Need answer to understand few basic questions - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I have read a lot on these forum but still can't understand few basic things.
I have upgraded my cingular 8525 with black dymond 3.5
Currently I have IPL 1.04 / SPL 2.10 Olipro / Radio Version 1.40.30.00
I followed the guide and installed SPL 2.10 Olipro before ugrading to prevent it from getting brick device...SPL 2.10 bypasses CID... corrupt sectors in ROM will not cause problem as it bypasses CID.. Can somebody explain these things in little detail please.
What exacltly SPL 2.10 does?
If some thing goes wrong while flashing - will I be able to install original cingular - att ROM?
Is SPL 2.10 permenantly install on device or it will be removed by ATT rom?
What is CID and What is super CID?
What other precautions I need to take besides this to prevent my phone from becoming brick device?
Again - I have no plan to go back to ATT rom, this is only if something terribly goes wrong.
GG

You've definitely done your reading and more or less have it right.
CID is an area of the radio bootloader that primarily "locks" your phone to a particular carrier. If you bollocks a radio flash and it becomes corrupt, you've "bricked" your device and it can be rather difficult to recover.
Hard-SPL is a brilliantly patched version of the SPL by Mr. Olipro that makes your device appear as SuperCID without having actually updated the "real" CID (which one used to have to do). SuperCID will allow you to flash any ROM to your device (not just the ones for your carrier) and enables some otherwise blocked commands, thereby giving you room to maneuver if you happen to "brick".
Hard-SPL also has a patched 'task 2a' command that will recover bad blocks (provided they aren't physical bad blocks from the factory) that can develop on your device as a result of flashing.
By design Hard-SPL prevents itself from being overwritten, but it can be done if you need to send your phone in for warranty, etc. There's a guide for that and several threads, too.
You've done about as much as you can to protect your Hermes. Good job!

Thanks vp3G for your explanation. Much appriciated.

Making upgrading and unlocking a bit clearer

Although all the information can be found on the forum and in the HTC Hermes Wiki there are always many posts with questions about upgrading and unlocking. I hope this will make it a bit clearer for you:
Bootloader
The bootloader is the place where you can change the low-level software parameters and some hardware parameters of the Hermes, change and read the ROM and provides information about it.
The bootloader is invoked by pressing down both the POWER button and SIDE OK together and using the stylus at the same time to press the RESET button at the bottom.
The bootloader version is shown for a short amount of time when booting the device. You'll see "SPL-1.0X"
Versions
1.04
There is a bug in bootloader 1.04 wich allows you to flash any ROM without a CID check. You have to be in bootloader mode to use this bug.
It's possible to upgrade the RadioROM. You can even flash a patched RadioROM wich is needed to unlock your device.
1.06
The bug from version 1.04 is fixed. Without downgrading to a Shipped ROM with bootloader 1.04 that matches your CID it's not possible to flash a ROM with a different CID.
The RadioROM can't be upgraded. You have to downgrade to bootloader 1.04 to unlock your device.
1.09
You can't downgrade to bootloader 1.04 by flashing a Shipped ROM. However imei-check.co.uk is able to downgrade the bootloader.
There was a solution posted on this forum, but it was stolen from imei-check and was removed. If you are not willing to pay you have to wait until another solution is developed.
The RadioROM can't be upgraded. You have to downgrade to bootloader 1.04 to unlock your device.
CID
The CID your device has varies from operater to operater. It should garantee that only upgrades from a single operater can be installed (to ensure the device is branded etc.)
You can make your device SuperCID wich is some kind of "root-mode". Then you will be able to flash every ROM without thinking about bootloader versions and CIDs.
To find out wich CID your device has use the command "info 2" in bootloader. Read Hermes_BootLoader to know how to use the bootloader.
Preparations
Before you upgrade your ROM (wich will also upgrade your bootloader) you should make your device SuperCID.
Especially if you either upgrade to bootloader 1.06 and there's no Shipped ROM Upgrade with bootloader 1.04 available that matches your CID or upgrade to bootloader 1.09
Unlock / Make your device SuperCID
Use pof's SIM Unlock v2a. This will flash a patched RadioROM that is needed for the unlocking process. Unlock v2a makes your device SuperCID and removes the SIM-Lock.
You need bootloader version 1.04!
The process of flashing the RadioROM and use the unlocker is explained here
There is one restriction: At the moment it's not possible to unlock X01HT devices wich where bought after 12/1/2006 and have bootloader version 1.09 and RadioROM version 1.14.0.10! Please be patient.
Radio version can be checked from Start->Settings->System->Device Information:Radio Version.
Downgrade Bootloader
If you have bootloader version 1.06 and there is a Shipped ROM Upgrade with bootloader version 1.04 available that matches your CID you can flash it to downgrade your bootloader.
Otherwise - you are on bootloader 1.09 or there is no Shipped ROM Upgrade available - you have to use imei-check.co.uk or wait until another (free) solution is developed.
For the method imei-check uses to downgrade the bootloader a working operating system is required.
Upgrade the ROM
If you flash a ROM the first time you should read Upgrade For Beginners and the Upgrade FAQ if you have further questions.
Available Upgrades are listed here
Upgrade RadioROM
There are also Extracted RadioROMs available. You need bootloader 1.04 to flash these!
good summary sn00x. you should post this on the wiki as well.
tthank u very much for the information. it is a bit clearer for me now
Excellent summary for the beginner! Vielen Dank!
Please also read Quentin-'s Hermes Upgrading Guide for a detailed description of the upgrade process and information about ExtendedROM cooking.
it should be posted in the wiki
cristal clear now.... I had posted a question in another thread and read a lot of forums without success. Now I know for sure that have to wait... any ideas on how much time.. thanks for all the help!!!
Super CID
When one upgrades a Radio ROM is it necessary to go back and make the device Super CID again, or is it sticky.
The reason for this question is that I down graded to bl 1.04, made my device Super CID as it was never simlocked, and then upgraded my Radio to 1.27. My device returned a QTEK code, so I just ran Super CID again. It now again displays Super CID.
Is that the way it works?
Thanks for your posting - it certainly has taught me a lot!
@basilrsa: To make SuperCID sticky you need to run Herm_Unlock_v2a.exe on your phone while it has the patched radio that shows SuperCID. Otherwise it is lost after radio upgrades.
Thanks again pof

