Wireless Help and AP4 - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo ROM Development

Hey
I have an Ameo; running AP4 and radio version 1.50
I can turn on wireless and it says wireless is available however thats it, i cant connect to anything nor use MSN or anything like that.
So i played around with it. I seen within some setting (network cards i think) that i had 2 wireless showing saying 'available' so i clicked connect and it said 'connecting' and then goes back to avilable and after a few attempts, unavilable.
My wifi is not secured, anyone can connect. Any help appreciated
Now as for the AP4 question when i turn my ameo around, the screen layout switches how can i turn the automated switch off ?
thanks

Start, settings, connections, wifi, network adaptors tab.
Under 'My network card connects to' ensure it says 'The Internet' and not 'Work'.

I flashed the AP4 ROM on T-Mobile Ameo. There is no chance to start Wireless. There is only a WLAN-Ícon but no WIFI-Icon
but without this the AP4 Rom is very great...

Hi Baby1111,
This ist not the solution for most of the Wifi-Problems i think. In my case the Symbol wich looks like WIFI ist named "Network Card". If I change to Internet instead of work nothing changes. WIFI does not turn on.
I saw the name of device in Bootloader ist ATHE400
Here my bootloader Information in the red bar:
ATHE400
IPL-v1.00
ATHE400 MFG
SPL-v3.50.OliNex
maybe this can be a problem, before i think ist was ATHE100. Also the TOMTOM 6 requests a new activation so somthing seems to be changed with the IMEI or so.
by reading the forum there if found 3 Cases for solution:
1. this one Change from Work to Internet ->> No scuccess in my situation
2. disable the automatic screen orientation ->> no complete Instruction how to do this or i can not understand it.
3. Sent the MAC-Adress of the device to Senior users like OLIPRO and get a file to change. ->> I dont know if they are glad to get much support requests.
I hope there will be a fix wich i can do by myself without disturbing the gurus at there great work.

@ Bit117 and Baby111
I can assist you if your WiFi did not properly configure during the flashing of AP4 instead of Olipro and cmonex (Olinex) who we'd like to have working on higher issues.
Send me a PM with your original MAC address and an e-mail address where I can send you a custom file configured to your device. I will also send detailed step-by-step instructions to fix your device. You will need to use MTTY so if you don't have that, find it in the wiki.
Regards,
Raskell
p.s. - If you do not know your original MAC address, check inside your battery door. On some models it is listed there (not the same as IMEI). Others have reported that flashing back to the modified AP3 gives a working Wifi. If this is so for you, get your MAC address from there and reflash to AP4, sending me the MAC info and we'll get you working!

Yes, this is obviously not a fix for those whose wifi will not turn on.
But I've come across a few people who think their wifi is not working because this setting is wrong, and when I installed AP4 it set it to 'Work' by default.

I would re-flash the 1.50 or change to 1.57 radio, if I were you.
I’ve tried out all wireless with 1.57 radio in mine after having AP4,
all reception excellent. Very impressed particularly on the Bluetooth range.

where can i get 1.57 my mate?

Solution: PEAP authentication without server certificate validation!

I struggled for several days to get my 8525 (Cingular 1.34) to authenticate either PEAP or LEAP against my work network. I never did figure out how to get LEAP to work, but I did get PEAP going. I've added a new section to the wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry covering how to disable checking of the authentication server's certificate.
We didn't pay the $$$$ for a commercial certificate, so on all our XP clients we uncheck the "Validate server certificate" option....no such beastie on Cingular 1.34 at least. Turns out there's a reg key one can add to disable the validation:
Code:
\HKLM\Comm\EAP\Extension\25\ValidateServerCert=dword:00000000
does the trick.
Hope this helps someone else trying to get PEAP to work with their WiFi!
Note also that connectivity to our Cisco APs seem to work MUCH better when I slide the WiFi PowerManagement slider over to performance. My cheapo D-Link router works fine at any setting, but the Ciscos seem to drop packets right and left with power management happening.

Secondly, why not just add your CA as trusted CA on your PPC? It seems to be the way to go in your case.

I'm sure only in that my IT guy swears we only support PEAP and he could see my authentication failing until I added the switch and now he sees me authenticating PEAP successfully.

I agreed, but I think IT wants to leave their options open for future certificates open. If I hadn't been successful with this, that was going to be my next try.

Create the same registry key- it wasn't there in WM5 either. I can confirm that this works on my Tilt/Kaiser running WM6.

