets. IE: during night time low backlight, black background and gray text.
Finally let me add that the improvements I pointed out should help to make the program better (from my point of view) but Freda is really good already as it is, so don't consider them as a critic.
And congrats for the nice work.

Did you get this error after installing the application onto the Storage Card? Because right now (Beta 0.9 version) that doesn't work. The application has to be in main memory. For version 1.0 I will fix that. [fixed in release 1.0]
If you got the error even though the app was installed in main memory, then it's a problem that I haven't seen before. Normally that error message means that one of the program's DLLs or resource files is missing - and I thought that they were all present and correct in the install package. If you could PM me (or email on jim(at)turnip.demon.co.uk) with a listing/screenshot of all the contents of the \Program Files\Freda folder, I will take a look and see if I can spot the problem.
Thanks for the feedback.

Right now, I need to reserve the 'tap screen' gesture for bringing up the main menu. I guess I could have a mode whereby it's tap-and-hold to bring up the menu, and quick-tap to page forward. I'm a little concerned though that if I have too many different 'command modes' I will end up with something like uBookReader which (though otherwise a fine piece of software) drives me crazy with trying to figure out which mode it is in. Another option would be to reserve tap-near-bottom-of-screen to mean 'page down' and tap-near-top-of-screen to mean scroll up. What do you think?

This should work already - if you can get the device into landscape mode, Freda will work in landscape mode. Freda relies on the operating system to tell it whether to work in landscape or portrait. On my HTC Touch Pro 2 I can switch modes by flipping the keyboard. For devices without a keyboard, you should try the G-Config application - run G-Config and follow the instructions (i.e. switch to Freda and then insert the stylus, then soft reset). Now, when you hold the device in landscape orientation, Freda should switch to landscape mode. You can find G-Config at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487991

Well.....I think that both options are good.....so you should choose the easiest to implement.
I think I would slightly prefer the second one: tap the bottom for one page increase, tap the upper part for one page decrease.

oh... oh... i've installed the wrong file.
ok i'll try that. thanks!
I made this program in answer to a request in the HD2 General forum, but thought I should post it here.
It's a small app that toggles the display orientation back and forth to the rotation of your choice, without the need for the g-sensor.
The default installation includes the settings screen (available from your start menu), and the application itself, which is available via a long-hold of the call button. When the application is first installed, it defaults to standard landscape (the left of the phone being the bottom), but this can be changed via the settings screen.
BIG THANKS!! to vonski and Eldorado9 for their patience and testing. Thanks guys
Have fun
Note:
Manila doesn't like being forced into landscape, so you can't use this app for that - sorry. It works upside-down, just not sideways. (I've got a HD2 with Sense/Manila 2.5)
Also, I've only tested this on a WVGA device and would like to know how it works on other resolution devices, so please feel free to private message me with any feedback regarding this.
Change details (26/01/2010)
Removed the long_send link that was originally being installed in the Windows folder.
For some reason, when you press the call button to answer a call, it executes the long_send link, despite only being a quick send.
This only happens when there's an incoming call. I've removed this link from the installer, but you still execute the toggle with a long-hold of the call button.
NOTE: The installer will remove the long_send link from your windows folder.
Change details (13/01/2010)
Added the settings screen so there's now only 1 installer, instead of 3.
If you do have the previous version, you can simply delete it from the windows folder, or just leave it and install this one.
It will override the existing version's functionality, despite being able to install it on your storage card now.
Great Job!
John,
Great job and thanks for this. First thing that comes to mind is why did you not combine these into one programme so one can have the option to go left, right or upside down without having to install 3 separate apps?
If its not difficult to do and you can spare the time to do it then I would be very interested in a single combined app that I could run off my quicklinks.
I'm subscribing to this thread to watch developments.
Thanks again.

It actually is 1 program, but the shortcut (long_send) is different in each zip file, and that tells the app which direction to rotate the display.
This started because someone asked for an app that would put their display in landscape and then back again, with a long-hold on the call button. After I'd done that for them, someone else asked for the opposite direction. Whilst doing that I remember that someone had once asked how to change the display to upside-down, so I did that at the same time.
The main idea here is that you pick a default rotation, and then you only have a button press to toggle it on and off. Anything more than that would require a UI and therefore more interaction, and since I'm trying to keep interaction to a minimum, that sort of goes against the principle of it.
I'll have a think about it though, but I think what you're suggesting is a completely different application. I'm not against doing that, but it won't be part of the development of this.
Thanks for the suggestion mate
Ah ok, I see. Also understand the "minimalist" philosophy behind the development.
The way I would use a programme like this would be to have it as a quicklink on my front screen (I tend not to link things to hardware buttons) which would then give me the options of (L)eft, (R)ight or (U)pside Down. If that requires a UI (I guess it does) then don't go to all that trouble.
The problem with me is I don't always rotate my device the same way all the time (I'm weird like that) although upside down is a new one on me (I remember Tubgirl, I think, asking for that).
Cheers anyway.
WB

