Is there a way I can unlock my hermes whilst keeping the newest radio (1.54.00.10)?
Yes, load hard spl ver.7 on then pick a rom, any rom that doesnt upgrade the radio rom. Most cooked roms don't have the radio cooked in. Happy upgrading.

VERY incorrect reply.
@ TheOracle
The radio version used in pofs unlocker has been modified to allow CID/SIM unlocking so you must use the package provided in the thread there.
I can't seem to find the thread, I'll keep looking though I'm probably being stupid! Thanks for the help =D
Well I've just unlocked the phone again with CID-Unlock V3a, however it's stuck me with Radio 1.16 . Could I still use Herm_Unlock_v3 etc with the newest radio or will it brick if I don't use Radio 1.16?
Here are the steps needed
1 Download and unzip the unlocker. All of the instructions are included on the zip file. Follow it closely. Read the thread for instructions and common mistakes before you do it. The program will install radio 1.16 which you'll replace with step number 3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
2. Install hardspl. Use this guide by mrvanx. Very straightforward. Use a computer with xp, avoid vista.
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=30&Itemid=27
3. Download your radio rom here and install.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
Go back to mrvanx guide on installing radios. Read all the threads and understand what is needed for each step to safely upgrade your device. If you're not sure, it's better to ask again on this thread. I hope this helps and good luck
Also, I think you can ask where you bought the phone to get an unlock code? I know at&t will do it with conditions.

I always unlock using the manual method, so for the last step I transfer HERM_Unlock_v3.exe to my device and run it. Click the unlock button, then select sim and super cid unlock.
Follow the steps I've provided, you should be fine
For future reference, here's mrvanx's hermes guide.

If you decide to upgrade your rom as well, the guide will be a great help.
I'm a total newbie to Windows Mobile. Trying to app/registry unlock my phone, I downloaded regedit.exe and the regeditSTG2.exe to my pc. I've tried dragging them to the Qtek 8500. The regedit.exe is on the phone, the STG2.exe doesn't even appear. Trying to run the regedit.exe from the phone results in nothing - leftclicking just shows up a "General" properties tab, with file type, Location \ (must be root, right?) , file size etc. Right clicking offers cut, copy, shortcut, delete and rename.
1. So how do I run it?
2. The regeditSTG2 is so called "digitally signed." What does this mean, and what benefits does it bring?
3. Why wont the regeditSTG2 allow itself to be dragged onto the "mobile device?"
Thank you
There is a regeditSTG2 in cab-file, just copy to your device and launch. You can run it from Start Menu
Thank you Erofich!
I want to flash your 6.1 ROM according as per instructions:
1) make an application unlock
2) copy content of SSPL to the root of your device
3) run SPL.lnk
4) run ROM Update Utility.exe on your PC
5) follow the instructions
6) wait until flash process will be completed
My current ROM is 1.02.252.1. I want to have the safest possible flash possible. The application unlock contains two pieces, one the regeditSTG procedure, and two, the SDApplication unlock tool.
Q1. If I understand correctly that is step one above, right?
However, I've seen some comments about the RadioQuote:

where you answered that
Just flash latest cingular rom first, and flash wm6.1 over it
Q2. a )If I flash the latest cingular rom first, wouldn't I then still need to CID unlock the device, or is there a way to use the SSPL for that process? b) If I don't flash the cingular rom first, what will happen to the radio?
Q3. Someone, I believe it was Raskell, posted a back up procedure in case of bricking which entailed extracting and *.nbh file from the official RUU installer. a) Where do I find the official RUU installer? b) If I do not follow this back up procedure, can I still do it if I fail - that is can I do it even if the 8500 would be non-functional?
Thanks

No, application unlock contains only one piece regeditSTG procedure for any Qtek or i-mate ROMS. And SDA Applcation Unlock for Cingular ROM

You can flash via SoftSPL, BUT it will be safer if you will make a SuperCID procedure (but pay attention to all the steps, otherwise you can crash your radio and it cant be recovered)

I don't know. But this sequence (any ROM->Cingular 4.1.502.5 official rom->any custom rom) already tested many-many times.

How-to text guide, written by Myself
The Wizard Service Tool, by mestrini
The ActiveSync Setup.exe, for people that dont have it already
and SoftSPL, by the exuinoxe
PLEASE NOTE!!!-I did NOT include any ROM files with this package, YOU MUST supply the ROM of your choice yourself(this is stated in the guide aswell.).
Yes, it IS a SoftSPL guide, seeing as NO n00b understand how to make the HARDSPL method work. It is(imho) well written, and all of the screen shots are marked with arrows and such as to what to do next...so please, everyone download it and make improvements, criticize whatver. And please note!!

