Warranty / Newb questions.. - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I've been trying to read up as much as I can thru the wiki and through the threads but it seems that theres so many technical posts but no posts covering simple questions, so I thought I'd post some here.
1) I first got my hermes (SPV m3100) in February and unlocked it with (I think) pofs tool at the time, it worked a treat, I think that the tool at the time made it super CID as well as unlocking it. Does this pretty much mean my warranty is void already?
If it does, can I revert back to normal CID? (My Bootloader is 1.04 if this helps)
2) The wiki goes a lot about upgrading but doesn't really cover downgrading - I see there is an Orange English rom - if things dont work properly and I want to revert to original, is this possible? Is there a way to revert back to a rom that will still be valid for warranty (for the UK at least)?
3) Will upgrading radio to latest version or bootloader to oli void warranty?
Sorry I know that a lot of these qs might seem simplistic and have been answered many times but I've been searching and it's quite difficult to just get simple answers! Thanks for your help.

I think that may be an Orange Romania Rom in the wiki.

v1 did not make your device SuperCID. Versions v2 and v2a made your device SuperCID without allowing you to choose, since v3 you could choose if you wanted to SuperCID or not.

Depending on your operator, some operators such as SoftBank will not exchange device under warranty if it is SuperCID, others like Cingular do not check it and exchange the device without problems.

If your device still has htc_boot 0107 and you _really_ need it for warranty reasons contact me. If you have ever flashed a radio with htc_boot 0108 then you can't revert back (at least we don't know how yet).

This is not important anymore, with SSPL you can upgrade & downgrade bootloader versions to your liking.

yes, just flash everything as you had in the original rom, this is not a problem if your original ROM is available as a shipped update, otherwise you'll have to do some work: take the parts that are the same from any other ROM (ipl, spl, splash screens, radio...) take the ExtROM from wiki or copy it from another device if it's not on wiki and reconstruct the OS from a dumped ROM if your shipped OS is not available, check this comment for more info.

Yes and no: Obviously if you return it for warranty with a radio or a bootloader that was not the one shipped on the phone or an official rom upgrade the operator will possibly deny the warranty for you, but if you are clever enough you will manage to downgrade that and leave it to the original versions you had on your phone.

Current unlocker version (v3a) does 4 things:
1. Change your SPL to HardSPL-1.40
2. Change your radio to patched-1.16
3. Remove operator SIM-Lock (Only if you run Herm_Unlock_v3.exe and select this option)
4. Change your CID to SuperCID (Only if you have htc_boot <= 0107 and run Herm_Unlock_v3.exe and select this option)
Out of this you can revert:
1. Flash any SPL version you want using SSPL
2. Change your radio to any version you want, and this is highly recommended as the patched 1.16 is quite an old radio.
3. No one has ever asked me to SIM-Lock again a device to any MSL code, but this is possible, so if you would ever need to SIM-Lock it feel free to PM me and tell me which MSL you want.
4. As I said earlier, set your CID back from a SuperCID is only possible if your htc_boot is 0107, should be possible on newer htc_boot but we don't know yet how.

pof, Can I have the tools to gain back CID?. I still have htc_boot 0107.

I just looked up the Wiki, but did not find anything. I did SUper CID v2a for sim unlocking, but never flashed anything except WM6, but flashed back to T-Mob Vario 2 Germany-Rom. How do I find out which htc_boot-Version I have and how do I change back to CID? I do`nt need SCID, so I`d like to get back CID again!

What is done to make it SuperCID? I would like to set my CID back from a SuperCID, but my htc_boot is 0108. Is it not possible because the htc_boot 0108 cannot be downgraded, and the SuperCID resides within htc_boot? If this is the case, can I just upgrade htc_boot to erase the SuperCID?

@kuekpeow: read point 4 on the reply you quoted again..... changing the CID was only possible on htc_boot 0107, not possible on newer radio bootloaders... upgrading it does not help, and we don't know how to downgrade it yet.

Pof, I'd just like to thank you for your help in this thread! I've managed to successfully upgrade! Cheers!

