Earlier today (many hours) my son accidently removed the USB cable from my phone when it was flashing when I'd popped to get drink and he wanted to move it to get something, now my Hermes is dead.
I was flashing a rom (as I have done plenty of times before).
I've tried everything I can think of and read, battery out 20 mins, set 14 0, hard reset, soft reset, re-flash etc...
...the issue is it starts to flash when teh SPL 1.04 loader screen shows, but dies immediatly at 0%.
I can connect via mtty and have done. A few details from my current session...
IPL CRC checksum = 0xB266044D
SPL CRC checksum = 0x3BF03635
CE CRC checksum = 0x3A6882B2
ExtROM CRC checksum = 0xFFDF0212
Radio Image CRC checksum = 0xD30714EC
...is it possible to use mtty to upload an image file, if so what image file should I use and also how? The guide at the Wiki seems to point to the lnbs command but I cannot get it to work.
Would appichate any help here... ...my beloved phone!!!
You cannot solve this problem. Now your ROM does not even have a complete Windows Mobile ROM so how does resetting is going to help. These issues are best to be dealt by cellure carrier or by manufacture warranty. On the Wikis I have read, it clearly stated pressing and buttons or disconnect the USB cable will result in a permanent halt for Windows Mobile devices.

I am not sure I spoke about resetting, my question was tho, as I had paritial connectivity, can I use MTTY to upload a file.
It's not a problem tho now, got it sorted.

You are an idiot aren't you.
Father L ... I don't know your answer, as I have never had a bricked Hermes - at least not to the extent you do.
Stick around though, and I promise you, you will get a SENSIBLE answer from someone here soon.

Please take a look in the wiki at THIS PAGE....
Then take a look in the unbricking thread HERE.
By the looks of it your Radio image is ok so you should be fine to flash a WM5 retail ROM...make sure its a ROM for the correct device type (so for a TyTN use a HTC ROM...or an 8525 use a Cingular ROM etc...)..
The wiki page says to try flashing it TWICE...when it hangs on the first attempt leave it as it is then run the RUU again.
READ THE WIKI and the thread first however do NOT just follow my advice.

here is what I've done and what happened:
my ROM was HTC 1.18.255.3 07/22/06 with bootloader 1.04 then I ran "HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe" on the device but I didn't use "HTC_Hermes_Radio_for_SIMunlock_v1.16.00.69" to save time and i wanted a CID unlock only.
after "SUCCESS!" message from "HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe", I connected my device via USB to PC and started to upgrade to Cingular 1.31.502.1 08/30/06 with aku 2.6 and bootloader 1.06 but when I get the "ID ERROR",without disconnecting the USB, I switched back to ugrading to previous ROM HTC 1.18.255.3 and the Processe started with no problem untill 98%, then suddenly upgading interrupted a message came saying connection error or somting like that!
since then my device is stuck on windows mobile screen and I've tested solutions in the "Hermes_Upgrade Problems" page and tried using the "Hermes SD Card flashing" method, But It seems impossible to flash my phone agian.

I think Pof is away until 3rd december, I have the similiar problems with my second hermes, if you have then use mtty to see if you have an corrupted cid using info 2.
Do you have the original rom to go back on if so that will fix your problem.
I've used mtty to send some commands to my device and it answers to some of them but It just stop responding when I type "info 2" or "info 3".
and i tried this in mtty:
"
USB>checkimage
IPL CRC checksum = 0x9FCC6BEB
SPL CRC checksum = 0x3BF03635
CE CRC checksum = 0xC0E1751A
ExtROM CRC checksum = Total Block= 1024
dwBlockIndex= 1024
Address Error1!!!
Get checksum ERROR!!!
0x0
Radio Image CRC checksum =
"
again It stop responding
also tried upgrading, no matter which ROM I try, it just can't connect to device.
and thanx for your relpy.
hi, since there is NO htc service center available around me I have to do something about it myself but my phone is still dead and I'm using a nokia 1101. PLEASE someone help me, pof are you back? can you help me?

and this one too:
and tested qtek 2020 rom but no use.
from what I've found out my device hang up and stop responding when it gets the "INFO 2" or "INFO 3" or "TASK 32" or perhaps any thing involving CID so no upgrading utility is able to connect to it, the only thing is to connect to it using "mtty.exe" which I've tried any command found here, but no use again.
and my SPL is 1.04

Wrong, you also need a patched radio to CID unlock. Running only the exe file without the patched radio has no effect on the unit.