Hey guys,
I was wondering where can we find WM6.1 rom??? Also, would it work on an HTC wizard G4? Are there extra steps involved?
By the way, I'm running TNT 1.9199 Rom... If I upgradew to WM6.1, will it wipe out this rom too?
Thanx,

Upgrade to TNT 19213 series, its wm6.1. Yes ! flashing a new rom will completely wipe out and replace the existing rom and files, its just like formatting the Hard drive of pc while installing a new OS.
can u give me a rom pls i only have my spv m3100 for one day and the guide is very easy to follow but i don't know what rom to use please help
I start Wizard Service Tool an click on [Enable Rapi. and Unsigned Apps].
After this it comes about 20 seconds later that all is ok an i can do the following steps. When i go to Device Info i get this:
On Wizard Service Tool i have got this Message:
Warning!
A device was detected but one (or both) of RAPI
Communications and Applications Policy isn't
enabled.
Use first button for that purpose and try again
Can anybody tell me why?
I have try softreset an do all steps again. Not better.
Engersen
are you using a G3 of G4 device? Again I say, THIS GUIDE IS ONLY FOR G4 WIZARDS!
I have got a G4.
My Wizard show on start IPL 2.21.0001 and SPL 2.21.0001.
Any ideas for my Problem?
Thx Engersen
hmmm, I would just go ahead and skip that step then, and start after it, with the SoftSPL and such. Just read and you should be fine.
Really? Without Wizard Service Tool?
I can try it. I hope all works great after this.
WST is not interest because SoftSPL do the temporary CID Unlock. Right?

Sometimes, 'EnableRapi' and 'Cert_SPCS' doesn't get executed automatically by WST Tool,so its recommended to manually copy and paste these two files in the phone and execute them, you'll find these files in the installation folder of the Wizard Service Tool folder in the 'Files' folder in the Program Files on C:\ drive. But WST Tool doesn't CID unlock a G4 device,so if you want to upgrade, then read and follow the methods 'SoftSPL or HardSPL posted as stickies in the this G4 forum.
Yes i know that WST is not unlock CID.
I use the package from first Post. There is SoftSPL inside to unlock. Right?
Ok, i think i have following steps to do.
Copy both files 'EnableRapi' and 'Cert_SPCS' to Wizard and execute them.
Then Unlock CID with SoftSPL and follow all other steps from Userguide of Package from the first page. Right?
Thx for help and greetz from Germany
It ist possible downgrade back to WM5 if WM6 is not my like?
Engersen
of course, though you will need to follow one of the downgrading guides here on the forums, as I do not know the exact steps.
Ok, thank you for help. In German all was easy for me. Now i want to ask for everything
Downgrading to official wm5 depends on the method with which you upgraded. If you upgraded through SoftSPL,there's no further procedure, just flash the official rom,coz SoftSPL doesn't change the official original IPL/SPL,but if you upgraded through HardSPL,than you'll first have to remove HardSPK revert back to original IPL/SPL and then flash the official rom,as HardSPL flashes the patched IPL/SPL and its changed.
I have used the newest Athena SPL Downgrader of Cmonex posted today, but after to have run the tool, my device doesn't boot anymore. Before to apply the downgrade tool, I had Italian WM6.1 ROM, (SPL3.5) and wanted to change for the same excellent rom but SPL1.20 to have more free memory. The downgrade has completed correctly, the device has first rebboted, configured the device, but hard reset for a 2nd time and then don't reboot more. I try to hard rest but it now don't want to boot.. I can acceed to bootloader it indicate SPL1.2. What can be happen? Some thing I can do? Only assistance? Any help would be appreciated very much. Excuse my bad english, I hope to have been clear enough... Thx

Sorry to hear your troubles but it would be best to post this in the thread where you found the tool.
My understanding is you need to flash an SPL 1 rom after finishing the downgrade.

STEP BY STEP:
1. make sure Athena is running WM and synced with Activesync. do not try entering bootloader mode manually!
2. extract the downloaded zip from Attachment to this post, you'll find an SPLDowngrader.EXE inside. run that EXE on your PC, now Athena should go to tricolour screen saying OliNex SSPL.
3. let the RUU flash.
4. it will reboot and also will hard reset your device. you will need to flash an OS compatible with old SPL now. job done.
5. +1: you should verify the modelid and SPL version is correct (ATHE100 and 1.20.Olipro). see "extra help" below on how to enter bootloader mode to check.

