Hermes radios and worldphone - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

With all these radios with increasing version numbers ( presumably updates) and comments about not working on some networks which can be a problem for international travellers.
I have a few questions.
- Do these radios all work well on the 2G (GSM, GPRS Edge networks)
- Is the problem of compatibility only on the 3G networks ?
- Do other manufacturer 3G world phones work well in all countries or is this specific to the Hermes platform radios?

Typically when I travel I'll try to find a radio which works well in the country I'm visiting, but this can be time consuming. I've so far found that by forcing my phone to GSM only I will often get better phone reception, but obviously at the expense of data - so you may be right that the main problem is with the 3G side of things.
I've found that the best rom so far is 1.38.00.10. I've used it in North/South America, Europe, Asia and Asia Pacific and don't recall any specific problems. 1.50.00.00 also seems promising but I always travel with a copy of 1.38 just in case.
My phone is the Vodafone VPA Compact III using with a UK O2 contract SIM. I also travel with an unmodified Nokia N80 on my Vodafone SIM. Often the Nokia will have a signal when my Hermes won't. This is usually because the Nokia has logged onto a different network and when I force the Hermes to that network (from auto) everything is fine again.

HTC Touch Pro Reception Problem

Hi All,
Few months ago, I've bought an HTC Touch Pro from Newpan Tellcom in Israel.
Yesterday I've left my Mobile Carrier (Cellcom) and I moved to Pelephone - Other Mobile Carrier.
Since I moved to Pelephone I've some reception/signal problems.
I know that Pelephone are working with UMTS/HSPA 850+2100 MHZ bands,
but my Touch Pro supports only HSPA/WCDMA 900/2100 MHz bands.
When I've tried to switch to UMTS band, the only option that I've got was UMTS 2100+800 MHZ bands.
In order to have good reception, I must be connected to UMTS/HSPA 850+2100 MHZ bands.
I've tried to Upgrade my phone's ROM to the latest EnergyROM 'Phoenix 2' buit 21877 and still I've reception problem.
Is there any way to solve this issue?
Please Help Me!
I think Touch Pro is known to be weak on radio reception. I myself in US am suffering the same problem. While my wife's Samsung phone gets four bars around our house, I gets only one on my Fuze. And my data connection keeps bouncing between 3G and EDGE or even GPRS.
I did some googling about the Fuze receptionn problem, and it seems to me that a lot of people suffer the same problem.
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/2216970/HTC+Fuze+Radio+Reception
But somebody in US claimed that a newer version of SIM card from AT&T will help the problem a little, and it was confirmed by some of the people went for the "solution", while the rest think it does not work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=460234
Don't know if the same possibility is available in Israel.

[Q] AT&T Titan Use in United Kingdom UK

I just purchased an AT&T branded Titan for use on T Mobile here in the USA. I didn't do my research properly and I just assumed I would get at least 3G. It seems not. However all is not lost if I can just unlock it and use it on my trips back to Scotland.
If I unlock the AT&T Titan will I have any issues just popping a UK SIM in there? Does it run better on some providers?
Thanks

You will need to check with the Carrier that you are going to use the Titan over there... and see which bands of HSDPA that they support. The UK Version of Titan seem to be supported 850/900/1900/2100 , but i don't think the AT&T version support 900 band tho. You will have to recheck.
Good Luck.
And yes, you need to get the SIM-Unlock code based on the IMEI of the phone and then you can insert any sim in and the phone will use it just fine as long as the carrier able to provide network for it.
Looks like you will only be able to use it on GPRS
UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ tri-band (2100/1900/850 MHz) and quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) and LTE BC4/BC17
Thanks for the replies. It makes no difference to me what network I use .
I'm having a hard time understanding the differences.
If I look at this page it lists what my phone supports..
http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_titan-4027.php
Looking at this it seems my specs match up with most major UK providers
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mobile_network_operators_of_Europe#United_Kingdom
Therefore shouldn't it work?
If it is limited to GPRS what are the limitations?
Thanks
Yep in theory it should, Just double checked and I posted specs for Titan2 oops
At&t Titan ie: Frequencies HSPA+/WCDMA 850/1900/2100 MHz and Quad-band GSM/GPRS/Edge 850/900/1900 MHz, Its missing 1800mhz for UK which basically means you cannot use T-mobile or Orange, But Vodafone or O2 or anything running 900mhz should be fine.
The 2G band list says "quad-band" but then only lists 3 bands. I'll bet that's a typo and that all 4 bands are supported.
I've used my unlocked AT&T Titan with local SIMs in numerous countries on 2100MHz 3G... works great.
I have at&t Titan from US in London with O2. Sometimes it woks fine on 3G sometimes doesn't work at all. I forced it to use only 2G and then it works fine.To force the phone Enter code ##3282# Then go to the Three blue dots on the right corner go to settings and in network type choose 2G or 3G depending on what you want.
Received my Titan 2 today from Across the pond, It's at&t branded but unlocked, It is working fine and shows 4G lol, I know it is just a 3G connection but no problems using it on O2, Had to manually input APN settings in cellular and that was it
Well that smile didn't last long, Can't send pic messages, Any ideas?
Hi AndyFZ1S have you tried the connection setup application from htc? Thats what i usedwhen i moved here and it worked fine. Still my 3g connection is poor or inexistant is most areas, i believe at&t phones are missing one band.
Sent from my Titan using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
^@andres22, Thanks & yes have tried connection set-up but it says the carrier is not in the database etc, 3G works fine I just cannot send or receive picture messages, There is no option to manually put in the settings either so am kind of stuck really,
Uhmmm funny that my setup apolication has O2 settings and yours not. Sorry man. I cant think of anything else.
Sent from my Titan using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
No problem, It may well be you have a different database on your at&t Titan compared to the at&t Titan2, Never mind, Hopefully there will be a way to sort it.
I'm having similar issue with Titan 2 using on T-Mobile US. MMS is the only issue. T-Mobile does carry Nokia 710 and HTC Radar. I wonder if there is a way to get settings from those phones.
Sent from my HP Touchpad using xda premium
The only way I can think of doing it is by flashing either a Stock Titan2 ROM (if it exists) or a custom one, That way Connection set-up would have most of the carriers in its database and not just at&t, But that won't be possible without HSPL or any ROMs, Maybe HTC could do something their end to update connection set-up etc?

