Okay well i'm not so sure about this whole 'upgrading' process.
people say wm6 is a significant speed increase from wm5. is this true?
my at&t 8525 out of the box ran and still runs like a charm since I got it on christmas. whenever I am loading an application or process of any type. its quite speedy. when I change the screen orientation, it beats my friend's tilt. as well as my friends cingular 8125 with a cooked faria's wm6 rom. so even though I l like the UI of wm6, I still need a little convincing to move me away from my at&t wm5 with spb pocket 4. any input?
p.s - my first topic typed from my hermes =)
try it yourself. we all have different experiences, thus us telling you our experience might confuse you even more.
that's what I was hoping for. more opinions to confuse me and make me think
My experience with this blasted thing is don't fix what aint broke. If it's running how you like it, leave it be
There's nothing really wrong with WM5, I used it on my old XDA Exec (HTC Universal) while I had it and I liked it.
WM6 is an improvement though in my opinion as it has more options, better web browser, and the whole thing looks prettier to the eye. It's also meant to be quicker than WM5, and being the latest operating system for Pocket PC mobiles it seems silly not to upgrade.
That said, I found the whole upgrade thing a little confusing at 1st and I wasn't aware of the terminology. I advise reading the forums for a little ut and asking questions on anything your unsure of beforeyou attempt to flash your phone.
By the way, Windows Mobile 6.1 has just started comming out now as cooked roms, so if youupgrade you might want to try a version of that. I'm running CRC's WM6.1 version 6 and so far I'mpretty happy with it!
i personally think wm6 is not meant for 8525, i've tried most of the popular benchmarked wm6 roms and they all seem sluggish compared to my original ATT wm5 rom.... well maybe because bad processing speed that is one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to phones.
other than that, wm5 does look prettier and im sure those roms have the latest radios, bluetooth drivers, etc.

DCD or nue?
Which one you think will come out with a new one first? Looked through the bugs for Nue3pre3 and looks like alot (a few which prevent me from going their) as for DCD am using 3.2.6 right now (a few bugs which others have reported but usable overall)
no arguments as to whos is better and what not... just who thinks who will out the next one first (DCD had a leak due to a friend testing for him and nue has been saying hell get 3pre4/whatever out for like the last month, and its been the bigges break in updates that I can remember for the Titan) and being as my MB BIOS and VGA BIOS are now at their latest versions (well MB has a BETA version that ACTUALLY fixes a MAJOR problem i had) and my phone with its lack of memory problem is just begging for an update/flash (and VGA drivers! come on http://www.htcclassaction.org/ finish the drivers already)
Simple as that... (well not so simple... but whatever... im literally going to passout)
Betting On
Im Betting on DCD. They both are very creative but I think he will be the first to come out with a ROM that is new and improved. Who knows he may borrow some of nue's memory saving techniques.... That would really rock.
no2chem's latest blog entry states he is coming out with a combined NueROM3 kitchen (along with Touch Pro/Diamond) for Titan in next couple days. He states he hasn't forgotten the Titan. I'm running his pre3 release now and I like it. Sadly, I'm not nearly as optimistic about DCD releasing anything further. I ran 3.2.6 almost forever and he's the first rom developer I liked so much that I felt compelled to donate to in support of his work. Don't get me wrong...I got my money's worth and more but I think DCD has moved on to other things. In the grander scheme of things I don't think there will be many more (or any at all) 'Titan' releases since the manufacturers are releasing new hardware, etc and our device like all others before it will eventually become obsolete and less interesting which is a shame cuz I really like the Titan. Just my .02
I win!
DCD Has posted a ROM today.
dcd's titan ROM 3.3.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=444239
LOL i hate to totally disagree with you blueglide... but... DCD's rom got leaked a little while back when he was giving it to a friend to test for him! meanwhile nue has gotten the Touch Pro and ever since that nothing else for the Titan has come to light...
also... DCD just posted his new version... LOL