Extra help: steps to help with flashing an OS if someone never flashed from bootloader before:
0. do not freak out if the OS isn't booting after downgrade. depends on what OS was on it before. maybe you will only get black screen but do not worry, read further:
1. you should manually enter SPL, by holding camera key (ALL THE WAY IN!!) while resetting. hold it until tricolour screen appears.
2. then use some other RUU / ROM package to flash an OS compatible with old SPL. job done.
Thank you very very much! It is ok now

Good work gendong!
PPL, you should read and the follow the steps. The information posted here was posted on the original thread.
Due to display flickering issue which is worse and worse from day to day. I decided to restore stock rom for my T-Mobile MDA Vario IV to make a complain.
My device is Security Unlocked, with different Radio and ROM so i would like to know if my steps for reverting is ok. I do not want to make my device bricked!!
I have EXE file with ROM from T-Mobile www which includes all like SPL, RADIO, ROM etc.
So my conclusion what i have read is that i have to:
1) restore stock Radio
2) remove security lock
3) remove Hard-SPL
4) flash stock ROM from EXE file i have already downloaded. It will overwrite 1.90 SPL to 1.69 which was my default and overwrite ROM too.
Can anyone experienced with this stuff tell me if i am right? thank a lot.
With the steps you have listed you will be good to go. Just follow your steps and you are good.

I am not a noob i have read this many times, so i know what is the "official" routine. But this (official) routine was, i think made, for people who had no choice (as me with original exe) and they had to dump their ROM first, and than reconstruct part by part. And because the dumped ROM will never be CID safe, they had this tutorial 1. Radio, 2. OS, 3. SPL and it rally does make sense for me.
But i am lucky, because my operator (T-Mobile) shipped the device with EXE, which contains all the stuff (Radio, SPL, OS, RUU) and it is directly for my CID. So that is why i think my tutorial in the first post will work. And i think it should work though if i only remove Security unlock and Hard-SPL. Because it will overwrite all partitions in device even restored Radio, OS etc.
So am i right ?
your right and to save you step dont worry bout radio removal since its in the stock rom pack like u said just load the 1.90 for warrenty in the hard spl thread and relock your phone as an extra precation(some carriers care some dont) the run the exe and ure golden
ps. PimBackup is your friend (just in case u forgot)

Dear not a noob,
You asked a question, and you were given the "official" routine. If you knew the "official" routine, and you were going to do it your way anyway, it kinda makes your question unnecessary. I remind you that you are not the only person who reads these forums. In fact more than a hundred have read this thread. Some of these people "noobs" or not may want to know the "official" routine.
I personally don't care what you do or where you put your phone. But if anyone reading this thread follows the official routine they will not have any problems.
I understand why people don't like answering questions in these forums. No good deed etc etc......

Dear Ray,
you did not understand my question. That is all that i can say about it. I know about official routine to restoring stock defaults, but i was asking if my routine could lead me to same result. Because as from what i have learned in this forum this routine should lead me to the same result more easier way because i have RUU with stock ROM direct for my CID.
Your way i have to first extract nbh image from exe. Second i have to extract each nb from nbh. Third i have to make nbh from each nb, radio is not necessary, because it is already here. And for fourth my SPL is 1.69.0000 which is different from SPL contained in the Hard-SPL removing pack and it does not work for me just to replace the SPLs. And until now i did not find out why. Someone few months ago told me that i can use the SPL from Hard-SPL removing pack (1.90.0000 i think) and then overwrite it with my stock ROM package, which will restore my stock SPL and Radio, OS again as well. So official routine works for those who had to dump their ROM to backup their stock ROM, those who were not as lucky as me to have stock ROM with RUU for their CID. This procedure, i personaly think is OK, is not covered here on the forum, and that is why i was aking for blessing from someone more involved in this problmes...is it ok now?
PS: anything i can flash after removing Security Lock and Hard-SPL is my stock ROM and that is what i have. So it should work if there are not some any other things which i have missed somewhere!
Tom
bah dont worry bout them crackheads say i can speak from experience that your way work since thats exactly what i did last week only att exe pack and it did overite the 1.90 stock spl, changed to 1.95 in my case, like u say along with the radio and os. only diferance is i never security unlocked my phone sincei was happy with the raphel radios . now im happy with my new(well refurblished ) fuze.
p.s. i had defective screen too incase you were wondering
Everybody play nice
Ok, that being said, since you have the "official" exe from your Carrier, all you really have to do is:
Run the .exe from your Carrier - this will replace the stock Radio, ROM, and boot splash.
Install the warranty stock SPL 1.90 from the Hard-SPL thread (using the Hard-SPL RUU, of course).
Re-run the .exe from your Carrier, which will overwrite the 1.90 SPL with the stock version.
Other methods will likely work too, but IMHO, that's the easiest .

Positive. That's actually how I used to "flash to stock" in between custom ROM flashes.