HI,
I have same exactly problem on my spv m3100: since sept06 I've tried every kind of Unlock software, upgrade ROM and method found in xda..In mtty bootloader (spl 1.04) respond at every command but not "info 2","info 3" and "task 32".Sd card method works but if you try to upgrade other ROM,in your screen "loading..." and then "checking..." hangs on because the ROM upgrade must to match CID (I suppose..).I'll wait the next ROM Upgrade and ORANGE won't release it until gen07..

it seems your problem is like mine if so, I don't think ANY normal upgrade can solve your prolem 'cause it can't connect to it.
so don't wait and send your device to service center, if you can.
I'm in your same conditions:there's no repair center here so I have to wait Orange who release a upgrade Rom (I hope asap..).
Hello all.
I was flashing a ROM (VP3G's new ROM) when my USB cable jiggled and became disconnected from the computer. Now my phone is stuck in the tri-color screen.
I have read through some of the unbricking material and have not had any luck. There are many pages which I will go through to try and not have to send my phone to repair.
Here is my info.

Everytime I try to check if my phone has KITL enabled, it does not tell me. I am downloading Windows CE right now and will attempt to recover using the PB + KITL method ... but I am hoping to get a little help if possible. The main problem is that my phone will not ActiveSync ... so I cannot try to flash another ROM. Whenever I try, I get a message saying that the computer cannot communicate with the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please do not flame ... I am working on trying to fix this myself. I am just asking for a little insight.
Thanks,
Kangle
Have you tried SD Card flashing method?
Have you tried simply flashing another ROM, with the phone starting in bootloader mode?
Are you using CustomRUU to do the flash?
Have you tried a hard reset?
Have you tried mtty - task 28?
Have you tried SD Card flashing method?
This is the only promising thing I have not tried. I am looking for more information about how to do that. Once I find it, Im going to buy a Micro SD card tomorrow and try.
Have you tried simply flashing another ROM, with the phone starting in bootloader mode?
Yes. ActiveSync does not recognize the device, so I havent been able to flash anything. I always get the 260 error. The phone is stuck in bootloader mode (tri-color screen). The phone does switch from USB/Serial when I unplug the USB cable from the computer. It almost makes me think that if ActiveSync was working, I would be OK. But I know ActiveSync does not work unless you have an OS installed.
Are you using CustomRUU to do the flash?
I am using RUUWrapper.exe from vp3g v3(1).62.0_ATT_Full.rar. Ive been reading for a couple hours, so I am not 100% sure if that is what you mean. I have also tried RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2[1].06.502.3_6275_1.33.31.00_108_Ship.exe among others with no success.
Have you tried a hard reset?
Yes ... failed.
Have you tried mtty - task 28?
Mtty allows me to hit the USB button, but the white screen does not allow me to type anything.
*After restarting my computer, mtty started working. I did task 28, and here is what I got.
Cmd>task 28
Storage format start

Thanks for your response. Im really trying to read up and figure this thing out. Im trying the KITL method now. I really appreciate any input anyone can give me. Im not going to sleep until I get this thing fixed.
Hope your joking re not getting any sleep. I have done this once and ended up making so many mistakes that the sensible thing was to pack in and get a few hours kip.
Amazing what difference a new day makes in terms of clear thinking and putting a seemingly insurmountable problem into perspective.
Hope you get it sorted.
WB
Well, I wasnt joking ... but I ended up lying.
The phone will go into bootloader mode and now when I reset it, it goes to the splash screen. Everything appears to be fine, minus the operating system. I believe my radio is still intact (1.41.00.00).
Im being optimistic that flashing from the SD card will work. If not, Im really going to start getting nervous. Ill let you all know how it goes. I did find the thread on it, so Ill be ready to rock here in a little while. Im going to hold off on the KITL method, but I have done most of the steps and will give it a go once I try this.
Now Im real nervous. I tried using the Hermes SD card flash with a NBH file, and it does not work. It says "Loading ..." .... then at the top of the screen it says 00068002. I did flash the card using Fat32 and named the file HERMIMG.nbh.
Starting to look like Im going to have to send it in ...
Im going to keep scouring the info ... try the KITL method. If anybody has an answer or can point me somewhere, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks again for all your help.

