I have Garmin Mobile XT installed that I have used with the Garmin GPS10 bluetooth receiver.
Is there a way to make Mobile XT use the internal GPS? When I start it, it scans bluetooth for gps device. I don't see any other options.
Garmin Beta
I think if you search Garmin's website there is a beta version which uses internal gps in the new test rom
Even if that is true the maps are still locked to your GPS10's serial number. You will need to use GPSGate to emulate the Garmin GPS protocol and cloak your GPS10's serial number. I am looking for a version of Mobile XT which will use the internal GPS as well. I'd love to ditch my GPS10 and go all internal. I like Mobile XT a lot and since I paid for Garmin maps I want to use them!
I am using Garmin with the internal GPS, I cant really point you in the right direction because this sort of "talk" is prohibited here but it can be done quite easily.
Post on getting Garmin XT to work with the Internal GPS is in my FAQ:

OK ummm... WOW!!!
All I can say is that Garmin Mobile XT is awesome! After a little hacking (not discussing here...Vancelot, PM me if you want info) I got the software unlocked to allow non-garmin GPS receivers. This software works with the intermediary driver so no launcher is necessary. It works like a charm! Now I don't feel so bad for buying the new maps nor the GPS10 receiver... even though I don't need it
I spotted a copy of Garmin 2009 recently and downloaded it. By chance can anyone here tell me their experiences with TomTom compared to Garmin?
I currently have TomTom6 on my vz6800 but was curious about this application now?
Thx

I started out with TomTom...very good app. A friend of mine had me give Garmin XT a try...another good app. I'm starting to prefer Garmin though. It "was" easier to use with the intermidiate driver when I had dcd 3.1.6 installed...since 3.56 and 3.2.0 all have gone to hell...works very sporadically.
The biggest difference to me is with Garmin I can select just a few states about 4 or 5 and load them on my storage card (115 megs) as opposed to TomTom with no way to select the states you want (that I know of) to my storage card (just about 1 gig worth).

Good info proxcee...yeah I am still on 3.16 I may pause here for a moment...
Between the two apps, how did the maps look or the map rendering as it navigated along? ...about the same. I like on the car version how it shows buildings but this might not be an option for the mobile version...???
One thing I was looking for that the TomTom does not do was to see if Garmin Mobile app announce street names for the next turn...???

How were you able to do this? I just have a giant 1GB .IMG file...
I have a 2GB SD and an 8GB on order, so it's not really a matter of space - I'm just thinking that a smaller map would yield better performance...

You won't find that on mobile GPS software (as far as I know). I haven't tested TomTom7 yet, but neither TomTom6 or Garmin Mobile XT supports text to speech street names.

OK...this is what I really wanted to know
Iguidance announces street names. Here's a demo: http://www.buygpsnow.com/iguidance-v4-gps-navigation-software-version-4-for-north-america-dvd-runs-on-pocket-pc-pc-and-umpc-864.aspx

This is a nice feather but before I jump ship how does it compare to tt6? Or Garmin is someone has compared,
I don't own Iguidance but I've used it on a friend's device, so my comments here are someone limited. I find the interface of TT6 and Iguidance to be equally good (neither struck me as having any particular weaknesses of note). The displays are good and menu navigation is intuitive and easy.
TomTom offers "plus" services like weather and traffice....Iguidance does not appear to.
Iguidance may require some tweaking with GPSGate to get it to work properly on the Mogul. This guide at ppcgeeks gives some insight:

There are tons of comparisons on the Internet. A quick glance this morning showed that it's a mixed bag as to what people prefer. I hope this is helpful.