Just a quick question:
I use the Standard Windows Hardware Button Assignment and mapped my internet browser button with "rotate Screen"...
now here for the question: Is it possible to write that app for other buttons too? 'cause i'd love to have multifunction on my browser button and your app is almost perfect for it^^ short press = Opera, long hold = rotate... that would be SO AWESOME!!!!
btw: your app is great as it is now.... it's just a question^^

I think to do what you've suggested, you'd need something like AEButtons. I've never used it myself, but I believe you can assign different actions for long and short button presses to hardware buttons.
Hope this helps

Heh - They're far from honed! If it were a windows (PC) app I was building, I'd have no problems. I'm pretty nifty around windows on a PC, but mobile dev is pretty new to me, so I'm just picking it up as I go along. Hi Everyone
Sorry if this has been asked before (can't find on searches)

Any help will be appreciated

I know the registry to map the camera key but after reset the changed reg value resets back to default . If you're interested in experimenting further in that i can tell you, other than that i don't know how to map other keys, sorry.

Maybe a prg called AE Button plus is what you need..I don´t use it myself so can´t tell much
AE Button Plus
This is single-handedly the greatest program I have on my TG01, common .... think about it ... what is the one problem that we all have with out TG01's? ... well.. how about this.. it only has 6 buttons, and all of them are very necessary. Can you remap your power button? Well the power button is kinda important.. isn't it? How about the volume up and down button? No... those are kinda important too.. ahhh how about the camera button.. I don't need a friekin' camera anyways(being sarcastic here).. the thing is is that we can't remap anything... unless you install AE Button Plus.
but....... You can remap each key (haven't tried the power button ehheeh) including the softkeys "home" and the button that looks like "<-", here is the nifty thing, you can remap them to respond to 1, 2, or 3 clicks, or long press, so each button can now have at least 2-3 items mapped to them. You can setup an audio record and audio stop button with Resco Audio Recorder all mapped to your camera key and still have your camera key work as normal, so essential your camera key has 4 keys mapped to it. If you hold it down for a long press then it will bring up the camera, then a short press will take a photo, if you press it two times then it will start recording in Resco Audio Recorder, and if you hit it three times then it will stop. This is how I setup mine. I also mapped the "<-" softkey button so that a double click will bring up the SPB Mobile Shell Task Manager. I mean, it is the greatest thing ever. Also, I bought it yesterday through handago for only 5.99 dollars cuz I have a 25% off coupon. Then when you buy it, the annoying 5 start-up splash screen doesn't appear at boot time from your device. Here is the info.
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php - developers website, after you buy the item then you want to go back here and download the latest version v2.6.6.2, also, you have to activate it through the website using the registration code that you received from Handango.
http://www.handango.com/catalog/Pro...&deviceId=2180&platformId=30&productId=182670 - Buy the item here, you can get 25 percent off of the purchase price by using the coupon "GAMES25", I know it is not a game, but it worked for me ehheehhe. The version that is downloaded from Handango is version v2.6.5. I have been using the "GAMES25" coupon for about 6 months now eheheh, I think they forgot to expire this coupon ehehhe.
Seriously pplz, try the trial, this is the best 5 bucks I have ever spent on software, is the absolute proverbial icing on cake, such a nice finishing touch to my TG01. All in all, this program adds more than 20 new buttons to our devices. Seriously, also I just thought of something you know how you added the little joystick functionality to your usb port (http://www.fpsece.net/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=423&start=0), now you can program those joystick buttons to do additional things too heheh, this program for me has truly completed my phone.
Now if someone can help me with my non-mounting SD card problem I would much appreciate that!!! hehehehee.... hope this helps someone.
-Kili.
PS: When mapping the softkeys, for some reason you have to go from right to left, so map the "<-" key first, then the zoom bar then the home key or something like that, but there is an order to it, just a weird quark and also, there are issues, in particular the newest versions of TouchFlo3D that block some buttons so AE Button Plus is unable to intercept and process them. One definitely needs to test AE Button Plus and see if it will work as you before purchasing. EHHEEHH This is my disclaimer section!

Don't give up on it yet. Many including myself thought that way at first, but when ppl started cooking new roms things got much better. Now i can boldly say that i dont regret buying this phone, especially at such a bargain price. Try the 6.1 rom from here (ffboy must get all the credit for it), read about how to flash a new rom here (SDDL+ Method) and in a few minutes you will have a totaly new phone!! Sound is very very clear (no more comlaints about not being heard etc.), no gps connection problem, free boot ram higher than ever and battery life at it's best.
Good luck! Phone is great, give it another chance!