I'm a real noob with this stuff, but I had to try WM6 Black to see if my issues with the Jasjam (screen locks completely - requiring the battery to be removed for over 10 mins), would be fixed. It is still locking after the upgrade and so I want to take the phone back to be repaired, but I'm worried that the repairers will try stating that the warranty is void because of me changing to WM6. When I try to load the original rom back on (latest supplied by I-Mate), the update starts and then my connection through Activesynch drops out (using USB). I have tried searching for information throughout the forum, but I find it all difficult to find anything on this issue. Can someone please help me with instructions for what to do.
The problem I have is that I bought the phone in Aus, but I am working in China, so I have to make sure everything is squared off before I send the phone back.
Cheers.

I want to CID my device again in case of warranty.
What do I have to do?
mtty says following:
USB>rtask a
Enter Radio Bootloader
0106
and now? what has to be done?
edit: Unlocked with Unlocker V2a, running original T-Mobile-Germany-Rom, no Radio-Upgrade or something in that way, just tried WM6 and flashed back.

No idea? :-(

Disadvantages in downgrading to bootloader 1.04?

Are there any downsides to downgrading to bootloader v1.04?
Does v1.06 have anything extra that v1.04 doesn't?
I have an X01HT (v1.06)
Is it possible that future ROM upgrades could be tied to the bootloader version?
Thanks

Bootloader 1.06 enforces CID checking, bootloader 1.04 doesn't.
Bootloader 1.06 doesn't have 'rtask' command, bootloader 1.04 does.
rtask command allows you to do some "interesting" things, for example enter radio bootloader, and GSM AT command interface, where you can type AT commands to the phone from bootloader. Read the wiki Hermes bootloader page for more info.

No, it has less things... rtask command removed
The "extra" thing is that your CID is checked when flashing a ROM, so you can't flash ROMs that are made for other Hermes devices such as HTC TyTN or Cingular 8525 on your X01HT.

it is possible, but unlikely to happen, shouldn't worry you too much now.
Thanks for the quick reply, pof.
I guess that if a ROM were to be tied to bootloader v1.06 then someone would have to make a bootloader only upgrade... Do you foresee and potential issues there. (excluding copyright issues?
Thanks

No issues at all, and no "bootloader only upgrade" needed... if you are on 1.04 you just have to flash any ROM containing bootloader 1.06 to have bootloader 1.06 on your device. Then you could do the 'tied-to-1.06' upgrade.
But at the moment 1.06 and 1.04 are very similar, the only difference I've noticed is 'rtask' command and CID checking. rtask command also allows you to go radio bootloader and flash the 'extracted radio rom upgrades' (using rwdata), so you can't do a radio-only upgrade in 1.06 at the moment.
Anyway... I am investigating the way to provide an alternative method to go from 1.06 to 1.04 without copyright issues (as with the previous method from imei-check). Now I can jump from WinCE to IPL at physical address 0x0000000 and then the IPL reads the SPL from flash and executes it correctly.
The next step is to load the nb file for SPL 1.04 and place it in RAM at 0x3000000, and instead of jumping to IPL jump to SPL when this is done it will be possible to downgrade the bootlodaer for those of you on 1.06
Sounds like you are close to a solution. I read in a another thread that you said you are not a WINCE programmer, but you seems like you have a good grasp of low level programming. Best of luck!
I'm getting a lot of help from some friends, i wouldn't have reached this without their help, and I like to learn new things
What we're doing is modifying gnuharet to remove the linux-loading part and add very few changes in the ARM9 assembly part, if you're interested see the file src/wince/asmstuff.S.