Whenever I use mtty to hookup to phone, I do not get USB prompt, but I do get Cmd line. And it does seem to communicate with phone. Here is what task 28 shows.

***One more note ... I have disabled ActiveSync USB detection. When I reset phone into bootloader mode, I then plug the phone into the computer, which then shows USB in bootloader. Then I run RUUWrapper.exe, and then choose SPL-1.11. It acts like it is going to update ROM, but then it stops at 1% and give error 270 - Image file corrupted.***
If anybody can help, I would greatly appreciate it. Im to my wits end. Im expecting to pay at this point, so if anyone can get me going without sending it in, there will be money heading your way.
Thanks to all those in advance who will help.

THE BRICK HAS BEEN FIXED!
WOOT WOOT!!!
I did not really do anything different than what I had been trying before.
I used mtty and did the following.
task 32
task 28
Then I unplugged the USB from the computer, rebooted the phone in bootloader mode, then plugged the USB back into the phone. Then I ran RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe and it worked.
I do not understand why it didnt work earlier though ... I ran other official and unofficial Cingular ROMS and did not have luck. Either it would not find the device, or it would and freeze up on 1% and give me a corrupted ROM message. I really did not do anything different as far as I can tell. I must have though, b/c it didnt work 100 times and then all of a sudden it did.
At any rate, thanks to those who responded with their advice. There is a ton of information on this board and I know alot of people have spend much time trying to help noobs like me. The information can be found if you look hard enough. Use Google to help find posts on here. It helps alot.
Thanks,

Hi gents,
I finally managed to put my hermes in unusable state and would appreciate any suggestions to get it working again.
Here is the situation: My phone is Hermes 200 with SuperCID and bootloader IPL-1.04, SPL-2.10.Olipro. Currently it sits stuck in tri-color bootloader mode and it doesn't matter what I do. Within last 24 hours I tried to change the boot flags "set 14 0" and "set 16 0" respectively at least 50 times without success. I flashed about 6 different versions of roms including original HTC distributions for WM5. Nothing happens.
As far as history is concerned, I flashed many roms since Black 1.0 onto my TyTN without any problems. two weeks ago, I tried one of Pay's roms trying to get something faster then Schap's 4.22 I was using. Got stuck in BL but could recover using the "set 14 0" and "set 16 0" commands. since then, I had couple of occasions where phone got stuck in BL after rebooting it. Removing and reinserting battery always helped. Last thursday, I donwgraded my radio from 1.54 to 1.43. You all know the reasons. No problems. Since then, phone worked like a charm and even power consumption was good. Yesterday, my battery ran out and in order to preserve it, I turned of the phone. Stuck in BL since then.I believe that the problem is that my SPL got somehow corrupted.
So my first question is, how do I reflash HardSPL from WITHIN BL with no access to OS? I can still talk to my phone BL through mtty and get all info etc.
Again, any help would be appreciated.
Roman
Please remember I'm new at this, but have you tried the sd card method of flashing? Hard Spl ver 7 has an .nbh file like a rom upgrade so this may be your best bet. Cheers.

