I don't like having to wait for my keyboard backlight to power up whenever it's dark. And while it may not be 20 seconds, it's not what I would like it to be either. Is there any kind of registry tweak out there that'll either keep the light on all the time, or speed up it's activation? I've already got my screen's backlight turn down quite a bit, and a 15% stronger battery, so I'm not worried about battery life here. I just want a *very* quick phone.
Is this something I'd be better off waiting for the for new video CAB? I know it'll speed up the portrait-landscape switch, but would it in some way also help the keyboard backlights?
I'm not sure why it would be slow. My keypad lights up as soon as I tap a key even in hallways that are just dim.

have you ever used a kaiser? the backlight on the keyboard is on instantly when you slide it open. i know what youre talking about with the painful slow delay waiting for it to come on, but dont know any fix for it.
This worked for me
Reg key is \HKCU\COntrolPannel\Backlight
Set AutoSensor to 0
Set QKeyLedOnOff to 1
Set QKeyLedTimeout to 0

AutoSenor to 0 is the same as going into the System settings and unchecking the backlight option.
HKCU/ControlPanel/Backlight/QKeyLedTimeout
Is the amount of time (in seconds) the keep the light on... so someone could change it to 30 or 99 or whatever (I dont know if there is a "max value") and it would stay on for 30 or 99 seconds.
Not sure what LedOnOff does, thats probably the key to keep it on all the time (but does that mean it stays on even when the unit is closed?). Could potentially be very battery drainining.
Thanks for the info rajuabju BUT the end result is if you make the changes does it give you the results sovrce is after.
FYI with a lot of timeout values 0 means infinity
You're right... silly of me.
0 means there is no timeout value.

i saw a post about ringer delay for AT&T user and they just need to disable the dialer and the problem solve but what about us sprint users? Here is the original post about that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449417
i tried to disable the dialer on registry but still get 2-3 second delay before my Touch Pro actually ring.
Download and install DiamondTweaks. There is an option to disable the ringer delay. Works well.
convert your ringer to .wav file

The ringer delay that this changes is the pause between when the ringtone ends and it repeats. Not the delay from when the LED starts flashing (because a call arrived) till the phone actually starts ringing.
If you wish to turn off the HTC dialer and use the WM Dialer, simply goto the following registry entry,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Security/Phone/Skin]
"Enabled" = dword:1change the Enabled value from 1 to 0 which will disable the HTC dialer.
I vote for converting to WAV files as well.
If you would like to complain to Sprint about it, the following is the thread I started on Sprint's forum regarding this very subject.

Know anyway to get the light sensor to turn off the screen when on a call (Sprint) other than S2U2?

Depends on what you may have done (adding programs, etc..) to your phone. By default, our devices will turn the screen off to conserve battery while a call is in session. However, if you have added one of the S2A dialer GSM versions which was taken from the Touch HD, that feature was disabled because of the InCall curtain. The CDMA versions (my signature and others) were taken from the Sprint Diamond ROM that was released and still contains the necessary code to turn off the screen display while the call is in progress.
Smotrs...just HR'd and installing now. I haven't tried that one, and actually think I ended up with the GSM version I WAS using.
I'll let you know how it works.
Thanks...
Well, it still sits there while the screen "times" out. I thought the light sensor was supposed to dim the screen almost immediately. I'm on the call for 30-40 seconds before it dims, and then cuts off.
Is this a Sprint thing?

It should Dim after about 10 seconds (or whatever you have in the backlight Advanced setting under Battery). After about 40 seconds or so (same location) it should turn off the screen.
At least that's what mine does, just verified it again. Sounds like maybe your values are too high. After a HR they usually are by default.
Somehow it was at 30 (dim) and 1 min (off). That is a little high. Changed it to 10 / 40. We'll see what that does.
Thanks for the tip. I'll keep you posted.
Seems to now be working the way you explained!!! Thank you for the help!
Is there anything else out there, other than S2U2 that allow FULL SCREEN Caller ID pictures??? I don't want to reinstall that because the dialer is actually working right. I just miss full screen caller ID.
Thanks again.
That I don't know, sorry.
Eh...it's ok. I'd much rather have a dialer that works than a full screen picture of my ignorant brother.
you can also change the Slot Cycle Index in the epst settings... you'll need your MSL though
it's under "Modem Settings"
What is slot cycle and where are these settings? How do I find my MSL? I don't see "Modem Settings".
not trying to be an ass, but i suggest you do some searching. there is plenty of info on the subject