Thanks pof for that information. That's what I figured out so I reflashed the patched radio, reran Herm_Unlock_v2a.exe and then flashed the 1.27 radio.
Just to be sure I reran the Herm_Unlock_v2a.exe.
I guess that should be OK
Has this been put into the wiki? Someone please do the honours and report back with a roger wilco.

bl1.04
Gentlemen,
Quentin wrote:
"Even with the Super CID hack you cannot install a different radio
if your ROM installed BootLoader 1.06 or greater."
If my current machine state is
1. "Sticky" superCID has been accomplished.
2. Task 32 verifies the device is in superCID mode.
3. Bootloader page displays 1.04
does it stay that way for good regardless of what I flash? If I flash a rom which carries bl1.09 what is the bootloader version going to read on the device at the completion of the flash process?
If I make this simple and go buy a IMEI-check unlock to superCID my bl1.09 system will the bootloader page change to read bl1.04 and will it stay that way regardless of what I flash?
Is bl1.04 going to stay put with subsiquent rom loads?
Thanks

Read the WIKI first... it tells you to issue 'info 2' command in bootloader.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
Seriously, if you've CID unlocked and radio flashed your Hermes without reading this far you're probably going to brick your phone sometime soon, so it'll pay to do some more reading before you play too much more.
1.04 vs 1.06 vs 1.09
I've been "burning eyelashes" for the last few days, my Firefox tabs seems like a huge cargo train
One thing i never could understand of all the readings i've made is about the functional advantages on the various bootloaders . Let me explain:
I know 1.04 is the only one that allows radio-only flashes but let's forget all flashing. Let's concentrate on everyday's use.
Does anyone know if 1.06 and 1.09 will make the PDA run better? I mean, if there's a newer ROM that brings bug corrections and new features so i guess that's the same for bootloaders. In this line of thinking 1.09 should do something better than 1.04. If so what is it?
Why i'm making this question? It's because everyone wants to have the best software version for himself uses, so i don't understand why people improve on ROM's, ExtROM and radios but keep a lower version of the bootloader after flashing. Aren't they missing something using 1.04 instead of 1.09?
I have my TyTN only for a week now and i'm looking forward to do things right by reading all that i need to know. So far this is the question that i haven't seen answered.
Cheers everyone,
Evandro
Well...I'm no expert but I'd imagine that you're venturing down the wrong path. I would venture a guess that many of the bootloader revisions have been made solely to enforce increased security or to attempt to prevent hacking or modding of the underlying OS and Radio ROMs.
That was a really great summary and guide. Unfortunately from all the threads and Wikis I have been reading I feel like alot has been changing very fast and I don't fully understand. This guide was great, and I was wondering if the author or anyone else (there are a bunch of guys on here who really know what they are doing) could write an updated (mabey even more detailed/technical) version. I know how to do all the flashing and stuff, but I'm not so confident I know how it's all working, especially the more recent stuff. Mabey including how stuff like the SSPL, hard SPL, mtty, KITL, nbh/nbs, and other more technical methods being used now other than the standard RUUs.
I know almost all of this info is in the forums and the wikis, but it's a little rough to grasp it all when not together. I hope this doesn't upset anyone, I just figured Quentin was gracious enough to do it once mabey he or someone else would want to do it again. If it's too much to ask then just ignore my request. I have been reading the forums for a few months now and think you guys are doing amazing work. You have improved in weeks what it takes MS to build in years and you do it much better. Thank to all and sorry again if I offended anyone by asking this (just really scared to brick my really expensive phone ...lol)
Thanks