Didn't try it first as my SD card contains programs/data which I would like to backup first before formatting it. Unfortunately, my laptop with XP refuses to recognize it as a formatted drive for some reason after insertion. I have 2GB KingMax with adapter.
From SPL 2.10 Olipro to dead phone. It's getting worse every minute.
Well, guess what. My phone just decided today, around noon to boot into OS! even though I tried to reboot it several times during morning without success. So I left it alone, without resetting it until I got home. Spent plenty of time reading wiki and upgrading posts etc. While doing that, I backed up my SD card via ActiveSync file access and erased everything on the card. I also copied HardSPL v7 RUU_signed.nbh on it and renamed it to hermimg.nbh.
Going through all the info, I decided to try DOWNGRADE SPL 2.10 to 1.10, following mrvanx's guide and links, as it is still HardSPL. Well, the update process went without a hitch. It loaded SSPL on TyTN and flashed it with 1.10. No errors. It reset the phone and stopped in BL. Again. This time, it says 1.10 Olipro as it should. Going ty mtty after USB connection, and running info commands, reveals some differences as info 2 NO LONGER reports SuperCID as it did before. It just prints the HTCS marker. The phone is still SuperCID I believe as task 32 reports level=0.
Remembering that removing and reinserting battery sometimes helped ( I forgot to try the set 14 0 and set 16 0 ) I removed the battery. About ten minutes later and more wiki reading, I realized I should try the set flag commands. So I reinserted the battery, reboot and NOTHING. And I mean nothing! The phone is as dead as it could be. NO LIGHTS , NO DISPLAY, NO RESPONSE WHATSOEVER. Did I just foo bared my IPL ?
Sorry to hear that, best bet would be to pm Olipro and see what he has to say. He is the Guru when it comes to SPL. He may have an idea but if you cant get into bootloader then phone is probably foo bared, Still, I'd see what he has to say, might pull a miracle out of his hat...
Resolved. My TyTN is alive again

I still think it's fixable. When I turn the power button on, or plugin the charger, there is significant delay ( about 1.5 - 2 seconds ) before the BL starts. I think that the IPL is trying to boot the OS image but something goes wrong and it aborts and starts SPL. If the NAND is corrupted, it could be re-verified by a proper walkthrough and marking of bad blocks. I have done this at work while writing device driver for another Samsung NAND. I still have the code somewhere. Unfortunately, I don't know how to make it into signed nbs so it can be loaded and executed by SPL as a diagnostic utility.

Hi All,
I'm new to the PDA-world and the Hermes. I'm trying to Hard SPL my Hermes, but it fails everytime.
When I run 2.10 - Hard-SPL-V7, it kills activesync and my connection is lost and I get always the message "error 260, Update error".
I have the latest framework edition and tried it on 3 pc's (1 Vista, 2 XP)...
What am I doing wrong?
Hope somebody can help me....
Kind Regards,
Micha
1). dont connect to active sync. open active sync and untick "allow usb connections".
2). put hermes into bootloader and connect to usb.
3). run ruu_wrapper.exe
should update to hard spl....
dont forget to tick "allow usb connections" again or you wnot be able to sync..
error 260 is an open port error.
if you wish to flash new os would advise to use sd card method. its safer than using the computer. just make sure you have greater than 50% battery power. happy flashing
Thnx, will give it a try.
First I have to flash HardSPL before I can flash a new OS, don't I?
yep, sorry, should have said run the ruu_wrapper for hard spl. My bad...

NOOOOO, that won't work, you need the SSPL to deploy to the phone, if you're running stock HTC bootloader this won't work at all, otherwise we'd have no need for Hard-SPL
hey olipro, then how would i fix this. Im running the stock rom from the HTC website with no hacks. Im trying to load PDA Corners V9 rom. Any ideas on how to fix? thanks!
Take a peek at the guide i wrote about updating the hardspl. Theres some explanation about why we need to use SSPL and the procedures.
http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/hardspl
thats the guide i used. it still gives me the error. I even unchecked "allow connections" cause i read somewhere that that would help.
i did this two days ago on my phone, im running windows vista on my home laptop and got any number of errors and problems trying to do it via sync with the phone (even after reading the vista troubleshooter, with the drivers etc)
What i ended up using was the memory card upgrade, dump the file onto the memory card and go into bootloader with the card installed.
worked fine doing that way, maybe less risky as there is no chance of the usb cable coming out.
just make sure you have a good battery charge on the phone.

I have read a lot of posts and have tried the sd method (although i am not 100% clear) and all i get is the screen with four colors, red, green blue and white.
I believe this is the bootloader? I have downloaded RUU_signed.nbh, renamed it to hermimg.nbh, installed on root of my SD card and held OK, soft reset and power button:
My display reads:

This is where my journey ends.
All post indicate that the device can be reflashed and have the OS reinstalled. I can't get there from here.
Can anyone please help?