I guess it should be possible to do in wince by directly calling a rilgsm ioctl
(should work on universal, the equivalent code runs the phone in Linux).
devspecific code=54
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=rilgsm.dll
cr2, yes it is possible... this is what my unlocker does to do the [email protected] commands and uses almost the same code as buzz used on the universal.
EDIT: I read you too fast, I'm using RIL_DevSpecific commands to send the [email protected], but didn't read the code=54. Have to try this, thanks for pointing it out!
Help Needed!
Hi pof,
I (stupid guy!) upgraded from ME_DT_WWE_1182553_106_10303_Ship to Cingular 1.34.502.1 (1.06) and now I cannot downgrade (using for example Cingular_1.30.502.1 (1.04)...why?
I tried every unlocking process, every step you write here, but no way! Always ID ERROR (294)...whyyy????
I cannot understand...I think a downgrade to 1.04 could save me...
Please, help me...
Yes, downgrade will help you. Just downgrade to a full rom matching the CID on your device, or wait until a free solution to downgrade bootloader.

Just to be sure: I flashed my Dutch TyTn (QTEK_E11) to Cing 1.34 WWE (CWS_001).
Now my CID still is QTEK_E11 or is it changed to CWS_001?
If is still is QTEK_E11 then I can go back to the Dutch HTC 1.18.254.2, can I?
And from there I can SuperCID my device?

Making upgrading and unlocking a bit clearer

Although all the information can be found on the forum and in the HTC Hermes Wiki there are always many posts with questions about upgrading and unlocking. I hope this will make it a bit clearer for you:
Bootloader
The bootloader is the place where you can change the low-level software parameters and some hardware parameters of the Hermes, change and read the ROM and provides information about it.
The bootloader is invoked by pressing down both the POWER button and SIDE OK together and using the stylus at the same time to press the RESET button at the bottom.
The bootloader version is shown for a short amount of time when booting the device. You'll see "SPL-1.0X"
Versions
1.04
There is a bug in bootloader 1.04 wich allows you to flash any ROM without a CID check. You have to be in bootloader mode to use this bug.
It's possible to upgrade the RadioROM. You can even flash a patched RadioROM wich is needed to unlock your device.
1.06
The bug from version 1.04 is fixed. Without downgrading to a Shipped ROM with bootloader 1.04 that matches your CID it's not possible to flash a ROM with a different CID.
The RadioROM can't be upgraded. You have to downgrade to bootloader 1.04 to unlock your device.
1.09
You can't downgrade to bootloader 1.04 by flashing a Shipped ROM. However imei-check.co.uk is able to downgrade the bootloader.
There was a solution posted on this forum, but it was stolen from imei-check and was removed. If you are not willing to pay you have to wait until another solution is developed.
The RadioROM can't be upgraded. You have to downgrade to bootloader 1.04 to unlock your device.
CID
The CID your device has varies from operater to operater. It should garantee that only upgrades from a single operater can be installed (to ensure the device is branded etc.)
You can make your device SuperCID wich is some kind of "root-mode". Then you will be able to flash every ROM without thinking about bootloader versions and CIDs.
To find out wich CID your device has use the command "info 2" in bootloader. Read Hermes_BootLoader to know how to use the bootloader.
Preparations
Before you upgrade your ROM (wich will also upgrade your bootloader) you should make your device SuperCID.
Especially if you either upgrade to bootloader 1.06 and there's no Shipped ROM Upgrade with bootloader 1.04 available that matches your CID or upgrade to bootloader 1.09
Unlock / Make your device SuperCID
Use pof's SIM Unlock v2a. This will flash a patched RadioROM that is needed for the unlocking process. Unlock v2a makes your device SuperCID and removes the SIM-Lock.
You need bootloader version 1.04!
The process of flashing the RadioROM and use the unlocker is explained here
There is one restriction: At the moment it's not possible to unlock X01HT devices wich where bought after 12/1/2006 and have bootloader version 1.09 and RadioROM version 1.14.0.10! Please be patient.
Radio version can be checked from Start->Settings->System->Device Information:Radio Version.
Downgrade Bootloader
If you have bootloader version 1.06 and there is a Shipped ROM Upgrade with bootloader version 1.04 available that matches your CID you can flash it to downgrade your bootloader.
Otherwise - you are on bootloader 1.09 or there is no Shipped ROM Upgrade available - you have to use imei-check.co.uk or wait until another (free) solution is developed.
For the method imei-check uses to downgrade the bootloader a working operating system is required.
Upgrade the ROM
If you flash a ROM the first time you should read Upgrade For Beginners and the Upgrade FAQ if you have further questions.
Available Upgrades are listed here
Upgrade RadioROM
There are also Extracted RadioROMs available. You need bootloader 1.04 to flash these!
good summary sn00x. you should post this on the wiki as well.
tthank u very much for the information. it is a bit clearer for me now
Excellent summary for the beginner! Vielen Dank!
Please also read Quentin-'s Hermes Upgrading Guide for a detailed description of the upgrade process and information about ExtendedROM cooking.
it should be posted in the wiki
cristal clear now.... I had posted a question in another thread and read a lot of forums without success. Now I know for sure that have to wait... any ideas on how much time.. thanks for all the help!!!
Super CID
When one upgrades a Radio ROM is it necessary to go back and make the device Super CID again, or is it sticky.
The reason for this question is that I down graded to bl 1.04, made my device Super CID as it was never simlocked, and then upgraded my Radio to 1.27. My device returned a QTEK code, so I just ran Super CID again. It now again displays Super CID.
Is that the way it works?
Thanks for your posting - it certainly has taught me a lot!
@basilrsa: To make SuperCID sticky you need to run Herm_Unlock_v2a.exe on your phone while it has the patched radio that shows SuperCID. Otherwise it is lost after radio upgrades.
Thanks again pof

