8 gig microSD HC support, where ??? - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Hiya,
I have seen posts where people say they have the 8 gig working, so I got one from Sandisk. It came formatted as FAT32 and is seen as 8 gig in my laptop but 3.6 in my HTC. Anyone got the skinny on this ??? I searched but did not find , thanks.

Have you updated your rom? I had the same problem on the stock rom from Sprint. Now with 6.1 and the leaked rom It works perfect.

my 6gig card worked fine with the stock 2.17 ROM.

Figured that was it, thanks;-)
Thanks guys, I was waiting for a rollback path for the VZW to come out before doing it and figured that it was in the ROM but hoped not. I guess I will take the plunge ;-))))))

theres also a cab floating around to add support (its a driver issue) to older roms

Little help please..

Ive just bought a Vario 2 from ebay at a steal and bought a minisd card 4gb for it.
Ive just realised the card is SDHC so i cant use it unless i upgrade to a new WM6 rom right? I just wanted to know a few things before i upgrade it though..
1.Which is probably the best rom avaliable in peoples opinion for the job? (i know every1 has a favourite but just generally)
And 2. Will most applications ive downloaded be compatible with WM6 or are there only a few that work on it like vista for pc's?
I know how to upgrade them and everything and ive done all my reasearch, i dont mind losing my data but is it worth it?
thanks in advance
Correct, this rom supports sdhc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359458
Its also one of the best in my opinion, other people like others, depends what you will be using it for mostly.
Most apps will still work in wm6. Theres lots on this site, if you want something just search, quite often the cooks will release specific things they have in there rom separately in a cab file so you can install it on any rom. So if you see a rom with 1 feature you like, you dont have to switch necessarily.
Changing is worth it
Just make sure you use Hard SPL before flashing, and if you want to when your a little more confident... try building your own rom in the rom kitchen.

Some Questions from a new Sprint Hero Owner

I've been looking through the posts and some are sort of old. So i'm posting this just to make sure I have all the current and correct information.
I'm coming over from a T-Mobile HTC Dream that I flashed to Cyanogen.
I want to flash my Sprint Hero to the Modaco Custom ROM primarily so I can wifi tether but also because I suspect that the Modaco ROM probably performs better.
anyway here are my questions:
Can I use Cyanogen's 1.4 Recovery Image to gain root access? If not, which should I use?
What version of the ModaCo ROM do I want to use? Is the most recent also the most stable?
Do I need to flash on a new Radio? If so, which one?
That's it. Like I said I did read through a bunch of posts first but since most of the ones I found with good information were from 6 months ago, I just wanted to make sure I had all the current information before going forward.

You may want to mention that it's a Sprint Hero in the title of your post. I was hoping to help you out, but like the majority of people here, I have the Telus/European model, so I don't think I'm qualified to answer your questions.

Instead of the Cyanogen Recovery image, use this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581521
We don't have a new kernel so MoDaCo's ROM is just some tweaks to the stock OS until a working kernel is built and optimized. (Also wifitethering is working on the stock ROM for me, just gotta use the pre-release version since they only recently figured out what was blocking it).
You can find the CDMA MoDaCo here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581846
There's no new radio firmware so you shouldn't need to flash the radio.
It can be tough sorting between GSM and CDMA information but hopefully this will start you in the right direction.
Thanks thecodemonk, that information helps alot. So based on your information it probably doesn't make any sense for me to flash to Modaco right now. How do I get my hands on the pre-release version so that I can tether?
Thanks

Sure thing DaveKid.
I'm running stock myself but it's really more of a preference thing. If you like MoDaCo's stuff, I am sure he will continue to improve it (once he gets back from his trip). I'm more waiting it out and I like tweaking things myself so I'm implementing some things he's done and doing other things differently. If you like MoDaCo, go for it!
Here's the link to the issue thread where I got the pre-release issue (as well as pros/cons of using it from other people...it's worth a read!)

