Hi, I have a Wallaby which was originally from the United States. I live in England however. I downloaded the XDA Developers Rom and installed it which unlocked my device with no problems. However, the only network I seem able to use is O2 (I tried a friends chip) but I want to use my T-Mobile UK chip. I tried the function included in the rom which allows you to switch bands but I still cant get it to recognise T-Mobile, I don't know if it is anything to do with the radio stack, I don't think it is but I could be wrong? Anyway, can any of you offer anyt advice or have you maybe had the same or a similar problem? If so I would really appreciate any imput you might have. Many thanks.
xda1 is only dualband and us xda1's only support 900/1900 not 900/1800 like eu use no way of getting around that really
hi
my previous wallaby was phone edition DT Com from the states, friend of mine which bought it there for me unlocked it and I used it normally in Bosnia, also he had one US wallaby marked as siemens sx56 also unlocked and used here too. As far as I can remember he also bought one more for his cousin here too... Now you know where all those old wallabys are - here !
Dont want to argue is it possible or not just want to inform you, maybe those wallabys was some special kind, dont know.
GL
900Mhz is used by both us and eu so operators who use that band are supported but there is no way to make a dual band a tri band or any way to change a eu dualband to a us dualband that i know of
My Qtek 1020, incidentally bought in the UK, also suffers from this 'feature' and as a result only works on O2 and Vodafone (maybe others but those for sure), but definitely not on T-Mobile and Orange.
Regards,
Neil.
Hi, does anyone know how to enable 850mhz in this fone. please, very needed i bought thinking that this was quadband as htc elf ( touch )
thanks
I am not sure this is even possible.
Is the chip supporting 850?

Yes, the chip is quadband (same chip set as TyTN II).

It's too bad, but the HTC TOUCH DUAL does not support 850mhz :-( My home network is 850 only and the HTC is useless in it!
Yes, it doesn't support 850 now, but the big question is it possible to support it with a different ROM. Probably a big project to lift the code from another HTC product that uses the same chip.

tom_condon is working on a new ROM for the touch dual now. maybe you could ask him?
It can very likely be done by enabling a bit in the NV RF Config item.
I am working on that, see here.
That would be awesome. For me, 850 Mhz and GPS are the two things keeping the Dual from being the ultimate phone to date.
Thanks,
Telstra is selling a 850 MHz Touch Dual on their NextG Network, but it is not the same as the reglar Tri-Band device. Seems HTC is actually selling multiple versions iof the device to suit different carriers.
a radio update or something can help? that would be ideal since i am in the same situation 3g is on a different mhz but phone is at 2100 for 3g
Just found out the phone will be release in the us sometime in Q2 they say it will be compatible with AT&T 3g hopefully the rom from this new phone can help us that have already bought it.
...
There is a Touch Dual that supports 850MHZ codename "NEON" and not "NIKI"
There is a complete other Tranceiver chip inside.
NIKI is no Quadband Device!
So do you recommend selling my Niki and getting a Neon then to stay compatible with US networks? I know netrunner was saying there is a possibility the NV items can be changed to take out the 2100 and put in the 850
...
yes u can change the NV-Items but the Chip dosn't support 850MHZ.
OR... we don't know enought about the RFR6300 Chip.
We need internal shots or a list of Chips from a NEON.
Apologize if this is a stupid question ...
But it it possible to get niki to do 3g on a freq other than 2100 ?
that would require a major hardware change, so its unlikely.
thank you. that helps.
On 2-14-08, HTC started selling the HTC Touch Dual 850 in Australia. The big question is whether it has the same chips inside as the Touch Dual. There has been some talk that the regular Touch Dual has a chip that works on the 850 frequency, so I'd say there is a good chance the two devices are the same with differnt ROMs.
We really need someone to upload the ROM from a Touch Dual 850.
I believe that there were two differing Qualcomm 7200 chipsets produced:
One with support for 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (the US version, in which the 850 & 1900 MHz band is used for UMTS). And one which supports 900/1800/1900/2100 MHz (for Europe) In which the 2100 MHz band is used for HSDPA.
You could be right though, it may be that the only differences are in software.
The device can't support all five frequencies(at least it shouldn't be able to ), but it may be possible to pick and choose by flashing radio roms.
Only time will tell...
I have read the lg ks20 manuel ... if you need more frequency, you need hardware parts! on of this parts are a RF switcher. the radio read out the nv ram too.
I'd say that just about does it. I will be wanting an 850 model soon.
in the moment ... i think ... no 850mhz nike!!!
hoping a radio update can do it for the niki since i just bought one in the us and just learnt about this issue.
do you think the australia rom would fix it or the radio, i do know the australia rom is available for download but isn't the radio more important for this issue?

