Hi all,
i've found an alternative approach to flash any firmware on HERMES 200.
I had a problem while i was trying to upgrade my WM5 Vodafone 1605 to WM6.
My bootloader is SPL-1.09, and i've tried in many ways to install Hard-spl v7 but here is what was keeping happening:
- I try to flash my Hermes with hardSPL v7 and each time:
- Hermes switch to bootloader mode and display
HERM200
IPL-SSPL by Des
HERM200
SPL-1.09.ds
- Activesync lose the connection
- Windows XP send popup with new USB device and ask me to install the new device (no idea of driver not found by default)
- RUUWrapper display error 260
Click to collapse
Here is the solution:
- Download the firmware u wish to install on your device
- Unpack the firmware (right-click and Extract)
- copy the .nbh file into you microSD card and rename it as: HERMIMG.nbh
- put SSPL-HERM.exe into you device (you can get this app in this site too)
- now put you microSD card into you device and run SSPL-HERM.exe
- enjoy
I'm just an unexpert user that has tried many times to upgrade his device reading other posts on this forum. So pls correct me if i've said something wrong!
I wrote this post just cause i was going crazy and i wasn't able to find a solution like this around the sites
Hope this help somebody!
PS: I'm sorry for my bad english!
RUUWrapper display error 260? try to disable your firewall, flash again, and you will see it works.
regards chief
i've got the same problem with my hermes...
i don't know how to fix...when i start the flashing process the device switches in the bootloader mode and then nothing else is happening, there is no connection to the pc. i tried to switch off the firewall, i changed the cable, i changed usb port but nothing happens...
does anybody know what i shall do?
its the same fault as anvillani describes, the only thing different is that i dont get herm200 but herm300
Do you guys do ANY research before trying this???
Go to this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Go to page 116, post 1160 and READ it step by step, juymp ahead and this WON'T work. Just make sure you use a 2Gb or less sd card. INSTALL HARD SPL 1st.... Then you can use the sd card method (just skip the steps using sspl.exe as you should now have Hard SPL) to update your roms....
Cheers...
i really dont know what you want to say with this...
i tried the normal procedure to flash hard spl to my device and i tried the method anvillani suggested and both didn't funtion.
so my question is what i should do...
Follow the link and instructions in my previous post. It will allow you to install Hard SPL using the sd card method. You do need to be able to get to the today screen though.
After reading anvillani's post I'll add that the sd card MUST be 2Gb or less and has to be formatted FAT32. You have to name the .nbh file hermimg.nbh with NO speeling (sorry, spelling :b) errors or it won't work.
Cheers...

Just got Hermes vodafone with German language and successfully loaded hardspl and have it in supercid. Now i want to upgrade to english version, but i keep getting error 260. PDA stays in RGB mode and saying USB. If i disconnect the cable it switches to Serial.
I have tried to update with
vodafone 1.20.161.6 aku 2.3
vodafone 2.07.161.1 aku 3.3
htc 1.35.255.102 aku 2.3
they all report the same. Have tried rebooting computer as said in wiki, but no success.
i now use original
HERM200
ROM 1.20.126.3
RADIO 1.16.00.0
any idea?
Thanks
Are you sure it is a supercid? Write the SPL, can you boot os?
Yes, i can boot os fine.
SPL-1.40.Olipro
IPL-1.01
I did supercid procedure with success....at least i thoughts so. It's my fist upgrade, so anything is possible. I used HTC Hermes SIM & CID Unlock - v3a
Thanks
I have the same problem with my second-hand JASJAM. The only way I can flash ROMs on my phone is by using RUUWrapper and select force SSPL and this always works well.
COME ON people!!!
A simple search would have remedied this...its been a topic so many times now!
The reason the official RUUs wont work correctly is because of the fact that HardSPL has been loaded, hence the SPL version isnt recognised, you gotta flash the official .nbh file using CustomRUU.
But first update to the latest version of HardSPL (see the sticky thread).
When you run the customRUU program select your SPL version (or use autodetect) and off you go!.
EDIT:: to get you started, Hardspl is HERE.....flash it.
then open the RUU with winzip or winrar and copy over the .nbh file into a folder.
download CUSTOMRUU.....run it from that folder with your device synced over activesync....select your SPL and voila.
Silly fella's. Its alright though I used to make the same mistake. I think im better friends with the search feature on here than I am with my real friends. You can always rely on the the WIKI or the search.
Thanks for help mrvanx i manage to flash with no problems now.
Promise to read more wiki next time
My problem was the same described in this post (too recent SPL).
I similar problem only difference is now phone wont go out of boot mode as its not recognised by active syn or in the rom update procedure.
Please help urgently cannot restore phone...and i dont know how
If you have Hard SPl V7 installed, try to re-install the rom, or a different one using the sd card method.
1. Format 2Gb or less sd card FAT32 and copy .nbh file onto it. Rename to hermimg.nbh .
2. Insert into Hermies and reset into bootloader, hold power, OK button under flywheel and reset with stylus hold all buttons in until you get to tri-colour (bootloader) screen.
3. Follow onscreen instructions...
Cheers...
I inherited this device from a moron. So Moron --> Moron i suppose.
I am trying to flash any rom. I just flashed Schaps 4.40. Works great. It flashed with spl 3.00 from olio.
When i intentionally put it in bootloader mode, it goes to SPL 2.03
When i try to flash a ROM, it runs SPL 1.09, then returns with error 260 ( I have rebooted and reconnected, still same issues).
I am running Vista 64 bit. I have no idea what is going on. I get the same herror when i try to run the Hardspl7 loader.
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.
try flashing through the microsd card, see wiki for instructions
i shoudnt have to do the workaround with the storage card, that doesnt fix the issue. Isnt there a way to get rid of my outdated bootloader 1.09? That seems to be the problem here.
how the hell would you even go from spl2.04 to 1.09?? are you even freaking sure your spl is 1.09 and its not just the sspl?
use the sd card method and install hardspl, with it, i just posted a howto in the hardspl thread. if you still dont think you have to use this "workaround" then by all means go ahead and start troubleshooting, error 260 is an open port error, search for it, the step you should take to troubleshoot are out there
I'm in the same boat, when I do flash the boot screen shows SPL1.09. If I manually enter boot screen it shows SPL2.03. It did this after I ran the olipro sim unlocker and tried to upgrade it back to hard SPL V7