i had both of these on my phone at the same time to compare, i kept the tomtom and kiboshed the garmin. with the tomtom the maps just worked, while with garmin i had to select maps by small sections from my desktop to have them work. I also prefered the tomtom menu system and found the poi's to be superior.
Garmin Mobile XT for WM6.1 pro
Hi,
I am new to Garmin, just installed Garmin Mobile XT v5.00.10w(cracked) in my HTC Touch 3G, i found that it tooks too long time for "Awaiting better GPS Accuracy" while i am driving on the road where the weather is actually good(clear sky). Sometimes can be 20-30mins long for "start navigation".
Can anybody advise me what's problem with my Garmin? Is this a setting problem? Or it doesn't cracked properly? It was cracked by the HTC shop's promoter where i bought it.
Besides, i tried to copy additional vehicles into "vehicles" folder, and when i launch Garmin, it becomes trial version, but it disappear after i deleted the newly copied vehicle files from the vehicles' folder.
Could you please kindly advise me?
Thank you in advance for your advise..
Vincent
Which navigation software is best for our MDA VARIO II ?
Tom Tom
Route 66?
Which versions ?
Can I download them somewhere ==> one that works...
I need an BENELUX version or even better: Europe
tomtom is the best - this site does not condone piracy / warez
so buy it. - it's worth it.
iGo plus?
what about iGo?
anyone using it on the hermes?
running smoothly?
curious,krz
Have igo miomap and works fine... Have had no problems with it.Tomtom 6 for preference though.... Cheers...
I am using IGO8 canada/usa and it is awesome! i love the 3d view and dem layers..very smooth.
i have used tomtom and it "was" good until igo8
bumbo
If you want to go the free route:
Smart2Go (routeplanning, location aware, allows for offline work, but does not provide instructions)
Google Maps (similar to Smart2Go regarding functionality, but no offline option)
Nav4all (provides spoken instructions, no offline option)
Similar projects worth checking out are AmazeGPS (beta for wm had been released, haven't tried it yet) and navigami.

Does Igo8 run smooth?
I used the old igo before but it stutters....when I get a phone call, the whole phone locks up.
With TomTom, I can still get phone calls no problem.
I used odessey 4.0, it was good! Maps maybe outdated a bit, but it worked fine where I am.
Tom Tom 6 works fine
Garmin Mobile XT works, but I only can install the Benelux
I love Garmin, so: does anyone has a suggestion how I can get all Europe on it?
Simple Answer
the one and only answer to the question for the best navigation software:
it's iGo 2008, with 3d navigation, super detailed buildings and an amazingly fast screen.
Maps are dated April 2008...
I tried IGO 2008.
Contrary to what other are saying...IGO 2008 is really not suitable for Hermes if you're planning to use the phone features of your phone.
IGO 2008, although runs properly by itself in hermes, if you get a call or whatever while running GPS, your device slows to a crawl. The software uses too much ram imo.
I prefer TomTom because it has a small footprint and does the job right without harming other features of the phone.
I do like the IGO 2008 graphics alot, it is by far the best. But not worth the trouble if you want to get calls or make calls while gps is running.

Google Navigator
I am thinking about getting the Qstarz BT-Q1300.
Anyone have experience with Google Navigator 4.0 with 3D street view on windows mobile?
I use tt6 and was looking for a backup and since iGuidance call the street names I picked this one...
Testing iGuidance on my vx6800 has been bad...first:
1. The GPS does not move properly or track as I drive. It just sits there then eventually it will move
2. Keep in mind #1...when I purposely miss a turn it takes it forever to recalculate. I can be a 1/4 or 1/2 mile down the road before the screen moves or do anything as in #1
This is iGuidance v4 and I am on rom 3.12 radio 3.39. Keep in mind that tt6 works like a charm fast, accurate as I drive, recalculates instantly...for iGuidance I do have the maps & app running on my sd card just like tt6..
so what gives with this app..?
I'm having the same problem. Subscribing to this thread for further feedback.
Sorry to here that...hoping others who use it have found a tweak fix...
Out of curiosity, do you use GPSGate and the instructions here:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showpost.php?p=248345&postcount=282
GPS Gate is, definately, the solution. I have been using it since the GPS was enabled in March with no problems. www.gpsgate.com

bassett & livejazz
I will read this but can you two give a layout on how you use this and how it works for you? This thread is on iGuidance so my initial assumption is the info you posted will help us with iGuidance and overcome it's lack of not tracking with the car....???
Pls advise...
thx
I've only played with Iguidance on a friend's Mogul (I'm a bit more tech savvy so I often help him out). All I can say is we were unable to get it to work properly for weeks....until we found the above information. Prior to GPSGate the maps would not load (hang) or routing would be extremely slow. Now it is snappy with no lags...no lost signal...etc.. The steps are rather clear in the above link.