LTE support

Hello All,
I have just purchased a Lumia 920 RED. On the box it says Nokia 920.1 CV FR Rouge.
It then says GSM & WCDMA and a load of frequencies.
Will this support LTE for internet (if my provider supports LTE of course).
Thanks for your comments.
Nicholas Cross
Since no-one has answered, I sent an e-mail directly to Nokia. Here is the response that they sent. It answers the question very nicely.
Thank you for contacting us with your concern.
This is in reference to your email to us asking about the support of the Nokia Lumia 920 to LTE (Long-Term Evolution or 4G network). We are more than happy to assist you on this.
In response to your concern, please be advised that all Nokia Lumia 920s support 2G, 3G and 4G network/LTE. This means that the phone can be used with the fastest network connection yet. This, however, will depend on the network provider you will be using your phone with. For example, if your current network provider do not support 4G network, the device's LTE capability will not be utilised and 3G network will be used.
To confirm this issue, we suggest that you contact your network provider and ask them if they do offer 4G network as the phone supports it indeed.
Looks like you got the European model.
The EU model has different LTE frequencies than the American one.
So depending in what country you will be using this device and what provider, the phone may support or not 3G and/or 4GLTE.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I have the European version (since I live in Luxembourg). My question wasn't really whether it would get 3G here because of maybe not being on the right frequency, but whether it would get LTE since it didn't mention LTE on the box at all.
I have updated the rom a new version that the Nokia Care Suite found, and now it seems to have changed something because now it often shows that it is connecting as H+. I also asked my phone provider if they offer LTE on standard contracts, and they told me that they don't (for the moment) offer LTE on voice contracts. They only offer it on data ONLY contracts, so for the moment this means that H+ is the best that I can get.
So far, I am impressed with the device, but I am slightly concerned with the battery life. It doesn't seem to be as good as the HTC 7 Pro that I had before, and my wife's Lumia 900 also seems to get better battery life.
The device is new, so it could be that the battery needs "conditioning". Will see how things go.
Have a good weekend!!

CV FR means Country Variant France, so you got the french version. german, french an belgium version should all support LTE 800/900/1800/2100/2600 so you will be fine (luxembourg uses 900/1800). i don't think there exists a version of the NL920 without LTE, but you can easily check it. go to settings -> mobile network and see what you can choose for highest connection speed. there should be 3 options, 2G/3G/4G (with the old Firmware it was LTE instead of 4G)

Orange? They will offer LTE for voice contracts as soon as they get VoLTE ready. sometime in Q1 2013 if i remember correctly.
Thanks for the info regarding VoLTE!!
I had already checked the network settings, and that was why I was concerned. On my phone, it only offered 2G and 3G!!
I have since updated (using the Nokia Suite) the rom, and now the 4G option is there, and I have also seen the H+ symbol show on my data connection.
my only concern now is the battery life, and that seems to be MUCH better with the new rom.
have a great weekend.
I have a Lumia 920 unlocked German version which brought support for the 4G setting from release. I recently flashed it to the Austrian ROM given that I live in Austria. That removed the 4G option. Last friday I then decided to flash the phone to Portico as I hadn't had that much data added to it and that restored the 4G option.
This is in line with what Nokia had been communicating for some time: all Lumia 920 devices have LTE hardware on board but it is not enabled on all pending a future software update. With Portico this now seems to be the case. H+ has been working nicely for me even with the 3G only ROMs which makes sense given that it is just a faster transfer mode on top of UMTS.
I couldn't try out LTE yet as my carrier only has it operational in some locations quite some distance from my home. Therefore I currently have limited it to 3G to avoid the phone looking for an LTE network all the time.