Direct link to the apk file: http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com/files/wireless_tether_1_61-pre1_htc.apk
It's working well for me but some others are reporting an issue with wireless from it. I'm sure in time, they will have a more elegant official release for us.
one more quick question....
do I still want to format my MicroSD card into 3 partitions: fat32, Ext3, Linux-Swap?

The point of partitioning is to use Apps2SD (Ext2/3/4 partition) and to use your sdcard as a swap drive (Linux-Swap).
The point of Apps2SD is to store all your apps on your SDCard (surprise!)...usually because you have *that* many apps that it doesn't fit on the internal storage area. The other reason people do this is because they want an easier way to backup what apps they have installed.
As for the swap issue, there are a couple camps in this arena...
Some believe that Android should be left to manage it's memory as it was designed to do and that putting in a swap partition messes with that (since SDCards are slower than internal memory). I fall into this camp.
Other's believe that it gives them more flexability and overcomes some of the limits...they like having more things in "running state".
Hopefully that will educate you to make your choices the way you want your device to be.

hd2 android jumping to kernel

ram 448mb
rom 512mb
using new radio originally on a 51 radio as using a uk hd2
no matter what combination it seems to show this after jumping to kernel
can anyone help?
tried chucky rom and latest standard rom but no luck
pulling my hair out
anyone?
my startup.txt seems to be worth a try what should it contain?
thanks anyway
eventually worked by using the new official tmobile rom
this updated the rom and also the radio
now working fine
this is nice and easy for people if they dont want to tinker as it basically means
download tmobile rom
run that
copy android to sd
away you go
no messing with spl
just thought id post my solution as people have a habit of not doing this, which means their thread has no use.
thanks

[Q] Where can i find JB 4.1 stable ROM?

This morning when i woke up i had PA 4.1 on my fassy. Being the masochist that i am, i decided to try to update to 4.2 without reading all the documentation. After bricking my phone i found out that my Class4 SD card isnt recognized by the recovery.
Does anyone know of a place where i can find a stable 4.1 JB ROM? I love PA very much, but right now i am just trying to get my phone back into a working state until i can find a store that sells a class 6 micro sd. Any ROM version would be ok as long as it works. I have thought of using this opportunity to make my own build, but that endeavor caused too much confusion for me in the past so i gave it up.
Im a bit shocked to find that there isnt a sticky with all the past stable android versions listed. Or maybe i just couldnt find it, which would be understandable since my best friend (android) just died. Im freaking out.
I would suggest AOKP found here or find someone who has one of the last CM10 nightlies before they switched to CM10.1

[Q] Having troubles with cm10.1 and4.3 roms

Hello every one this is my first post but ive been on this forum for awhile im still sort of a noob but im figuring it out after soft bricking my EVO LTE ive sort of got the basics down. I started the venture trying to install the beanstalk rom finally got it working but could not get the sd card to mount for anything so I tried other roms and after noticing a trend I realized that every rom that was cm10.2 and android 4.3 would not mount the sd card so far that is my only problem but its a pretty big one for me. Anyway for awhile I was running the latest 4.2 version of Dirty Unicorn and it was working perfectly until I decided to try the 4.3 version of the rom again, after that fail because of the same problem with the sd card I tried to reflash to the DU 4.2 then the sd card wouldn't mount to that rom either so now im running a basic 10.1 cm rom...I would really LOVE to run 4.3 roms but cant get around the sd card problem is there anyone that can help. Ive heard that being S-OFF would do the trick but my phone is currently 3.17 and there is nothing supporting that right now so I feel like im stuck if some one could help I would greatly appreciate it
Have a good one and thanks for looking
If you want to S-OFF, and are currently S-ON with 3.17.651.4 software/firmware, please join the #moonshiners IRC channel ASAP. beaups has a test build he needs help to get working for the latest OTA. It would be helpful for everyone if someone could assist.