nooB question

I'm new here and sorry for the nooB-ish question, but I'm going to be picking up an 8525 in the next week or so, and have been reading the wiki, and many posts like a madman...
I'm intending to flash a WM06 to it when I get it (LVSW's Pro 06 most likely) and I just want to be sure I understand the procedure. I have been reading the wiki (for the past couple days) and finally have read myself into a corner, so thought I'd ask.
It is likely I'm going to get the phone from ebay or something, so I'm not too concerned about the carrier's warranty. Besides, any time I tried to warranty a phone through Cingular in the past has been a headache.
That said, the steps I think I need to take are as follows:
1) us pof's v3 SIM and CID unlocker. I plan on unlocking both SIM and CID. Currently I am on Cingular, but I'd like to do this step in case I'm not on Cingular, or end up travelling and go with a pay as you go type of plan while abroad. And the CID, well I know I'll be going to a non Cingular branded ROM.
2) (not sure about this part)- load hard SPL onto the phone... but if I'm CID unlocking it, do I still need to do this?
3) run the RUU and upgrade to the LVSW (WM6 Style) Custom ROM, with the 1.34 radio, 1.10Oli SPL, and HTC Boot 0108
4) do it again, but with the LVSW (Pro Style) 15/3/07, which will give me the OS only, in the Pro Style look I'm after
5) flash it to the newer 1.38 radio sans GPS
Two or three days ago, I wouldn't have even half understood what I just wrote. I'm hoping I got it... where I am having issues is with the myriad different "use this method to flash your phone and not brick it" things in the wiki. I'm not by any means new to phone flashing, but with like 8-9 phones in the last couple years, all of which I modded in some way or another, this is my first foray outside Motorola.
So, did I get it? Or am I well on the way to owning a neat doorstop?
Thanks for any constructive input you all might have.
Sounds fine to me. But, you don't need the SuperCID to flash non-cingular as long as you're using the custom RUU's and SSPL.
Definately flash hard-spl, (although, that is the same as 1.10.Oli), I'd still probably flash it before anything else just to make sure.
Also, I'd probably check out Oli's "Mount ExtRom without SuperCID" thread if you still want access to the extrom.. Basically, if you use this and skip pof's unlocker, you'll still have Cingular CID, but, all the benefits of SuperCID.
Only use pof's unlocker if you want the sim unlock.. WHICH Cingular will give to you by calling customer service and requesting it after telling them you are traveling to Europe, etc..
Up to you though...
If you're going to use pof's unlock etc and Hard SPL why flash the custom rom before the pro style one. Can't you just go straight to the second rom?
@LegolasTheElf- thanks! I'll look into those options.
@randomelements- yep, I could. I didn't realize that the Oli SPL was pushing Hard SPL to the phone... And, with upgrading the radio, I guess it really doesn't matter.... I was going to go with that LVSW custom rom for the upgraded radio... it made it on the list of things to do on Sat. Then, Sunday I was reading the 1.38 (Hermes) radio upgrade thread, and decided to throw that on the list too.
I'm going to change my mind.. Here's the process:
1. Pof's unlocker (if you want)
2. Install Oli's Hard-SPL
3. Install 1.38.00.10 radio
4. Install OS *only* LVSW pro
5. Install Oli's Mount ExtRom without supercid if you didn't already unlock with pof's unlocker.
That will mean only one radio flash (radio being the leading cause of bricks), a good chance of fixing it (Oli's BL), and the OS you want. ExtRom is ignored as the WM6 roms don't use it anyways...
I concur.