GT-i9100 network trouble!!

My brand new GT-i9100 is barely usable. I've spent the last week wrestling with it (bought it new from ebay) to get it to work, but I'm at my wit's end. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here's the problem:
My Galaxy S 2 (now rooted and currently running SlimRom) partially or completely loses cellular signal about 60% of the time, often in places where I know there is reception. I'm using Telus' network in Canada. It will lose data, lose ability to make or receive calls, and fail to send text messages. The indication of signal loss is not clear, IE it will say "emergency calls only", "no service available", or even say I have service but I really don't. However the cutting out seems to occur consistently depending on where I am located. For example I seem to get OK signal at my house, but zero at my friend's house. I know it's not the network in this case, since my friend is also on Telus and they get fine reception. I've done some testing and here are some possible causes that I can think of:
network cold spot - No, see example above. It also cuts out in urban populated areas where the signal is strong
phone compatibility - unlikely, since Bell offered the i9100M, which I'm led to believe is physically identical to the normal i9100, and Bell and Telus operate over the same frequencies. Also when it does get signal it can transmit data fine
SIM card - No. The first thing I did when I discovered this problem was get a new SIM card. Nothing changed
SlimRom - No. The phone was acting like this out of the box with the stock image.
Radio firmware - Unlikely. I've flashed at least 6 different firmwares, including KG6, KH3, LQ6, LP6, KI4, and even LD3, which I believe is the firmware the Canadian i9100-M ships with, so would logically work fine. The carrier for that was Bell, and I believe Bell and Telus operate on the same frequencies
a hardware defect in the design of the phone or the antenna itself - the last possible option I can think of. I hope it's not this, because then I would have to undo all the modifications I've done in an attempt to fix my phone, and pray the seller accepts the return
Please, if anyone could offer any assistance that would be great.

Well.. I think you got one of the Korean ones.. There is someone in China or Korea, or who knows maybe Samsung who is taking the SHW-M250S, a horrid Korean version of the S2 and changing the housing and software to make them look as the GT-I9100. Even the back labels say GT-I9100 and the software itself.. however, you can tell them apart because they are way lighter and very flimsy and also because the SIM Card tray is different from the one on the original GT-I9100.
So, I know it's very late but the problem is not you, is the phone. It might look brand new, but it is not compatible with networks in the US and many countries as Korea seems to use a different network standard. I was not able to get any data working on this model when I was in the Dominican Republic. I recently got a few of them in a lot of devices I bought for resale after I moved to the US and I couldn't get any of the 14 phones I got to connect to cellular. I decided to strip them off for parts.

LG V60 unlocked Lmv600am - works in UK?

Evening all,
Just a bit of advice, I'm looking to upgrade from my g8x to the v60. As the european/international version is virtually impossible to find, I'm looking at the unlocked USA variants of this phone. Does anyone have this model in the UK and can confirm that it works on 3g/4g OK? I've found different sources stating that some of the bands aren't present in the USA variants - not bothered about 5g, just as long as I can get 3 and 4g on o2 it's fine. Also tried frequency checker but it doesn't seem to list the v60 on there for some reason...
OK so I've just come across the website Kimovil, this seems to be more helpful - looks like the only one that is going to be any use is the Canadian variant of the phone, the USA versions from t mobile/at+t have most of the bands missing for use in the UK. Explains why they go for far less online!
Interesting have you got a link to that site or have a link of where to buy one that will be good for UK
Also looking to buy a v60 to use on the UK
Kimovil.com
Not really found anything other than links for the USA versions of the phone, they don't seem to have the correct bands for most of the UK networks. I'm just watching eBay and seeing what comes up...
I bought an ATT model, unlocked from Ebay. I live in The Netherlands and my provider, Simyo, uses the KPN network with 800mhz (band 20) and 1800mhz (band 3) for 4G/LTE. After inserting my sim everything worked right away. Calls, data, no problems at all. My provider does not support 5G yet
Edit: be aware that you will not receive updates like android 11 (if on 10) or security updates on the V600AM.
I bought the V600AM, I'm in the UK and I can confirm that it works with O2. The only issue is that phone will switch to 2G when making voice calls, soon after hang up it will switch back to 4G LTE.

OK that's useful to know, I'm still not sure about 3g support as where I live in the depths of rural Cornwall we seem to struggle a bit with 4g - it's OK when I'm outside but indoors tends to drop back to 3g, I can use wifi at least. Thanks for the info though

Yeah, the 3g coverage is a thing for me as I tend to only get 4g when outside, it reverts to 3g indoors and I think that may be an issue for me with this phone as it needs to be a daily driver - as far as I can see the USA variants don't support the right bands for UK use....

You could force the phone to be on "LTE Only" with an app from Gstore, but then you won't be able to receive and make voice calls. Not ideal, but considering this phone is from a US network,it will never be 100% compatible with UK Networks. If only someone would find a solution to root it!!!
Which bands use for UK?
Calls will be via 3g if your region coverage that bands.
