[PROBLEM] numbers changed into letters in all MENUs - HTC Startrek

Yesterday I paired my Qtek 8500 with Sony Ericsson K610i. I just did ordinary pairing, nothing else. I did not install any apps or so. Just clean pairing you all know. Few minutes later I wanted to write an email, so I went to the SMS box and wanted to press number 2 to open Outlook Email in Qtek. However I noticed that all numbers changed into the letters which you can see in this picture:
Well that wont be too big deal, only if it was just SMS. After comming home, I noticed the same everywhere in my cellphone. For example, in ActiveSync I pressed the right button and then 6 and it started ActiveSync synch via BlueTooth. Now I cannot use the shortcuts, I have to press up or down button. That pretty sucks.
Like I said, I did NOT install anything. I just paired the cellphones. Only paired, I didn't even discover available services for them. Just paired. So I think it's not worth of master reset.
And YES, I tried to remove pairing with Sony Ericsson. But no change...
I hope somebody can help.. Thanks in advance!

Well, this switch from nubers to alphabet letters happens to me every time I connect my BT keyboard using the HID profile. As I remember it stucked once on the phone even after disconnecting and restart of the phone. I have managed somehow turn back to normal. I think it was some registry value. Im gonna try to look fot that.
EDIT:
Here are my tips:
1) Try to pair the devices and disconnect/unpair the devices correctly - hope it will switch back to normal
2) or simply change the HasKeyBoard DWORD to 0 in registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell and restart

Thanks a lot, it works. I can't unpair my device because I need to test from time to time some accessories in my work on both phones (working for Sony Ericsson)

Cursed by Bell Ditty

Ok, I'm hoping someone may have some idea why this error is plaguing me.
After a hard-reset, the following behavior is observed on the T-mobile 3.14 rom.
1. Set Ringer (or leave at default) to anything.
2. Hit Ok.
3. Change volume to either Off or Vibrate.
4. Go back to phone options - ringer is now set to "BellDitty".
Odd thing is that when volume is restored, the phone doesn't play anything when an incomming call is received - not even the listed "BellDitty".
Anyone know what the problem is? How to work around it? Is the ringer just set in the registry? If it is, then it could just be a case of writing a program to restore the ringer ever 2 sec. or so.
Hope you guys can help - a phone that fails to ring is a misbehaving in my book.
Thanks.
Fixed!!!
After doing some hunting, here is what I found. If you guys have some spare time, try doing this to your phones and see if you have the same oddball results. From what I found:
When the Pocket PC is put into Mute, a key in the registry (HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0) named Sound is set to *none* or *vibrate* depending on what you mute to. There is another key in that branch named “SavedSound”, which has the ringer you setup in Phone options. Now, as long as you don’t go into Phone options and hit “Ok” while the phone is muted, the registry keys work just fine – as soon as you unmute, the value of “Sound” gets set to whatever “SavedSound” is. HOWEVER – if you do go into phone options and hit OK, it confuses PPC 2002. It writes the new sound to the “Sound” key, however it never cleans up after itself in the same way it would if you unmated. Now when you unmute, it looks to the Sound key to see if it says *none* or *vibrate* so it knows to re-enable the ringtone. When it finds the saved value from the phone applet (that you hit “OK” to) it assumes that the phone was unmuted, even though it wasn’t.

Well researched !
[ I've had this thought more often: do we have a Microsoft representative in the room here? If not, I guess we need to have some protocol for reporting issues from our collective brain back to the developers. (But ofcourse MS really needs to be here and read the forum if they're serious about making this a real phone.) ]

o2 XDA II software upgrade disaster

Hi
Unfortunately I was in the middle of upgrading the software to version 172181 when I decided, for some strange reason, to pick the phone up out of the cradle and make a call. DOH!
I can no longer get the phone to boot up / turn on it is just stuck on the low light o2 backscreen and shows
r 1.17.00
g 1337.20
d 1.72.00wwe
Im quite literally just stuck on that screen, the phone wont seem to reset, reboot or hard reset or turn on or off.
I assume im doing the hard reset correctly on/off button and reset button with stylus.
I did see somewhere to use the on/off button, camera button, record button and reset button with stylus but this does not appear to work either.
I don't know whether the condition is terminal or not but anyone can help i would really appreciate it I have a lot of information on there that is very valuable to me.