I can't get that link to work. Can someone give me the low down on how to use GPSGate to fix this? I'd like to see if IGuidance can work for me. I've played with iGO a bit and while it looks really nice, it also just about locks up me device in terms of all the memory used. iGuiance uses a LOT less memory so I can actually use some other stuff with it.
As I understand it, GPSGate works as an intermediary driver between IGuidance and the Windows Mobile GPS driver, by emulating the output of the GPS onto another port (user selectable), which IGuidance reads without a problem (and updates in realtime, no lag). It fixed the problem for me. More info can be found in the GPS internal FAQ. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=363431
The Astro launcher & script written by TalynOne is very good for launching GPS Gate, Astro launcher and IGuidance all at the same time.
Just start GPSGate when you start Iguidance. Make sure your ports are setup correct and it will just work.
Good luck.
Have any of you tried iGo 8? It's fantastic, and by far the BEST interface of any of the GPS progs out there.

Yes, I have, and I do like the appearance far more than iGuidance. However, iGO chews up HUGE amounts of RAM. iGuidance runs much leaner, meaning I can have more going on without locking up my device.
I still have to completely test iGuidance, but it appears to do what I need it to do, a little less pretty, but I can live with that if it works better for me.
Ok, I'll chime in but not sure how much this will help...
I'm running the stock Verizon 6.1 ROM with Valhalla's MR1 GPS fix and Franson's GPS Gate. What I have to do is make sure that GPS is open under WM GPS (allowing me to use the built-in GPS chipset in conjuction with Valhalla's program). Once the GPS Icon is green (under 7 seconds) then I can launch IGuidance and everything works fine.
I noticed you mentioned that you are using 4.0 - the version I have is 4.0.2 which is supposed to fix some bugs that 4.0 had.
hi, i have had the verizon xv6800 now for over 2 weeks. i have flashed this about 30 times. trying to find the best rom to cook. what do you all think is the best rom to cook i the kitchen for this phone please.
thanks
If this helps..
I'm running DCD 3.2.0 Radio 3.42.02 on my Verizon XV6800
I have no issues.. Had it since the day it was released.. (maybe 3 weeks or so?) the biggest issue I'm aware of is HTC Xbutton has a problem.. But I don’t use that. I test GPS locks regularly, and regularly lock under 10 seconds. I have one location that I can’t seem to get a lock easily (at work).. but that’s it so far.
I would recommend reading through all the posts on DCD 3.2.2 and see what issues (if any) users are having. Most of the user issues are due to the user doing something wrong, and DCD or GC will generally jump in and confirm if it's a rom issue... so read all the posts.
The only reason I haven’t upgraded to 3.2.2 is that The list of changes from 3.2.0 were not compelling enough to re-install all my applications and settings.
Here is the software I run.. and All works great under 3.2.0 (and I will go out on a limb and say it will all work on 3.2.2 most likely)
Software I have installed that works fine.
Wisbar Advance 3.1.5 (clear reflections skin)
DCD QuickGPS
Skunkworks Flash video Bundle
HTC Streaming Media
Google Maps
Palringo
SPB Mobile Phone suite (newest?)
SPB Mobile Shell 2.x (Newest?)
Resco Keyboard Pro 5.x
Resco Explorer 2008 (with Reg and FTP add-in)
dinarsoft Memmaid (newest?)
CoreCodec Coreplayer (newest?)
Vito Funcontact
HandMark Yahtzee
iNav iguidance (this has issues.. but it's common in WM6.1.. and fixable I guess)
MS Reader
Arcsoft MMS 5.0.31.19
Skype
Zimmerman Pocket hosts.
how do i get the battery icon to show up in the taskbar like it did in wm 5.0 since installing 6.1 i have yet to get it to show up

Why?
I never used that one... Why would you say it is better?
ive lightly tried some newer roms, and never liked them as much as 3.0.4, to the point that i don't even bother testing anymore. GPS locks INSTANTLY every time, the phone runs smoothly (sometimes a little low on memory), everything works perfectly. i'm just so happy with how my phone is running that i dont have any desire to change. GPS is kinda my main priority, and i'm blown away by how well it works. so im set =) i was actually thinking today about picking up another 6800 just so i could test new roms, though.
Does anyone know what version or versions of garmin mobile xt/tomtom work on the hd2, and if so if garmin/tomtom still sells the map updates for the smartphone gps software? The reason i ask is i need a gps on my phone that can work without a dataplan.
I'm using Garmin with no problem.
Maps are updated and fairly current
I use garmin 5.00.20 and it's fine.
Maps are always updated and can work across the range - currently have the 2010 europe map, and used mapsource to make a smaller UK version.
Garmin Mobile XT Version 5.00.20wp works fine - i use it with Topo Cards and City Navigator NT 2010.10 and BlueChart v9.5