I guess I missed the "add" part. Anyways, it connects but is VERY unreliable. Whenever I turn on the device it makes me type in my password even though it is stored or just doesnt work. If it doesn't work I go into the settings and a lot of times the "Use IEEE 802.1x" is unchecked or the EAP type is changed to smart card. Sometimes even still it doesn't work until I reboot or disable and reenable wifi. Even then it doesn't always work. Anyone else having similiar problems?

Not sure you're really fighting the PEAP certificate problem then. Note also that our Cisco APs don't like the power management setting on anything other than high performance.

Hi
I ve bought a HTC Tornado(TMobile SDA-unlocked)with Windows Mobile 5 smartphone to take advantage of our WiFi network. I am having problems setting up my WiFi connection and i cant find a solution..please help me...
When using my laptop wifi connect I set up the following
My network name (SSIDD) - Utech-Students
Network Authentication OPEN
Data Encryption WEP
key is automatically provided (i tick this option)
Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network
EAP Type as PEAP.
Then under configuration of PEAP I uncheck Validate Server
Certificate and authentication method selected as "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) and "enable fast reconnect" is also ticked.
With these settings it works perfectly well in laptop.
But with these settings made in the SDA phone it gives the following error msgs ;
"The server certificate is issued by an unknown authority" and
"Cannot log on to the wireless network. This network requires a personal certificate to positively identify you."
I NEED HELP DESPERATELY ...
Please note that i am not a computer savy...so please help me to
understand the things what i am supposed to do.
Awaiting to hear from you ...thanking you in advance

I am. I added the key on both a Dash running stock WM5 and an 8525 running Schap's 4.31 ROM and it only works on the Dash - same wifi config on both connecting to the same network.
Now after days of reading i found a solution for all the devices that couldnt connect with the modified reg-key(HKLM/COMM/EAP/EXT....ValidateServerCert) to a wpa and eap-mschap secured wlan.
To enable the eap-options you have to install the securew2 client. Once you had installed you can choose for authentication method one of the securew2 has provided(this is where you see PEAP and 802.1X) in the WLAN Connections. Just select the TTLS method and disable the outer authentication and the certificate validation in the options. Now you can select EAP and MS-chapv2 in the authentication tab of the securew2 client. and at least you can sign in here your name, password and domain. You can also set an Profile with your settings in the Securew2 client.
This Solution has worked for me on a HTC Touch Cruise(XDA-Orbit-2).
Hello,
I have the problem of logging in a secured network, and I found the solution
here of adding the registry value. I am working with WM 6.1.
Maybe my question is a stupid, but I don't understand what exactly I have
to add - A key named "ValidateServerCert", and to set it's default value to 0,
or to create a Value named "ValidateServerCert" onder the key "25", make it
DWORD type, and give it the value of 0...
What should I add?
Thanks!
Hello this is a sirious problem I think,
I wasnt able to get this going...
I tried the reg key method (but I am not sure if I did this correct)
and I installed the w2secure client (didnt work either)
so further explanation is required(PLEASE)
sorry if this post doesnt sound very polite but I did my best ^^
btw. I dont own a Hermes but a Touch Diamond with WinMo 6.1
Richard,
Great call. Spent a couple of hours trying to configure my touch pro to stop asking for a personal certificate with no joy. Upping power save mode to 'best performance' allowed it to authenticate straight away. Once this was done, dropped it to best battery and everything seems to work fine (famous last words of course).
Hello all. I have a cingular 8125 and found the same problem with the wifi access. I am new to total commander and I understand the process, however I do not know how to create the registry listed above to correct the problem. Any help with the program would be great, thanks.

share 3G via WiFi?

I thought I saw a .cab file here somewhere that would allow you to bridge the 3G/EDGE connection to the WiFi connection so I can share my 3G over WiFi to laptop or whatever.
Anyone seen this? I cant remember the name, thought it was something like WMBridge or something.
Thanks

internet connection sharing will allow you to share your 3G over bluetooth or USB to your laptop !!
and now that I think about it you can almost certainly go through the arduous and difficult task of getting activesync to connect over an adhoc wifi connection, once that is done you will be able to use the phone as a 3G modem for your laptop.

u can do it tht way but its hard, and requires a registry hack, which to be fair doesnt work all that well, disconns after a couple of mins at best, bluetooth is the way to go if u want wireless connecton, although i use the lead for security, u can use the 3g conn as a modem, but then if u like us use tmob wb and walk then u cnt use ur data package.
hope this helps