yes yes, everyone who is running the upgrade using the force spl is also having this "problem".....unfortunately, there is no known fix for this "problem" cause i dont think anyone really wants to fix it.

It never was 2.04, it is 2.03. And i followed your directions:
"ok, lets see if i get this right.
1. download hardspl v7 from the first post.
2. extract ruu_signed.nbh and rename it to HERMIMG.nbh
3. copy it to a microsd card, make sure the card is formatted as fat32
4. download sspl-herm from here
5. extract SSPL-HERM.exe and copy it to your phone.
6. insert sd card and run sspl-herm.exe on the phone.
7. you should see the tri-color screen and then it should change to this
8. press power button to start flashing
9. reset when you get the msg that its done."
This did not work. extracted, renamed, extracted, ran sspl-herm.exe from the phone, and it goes to the spl-1.09.ds bootloader, and never changes to the other screen.
Why does no one want to fix this? How many others are experiencing this issue?
Thread has been renamed in order to classify the problem better.

hi,
I have One Herm 100 Imate Jasjam. It came to me for the repair,i searched and found the solution in the forum. The device has no IMEI and No Gsm and booting properly but no network. So i follow this thread "How to unbrick your bricked hermes" Link is http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
and found that the solution from the given Table after answering the all the questions,so the solution is (1.) Flash Hard-SPL (2.)Flash any radio in NBH format.Do both steps using SSPL+ActiveSync.
i could succesfully Flash the Hard-SPL.Now i put the Phone is bootlaoder mode i can see that the HERM100 IPL-1.04 and HERM100 SPL-2.10.Olipro.
But when i am performing the second step that is "Flash any radio in NBH format.Do both steps using SSPL+ActiveSync" (i downloaded the Hermes_Radio_1.50.00.00_108) from the support and trying to upgrade the radio but it always starts and stuck at updating 0% and not moving further and an error message popping up saying error 260 and 262.I read the read me and followed all the instructions but all the time i am getting the same error.
So please guide me what to do?
Waiting for replies from all the PDA Guru'S.
Regards,
Moderate.
If you had of read you might have found this is a problem with VERY low probability of you fixing it....
So saying, try the sd card method, You have Hard SPL on the phone, do this....
1. Format an sd card fat32 and copy RUU_signed.nbh on it. Rename to hermimg.nbh.
2. Insert sd card and put Hermes into bootloader - Hold down power, OK button above flywheel and then use stylus to reset... Hold all three in until you get to the tri-colour screen A.K.A bootloader.
3. It should recognise the herm flash file so follow the prompts...
If the Radio only rom doesn't work you can try a stock rom... Best if you try the carrier rom it was initially.
If that doesn't work, at least you have a nice PDA.....
Good Luck, you're gonna need it...
Cheers...

