New to this...trying to upgrade radio on 8525 - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

I'm new to all of this and am trying to fix my ATT 8525. The problem is that I have horrible reception. Im in a 3g area but during calls people cant hear me and they hear crackling. I determined that on Edge vs 3g it works better...so I installed a hack that allows me to select the Band and force it to stay on edge. That helped a ton...but still not even nearly as good as my friends older phones or my sister's Treo 685 (?).
SO from reading it seems I need to update the radio? Its currently 1.40.30.00
Exactly what is the process to do this? I've read posts here and am a bit confused and am worried Ill mess it up...its still under warranty as its only a couple weeks old. can someone help me...in non tech terms, the process I need to follow.
Thanks!

maybe

so...
SO is the order of install:
HardSPL
then the radio update, with Radio upgrade only using CustomRUU 4.3?
Or is there a better, safer way?
What does, "You can now do radio only upgrades in Bootloaders other than SPL 1.04." mean? DO I have to install a bootloader or is it already installed from att and how do I check?
Sorry for all the questions - this is all new to me.

HardSPL will not make flashing the radio safer. HardSPL makes your phone *superCID so that you may flash ANY ROM (not radio or radio bootloader) even if the CID is different. So if your radio and radio bootloader are not locked down, anytime you flash a rom that includes the radio and radioBL, they will be upgraded along with it. Then you would have to do radio-only upgrades; if they are even necessary.
I would check the hermes wiki for information on flashing radio upgrades.
Personally, if the reception stinks in your area, I don't think flashing the ROM will make it any better. The cingular radio roms are developed by HTC for Cingular. Any differences in RF, imho, would be strictly due to environmental, geographical and cellular system factors. All this talk about better battery life and RF gains in newer radios is purely subjective and comes down to a he-said she-said situation. However, if Cingular has a new WM6 version out with a new radio included; you may as well flash it as it may help you out. I am not sure, but is the new Cingular rom an official final release? Or just a leak/test version?

I dont think its been officially released yet. Well, I am not going to worry about doing it now if the consenus is that reception will not be improved. Funny thing is that reception in my area is great...its this phone. All my friends and family have ATT and absolutely no problems. I have used it in 3 different major cities in different parts of the US and have the same problem in all. I love this 8525 for everything but phone calls. ATT is sending me a new one this week and I am hoping its better...otherwise I might have to get a different phone completely.

This is not actually true. HardSPL also prevents the IPL/SPL areas from being accidentally overwritten. It does protect you in the event that the file you are trying to flash is not a good file.

Problem with 1.54.30.10?

Hi every one,
i've got my hermes radio to 1.54.30.10 month ago. and i've just seen a Seniour member started a thread warning that the 1.54 series are unstable....
i haven't met any problems till now.. i wanna know if it's possible for me to downgrade my radio to 1.47 or 1.38?
I'm no expert, but I went from 1.54.30.10 to the official 1.54.07.00. Never tried going lower.
I just downgraded to 1.43 due to problems with 1.54.30.10 - start loosing signal recently

Yes, u can down grade to a lower radio version, it's done quite often (assuming u have hardspl).
Thanks a lot~
I'll downgrade my Radio as soon as I finished this semester~
By the way...
Are there any serious problem( known as bricked your Hermes) if i continue to using this 1.54.30.10 Radio?
i mean if it necessary for me to downgrade my Radio?
No hard evidence, but 1.5+ radios are suspected for causing problems - read details HERE and HERE
I start experiencing problems similar to described in the above threads, so just downgareded to 1.43
Cheers
not having any major issues with this radio ROM, been on the radio for more or less 3 weeks (touch wood! ) .. am on Celcom Malaysia 3G (UMTS 2100)
Similar problems here. Downgraded, but it may be too late, had numerous connection problems and slow 3G on tmobile.
Forget radio 1.54.xxxxx
From my experience - flashing radio 1.54 can brick your phone , lost CID and sspl .

Bad plan get rid of it now.
Use this one: ftp://xda:[email protected]/HERM_Radio_Only_1.48.00.10_CustomRUU.rar
it's not worth the risk of waiting.... you've been lucky so far. Current thought is that the 1.5x series ROMs drive the radio chip too hard and it overheats to extinction. First signs are drops and erratic radio performance. If you wait until you already got it you prob waited too long. But if you do get those symptoms before you reflash, then pull the battery immediately and (OK this might sound weird but it worked for a friend of mine) put the phone & the battery in a zip lock baggy and put it in the freezer while you get that radio rom I pointed at above ready.
When ready, put it back together and immediately flash the Radio with the 1.48 version. After it resets and does it's business.... reflash the 1.48 again.
Hopefully you will never see the problem again, if that didn't work then you may as well try calling your provider to see if they will replace the phone.
I've downgraded my radio to 1.48 about 1 month ago..
i'll show my grateful to u, thanks a lot!
radio 1.54.30.10 is working perfect on Orange Israel ,Kiyevstar Ukrain, MTC Moscow , and other Europe countries that i visited , this radio is the best i tried