lol, no prob man...
Changed the SCI to 1. We'll see if that helps. There is always "0"!
I'm also seeing mixed reports/opinions on ACCOLC - Access Overload Class. Mine was defaulted at 8 on Sprint. People say leave it alone. People say set it lower. Others say set it higher.
i found that setting SCI to 1 is good enough, i'm able to catch my calls and haven't noticed decreased battery life from it so that's where mine stays.
noticed the wifi will disconnect after a short period when the screen turns off
i dont want my wifi to stay connected all the time but it would be handy if i could extend this timeout to maybe 5mins or something
anyone know if it can be done?
did you try bandswitch?
no, i prefer reg tweaks... installing apps just seems to make the phone unreliable
but i will try it anyway, thanks
you want
hklm - comm - bcmsddhd1 - parms -htckeepwifionwhenunattended
change the value to 1 and wifi wont disconnect.
I dont know if you can alter the timeout.....
the setting will need to be reapplied after a soft reset though.
touch tools will do it permanently.
hope that helps....
ooh, interesting...
have also found SuspendOffDelayInterval
will test and see if it changes anything
yes, seems to work for me, value in:
\HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms\SuspendOffDelayInterval
seems to be the delay in ms, so default 30,000 = 30 sec, i just added another zero to make it 300,000 or 5mins.
that's good to know.....
im quite happy with mine on all the time but im sure someone else will find that useful
does that change survive after a soft reset?
seems to yea
can someone please tell me how to disable auto brightness on
x10i eternity rom build 003
i tried using every brightness app/widget possible to turn it off but as soon as i turn it off and put the phone under different light setting i can see that the auto brightness is still on
i tried using adjbrightness but it keeps telling me that my phone isnt rooted; anyone get this app to work on x10??
please help n sorry if this questions been asked and answered before. this forum is getting too big and broad sometimes to find anything
thx in advance
Have you tried Sparepart? (That's the name)
Strange, i can't seem to turn on my autobrightness. It used to work perfectly in android 1.6. And i haven't noticed it untill recently. When auto brightness is checked, it just stays the same, even when i hold it directly under a lamp. Maby there is a bug in the software that prevents switching it on or off?
I'd also like an answer to this problem, because with auto brightness on the telephone is a battery eater.. you have to keep it to the minimum level to disable it, but when you are under a strong light, like outdoor with a sunny weather, it's difficult to see your screen's details. as you select a brightness level different from zero, the autobrightness turns on and eats the battery.
I hope I'm missing the solution to this, and somebody will help, because all the applications i've tried (spareparts included) didn't worked.
I'm quite confuse now.....
What actually do we need......
Turn it on...
or
Turn it off...
LOL
heh, so some people want a way to turn it off and others, like me, want to find a way to turn it on?
what a crazy phone..
I'm sure there used to be a tick box in the display settings to turn on/off the auto brightness. Anyway, i've tried various applications myself to get it on but nothing does it. I think the best solution is for us all to swap phones .
Spare Parts doesn't work for me, i tried enabling it, restarting the phone and jumping under my duvet.. but it didn't change
Did you update to 2.1? It was disabled in 2.1 as far as I know.
So the easiest solution, upgrade to 2.1! Else, I don't remember the menu but it's somewhere in the settings under 1.6.
I think we've all updated to 2.1 here =)
and yes, in 1.6 there was a box to tick to unable/disable autobrightness.
But, in 2.1, this feature has disappeared, leaving a seekbar and a damned widget which doesn't allow you to set or no autobrightness.
Hi,
The autobrightness is still there. It can be turned on/of from a stock SE connection widget. The different state for brightness is "minimum" -> "auto" -> "maximum"

I can get, either 0%, or 100% brightness, with the ambient sensor disabled. Anything in-between, fades constantly.
No fix for this, i presume?
Reading websites while the screen fades in/out every couple of seconds drives me mad.
Ive never had any problem with it as long as you dont lean in front of it all the time lol.

Hello All,
Is there an app that can dim the screen of my Archos 101, and return the screen to predefined brightness with the touch of the screen?
My device is mounted on a wall and the power button is hard to get too, so having a screen dimmer that can return the screen to normal use seems like the way to go.
Or what about the screen never going to sleep, but have it do an auto dim down after a set amount of time and with the touch of the screen it returns to normal usage?
At this point I would settle for work around.
T.I.A.
u may try the app "tasker" wich has a function for brightness level...
so u can at set an idle time to turn it down,.. and hopefully also one to "unidle" or screen tap. Sadly im not sure about that exactly as i dont use takser frequently... just try it out
I also remeber an app wich was able to set a little overlay area to the screen on wich u could slide to turn up/down brightness - so u can slide down to turn it off - and up to turn it on (or left/right,...).
Will search if i can find its name... cant remember atm.
Both methods would require to disable auto turn off on idle function...
As u can WAKE UP the device with the screen while it's in sleep.
Hello FrEcP!
Thanks for the reply.
Will look at Tasker now, seems to be many options so I will need to sit down and have tea to figure this out
Screen Filter
Allows you to even set the level to dim screen to. Simple tap on it to dim, and another tap to make it normal.
Hello diablo009,
Thanks, that may be what I need!
I bought Tasker cause it is important to support our developer
Tasker did make and is still causing my brain to tingle!
Will give Screen Filter a try too.