Wow...I called that one wrong....maybe I should express my opinions more often...LOL...can't wait to try it!
lol! you should!
But anyway... as it stands... i dont know the situation with DCD nore do i care to follow it o so well (but i do check this site EVERY day to see if something new is released and what changes have been made, but not only for DCD's rom)
as for nue... hes a bright guy... and very talented when it comes to programming/gfx designing for the WM environment... however... being one of those poor people who cant afford to upgrade to the TouchPro... I kinda feel like nue has been a MSFT developer (WM on Mogul) and all the sudden upgraded to Linux developing (WM on TouchPro) and therefor quality of/existance of work for the titan will diminish more then it already is
(i hope that explanation was easy to follow... basically Mogul VS Touch Pro in the hardware aspect since nearly 80% of everything meant for the Touch Pro will NOT work on the Mogul ex: QVGA v VGA)
Ok guys, sorry to bother you, please excuse if I sound like a newb on here.
I just bought a Touch Pro (Raphael) from Verizon, and the verizon ROM blows, honestly, so I am thinking about flashin to a better rom, and I'm considering going to 6.5, so I have 3 questions and if someone could please help me I would appreciate it.
#1 Is windows mobile 6.5 worth using? Does is Have TOuchFlo 3D or Manila 3D? And are there even ANY 6.5 ROMS that work with Verizon Raphael?
#2 I've read that SSK is the best 6.1 Rom out, and I would like to try it, but I cannot seem to find a link to it. If someone could post a link I would appreciate it.
#3 This may seem like a dumb question, but is there a way I can backup the ROM from my phone, so I can do a flashback for warranty, etc?
Thanks guys, and keep up the good work!
6.5 is not even "out" yet, its only in beta phases. If you want to be smart, wait until its actually supported by microsoft when it releases this summer,
Honestly I dont think I want to flash my Verizon HTC. I love gadgeting it, but I dont want to risk irreplaceable damage, hence why I make record of my registry edits, etc.
I loaded JD CDMA 6.5 in to my Verizon Touch Pro a few weeks ago. It's pretty damn fast but that was compared to stock rom. Perhaps the 6.1 JD would be much faster as well. It does seem to work and I really like the new user interface. JD's is for Sprint but yet it work ok on Verizon. There are bugs so I would also advise that if you don't want to deal with bugs then wait and go with 6.1 for now (such as 5-10 soft resets before it will actually come up without locking on boot up). I can't give any advice on 6.1.
At the end of the day, I am a Newb as well so this for what it's worth. There are far more knowledgable people out there.
I'm a fan of MitghyROM (currently 4.16) over at PPCGeeks.com.
Its a solid ROM, although you need to downsize the PagePool for the VZW ROM (I hate having to do that).
XBMod is working on TF3D 2 for the 6.5 ROMs, but its also beta. Beta + beta = not such a fun time usually.
They actually have the stock ROMs available at PPCGeeks, so no back up necessary.
Go here...
I cooked a WinMo 6.5 rom, build/version 21202, using SSK (Scott's Simple Kitchen) 1.7, and it worked very nicely on my Verizon Pro. I didn't encounter any bugs, but didn't use it that extensively either. Performance was good, but not as good as the tweaked 6.1 roms I've cooked with the same kitchen. I've been running a rom I cooked in that kitchen, build 20954 with a tweaked XIP by FormerPalmOS, and it is faster than any of the over half a dozen roms I've tried, and boot with about 75 MB of ram free.
i'm haveing a real hard time chooseing what rom to use with my advantage. The main role of my advantage is 1 Phone,
2 Media Player (Online steaming and Off), 3 internet in that order. i've looked through the forums and got the idea of how to flash a new rom but with such a wide selection i'm pretty confused on the differnces between them and i need a hand on choseing. thanks
WoW!!! Thanks for the help i guess.
I saw your first post and after that I got my Athena. I now see your second post and i own the Athen for about two weeks.
All I can tell you is this:
1) You will have to try the ROM's yourself, because everyone has special needs and likes one ROM more than the other.
2) I have so far only tried the original shipped WM5 ROM and MiCHy's R6.1 ROM. I changed the WM5 mainly for one main reason: it was in German.
The ROM I have now works almost at my satisfaction and I already spent much time configuring it to my taste and installing lots of software. I would not want for the next months to install a different ROM, unless there is a good reason (aka, a new functionality).
3) The alternative to MiCHy's R6.1 ROM's are AP4 and newer R6.5 ROM's.
I did not try the AP4, because I did not feel good enough informed to do the SPL upgrade and the WIFI rebuild on my new device. Now I think I understood all steps, however as I mentioned above, it is too much hazzle considering the current ROM works to my satisfaction.
Because I have other HTC devices, I already tried R6.5 ROM's on them. It looks good, but slows the device down (in my opinion). Also, I dont like touch-based menus, because verything gets too big on the screen.
Conclusion:
I recommend a simple R6.1 ROM or, better, the AP4. From what I read so far this seems to be the most popular ROM's.
Recomendation:
I spent days reading all relevant posts on this forum (started prior of receiving my Athena). I asked the questions which were not clear to me, I did my homework. And so should you!
Cheers,
vma
I've been reading through a couple of threads on this board concerning upgrading my XV6800 to WM6.5 and I have what may possibly be some stupid questions.
First - I'm the happy owner of two XV6800's so I was planning on using the not-currently-activated one as my guinea pig in case I brick the phone. I've downloaded what appear to be the most current upgrade files from theUnlockr.com and some instructions from that site. What I need to know is is theUnlockr a reliable site? Are these the most current files available? I'm currently upgraded to the 3.57.605.2 ROM and the 3.37.78 radio and I am looking to upgrade the HardSPL (which is what, exactly?), the radio (to 3.42.50 - which, if I am not mistaken, someone mentioned was eating battery life?) and the ROM using the version Unlockr has up as their latest favorite (RMverizonTitanWM65V2[1].1Heavy). I am pretty sure I can follow the directions that were given, but I'm hoping someone here can advise me if I should.
With all these updates running around everyone's 'kitchens' - it's hard for a relative noob like me to know which is the best update for her. I don't really need GPS - though I may load Garmin XT on my phone at some point - but I would like to have an efficient, elegant ROM on my phone that will not hog all my memory and will still give me at least all my current functionality (though hopefully more). Should I even be looking to update to WM6.5? Which update version do you folks think is the best for the Titan/Mogul/XV6800?
Thank you in advance for your patience and for the AMAZINGLY generous soul who has spent the time to generate these files! I went to the Verizon site and they don't seem to even remember what the 6800 looks like! And HTC doesn't have much either. I was amazed to find these sites. You guys are a godsend!
Ariel
Follow below just use whatever rom you want. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=33857
Thank you for the thread link. I've upgraded roms before, but it never hurts to have detailed directions like that. Good deal. However, what I was looking for was advice on whether or not the 6800 performs better under the available roms or if, in the experienced opinion of the developers on this site, it was better left as Microsoft intended? Does the fact that it only comes with 64 MB of RAM hurt it when loading WM6.5? Most of the new devices coming out with 6.5 have more than that and I wondered if I could get some advice before I jumped in. That's all.