So far so good .. nothing bad happen yet .. notice that my CELCOM 3G signal getting better ...
Same here, I have a better signal and connects to 3G faster than AT&T's radio 1.54.07.00, and I am on the AT&T Network
just to add to the the list of "satisfied customers" ..no problem whatsoever with my provider (UMTS 2100/GSM 900+1800)..
best downgrade and how to obtain it
I'm also experiencing similar problems. I have been running 1.54.07.00 for about 3 months and steadily experiencing more drop-outs on the phone service. I've ready different treads and some people have downgraded to 1.48 and other to 1.43. Is either one a better choice? And, sorry to ask a basic question, but where to I download the downgrade. I searched, but to no avail.
Hermes 100
Rom Version 3.62.502.3
Rom date 10/11/2007 (Oct 11)
Radio version: 154.07.00
I've been using this Radio on my Vario II since it showed up here (2 months maybe) and nothing happened. Signal strength is still the same. For me personally it's the best Radio I've been using so far. I'd be a pity having to downgrade now...

I've had the 'false roaming' icon on for a few weeks now in addition to a 'no signal' scare for a few hours. I'm thinking of just downgrading to the 1.43 radio that originally shipped with the WM5 AT&T ROM.

Radio decision help

My 8525 is running radio ver 1.54.07.00 and I noticed that my friends tilt gets 3G connections in places my hermes doesn't. Is there a newer rom with better 3g reception?
not a newer on for hermes...there is a 1.56 from trinity that some hermes users liked (look at it's thread info). Sometimes going back to 1.48 or 1.47 could be better than 1.54 depending on your location & carrier?
Best thing to do is say "I live >insert country here< & am using >insert carrier here<... Whats the best radio for me?". Radios differ country to country and carrier to carrier.. What works fine for me here in Oz won't help you in say Texas... Until ALL carriers use the latest radios (yeah right, I'll be able to jump off a cliff, grow wings spontaneously and fly to safety 1st) then someone saying this is best for you might not be true and could also harm your Hermes..
More Info always better for us trying to help...
Cheers...
I am in California, USA and on AT&T/Cingular.
Hmm had confused to about this radio version, is there any standard official release such a documentation that stated in which frequency does all those radio intended suitable for.
I had try 1.47.30.10 (my previous 1.47.0.10), then 11.56.70.11, but not so sure about the last and lately i fall back to 1.47.30.10. Why? Cause in latest Dopod 838 Pro official/shipped ROM (got from zocters's 4shared archive, thanks Mas), use this version. Play safely
So I should try the 1.56 one? Also, what rom is good these days? I currently am using CRC.

looks like from signatures I've seen, california is using 1.48 & 1.54 (read the 1.56 thread & see if u want to try that one).
for wm6.1 roms: CRC, DVH, & PDACorner are recommended! But, read their threads for details...

3.37.75 radio from VZW rom?

There is absolutely nothing in a radio ROM that ties it to a carrier or optimizes it for a carrier in any way over any other radio ROM.
I will post 3.37.75 here anyways.

ya... i realize there is nothing specific to the carrier but it would stand to reason that the carrier did their testing based on that specific release so it could possibly have the best results on their carrier?
I dunno.. I'm just wondering ... will try the radio you posted tho appreciate it!
I have noticed very little if any difference in signal strength between alltels stock radio and the newest i put on. Going to the new one however did enhance the ability of my gps with alltel stock radio i wasn't able to get anything in my office now i works pretty well.
So is this Radio ROM decoupled from the VZW ROM update so I can flash it and still keep the DCD 3.2.6 ROM that I already have?
I am on 3.42.50 but am willing to try this Radio ROM to see if there is any difference for VZW users but don't want to screw my phone up with VZW crap that turns off my GPS and Data and all that.
Yea, I am asking the same question: I know what dcd said earlier in this thread but I think it need reiterating: Is installing this radio going to screw up anything for those of us using dcd's ROM?
Also, I'm using 3.42.50; and this is 3.37.75... Isn't this a step backward (as far as version numbers go)? So what would be the difference?
P.S. The 3.42.50 radio rom, who/where was that originally pulled from?

i believe it was ripped from altel, but i read that radios are NOT carrier specfic
Just installing the 3.37.75 radio without the PRI won't screw anything up.
The 3.42.50 radio came from the Bell Vogue Rom.
Radios are not carrier specific.
Ok here is my question. Who controls the version numbers? Do all the radio ROMs come from HTC or do the carriers themselves edit them (not to be carrier specific, just in general..) then publish them?
I guess I just want to know if they all follow the same version tree so that 3.37.75 isn't actually newer than 3.42.40/50, but we can't tell since the # is lower.
I am curious too Why would VZW release an outdated radio.....