Screen filter is more like a manual one. You got to click on it to enable or disable it.
O.K. so I tried Screen filter and it is a 50/50 solution. Yes it does dim the screen but it is manual whereas I ned something more automatic.
As for Tasker, I have drunk two pots of tea, and energy drink, and gone through two days and still this powerful app is a bit of a challenge to setup.
Anyone with experience setting up Tasker?
OBJECTIVE:
1. After 10 minutes of idle have display dimm to 50% brightness, and never shut-off.
2. With the tap of the screen have display return to 100% brightness.
In exchange for help I would be willing to baking you homemade cupcakes!

yes another problem with screen filter is - it just sets an over lay in gey color - wich means actualy your screen still is at fully brightness (wich is annoying at night /u still got an ugly high glow of the backlight + doesn't save power [k is minor for a wallmount - but still should be considered] )
Well if you would have told that (objectives) more early - your solution would have been more easy
I thought u wanted to completely turn off the screen while being idle....
Anyway:
Settings->Display->Display Timeout->10min
Settings->Display->Brightness->full
Settings->Applications->Development->Always stay on/Stay active...->true
Does exactly what u want - after the timeout (10min) the screen dims (to about 50% or lower) - sadly i can't tell how to affect this value (but it seems its the lowest value the default brightness controll, let u set)
On touch - u got the full brightness... till timeout is reached again.
Device wont ever go to sleep.
Hello FrEcP,
Your instructions worked!
50% auto dim is more on target than before, and I return to baking
Apologies for not being more clear in the beginning.
This is from the Taker Forum:
"Unfortunately you can't do this, Android doesn't provide APIs for apps
to test idle time or respond to screen taps (unless it's in their own
UI)."
Thank you again FrEcP, and diablo009!
You help to make this forum rock solid with your sharing.
workaround with screen filter works fine
I use Screen Standby on my Xoom tablet for this exact same feature. It allows you to set at what time the tablet automatically dims. I have it set for 5 minutes. And then I just tap the screen with my finger and it wakes up. It is also nice to note that tapping the screen does not push any buttons but rather just wakes the device.

Lo
Hi,
Since a couple of days I've noticed that my screen flickers sometimes.
Mostly when I'm moving my hand while holding the phone...
Is it possible that the light sensor auto adjusts my screen brightness ?
If so, how can I turn it off ?
Thanks in advance,
Niels
If you have rooted the phone, you can install Disable Auto Brightness for Xperia phones. or you can disable it manually editing the file /ect/hw_config.sh.
Search the forum for the tutorial
Thanks for your answer !
So unless you start rooting or changing files there's no way to stop the flickering ?
Unfortunately, no. By the way, this problem usually affects st15 models... as far as i know, you've been unlucky
Okay, I'm sure now that it's really because of the lightsensor and not just a problem with my screen.
I was standing near a window and when I put my finger on the lightsensor a few times the brightness was clearly automaticly adjusted...
I'll look for the tutorial, thanks for the info !
Other solutions, if any, are still welcome though

Hey, my ST15i does also automatically adjust the brightness....it's not a problem mate When i am outdoors the screen get brighter but when i am indoors my screen automatically gets darken
Yes I now, but I find it annoying, it gets flickery sometimes..
I want the screen to stay on the brightness I've set.
today I was wondering why this phone doesnt have auto brightness adjustment feature, because I have to manually turn brightness to zero when using phone while on bed at night. I looked into settings and no such feature found, I wonder the light sensor actually works
Yes it does, I've tested it.
Try standing near a window or holding it near a lamp and put your finger on the sensor... (The screenbrightness may not be set to 0 if you try this..)
I too find it strange that there's no possibility to set the auto adjust on/off..
Niels
I don't think there is any auto-brightness option in LWW as I've not found any. if there were any then they would have provided an check box option turn it on/off. but the brightness ups and downs happens to me to specially when i've put the brightneww to lowest level at night. could not explain myself.
yup it works (just checked thru window operation )

The fact that you can't turn it on/off doesn't mean it doesn't work. Actually, the auto-brightness is always on. You can disable it manually editing /etc/hw_config.sh or using the app Disable Auto Brightness Xperia. You need root anyway.