I've been using this program for ages. It's a pity that TG01 has so few hardware buttons:
Anyway: My settings:
volume up for:
1 Single press: Press PageDn (very useful reading)
2 Double press: Ok/Close
3 Triple press: Switch Display Off/On
Volume down for
1 Single press: Resco Audio Recorder -rec (This device don't have REC button.....)
2 Double press: Resco Audio Recorder -exit
3 Triple press: Switch Display Off/On
I'm also using the useless zoom bar to change apps (Like ALT+TAB)
How to?:
Tap Left softkey: File
Add button
Add Key (Touch the zoom bar: The program detects Key code 405C as Win Key)
Tap Add Key
You'll have a new button called Button #405C
Tap & Hold over the new line (Button #405C) and assign Alt+Tab to it
The program ask to self reset, say Yes and .... here you are!
Enjoy!
Thank you Thank you Thank you
Thanks Guys

Also playing with MSVC and my TG01...
If you want a simple free alternative, you can use HButton 2.3 to remap camera button.

Ok Getting tired of this.. I Hate HTC keyboard, but I love Gingerbreads.. However I hate the Fact that when I text someone or type its looks like this :
hello.this.is.a.test to. see what.happens
The Perioid is in the way or the spacebar needs to be bigger I cant decide? Anyone else have this issue?
I Tried using swype but I dont have the Patients for it. Its a great concept just not for me? Any Solutions out there?
Is there anyway to get the OG Droids soft keyboard layout on the Tbolt?
I don't know what's wrong with your keyboard but I'm typing this on gingerbread keyboard and its working fine. I don't have any issues with it. I have also used Swype but for some reason, lately it doesn't seem to figure out what I'm trying to swype so I switched to this keyboard and have been quite happy.

Download the gingerbread keyboard from the market. That's what I finally had to do. I had the same issues. Just the way I use the keyboard i guess.

I'm the same way. The only respite I've found is from using other keyboards from the market. Just look around and try some different ones, and find out which works best for you.
I found that if I make the settings key always hide and move the mic key to the symbols page it makes the spacebar a bit longer and easier to hit w/o touching the period. might be worth a shot for you guys.

Care to share? I'm not seeing it.
Settings > language & keyboard > gb keyboard > voice input
You also might want to try out swiftkey, as I haven't had any issues with it. It is leaps and bounds better than the stock keyboard.
is there a way to change the "done" button to "send" like in the regular froyo keyboard? annoying to have to press the "done" button and select "send" in the next screen.
UPDATE: Noticed this only happens in landscape mode. Regular view shows "send" key and "attachment key". what gives? is this a flaw in the app?

Nothing beats Swiftkey. Most ingenious keyboard around and works as well as advertised. I just don't like that sometimes it lags as it pulls predictions from my history. Maybe because I have so many SMS?
The trick with the mic and settings key (set to always hide) worked! Thanks. I like the GB keyboard for a change of pace.

This. And I hid the voice and settings buttons to make the spacebar bigger. But I am using swiftkey, its better in my opinion. The prediction engine is excellent and saves me from typing at all.

What you're holding is not an iPhone, friend.
So there is no way to change the function of the double tap on the key? Perhaps to something more useful as some probably have no use for the voice command system. Can anyone answer this? And yes I'm sure the op is aware that he or she does not hold an iPhone.
if this is a problem for you, an iphone is the better choice

maybe the iphone it is a better choice for the people who doesnt want to modify their OS and work with a fixed one instead of what their want in personal use.
long press for a ****ty multitask it is not the way to go, and with 3 keys 2 click on home is the faster way until we got a multitask like windows mobile 6.5 with taskfacade or something and a click on notification bar to use.

I whole-heartedly agree, and I actually have a hard time believing that your question was met with all those snarky comments from a forum dedicated to customizing the most customizable mobile OS on the planet.
I too would like to be able to change the default home double click behaviour. I'm sure it can be done, i just don't know how. Any ideas, people?

I'll give you a sensible response, as of yet, you can't change the double tap function on the S2. It may be customized in the future but so far you'll just have to live with the annoying voice control app.
I hope that helps
Thanks for the non-sarky response

Indeed it helps. Cheers!
I've seen an application called multitasking pro that supposedly opens with a double tap of the home button. But I guess it wouldn't work on S2 yet, huh?

I don't know, Install it and see, I doubt it will work though, I doubt it'll be able to override a stock Samsung app.

Wow, way to be an ass. Never heard of Quick Desk?
All the multitasking of the iPhone from double tap, but with the option to add widgets as well?
If that's not one upping the iPhone at it's own game then I don't know what is.
I for one know I'd rather have a multi tasking app than a voice search I'll never use.
Anyway, the closest i've found is http://android.modaco.com/content/s...odaco-com/340047/take-control-of-home-button/ but this is only working on KE2 as of the moment.
Guys, what I'd like is a long hold on the BACK button to bring up the multi-task menu, this would feel like less of an effort than the long press on HOME.