How big is your SD card? Flashing only works with cards <2GB. Also, sometimes certain cards just don't work for flashing, and just swapping to a different card fixes the problem.
I assume you searched the wiki, and found the relevant pages on the Hermes (including SD Card Flashing and other things about flashing/upgrading) there?
Still Lost
My SD is 2GB and I have tried many times but i just keep getting the 4 color screen. rt now when i boot from the SD my screen goes white and displays "Loading..." and then returns to bootloader screen. When i attempt to flash the rom via PC to WM5 or WM6 i get the Error 260, i also get a vendor ID error sometimes.
How can i find the key 8525 thread that i am told has the answer to my delima? I keep picking up bits and pieces but am missing some key steps and tips.

That sounds like the SD card is formatted incorrectly. Make sure it's formatted using fat32, nothing else will work.
Still not there from here
Thanks for your help. Before I formatted the SD FAT32, nothing would happen doing the bootloader reset. OK/ON/reset button.
After format and only the hermimg.nbh file renamed as indicated, I then get what looks like the loading process but back to the bootloader screen.
Q1: This is an AT&T 8525, it was perfectly fine before failure from WM5 to WM6 (process froze at 20%), what is the RUU file that I need to put on SD??
Q2: After "Loading ..." I try the WM5 PC upgrade of ROM via USB cable, I get the load process to appear to work but it gets to 1% and the phone reboots and the PC reports error [294]: Invalid vendor ID. If I do this again I will get the Error [260]. Ive repeated the process several times.
Is this the normal course to take or should the "SD Method" (with the WM5 or WM6 RUU.. file) complete the process to a working OS?
Q3: Is my situation hopeless? ATT will take my out of warrantee 8525 and reflash for $129. Reading the threads it seems that like me this can be done by me, this is my desire.
Q4: I still am confused by some basic terms and assumed steps. I dont understand "Hard SPL" or OLI's IPLs/SPLs and when and when to use them.
The newbe guide has been off line. I will look again. Is there a single place to read about "radio PDAs and the 8525 and understand the software build and custom options?
Sy for the long post. But still want to fix if possible or I will be force to mail in for ATT repair.
Thank you all.

Oh boy, you haven't installed HardSPL? You are walking a bit of a line there mate...
HardSPL is a custom boot loader that makes bricking your phone when flashing much harder to do, and helps large amounts in the recovery process if you phone does brick.
Does the phone boot at this point? If so, do not try flashing the phone again. Go get a copy of HardSPL and install it, then try flashing from the SD.
I still wonder why people didn't read before bricking...
Anyway, you should start reading now and wiki is your friend. Your SPL is 2.03, so look at the bottom of the page (there is only one solution till now, so good luck with that):
Code:
1. Boot OS using KITL+PB
2. Do no disconnect your HERMES till the end of the step 6
3. Download SSPL on HERMES by wifi from ie explorer
4. Launch SSPL then flash Hard-SPL from your computer
5. Put your hermes in bootloader mode
6. Flash any radio in NBH format from your computer
Still researching and working this bricked 8525
Thanks for coming to my aide. I believe that I have Hard SPL'd my device. I downloaded Olipro's Hard SPL v7. extracted the RUU_ file and renamed to hermimg.nbh.
I then put it on an SD card and held the keys and reset. The device displayed a white screen and "Loading..." appeared. Afterward the 8525 returned to the stipped boat loader screen and that is where I am now.
Some of the help i receive and read on wiki threads has me confused with what to do next and how "exactly" to do it.
It does seem that I am not alone and people have fixed their phones and the process to do this is on the forum. I'm just still missing something.
Help me further if u can.
Thank you.

FYI: bad form to PM someone and post the same thing here. Keep it in the thread so others can be helped as well.
As I replied in the PM, if I'm understanding your post correctly, the phone boots to the tri-colour screen?
What text is showing on the screen? This will tell if HardSPL is on the phone or not.

We already know that the phone is without HardSPL, according:
My display reads:
HERM100
IPL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
This is where my journey ends.