Thanks pof for that information. That's what I figured out so I reflashed the patched radio, reran Herm_Unlock_v2a.exe and then flashed the 1.27 radio.
Just to be sure I reran the Herm_Unlock_v2a.exe.
I guess that should be OK
Has this been put into the wiki? Someone please do the honours and report back with a roger wilco.

bl1.04
Gentlemen,
Quentin wrote:
"Even with the Super CID hack you cannot install a different radio
if your ROM installed BootLoader 1.06 or greater."
If my current machine state is
1. "Sticky" superCID has been accomplished.
2. Task 32 verifies the device is in superCID mode.
3. Bootloader page displays 1.04
does it stay that way for good regardless of what I flash? If I flash a rom which carries bl1.09 what is the bootloader version going to read on the device at the completion of the flash process?
If I make this simple and go buy a IMEI-check unlock to superCID my bl1.09 system will the bootloader page change to read bl1.04 and will it stay that way regardless of what I flash?
Is bl1.04 going to stay put with subsiquent rom loads?
Thanks

Read the WIKI first... it tells you to issue 'info 2' command in bootloader.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
Seriously, if you've CID unlocked and radio flashed your Hermes without reading this far you're probably going to brick your phone sometime soon, so it'll pay to do some more reading before you play too much more.
1.04 vs 1.06 vs 1.09
I've been "burning eyelashes" for the last few days, my Firefox tabs seems like a huge cargo train
One thing i never could understand of all the readings i've made is about the functional advantages on the various bootloaders . Let me explain:
I know 1.04 is the only one that allows radio-only flashes but let's forget all flashing. Let's concentrate on everyday's use.
Does anyone know if 1.06 and 1.09 will make the PDA run better? I mean, if there's a newer ROM that brings bug corrections and new features so i guess that's the same for bootloaders. In this line of thinking 1.09 should do something better than 1.04. If so what is it?
Why i'm making this question? It's because everyone wants to have the best software version for himself uses, so i don't understand why people improve on ROM's, ExtROM and radios but keep a lower version of the bootloader after flashing. Aren't they missing something using 1.04 instead of 1.09?
I have my TyTN only for a week now and i'm looking forward to do things right by reading all that i need to know. So far this is the question that i haven't seen answered.
Cheers everyone,
Evandro
Well...I'm no expert but I'd imagine that you're venturing down the wrong path. I would venture a guess that many of the bootloader revisions have been made solely to enforce increased security or to attempt to prevent hacking or modding of the underlying OS and Radio ROMs.
That was a really great summary and guide. Unfortunately from all the threads and Wikis I have been reading I feel like alot has been changing very fast and I don't fully understand. This guide was great, and I was wondering if the author or anyone else (there are a bunch of guys on here who really know what they are doing) could write an updated (mabey even more detailed/technical) version. I know how to do all the flashing and stuff, but I'm not so confident I know how it's all working, especially the more recent stuff. Mabey including how stuff like the SSPL, hard SPL, mtty, KITL, nbh/nbs, and other more technical methods being used now other than the standard RUUs.
I know almost all of this info is in the forums and the wikis, but it's a little rough to grasp it all when not together. I hope this doesn't upset anyone, I just figured Quentin was gracious enough to do it once mabey he or someone else would want to do it again. If it's too much to ask then just ignore my request. I have been reading the forums for a few months now and think you guys are doing amazing work. You have improved in weeks what it takes MS to build in years and you do it much better. Thank to all and sorry again if I offended anyone by asking this (just really scared to brick my really expensive phone ...lol)
Thanks

