What is the external antenna connector standard? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Accessories

What is the external antenna connector standard?
I am trying to buy an antenna but I can't get my head around all the connector standards. What is the name of the one on Hermes? Anything like FME female or something?
Also, can anybody recommend any good antennas that would cover the 2100 band (for 3G) ?

It does not use a standard connector. Do a google search for 8525 external antenna. You will find cables that let you connect the 8525 to standard cell phone external antenna connectors. There are also some sites with external antenna kits that include the external antenna and the adapter cable. Here is one site with both: http://www.alternativewireless.com/cingular/cingular-8525-accessories.html.

Thanks
Thanks mate !

How about tytn vs tytn2
Does hermes share the same antenna connector socket as kaiser? (tytn and tytn 2)?

XDA II Antenna Connector

Does anyone know of a source for a connector for this? I already have a GMS antenna with the standard FME connector. I am looking for an XDA II to FME pigtail??
I dont think the antenna connecter is for direct connection to an antenna, it does look very similar to many car kits though, the phone sits in the cradle and the connecter mates with its opposite number on the cradle, maybe you could cannibalise a car kit and solder the end to a cable.
Very strange, most other phones with antenna socket have a corresponding connector on a pigtail cable. Will have to look into trashing a car kit.
Maybe it is available, but I just havent seen it.

GPS Connector / External Antenna

Hello!
i've got two questions about the MDA 1 using in my car. After making me an freehands facitlity, there are two little problems at all.
a) I want to mount the GPS connector plug whit glue on my MDA cradle. This will work, i mean, but i must remove the two metal pins on the sides of the connector to be able to set and remove the MDA. Will this work or is it the ground of the plug???
b) Yes, there are a lot of topics about MDA and external antenna. I have the idear to use an antenna connector from nokia. there will be some one for Nokia 3310 like this (http://www.tele55.de/shop/produkte/5/84/054194.htm) and so on. will this work?? Has someone tested this or knows a better way to use the MDA whit external antenna?
THANKS a lot for any answer !!!!

GSM external antenna connector?

What is the external GSM antenna connector type in Hermes? MCX or something else?
where can i find such a booster ?
please help !
cudo
Cudo;
Read the threads concerning the external antenna. There are many references to some phones locking up when the ext antenna is plugged in. No personal experience, just remember reading about this prob in some threads.
NO PROBLEMS WITH EXTERNAL ANTENNA.
This is the connector I bought: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200109547004
I also bought a 9dB antenna that is dualband, designed for EDGE GSM GPRS UMTS.
Now my TyTN shows full bars instead of 2-3 bars.

May i ask why you went for the 9dB antenna?
When the one one the site is "according to them" is designed for the TyTN?
The 9dB antenna is only designed for the K-Jam. Is the antenna connector the same for both the TyTN and the K-Jam?
Regards.

Because I had hundreds of universal antennas to choose from and this one was ok for me, just made sure it covers bands I need. It has universal FME connector.
Then I bought a connector for TyTN and thats it.
so what does the other end connect to or does it just hang?
In my house I have the worst reception and I don't get 3G either... top speed (According to dslreports) I see is 150ish

It's not an antenna (the link above) It's an ADAPTER to connect a FME antenna to the TyTN.

External GSM Antenna

From the UK, looking for an external GSM Antenna.
We use a Vodafone (UK Carrier) version of the blue angel and our users experience some problems in remote locations with signal.
Are there any boosters/external antenna's available for the blue angel?
I've ripped apart one of our car kits and found this is what plugs into the back of the PDA
Probably a standard t-bar or whip antennae for the GSM/GPRS frequencies would work, the trick would be finding the right connector to crimp on... the socket on the back of the BA looks smaller than FME/SMA.
I found this. http://www.masterantena.pl/go/_info/?user_id=0060&lang=pl I need only antenna and see how this work. Connector name is ms-147.
is maybe possible to connect internal WIFI ANTENNA

car charger cable + radio antenna

Hi everybody!
I would like to use my TOPAZ with GPS and TMC in my car, but without charging, the batterylifetime will be very short.
Does anyone know if its possible to get an charging cable witch integrated antenna for cars, or something similar I can modify to do this job.
Maybe I can combine a normal Headset with a charging cable.
thx
I am using this one. Very good to fix and give a good position to view the GPS maps. Besides, recharges battery and has a speaker/mic system so that you don't need to enable the speaker on the phone to receive or make calls.

Haven't found any one with a antenna for either GPS or Cell radio, yet. It seems TD2 won't support external antennas.
Regards,
Roberto.
yeah, i'm looking for such a cable too. but havent found any yet.
cant be so hard to integrate some wire for radio in a charging cable.
i bet a lot of people would like to have it.
update: now i found two accessories which might help.
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Audio-Cha...17?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1250514224&sr=1-217
http://www.amazon.de/Diamond-Y-Adap...r_1_28?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1250514463&sr=1-28
i think i will check out the first one and hope it works for the antenna too.
Home made cable
It's very simple to make the cable yourself. I have done it and it works perfectly...
What I did is the following:
1) I took the headset from my old Tytn II (or use the new one if you can lose it), and cut it just before the volume control (seen from the phone).
2) I cut open the usb connector, took off all plastic insulation (is some work) and disconnected all cables except for attachment number 7 (see figure), which is the antenna cable (this is the strand of small copper cables without further insulation around it).
3) I took a car charger and cut off the usb connector and soldered the two wires to attachment numbers 1 (red wire) and 5 (black wire).
Be very careful to solder very well, because you don't want any shortcuts...
Voila it's working.
Even better is the following (which I'm going to do now, now I know it's working):
1) Buy the following connector:
http://www.coolcomponents.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=27&products_id=266
2) Solder a simple cable of about 0.7 mm^2 and 75 cm long to port 7 and solder the car charger to ports 1 and 5.
That's it...
Combine this with the following software:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512630
And you will have TMC available in IGO or other navigation software.
Hope to hear if it works (for me it does). I have TMC now and charging when using my IGO, and besides I can use my bluetooth carkit, because it doesn't think there is a headset connected to the usb!!!
@amraam12: Wich rom and radio rom version you are using? I tried the same, but no luck: when putting +5v on the charing line, the radio gives no signal. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=535358&page=3)
rom
rom: 1.39.114.2 (47382) nld
radio: 3.43.25.19
Antenna only
amraam, in case I just want a better reception provided by an external antenna and don't need to recharge while connected, if I solder an antenna connector to pin 7 (and 5 = GND) in a extUSB connector I'll be able to have much better reception, right?
How about using an antenna like this (http://www.wpsantennas.com/301103-wilson-cellular-magnetic-mount-cell-antenna.aspx) for that? Do you think that may work to improve reception on low signal places?
From your tests, how better is using the external antenna?
Thanks.

That is a TMC (Traffic Message Channel) antenna. It is used to receive info about traffic from a specific FM channel so that GPS can calculate better routes. I don't know exactly if it is connected to pin 7, but probably is. To use that service, it should be available in the place you are driving. I am just guessing, but Pin 7 seems to be only a connection to an antenna for FM frequencies (around +80 ~ 108MHz).
I haven't found anything stating it can also be used to received external GPS or Cell Phone radio external antenna signals. These are all very different frequencies, btw.
Regards.

Is it possible to receive fm stations on td2 while it is connected to this charger?
If so, maybe also tmc data could be received by it without pluging in the headphones.