Has anyone found out any new info about this? I too have issues with the Niki100 not covering all the bands I need for coverage in my area and have no 3G. With the US Touch Dual coming out soon, or with the Australia release, I was hoping someone had a radio flash that could provie if upgrading the radio fimrware worked.
you havent understand what i have tell!!!
niki havent the right RV Switch!!! You cant change anything to handle G3 network on 850MHz or 1900MHz!!!
the US Touch Dual or AUS Touch Dual isnt a HTC Niki ... it is a HTC NEON!!!
Both can use the same OS and Radio Roms! The Radio Rom is every time the same!
@NetrunnerAT
just to be fare:
there are 2 models of HTC Touch Dual available here in Australia:
HTC Touch Dual UMTS 2100MHz
HTC Touch Dual UMTS 850MHz (Telstra NextG frequencies)
ok again ... Touch Dual 850MHz is a HTC NEON!!!! Both Device have the same Case and a simulare Chipset, but different RV Chips!!!
Don't bug me!
So I purchased a UK unlocked Touch Pro and had it shipped to the US. While I hope there will be an ATT radio rom flash in the future, I have a quick question for the veterans out there:
On the Touch Pro, under the Phone Band settings, you can select "GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)"
When I do this all I receive is Edge on ATT, but aren't the UMTS bands correct already for ATT under this setting?

There are several threads on this topic already...Here's one:

Thanks, I appreciate the reply, but I had read through that thread. I understand that the device is likely in need of a reprogrammed ROM to activate the hardware because at the end of the day it is not working. My question is specifically if the phone setting is allowing me to select the two ATT UMTS bands already why wouldn't I get 3G speed?

I have the UK version of the phone as well and I have the same issue. I have selected the right bands for both UMTS and GSM but all I get is EDGE. The reason for this is either a hardware limitation (no radio antenna to support 850/1900 UMTS bands (let's hope not) or the factory installed radio firmware does not include those bands or all those da#@ iPhone 3G users are hogging all the UMTS bandwidth . Hopefully all we need is to flash a new radio or ROM to unlock these bands. Just because you can select this band in phone settings does not mean the radio or hardware support it.
I guess I am crossing my fingers along with you . Thanks!

Even though this is for T-Mobile im sure if tmo gets unlocked att will to. Watch that and post there if someone cracks it they will post on that thread.
I have a question for the guys only getting EDGE when they have the correct bands set.......do you have a 3G enabled SIM card? (aka a USIM, some networks require you use one for the 3G to be utilised correctly).
Hi, in answer to your question, yes I have a 3G compatible SIM. I literally plucked it out of my TyTN 2/ TILT and put it in to the Touch Pro. The Touch Pro automatically found the ATT network, and when I went in to check bands I realized that there was an option for the US UMTS bands. I am guessing that others have been right when they have stated that just because there is a menu option it doesn't mean the radios are properly enabled.

So currently you are using a HTC branded Raphael? Could you post your ROM/Radio details? (device info in settings/system) Also your ROM build (settings/system->about)?