The Titan is a very durable device. In my experience you can flash it at least a hundred times..
So my advice is to try as many ROMs as you like. 6.1, 6.5, Light, Heavy, Naked, Stock. Whatever it doesnt matter. Just keep going until you find what floats your boat.
LOL! Well, I doubt I'll be doing it a hundred times, but I figured I'd try and save myself some mistakes by asking the experts who have.
BTW, I think you were the one who came up with the ROM I've loaded (2.1 heavy) - very nice so far! I'm still getting a feel for it and I haven't tried to load any of my own software on it yet, but so far it's very slick. Thanks!

No problem sir. Glad I could be of assistance. My main computer is broke at the moment and I awaiting a new power supply now, currently using my spare computer (I dont have a spare 1000watt power supply to run my main pc for the banterers lol). Or else I would have my ROMs updated. More for you to mess around with. But the ones I have uploaded now should work out fine. I noticed in the nuetools folder though the leds shortcut is a folder. I fixed that though just have to re-cook and re-upload. Among other changes.
If I were to upgrade to the fix you describe, I'd only have to do the ROM again, right? The hardSPL and radio would be fine? See? I told you, stupid questions...
you are correct only the rom
As the title says---any of you working on the 6.5 that has appeared here? I'm running the "clean" 6.5 posted, but I miss Pampooh's Neo-themed 6.1.....What say you all??
This is my understanding of the situation, as far as I know. Erofich hasn't committed to a 6.5 project. Pampooh says he doesn't have the time, at the moment.
That takes care of the regulars, I think.
You can try one of the posted 6.5 ROMs. I flashed one yesterday, thought "this looks cool/promising" and an hour later was running Pampooh's 1.05b again.
"clean" ROM
Yes--I'm running the "clean" 6.5 posted--but I miss Pampooh's Neo---very nice look & the feature-set that works for me---I might look into cooking one--never done it & it looks interesting......
I don't have the device too. Both of my StarTrek's have gone to their rest.
Sorry to hear that!!!
May your 'treks RIP!!! I still like your themes....could you point me towards a tutorial/info to cook a ROM?
Ive tried the 6.5 roms - but my phone has finally killed its battery cover and I cant find a new one for love nor money - so its sort of academic.
Can say from experience though that the 6.5.3 (or equivalent) on the startrk is pretty good - even if the version I have is half in chinese.
I've seen them on eBay---
So you might take a look there---I have a HTC listing-watch going. Thinking of buying a Elf--should be "fairly" easy to run Android on it........
As for the Chinese bit---have you had any luck finding a "cure" for the non-english parts?

I've looked and their without exception black and mostly second hand and scratched all to hell most like - Its the one girlie phone I have ever bought - but then for £50 it was a steal at the time... I'd prefer to get a pink one if I can but dont really wanna spend alot of money on an entire phone :S
only way to cure the chinese language bits is to get a full wwe rom cooked, I dont know how to do that and im not really all that bothered since I am pretty much exclusively using the WG3 as my phone and Diamond 6.5.3 as a sorta baby internet tablet.