please READ: to flash an exctracted radio you need bootloader 1.04, your bootloader is 1.09. The radio 1.27 is offered in two different formats: shipped (NBH) file which you will be able to flash and extracted (NBF) file which you will not be able to flash unless you downgrade your bootloader to 1.04.

From what ive read (see my sig am on 1.09) i cant use these upgraded radio ROMs, but if im not really having any unwanted issues is it even worth trying to downgrade to 1.04??
More to the point (im most probably wrong but...) to downgrade to 1.04 i must flash a different ROM, im happy with the HTC south Africa one?!?

If you are happy with the 1.18 radio, and don't need to access the radio bootloader or AT command interpreter, you can keep 1.09 bootloader without problems. There's no difference in day-to-day use of the Hermes as a PDA/mobile.

That's a way, but as I see in your signature your device is SuperCID, so to downgrade the bootloader you don't actually need to flash a full rom. The steps would be:
1. Flash bootloader 1.01 MFG
2. Flash SPL-1.04 from bootloader using 'lnb' if you don't want to keep the MFG.
You can do this without having to hard reset your device.

Sweet! Would it be a good idea to stick with 1.01 MFG if im planning on pursuing the GPS thing (IF we get past any risky stuff!), or even if i want to use some cooked goodies later on?
@mrvanx: Yes, it's the best one for playing with this kind of stuff

I am trying to establish the CID status for my TyTN.
I get the following code: HTCSQTEK_001ÖUSB>
I cannot see a thread where I can decypher it.
What is my CID status?
I am on bootloader 1.09 that came with the SA ROM.
Would like to upgrade the radio to 1.27
Thanks

Your CID is the part just after "HTCS"
So in your case you get (from info 2) "HTCSQTEK_001ÖUSB" so your hermes is an English HTC branded device, your device is not SuperCID yet.
Check this post to see which it is (im only going by memory)
EDIT: I upgraded to the 1.27.00.00 radio yesterday, aslong as you use the signed released version (the first option on the related thread) you should be ok, dont use the extracted one. You MUST be SuperCID to upgrade the Radio (covering ones ass).
@basilrsa: Your CID is QTEK_001. Your device is CID locked with bootloader 1.09, you won't be able to flash 1.27 radio unless you downgrade your SPL to 1.04 first, either to continue CID locked and be able to flash extracted radio or to CID unlock and be able to flash shipped radio.
Thanks Pof

ROM Upgrade Question

OK, I've read the wiki and various FAQs on the topic. I am basically looking for confirmation on my plan as I have never done anything like this before. I don't want to see sparks flying out of my 8525 after trying to upgrade.
I have the 1.16 Radio and 1.34 ROM currently and I want to get to 1.34 radio, 2.06 ROM, 3.3 AKU. I think my procedure should be to:
1. perform the CID/SIM unlocker v3 per http://forum.xdadevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
2. Install the latest ROM per:
http://rapidshare.com/files/18315008/RUU_HER_CINGULAR_2.06.502.3_1.34.00.10_SPL1.04.exe which should update the ROM and radio.
And I believe all of this is able to be done without downgrading to boot loader 1.04.
Thanks for the help.