Hey, great, thanks!
For some reason I didn't pick up on the Radio flash being the cause of the bricks... I just thought it was with the RUU and CID interferance.

Upgrading, HardSPL, SuperCID.. confused, a little... help??

Sorry chaps, bit of a newb with the phone flashing, although experienced in general PC/I.T hardware etc... so usually get to grips with things techy...
Read the posts on HardSPL, but doesnt really explain what it is, what it does, or how it stops your phone getting bricked..the only thing I do understand that it is a MUST if you want to flash your rom. Which incidently I have successfully done twice now!! ALthough I know the enclosed quote mentions some of its features, I dont even know what SPL is..!! doh!!!
So its on my phone (Orange's M3100 flavour)...!! Now I assume this will let me quite happily swap roms to my hearts content...? Would this also include the hopefully forthcomming official Tytn/Hermes WM6 rom??
Now with regards to unlocking the phone for any network provider, this is where the SuperCID comes in?? Have I not read that having having HardSPL-2.10 enables SuperCID...??
CURRENT FEATURES
-SuperCID ????
-no file signing required
-no password required to authenticate with bootloader
-bad NAND can be recovered with "task 2a"
-bad NAND can be recovered by flashing an OS
-SPL protected from all HTC retail SPLs being flashed by accident (to bypass, use SSPL)
-IPL protected from all flashes; protection against bogus NBH's
-bad NAND can again be checked for with "info 8"
-version displays 2.10.Olipro
-no longer tries to read bad NAND - should fix whitescreen issue
ChangeLog
Hard-SPL-2.10
-based on a newer SPL base; bugfixes.
-IPL flashing disabled to prevent bogus NBHs bricking your device.

ANy guidance would be great, jus tso I understand what Im doing, rahter than just doing it, albeit with success up to now!!
Thanks!!

FUNDAMENTAL requirement before trying a WM6 upgrade

I have been reading all across the forums how to CID unlock, upgrade etc. However, I am not able to find the ways to do seeminly essential homework before trying to upgrade. These for me are:-
* Finding a way to completely backup all the stuff from original tytn. Like ROM, SPL, IPL, Radio, CIDlock etc. I feel that this is important as if ever I feel like going to the tried old one I should be able to and to preserve the warranty also. Also, the method to roll back if needed. This should be covering re CID locking the phone etc.
It makes sense to create a way to bring the phone to its completlely original shape if we need it
Thanks

You do not need to back up your spl, ipl, etc. because if you need to roll back you can just reflash them on, and they can be found around here and in the wiki.
You cannot un-CIDunlock, but if you use hardspl v7 it will "trick" your phone into thinking it is (when in reality it isnt) so that you do not have to actually unlock it. If you ever need to send it in you can just flash the old spl over it.

HardSPL does not CID unlock. pof's Free Unlocker (a sticky thread) does the SIM and CID unlocking. HardSPL is a new set of bootloaders allowing upgrade utilities to access and read/write to the phone. The most important aspect of this (besides bypassing the CID check) is the security - it has some overwrite protection built in to prevent you from accidentally corrupting the bootloader area, rendering your phone a brick. HardSPL is a safety measure.
If you check THE WIKI here on xda for the Hermes, you will find some stuff on extracting. It is most probable that it will be FAR easier to find new versions of everything you have, rather than trying to back up and restore. The wiki contains MANY shipped ROMs to allow you to restore back to basically the original condition. LOOK HERE for MW5 shipped ROMs and LOOK HERE for WM6 shipped ROMs.

its confusing
on pof's sticky it says to downgrade the radio if u have the htc 108..
but on the radio upgrade sticky, it says u can upgrade any phone[hermes] using custom ruu..