I have a 3G enabled SIM, been using it with the Kaiser for the past year with good 3G reception. I now have the HTC branded Raph (UK version) with no 3G reception, only EDGE. Here's the info on my ROM/Radio:
ROM: 1.90.405.1 WWE (8/1/08)
Build: 19965.1.2.3
Radio: 1.02.25.19
OK so it seems the only radios actually in these Raphaels at the moment are all 1.02.25.19, once we have a decent way to flash a different radio stack to it we can see if it makes any difference both in the bands available and some of the reception issues we are seeing so far.
I'm not an expert in this area at all, far from it, but but was reading Black's post about his AT&T model and he has 1.01.25.16. Is this what you're going to flash it to once the HardSPL is completed given that you know his radio supports AT&T 3G?
I'm trying to keep up...
Has anybody heard an ETA for Hardspl? I know they where testing it. But any rumors on a timeframe?
My new UK Touch Pro (radio ver 1.02.25.19) is exhibiting this same behavior on AT&T... I have tried all combinations of those dropdowns under phone options without any luck. It does seem very strange that HTC put the US 3G bands in the band dropdown, but included radio software that doesn't support it...
... Why would HTC bother removing hardware supported bands in the software?

Because they couldn't get it working well enough in time for the release date, I guess. Similar to what appears to have been the case with the Diamond. The US isn't their main concern at the moment, so delaying a US-compatible version for now in or der to get it to the rest of the world on time.
Either that or it's deliberate act to slow down the grey imports until they do a proper US release in hand with the local carriers.
If AT&T doesn't want to subsidize the Pro/Diamond, HTC doesn't really have to worry about putting in 1900 support. And honestly, AT&T is too busy with the iPhone 3G to care about HTC.
On the other hand, I'm sure HTC is very interested in getting in on T-mo 3G (1700/2100). By downplaying 1900 (which is being eaten up by the iPhone, anyway), HTC can gear up for the fresh 1700/2100 band. Paired with Android, HTC could potentially gain a big chunk of US 3G networks.
I'm a touch pro user in Canada on the Rogers network. I too hope that HTC releases a radio that allows 3g network access. I don't think its a hardware limitation because it wouldn't really make sense to make two versions of the same phone just to disable parts of the radio.
I disagree with the statement that AT&T is too busy with the iPhone 3G to care about the Touch Pro. The fact is that the target audience for the two phones are entirely different and that a considerable amount of AT&T corporate customers still require their employees to use PPC based phones (even if the iPhone 3G supports email push).
Corporate standards don't usually move as quickly as they should, so of course AT&T is interested in extracting more money from customers that purchased a Tilt over the past 8 months and want to upgrade, but are not allowed to use an iPhone.
If HTC removed support because they were unable to get the software functioning properly, I can live with that. EDGE for a few months while HTC readies a new radio software package is fine... EDGE while HTC readies new hardware is not.

If AT&T weren't interesting in pushing the Touch Pro, HTC wouldn't have went to the trouble and expense of making a specific hardware revision (PTT button) for them. That's not something HTC are gonna do just for the hell of it on a quiet Sunday afternoon.
Maybe I didn't read the thread well enough but did you try and flash the AT&T ROM that was posted? Maybe that might work!
I got a TD 850 which was for Telstra, its unlocked (so i was told) but i hate all the crapware that the carrier has on it. I would like to install a reg WM6 or even WM6.5 rom for it as one might find on the other unlocked version (non carrier) of the TD.
I would really appreciate it if someone could point me to the correct rom as i don't want to install the wrong one and possibly brick my device. Also pointing me to a decent guide on how to install it will be great too.
Thanks!

Welcome aboard - when you take the battery off of the device - what model does it say in the top left corner of the label?
I have a feeling that the Telstra 850 is a Neon, but I am unsure whether the ROMs for the Neon 400 are compatible. I was actually looking at getting a second hand one of these so I can get better coverage (my current phone uses 900 not 850, so I don't get true NextG or its coverage area)
DT
Oh.. its a neon 200
Firstly you have to HardSPL it so that you can install any ROM you want.
Here is a link to the thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2025514
Then find a ROM - the NEON 400 ROMs won't be any good for you as they are for CDMA devices, not GSM
Not sure what NEON 200 ROMs there are though at the moment - if I get a Telstra 850, I'll be cooking for it, but at the moment I have a Niki.