There is small chance (read my previous post) to unbrick device with SPL2.03 so better try to get this back from where you take it.
And please, change topic, because this brick isn't HardSPL fault at all.
Edit: oh dear, it's even not your topic ...good game, I'm off
Hello, I am in serious trouble! I got a brand new HTC Athena with Windows Mobile 5.0. I succesfully upgrade it to Windows Mobile 6.0.
All was OK.
Than I was interested to move into Windows Mobile 6.1 and possibly 6.5. At first I did the Athena unlock (3 step process) and all went OK: Antenna 1.5.0, SPL 1.2 OLI....
THAN I DID MY ERROR! I try to upgrade my 6.0 ROM with the Micky 6.1 cooked file with SPL 3.5. After a 92 percent upgrade, the ROM crashed and now I always get a nasty black screen with few lines (No 3 color bands!). When I try to upgrade again the same ROM or ROM for SPL 1.2 I get an error (ID mismatching). I guess the only solution is a hard and full reset of the Windows. But doing only a hard reset with the PDA will NOT change my error message and I will keep see this nasty black screen and I cannot load the Windows ActiveSync application-
I am totally lost. Help please. Any tool for a true full restore/recover??? (I did NOT make any backup!).
This thread might hold a solution to your problem.
Hi
If you follow the instructions exactly in post 33, it will solve your problems. just click HERE

Hello, those links are basically for corrupted wifi antenna files.-
In my case my HTC Athena crashed the Windows 6 ROM while I was attempting to upgrade, after unlocking the phone, the Athena from version 6.0 to version 6.1
Are you sure I can use the post #33 also for my specific trouble?
Thank you in advance!
this is also to repair your bootloader-infos
if you look at your bootloaderscreen, you will see ATHE100, IPL, ATHE100, SPL. if not, you have to repair it
make sure you flashed the right rom, spl 1 or 3.5
How can the bootloader get repaired?
yes use that link, post #33. fixes both wifi and modelid problems and bootloader problems when you got stuck at 92% of the flashing process.
Cannot re flash ROM
Please help! I tried the unlocker and it failed at 92% and since then I have no WM6. Then I tried to flash the Michy WM6.5 and that failed. I was getting model id errors so I did the mtty and mac1 fix which was succesful. However all I can get now is a grey screen on boot-up. I can get to the bootloader screen and it displays ATHE100, IPL-v2.02, ATHE100, SPL-v1.20. Olipro. From what I have read on the forum at this stage I should run a RUU to flash a WM6 ROM but all that I try can't connect because no OS running to connect with Activesync? Is there a way to flash from the bootloader? The other option seems to be putting an image and flasher on a miniSD but I can't find clear instructions for this or which files?
Please ignore - my battery wasn't charged enough. Replaced battery and recovered device.
Still Major Problem! Help me! Have mercy!
Hello Responderman, all,
I have follow the link (thread 33)...., however, after I have typed lnbs filename.bin 75108000 (I have SPL 1.2), I got in mtty the "code entrypoint unknown" message, which should be ok......
However, after I have disconnected the usb cable of the Athena from the PC and try to reboot it, I got again the exact same, nasty, dark screen with blue strips.....:-( It means that my damaged firmware has NOT been fix and in fact I am still NOT able to boot WM successfully!
PLEASE HELP. It is 3 months with this problem and I cannot use my device.:-(
Still Major Problem! Help me! Have mercy!
Hello Responderman, all,
first, how can I get the mac address of my device? It is NOT written anywhere in the Athena parts (checked in the battery bay and so on.....), and so when I run mtty i am in trouble! I have used a mac address got from my company's manager, but not sure it is ok to use it with the Athena!
Anyway,......I have follow the post link (thread 33)...., and followed the various steps.- However, after I have typed lnbs filename.bin 75108000 (I have SPL 1.2), I got in mtty the "code entrypoint unknown" message, which should be ok......

Can you tell what you've actually done after you've changed ROM with Mtty?
I done the thing with Mtty but just as you described when I reset it now I still get the grey screen. And if I try to update ROM it fails again on 92%
where did you find the upgrade from wm5 to wm6?
the link I found on rapidshare seems not be availabel anymore