Thanks a lot for the reply, I appreciate the time you spent in expaining this to me and providing these links.
I was wondering if HARDSPL is like shelltool where it will only allow upgrade or flashing of OS part. So, once I use the HARDSPL and flash say HTC official WM6 release or Dopod WM6, will I be ableto to get the bundled radio and SPL and IPL upgrades from these ROMS? and if yes then will HARDSPL get replaced by these SPLs and IPLs built into the ROMS? One more thing, will an upgrade like that can brick the phone as if I rum the official ROM it will try to upgrade the SPL and IPL (I am not sure).
What is the preferred way of upgrading ? unlocking CID by the tool or HARDSPL ?
I have read somewhere that lockwiz tool used for Wizard can save CID also and some tool and put it back also but I dont know how and if the same tool can do it for hermes?

Alber

Most cooked roms are os only, but a few have a radio, etc. included. If its os only, flashing will only change the os. You can separately flash radio.
Hardspl is the best because its reversible. Well thats not the best word to describe it....id say because its not permanent. But u know what i mean

I have read somewhere that lockwiz tool used for Wizard can save CID also and some tool and put it back also but I dont know how and if the same tool can do it for hermes?

Alber

Mcorrie1121 is right. I will add a couple of things.
1. HardSPL is not *necessary* for flashing anything, it only makes it safer and allows you to flash ROMs with CIDs that do not match your device without CID unlocking. Your ROM is basically a few parts - OS, Radio, IPL, SPL, ExtROM, MainSplash and SubSplash. The HardSPL will replace the SPL only. Most non-carrier ROM releases are OS only. Most carrier ROMs (as you pointed out) have ALL of these things. As Mcorrie1121 pointed out, you can easily find a radio - check the wiki, search, etc.
2. Once you have upgraded to a cooked ROM (and HardSPL), you will still be able to upgrade to a Shipped Official ROM. You may need to "unpack" it and use the CustomRUU instead of the shipped updater. That is OK though.
3. HardSPL will not allow overwriting of the IPL/SPL except by another HardSPL (see mrvanx.org downgrade guides). You will not have a problem. It will keep your bootloader zone safe.
4. I don't think there is a preferred way. Some people unlock CID, others do not. There is no reason to *not* unlock it, unless you plan to send it back - and I have never heard of someone getting service rejected for this reason. Wring ROM, yes. CID unlocked, no. That said, maybe try without CID unlocking first and then if you find you need to do it for some reason, then do it. You really do not have to do it, since the Custom Updater bypasses the CID check anyway.
5. Regarding the 0108 Radio BL issue, don't worry much about that - it is an old problem. Just don't go below whatever version you have now.

Dear, please help me with one thing-I am terribly confused about the procedure to upgrade my JASJAM to WM6. I understand that one way is to CIS unlock it and install on it the official and dopod releases of WM6. I wanted to know how can I do the same using the HARDspl. I know that I can install the HARDSPL but after that what ??? Can I then run the offcial RUU from HTC or Dopod or I am supposed to do it some other way as I am afraid that it may contain the SPL and IPL and can break by phone OR I have to use some customRUU (I dont know) OR I am supposed to extract the OS from these official releases (I dont know how) OR ..
Can you please clear these confusion??
I have:-
* I-Mate JASJAM, CID locked i suppose as when I run official HTC or dopod it says this update utility is not for this
*I really wanted to save my devices complete state and a way to revert it to the way it was like SPL, IPL, OS, Radio, CID lock etc.
PLS pls help

Alber

There are upgrade guides there and guides to put it back the way it was (OS, Radio, IPL, SPL, MainSplash and SubSplash) - it is all covered.
The upgrade guides will get you through the upgrade process. The only thing you need to do after that to use an official upgrade is to unrar (using winrar or something) the executable file and take the nbh and us it with the CustomRUU, which can be found HERE .