Many reboots

Hello everyone, I'm a noob on this forum, I found a lot of informations but nothing for my problem.
I have a HTC 7 Mozart since 3 weeks (with my french operator Orange) with all updates with Zune. My problems are:
- Sometimes reboot automatically when incoming call (not for all calls)
- Sometimes reboot automatically when incoming sms (not for all sms and after restart sms is loosed :/)
- Sometimes reboot automatically when … do nothing …
- Sometimes when I touch a tule, "Chargement en cours" ("Loading in progress") appears and nothing => I press the power button and "Au revoir" ("Goodbye") appears and do not disappears (i'm waiting many minutes) and finally i must remove the battery to restart the phone
- Sometimes when I go in Parameters menu (to activate/desactivate Wifi) I have only "Mode Avion" ("Plane mode") => I press power button and "Au revoir" ("Goodbye") appears and do not disappears (i'm waiting many minutes) and finally i must remove the battery to restart the phone
- Sometimes when I take the phone, it is very hot, the power button and the 3 sensitives buttons have no action => i must remove the battery to restart the phone (the battery charge has very decrease)
These problems increase with time, I met 5 or 6 reboots 2 days of the last weeks, and i can't continue to use my phone like this.
Yesterday I tried to uninstall all application (that I had install) and remove my email accounts but one reboot this night and 2 problems today (with no phone use) :S.
I don't know if it can be a hardware or software problem. Have you any ideas ? (I have some long conversations in SMS and some important informations in SMS and I hope that I will keep my SMSs (because there is no solution to backup or extract SMSs, thanks Microsoft ...)
Thank you
Hello,
First of all, have you jailbreak your phone? And have you try to upgrade the memory of your phone?
If the response of those question are no, try to make an hard reset of your phone (press Vol +/ Vol - and power button at the same time then follow the instruction).
If you still have the problem after that, I think you will have to send back your phone to the after sale service :/
Good luck!
Thanks for the answer.
No jailbreak and no change of the memory card.
I have seen the hard reset procedure but I suppose that SMSs will be deleted so I'm still waiting a little if an other solution is possible
I think you can probably use Microsoft My PHone web site. It gives you a simply way to backup your contacts and sms also.
-> Make a backup on microsoft Myphone
-> Hard reset your phone
-> Re-install your backup on your phone
Good luck!
Unfortunately MyPhone is not compatible with Windows Phone 7 . I found no way to save or extract SMS (lack of solution in this OS).
I had the same problem with my HTC Mozart, it was always booting making it impossible to use.
I have a feeling its just a damaged memory card but i send it to the store where i bought it so they could take a look.
I don't think you can do anything to solve it without loosing your warranty
Thank you, I'm not only lol.
I take my old phone today.
I still search a little and i will try the hard reset ... and after sale if its continue.

problem after hard reset following official Tango/firmware update

Hi,
A few days ago, I updated my HTC Titan (bought in 2011 in France as a sim-unlocked device) to the official Tango update (+ firmware update) through Zune.
Then, after doing a hard reset, the usual setup assistant is displayed, but at the end of it there is a new step that wasn't there before the update (titled "Almost Done") telling me that the phone is going to launch some kind of htc specific utility in order to configure my data connection for my carrier. Then after clicking on "continue", I see a black screen for about 15 seconds (like when an app doesn't manage to load properly and WP7 kills it because it took too long to start), then the start screen appears (but I don't receive the usual fake welcome SMS from Windows Phone).
I can launch apps, but the capacitive Back button, Start button, Search button don't react (they cause the phone to vibrate, but WP doesn't react to these commands).
After shutting down the phone and restarting it, I'm greeted by the setup recovering screen (titled "Welcome Back") telling me that Windows Phone will resume my setup where I left it (that explains why the capacitive buttons don't react: they were software disabled because Windows Phone considered it was still in first setup mode. Same for the fake welcome sms I didn't receive). Of course the same problem happens again when I tap on continue, and when I restart my phone.
I tried several hard reset through the usual methods (either through the about menu, or through the menu displayed using VolUp+VolDown at startup). Still the same problem. I guess it's a bug that should happen on many Titan devices. I contacted the HTC support and they told me to send my phone back to HTC for repair
Of course Zune won't let me restore the backup because of the firmware update not longer compatible with the backup.
Did anybody have the same problem with a stock htc titan rom?
I'm also wondering what is the new "HTC Log disable" command on the "CUST APPSBL" screen? I'm sure it wasn't there before the update. Is there some kind of htc specific logging that is enabled by default (since it is a "disable" command). What is being logged?
Also, the red diode (indicating when the battery is charging) is being lit during startup, which didn't happen before the update. Does that mean something?
Hi,
It is quite normal for the new Tango ROM to display that extra HTC specific step, even though it doesn't work!
I experimented with the Titan a bit and found that as soon as the Start screen appears after setup, before doing anything else, long press the Connection setup app in the app list and uninstall it.
It will enable normal functionality.
If needed you can always download it again from Marketplace.

It happened to me too!!!
Moreover, after a hard-reset the HTC Market disappeared in the market!
I disabled the pin to the sim re-formatted, and connected to electricity, and aftew few times HTC market reappeared (!), immediately updated ALL the htc software (even the connection wizard) and everything is OK now... exept the possibility to install INSIDER (by Microsoft)... it is said that the app is not available for my device (!!!) ... I used it until yesterday on my Titan with Mango... I REALLY DO NOT KNOW

Yes, exactly the same problem happened after hard-resetting on tango. I simply waited a bit with the phone on the main menu and the softkeys not working. After a while, I received the WP7 welcome text, and the softkeys started to work again.
maTTeo
Hi all,
I made a new hard-reset.
As suggested by maTTeo I simply waited even with softkeys not working... I only disactivated the pin on sim so that the Titan could find an internet connection.
After receiving the SMS of woelcome on WP7, I immediately upgraded all the HTC apps
Everythings seems fine for the moment...