Congratulations! You now have a Hermes PDA
I have something like this now
I tried flashing CRC13 via USB
at about 92% it failed. It attempted to recover and failed again.
I used a 1gb lexar MicroSD, copied the CRC rom's RUU_Signed.nbh to the card as HERMIMG.nbh
reset holding Power and OK buttons.
It flashed 000680002 and went back to the tricolor screen
Herm100
IPL-1.04
Herm100
SPL-2.03
I'm trying the KITL method from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=PB_KITL_HERMES
Any other suggestions?
If I let it attempt to boot normally, the CRC splash screen comes up, then brightens for a second, then goes blank. The charge indicator will respond to power, and the USB will make the PC "bu-bumb" but AS will not connect, explorer will not see it, and RUU_Wrapper will not detect it
Thank god... I DL'ed a factory OS, extracted it and ran the RUU_Wrapper and that did install
then installed CRC13 naked
All is well
Radimus, HARD SPL YOUR PHONE.... You were EXTREMELY lucky... If you are thinking about reflashing your phone you need Hard SPL ver 7 installed... It won't guarantee you won't brick your phone but will offer a safety net so you may be able to fix it.
Cheers...
for some reason the hardspl7 will not install via AS for me...
Is it OK to do it via sd card using SSPL-HERM.exe
Yep, thats actually my preferred method of flashing. Check out post 1160 on page 116 of this thread for instructions - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
You can also flash Os'es with the sd card method. Once you've Hard SPLed your Hermes you won't need to use sspl.exe but make sure your battery is more than 50%.
I personally wouldn't flash the radio rom from the pc as there are too many things that can go wrong. SD card all the way...
Cheers...

can someone kindly walk me thru upgrading my AT&T 8525 firmware or software. I originally received it w/ WM 5.0 later I upgraded to original Microsoft WM 6.0 . eversince, I tried flashing w/ cooked software ROM but it wont accept any flashing. I was told, I have to use a specific file to flash it, then I will accept any cooked software (ROM) . I apologize, I'm new in this matter, not even sure if I'm using the correct terminology. but bottom line I want to use other software other than the Microsoft WM 6.0. many thanks to everyone. rustyjack67
Mate, read this - http://www.mrvanx.org/guide/hermes/upgrades/hardspl
Then this - http://www.mrvanx.org/guide/hermes/upgrades/rom
Then this - http://www.mrvanx.org/guide/hermes/upgrades/radio
This should set you right.
To upgrade your SPL to Hard SPL V7 using the sd card method go to page 116, post 1160.
You can use the sd card method AFTER installing Hard SPL V7 for ROMs, just drop the steps using SSPL.exe.
Cheers...

You need Hard SPL V7. You SPL needs to be 2.10 oli. The thread I gave you will allow you to download it, its on the 1st page (about the middle - just look for Hard SPL V7).

Mate, there are dangers no matter what you use but I find the sd card method safest. Just make sure you have a charged battery, a 2Gb sd card formatted FAT32 & make no spelling mistakes - hermimg.nbh . About the only way you can stuff it up is to not have Hard SPL V7 installed and if you reset in he middle of the flash. A charged battery is a must, don't think you can charge it while it flashes, it doesn't work.
Happy flashing.... Man that sounds dirty...
Cheers...
This must the one your talking about.........

No problem, you go big boy...

I did everything right,
When it says to press the power button,
I press it, nothing happens.
I don't think im doing anything wrong, i've been trying this for 2 hours, and im very frustrated.............
You need 2Gb or less sd card.
It has to be formatted FAT32.
The .nbh file MUST be renamed hermimg.nbh and MUST be a rom for the Hermes.
As long as these 3 things are right you should have NO problems, however, if just 1 thing is wrong then you won't be able to upgrade ANYTHING...
Cheers...
Hi Guys
I need your help right now...
It's my first time I'm trying to flash my MDA VARIO II form WM 5 to WM 6.
I found this ROM here in the Board:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359917&highlight=Shamanix_WM6_Ultimate_v2_FINAL
I also installed HardSPL 7 Using this guide:
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=26
And now I want to install the new ROM Using this Guide and the File above:
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=17&Itemid=26
But when I click Autodetect it says: Error! Unknown Version.
Sorry for asking so stupid questions but i am a bit confused right now and I really don't want to crash my phone, this would be a mess....
Can Anybody Help me?
And is there Anything else to look after? I read something about CID unlock in the wiki, is this done by installing HardSPL?

First i would suggest reading the wiki pages as you may find something that could help, also it may not be detecting it as you do need to press accept or yes to run something on your hermes. although if it doesnt detect it you can see what spl you are running (press ok, power and reset button together) from there you can select what version you have on your devise it will also check whether hard-spl worked.
Hope this helps and good luck
Hard SPL is installed and I read the wiki, but I don't get behind the CID^^
The question is: Is this ROM Above comaptible to my MDA Vario? And anyway what is this CID?

If you downloaded it from the Hermes section then yes...
As you have Hard SPL V7(?) (check if SPL is 2.10 oli), try the sd card method...
1. Format sd card FAT32. Copy .nbh file to it and rename to hermimg.nbh .
2. Insert sd card into Hermes and reset to bootloader, Scotty93 told you how.
3. Follow the prompts...
Easy...
Yes I installed Hard SPL V7 and in the bootloader it says SPL 2.10 olipro.
I will try the method now *Wish me good luck*

Edit:
Hm i don't have an Adapter for the Micro SD Card, is it possible to copy the nbh File onto the Card using Active Sync, while it's in the Phone?
Edit: Hm n1 one I tried to formate my SD Card (Yeah I found the Adapter) but windows had an Error and now it hangs up everytime I try to access the card....