Concise guide to upgrading to WM6.1?/michyrom

Hi there,
I'm looking to upgrade my stock (and unlocked) x7501 to WM6.1. First up i'd like to say that I *have* read the forums, and I *have* read lots of threads about upgrading. Unfortunately it seems I still don't understand what the entire process is.
Firstly, what is SPL? I could not discover what this acronym means. Thus, how do I determine my SPL version, and does this have anything to do with the fact that my phone is factory unlocked or not? Apparently the first step is to run something like Hard-SPL unlocker but my phone is unlocked - I don't want to do something unnecessary or brick the phone.
It seems unfortunate that other users asking similar questions to me got flamed for not reading or 'not reading enough' but i can say that unless i missed a crucial reading thread (i have read all the stickys) then it certainly isnt very clear what the process is.
Any help much appreciated.
hi
a little help on the acronyms from the wiki page:
CID lock (aka vendor lock): puts on your device by the manufacturer to prevent installation of a ROM not released by them.
HardSPL: This modified bootloader allows a much safer flashing process to take place since it reduces the chance of permenently bricking your device. It also removes the need to CID Unlock the device since it ALWAYS reports SuperCID when flashing. See the official thread for more info.
Hard Reset: Similar to a soft reset, by performing a hard reset you completely wipe your device and restore it to the position it was in when you first turned the device on after it was purchased or after a new ROM is flashed.
Radio: The radio stack is responsible for the phone functionality of the device. This includes GPRS, GSM, UMTS, and GPS operations as well as camera functionality. The version you use depends on who your carrier is as users have reported versions working better on one carrier than the other. The wiki pages contain the latest versions available to download and install.
ROM: The ROM holds the Operating system and other components such as the bluetooth and wifi stacks. The ROM is accompanied by the Radio, Ext_ROM, SPL and IPL. Carriers such as T-mobile or Vodaphone taylor the ROM to their specifications and version numbers do not carry the same meaning across different carriers. IF the carrier you use supports the device well they will usually release regular ROM updates.
RUU - ROM Upgrade Utility: It’s the s/w used on your PC to do a ROM upgrade for your PPC;
IPL - Initial Program Loader: It’s the bootloader for PPC. It boots up SPL;
SPL - Secondary Program Loader: Loads the actual OS;
WWE: World Wide English Edition;
SSPL: SSPL is a modified bootloader which is loaded into RAM when run, this allows us to overwrite any aspect of the ROM, Radio or Bootloader far easier than using mtty.
I agree
I have noticed a lot of members with only a few posts asking questions and making fundamental mistakes and I usually say "read the wiki and do a search " but I did just that and there are a confusing array of answers.
I wil try to do an idiots guide later and post it here unless someone with more time does it first
Thanks robson/lakeman, that actually helps a lot.
So... We want to put a new SPL on the system, so that the IPL loads the new SPL (HardSPL), which gets around CID locking to allow you to flash the ROM via an RUU?
Also, would like to add that there are two types of rom's.
Rom's for SPL1.2 and rom's for SPL3.5
If it is the first time I would suggest you first, to load SPL1.2 rom's
This way you can go back to original rom's very easy.
Rom's made to SPL3.5 gives more freedom to rom cookers, but once you are on SPL3.5 you cannot go back to original rom's unless you first revert to SPL1.2 first.
The process to revert from SPL1.2 to SPL3.5 and viceversa can be very tricky and can give you a lot of headackes.
You will need to read a lot and be aware of posible problems ( and resolutions ).
Welcome to this wonderfull world
re: spl and upgrading roms
putting aside my previous post, that's probably as far as i can go in terms of the techie stuff =)
my story: i was actually content with my original, untouched u1000 rom. then something happened with my bluetooth (all sounds kept on being streaming even without the bt activated)...that forced me to upgrade to ap3...probably the first rom upgrade that was made available for the u1000. i sorta felt that i had nothing to lose...if the rom upgrade couldn't fix the bt issue...then i'd get a replacement unit...
once i upgraded to ap3...and it was successful...i then tried out the rom upgrade by irus. it was fantastic...most notable was the auto-rotate feature....but apparently i was having some vga issues as i couldn't get 96dpi to work. that's when i installed michy's rom and i've been having a blast since then.
my point: i really can't answer the spl part in your original post...i kinda remember how to find the spl version....but i don't want to end up bricking or damaging your unit. there are others in the athena forum who are best qualified to answer that.....but once you get beyond this, let me know and i'd be happy to help you out in upgrading to michy's rom.
cheers
Robson, cool, your input is much appreciated. I think the first step is to find out my SPL version. I'll hunt around the forums/wiki for that, but if anyone knows off the top of their head, feel free to post.
Press all the way in the camera button and at the same time soft-reset.
Keep until it displays the famous tri-color screen. Loose buttons.
You will see something like this ( in my case ):
ATHE100
IPL-v1.00
ATHE100
SPL-v1.20.Olipro ( because I have already unlocked )
If your unit is virgin you will be SPL-v1.00 if I remember well.