You dont have too SuperCID but I would. That ROM will not downgrade your BL to 1.04. You BL will stay the same or become 1.04 if you happen to have something lower, which I doubt.

Are you saying it won't downgrade the BL regardless of the SuperCID status, or depending on which BL it currently has?
@pstritt: Based on the other info you provided, I'm guessing you must have SPL 1.06. You should be able to flash that ROM without going SuperCID first, as I've done so myself. My SPL remained 1.06 (why it did being contingent upon the answer to the question above).
Really no reason to SuperCID anymore...
Just run the Cingular rom in the wiki as your first step. Second step is to run Oli's 1.10.Oli Bootloader.
So...
1) http://rapidshare.com/files/18315008/RUU_HER_CINGULAR_2.06.502.3_1.34.00.10_SPL1.04.exe
2) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
AND, if you want to be able to edit your ExtRom, see this:
3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297085
Done.
Nothing else needed anymore

Most of the links for radio only use Des' SSPL, so, SuperCID isn't needed. In fact, you don't even need to worry about having the appropriate BL either as Des' BL uses 1.09 to flash radios, even the 0108...
So, grab the packed RUU and run. Done.
If you aren't SuperCIDing your device, you **REALLY** should install the Oli BL; reason is that if there is a bad radio flash, it will save you in a VERY big way! Highly recommended to do it before you start mucking around too much with radios/os/etc...

Here again, I wholeheartedly agree. Until 1.10.Oli came about the light never went on with me as to the hidden benefits of SuperCID/1.04, despite that fact I had no burning desire to flash cross-CID or "generic" ROMs (...yet!).
Now I understand that it'll give you the ability to manuever in the BL if you happen to hose your radio, etc.

I've been keeping up with that thread, read alot of the wiki, but still can't seem to wrap myself around all the info I've taken in. I think I'm starting to get it some now. All's I've done so far is upgrade my official ROM with AKU 3.3 so now I have bl 1.09 and I'm still not ready to flash with WM6, but in the meantime I do want to upgrade my radio from 1.33 to 1.35 but still have the option to drop back if I wanted to.

no, enter the thread, there's only one available; the 1.01 stuff is only available as NB files and you have to know what you're doing to flash those whereas 1.10 is available as an RUU update that you can run on your computer to flash; that's the one you want

Stick to running the installer (ROMUpgradeUt.exe) to flash the 1.04-based version unless you really know what you're doing. Olipro left his 1.01-based version as .nb's for this very reason.
Show ExtROM Version
Hi, I'm new of the forum, I would want to know how to show the version of the ExtROM in “Device Information” with version 0.20 of XDA Live. Thanks a lot for the answer.

FUNDAMENTAL requirement before trying a WM6 upgrade

I have been reading all across the forums how to CID unlock, upgrade etc. However, I am not able to find the ways to do seeminly essential homework before trying to upgrade. These for me are:-
* Finding a way to completely backup all the stuff from original tytn. Like ROM, SPL, IPL, Radio, CIDlock etc. I feel that this is important as if ever I feel like going to the tried old one I should be able to and to preserve the warranty also. Also, the method to roll back if needed. This should be covering re CID locking the phone etc.
It makes sense to create a way to bring the phone to its completlely original shape if we need it
Thanks
Alber

You do not need to back up your spl, ipl, etc. because if you need to roll back you can just reflash them on, and they can be found around here and in the wiki.
You cannot un-CIDunlock, but if you use hardspl v7 it will "trick" your phone into thinking it is (when in reality it isnt) so that you do not have to actually unlock it. If you ever need to send it in you can just flash the old spl over it.

HardSPL does not CID unlock. pof's Free Unlocker (a sticky thread) does the SIM and CID unlocking. HardSPL is a new set of bootloaders allowing upgrade utilities to access and read/write to the phone. The most important aspect of this (besides bypassing the CID check) is the security - it has some overwrite protection built in to prevent you from accidentally corrupting the bootloader area, rendering your phone a brick. HardSPL is a safety measure.
If you check THE WIKI here on xda for the Hermes, you will find some stuff on extracting. It is most probable that it will be FAR easier to find new versions of everything you have, rather than trying to back up and restore. The wiki contains MANY shipped ROMs to allow you to restore back to basically the original condition. LOOK HERE for MW5 shipped ROMs and LOOK HERE for WM6 shipped ROMs.