XZ1 and bluetooth

How is bluetooth doing?
I preordered it a couple of weeks ago but I am a little bit worried about. I still can withdraw the order.
I have Sony's SBH54, Bose QC35 and a Peugeot 2008 car stereo, just to explain the case.
Thanks for the help.

Has anyone said there is issues with Bluetooth? I don't have Bluetooth in my car anymore but I had issues sending some files
Sent from my Sony Xperia XZ1 using XDA Labs
It has been reported by one fellow on the Sony's forum but he was the only one. He talked about car stereo on a bmw x1.
Curiously, symptoms was similar to the nexus' oreo Bluetooth problem.
I suggested him to get in touch with the car dealer but when I found the nexus thread I became a little bit worried: I have to drive a lot for commuting and I need noise cancellation at work, hence car stereo and qc35.
I had a Z5 and recently bought the XZ1. I use bluetooth on my car stereo on a daily basis and never had issues with the Z5.
The XZ1 however, is a hit and miss. It would connect fine but sometimes it either won't display media information or I won't be able to use media controls on my car stereo. Most of the time it would work just fine.
A solution which worked has been setting AVCRP to version 1.4 by developer options under the Bluetooth section.
QC35 are still to be tested because they've been sent to service, but car stereo and Sony SBH54 are fine.
I've already reported the solution to Sony's tech support.
XZ1 compact here.
No problems with my QC35, also no problem with my old car's bluetooth handsfree system (2005).

Old things used to be built better.
Thanks for the QC35 check.
I have noticed delays connecting initially to devices but fine after. I have noticed connection issues though with the new "near bluetooth" protocol. I can't connect to a Roomba Braava Jet at all.
Just found this, trying to test as we speak.
https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ1/Streaming-Bluetooth-audio-in-car/td-p/1264728/page/2
I have no problems using my xz1 with my srs-x11 and my peugeot 208 Bluetooth system. Mine works fine
XZ1 Compact Bluetooth complete failure
I have issues with all Bluetooth devices I regularly used with my previous phone. That includes a few portable bluetooth speakers like Ion Plunge or Philips PixelPop (connects but music does not play, hit or miss, had to forget and reconnect the devices manually almost every time), 3 different brand car bluetooth handsfrees including Volkswagen Go! bluetooth system, Opel Vauxhall integrated bluetooth, Renault Traffic integrated bluetooth. On car bluetooth either information is not displayed on the screen or device cannot be controlled from the car controls, sometimes when autoconnected to Volkswagen Go I see mute sign on the screen when my phone is not muted and music supposed to be playing. So much frustration considering that I got used to not having any issues with my old iPhone that I personally hated for many other reasons.
In case you guys haven't seen yet, there's various fixes coming with android's november update that should address most, if not all of those issues.
EDIT: I stand corrected, the mentioned updates are for the Nexus/Pixel devices, though I'm sure they'll be integrated into the Xperia device's software as well eventually.
I don't know where to put this, but this is the first thread that shows up on Google so I'll put it here.
I have had nothing but issues pairing my phone to the radio on my Hyundai Elantra. The headunit would report that it pairs successfully, but my XZ1 compact would never actually connect. Eventually "ELANTRA" would appear in my phone and the only Bluetooth feature available is Contact Sharing.
A few weeks ago some random method of me pairing and unpairing got it to work and I left it alone. I recently had to wipe my phone and start over, so I had to figure out how to pair this stupid thing again. I took note of what I did so I could share for others (and for myself when I have to wipe my phone in the future).
Delete all stored devices on your phone and headunit, and then go through the pairing process again. At the moment you successfully type in the Bluetooth pin code and hit pair, kill the power to the headunit. In my case, the radio lady was in the middle of saying "pairing complete" when I turned the key off.
The phone should switch from "Pairing" to "connecting", at which point you can turn the key back on. It should finish pairing and connect.
Hopefully this helps someone
I have a plantronics BT headset paired to my XZ1 compact and it kept disconnecting and reconnecting the next second. Sometimes the BT would show that is is connected but when i make a call, it isn't connected to the BT headset. I emailed support and follow their instructions below and still have the same problem, anybody experiencing the same? Hope there is a solution to fix this problem soon.
Thank you for contacting the Sony Xperia support centre.

Like the others I also have problem with the Bluetooth after updating to Android 9 on my XZ1.
The problem is on my car Head unit, I can play song thorugh Bluetooth without any problems but when I receive a phone call or make a call although Bluetooth is still turned on but the voice come from the phone and sometimes it switches between the head unit and the phone repeatedly so I have to turn the Bluetooth off and answer the phone. About Bluetooth Avrcp which is on 1.6, some said if you put it on 1.4 might fix the problem but it didn't. And I also checked the avrcp For Android 8 is also on 1.6 and I never had such problems on Android 8. This all happened after updating to 9.
It's been months I'm searching for a solutions and I'd be grateful if someone could help.