My guess is that when they started testing this ROM internally, that is the radio which was available.
OK, so if anyone tries this new 3.37.75 radio with the dcd ROM please post your results... GPS still run? Any faster? Better signal strength? etc etc etc

its not an outdated radio - you cant compare the numbers of the radio from one carrier with the numbers of another radio from another carrier since all carriers arent using the same radios (even though they may be compatible with different networks)
For example, the XV6900 is newer than the XV6800 but it is far from being better and in fact has a crappier processor.

I'm using it.. works fine... I was having probs with the new one switching to 1x mode and sticking there from text messages but haven't seen it yet on this one... all radios are fairly similar I doubt you can really tell too much of a difference unless u saw something bad happening with one of them.

So Radio 3.37.75 seems in some ways more stable than 3.42.50 so I wonder about the version numbering. One real improvement is in bluetooth. With radio 3.42.50 I can't use the serial profile with a GPS receiver and headset profile at the same time. The headset profile disconnects the serial profile with in 30 - 45 seconds and if the connection recovers it's only for short bursts. With the new radio both my GPS and headset work great in parallel.
I'm also noticing faster GPS response especially on cold start. Either way I'm sticking with 3.37.75 for now over 3.42.50.
Thanks
Scott

Anyone tried the Rhodium radio on the Touch Pro to enable Tmobile 3g bands?

Hi, has anyone separated the radio from the Rhodium Tmobile rom and tried flashing it to their Touch Pro? I was wondering if this would enable the Tmobile 3G bands because I am assuming they both have very similar hardware. I have the HTC Fuze if anyone was wondering.

Yeah someone did and they bricked their device if I'm not mistaken.
Read: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=497270
Man I thought it hasn't been done yet. Well, maybe someone can figure out how to do it. Maybe it was just a bad radio? I was reading through the Rhodium rom thread and it seems like they have gotten corrupted rom uploads before so maybe he extracted it from a corrupted source.
i hate to break it to you but it can't be done. the might have similar hardware but to date, there has never been a successful band change on any phone, ever. there is no chance as the radio version doesn't even affect the radio's frequencies. no matter what radio you flash, you will never be able to get Tmobile 3G from a phone that doesn't come with the 1700 or 2050 (We should come up with a name for this band because it's different from the rest of the world's 2100). I know the Fuze has the 2100 band but it is the rest of the world's version. Maybe in the future someone will figure this out.

DON'T DO IT!!! SERIOUSLY.
Yes, it was me who bricked his phone trying it. A simple look at the Radio number is a dead giveaway that the radio is completely different. But hey, if you'd like to brick your phone like I did, give it a go.

Wait a minute. Why would that happen if your phone is security unlocked?
I was thinking the same, maybe you flashed a corrupted radio? I am not telling people to kill their phones, just maybe someone smart enough to disassemble the radio and see if it can be used on the fuze.

The radio is incompatible with the phone. I was able to flash the phone fine, but because parts of the Rhodium radio stack appear to occupy the same memory area as the Fuze bootloader, the bootloader got corrupted by the flash, and my phone became a semi-brick.

Well, you can surely ask around, but P1Tater likewise bricked his phone trying to flash a Rose radio that was also incompatible. The same thing happened to him (corrupted bootloader).
I don't think there's anything wrong with the Rhodium radio from that ROM, but once the new 3.44 Radio is available, go ahead, have fun with it. I'm sure we'd all like to know what happens.
Yes, do NOT do it.
The Bootloader is launched by the OEMSBL or Radio Boot loader, with this overwritten you are toast. This is not a Tilt, so entry into the secure area is roughly impossible.
The rub is that if you do it you are screwed because the only way to recover envolves opening the device, finding the right place to solder & buy yourself a Jtag box.
Closing this thread so it fades away... hopefully everyone will heed the words of the Captain.

[Q] Definitive way to improve reception?

Okay, so I'm on the T-Mobile USA network. I've had a Dash 3G for a long time, and I've recently picked up an HD2. My Dash 3G gets full bars in my house, no matter where I am. But when I put the SIM card in the HD2, I'm lucky if I get any service at all. If I so much as LOOK at it the wrong way, the signal dies completely.
Is there a definitive way of increasing the antenna reception, or is the HD2 just like this all the time? Or is it just my phone? Is there a specific radio people have tried that have improved reception (I'm in Utah, if that makes a difference)?
Sorry, I'm still way new to all this flashing and stuff.
Hi,
I've noticed that with the HD2, antenna reception in my area was very poor until I upgraded the radio to 2.14... Then again, I mainly use the phone with Android and not WinMo. I suggest trying to upgrade the ROM (Stock if you don't wanna mess with HSPL) through the normal channels (HTC upgrade or Tmous upgrades) and seeing if that works for you. Otherwise if you're feeling adventurous, there are tons of guides to flash HardSPL which permits you to upgrade your radio only.

Excellent, thank you for this.
I have one other question, though -- What's the difference between the sections in that radio thread? We've got 2.xx stuff, and then we've got 15.xx stuff. Can I flash one each at a time, or only one?