Thanks a lot for the reply, I appreciate the time you spent in expaining this to me and providing these links.
I was wondering if HARDSPL is like shelltool where it will only allow upgrade or flashing of OS part. So, once I use the HARDSPL and flash say HTC official WM6 release or Dopod WM6, will I be ableto to get the bundled radio and SPL and IPL upgrades from these ROMS? and if yes then will HARDSPL get replaced by these SPLs and IPLs built into the ROMS? One more thing, will an upgrade like that can brick the phone as if I rum the official ROM it will try to upgrade the SPL and IPL (I am not sure).
What is the preferred way of upgrading ? unlocking CID by the tool or HARDSPL ?
I have read somewhere that lockwiz tool used for Wizard can save CID also and some tool and put it back also but I dont know how and if the same tool can do it for hermes?

Alber

Most cooked roms are os only, but a few have a radio, etc. included. If its os only, flashing will only change the os. You can separately flash radio.
Hardspl is the best because its reversible. Well thats not the best word to describe it....id say because its not permanent. But u know what i mean

Mcorrie1121 is right. I will add a couple of things.
1. HardSPL is not *necessary* for flashing anything, it only makes it safer and allows you to flash ROMs with CIDs that do not match your device without CID unlocking. Your ROM is basically a few parts - OS, Radio, IPL, SPL, ExtROM, MainSplash and SubSplash. The HardSPL will replace the SPL only. Most non-carrier ROM releases are OS only. Most carrier ROMs (as you pointed out) have ALL of these things. As Mcorrie1121 pointed out, you can easily find a radio - check the wiki, search, etc.
2. Once you have upgraded to a cooked ROM (and HardSPL), you will still be able to upgrade to a Shipped Official ROM. You may need to "unpack" it and use the CustomRUU instead of the shipped updater. That is OK though.
3. HardSPL will not allow overwriting of the IPL/SPL except by another HardSPL (see mrvanx.org downgrade guides). You will not have a problem. It will keep your bootloader zone safe.
4. I don't think there is a preferred way. Some people unlock CID, others do not. There is no reason to *not* unlock it, unless you plan to send it back - and I have never heard of someone getting service rejected for this reason. Wring ROM, yes. CID unlocked, no. That said, maybe try without CID unlocking first and then if you find you need to do it for some reason, then do it. You really do not have to do it, since the Custom Updater bypasses the CID check anyway.
5. Regarding the 0108 Radio BL issue, don't worry much about that - it is an old problem. Just don't go below whatever version you have now.

Dear, please help me with one thing-I am terribly confused about the procedure to upgrade my JASJAM to WM6. I understand that one way is to CIS unlock it and install on it the official and dopod releases of WM6. I wanted to know how can I do the same using the HARDspl. I know that I can install the HARDSPL but after that what ??? Can I then run the offcial RUU from HTC or Dopod or I am supposed to do it some other way as I am afraid that it may contain the SPL and IPL and can break by phone OR I have to use some customRUU (I dont know) OR I am supposed to extract the OS from these official releases (I dont know how) OR ..
Can you please clear these confusion??
I have:-
* I-Mate JASJAM, CID locked i suppose as when I run official HTC or dopod it says this update utility is not for this
*I really wanted to save my devices complete state and a way to revert it to the way it was like SPL, IPL, OS, Radio, CID lock etc.

There are upgrade guides there and guides to put it back the way it was (OS, Radio, IPL, SPL, MainSplash and SubSplash) - it is all covered.
The upgrade guides will get you through the upgrade process. The only thing you need to do after that to use an official upgrade is to unrar (using winrar or something) the executable file and take the nbh and us it with the CustomRUU, which can be found HERE .