The app is called wmWifiRouter. Looks like they just came out with a new version the 10th. Forget bluetooth, its not secured at all, and only lets you share with one device. With wmwifirouter you can share with many. See the link below.

excellent that is exactly what I was looking for, I will play with it today and see if I can get it to work.
Thanks

Should be a simple matter of copying the exe to your device and running it. It takes care of all the registry settings, starting up Internet Sharing, keeping the connection alive, and with the latest version you can even put the unit to sleep and your connection will stay alive. About the only thing it doesn't do is set up a peer-to-peer profile with a fixed IP address, but the thread above walks you through that. Make sure you set the profile to use WPA encryption (NOT WEP or 'open') and set a password.

The directions are confusing because the newer method was grafted onto the same thread as the older method. So it's hard to tell what's what. I put about an hour into this but made no progress. The exe file doesn't appear to do anything on the Athena...

Sorry, just saw your response as I wrote mine. Here is what I did:
1. set up an ad hoc network on my Athena. IP address 192.168.0.1 (another place saide 192.168.0.7--tried both)
2. Set up on my client (MacBook Pro). A connection was established.
3. Ran the exe file -- nothing happened. One comment said to deactivate the network before running. I did this in various degrees with no success.
4. Also opened up the Internet Sharing applet and tried to connect manually -- "USB cable is not connected."
Clearly I'm missing something here. It would be very handy to have this capability. Can you clarify??
Not sure why you are having a problem - I unzipped the zip, transfered the exe to the athena and it ran on the first try after first setting up the ad-hoc wifi connection (settings, connections, wi-fi, network adapters tab, IEEE..., use specific IP address in the 192.168.x.x range; then go to the other tab and set up an ad-hoc connection).
I had an even worse experience. Everytime I ran the exe, my Athena locked up, needing a complete reset each time.
I gave up in the end .
I have got other methods to work using Mortscipts, but it does seem like something that would be well worth someones time sorting out for the good of us all.
Have you tried the latest version of wmWifiRouter? The developer released a new version of it earlier this month. Its on version 0.8 now.

Wireless as in WIFI? Using the switch on the side?
Re: Radio and Wireless
I am also encountering a similar problem. If I stand next to the access point and try to connect to the AP, it fails or it connects but I can't connect to the internet(PIE always can not load page).
I changed the encryption from AES to WEP to no avail. Even went so far as to re flashing 3.2.6. I am also using the same radio as you.
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this problem.
Thanks,
Ed
I would take off all WEP and encryption and try to connect with it as a open WiFi. If you still can't connect then you have some other issues either with your WAP or maybe still with your phone. Then if it does connect then add the WEP encryption back on. You may have to change the type of WEP to one the phone supports. I just use MAC filtering so no one else can get on my wireless but scanners can see what is being passed around on my wireless. (mostly teenage girl stuff, I think a scanner would get bored really quick) LOL

you do have the switch turned on, on the side of the phone and then go into the comm manager and at the bottom go into the Wireless LAN settings.
You might need to refresh or manually create the connection if your WAP doesn't broadcast its SSID.
I've been having problems with wi-fi too, mostly since my upgrade. I am on dcd 3.25 and radio 3.42.50. I can usually connect ok, but then either I can't connect to any web sites or I can surf for a few minutes and then it stops (although still shows connected). Since so many are on these (ROM and Radio), I am doubting that is the issue. It did work better on the prior versions of both, but again if not effecting others don't see how that can be the issue. Hopefully it is not a hardware issue since this is already my second phone (power button caved in on the last one, not much quality there). Any ideas?
Thanks,

Do you have anything else using your WAP? Just sounds more like your access point then your phone. I had a wireless router that would do that with any wireless device so I had to get a new one.
Unfortunately, there are 2 computers in my house that work fine of the router. It is also happening when I try to connect to wi-fi at work. I've also noticed that sometime it just won't connect. I am in the same room as the router now and it won't even register it. Doesn't even look that hard...searches for 2 seconds and stops. Very strange.
yes the switch is on and enabled in comm manager. It finds signals but can not connect to any of it.
You guys might want to try WiFiFoFum (should be around here somewhere) It will show all the WiFi APs and even use the GPS to log them. If they don't register there, then I would say try flashing the Radio and DCD's ROMs again. The only issue I had with WiFi is it wouldn't turn on with the hardware switch and I swapped out the phone.
Thanks, I'll give it a try....
Fletcher,
I've got the exact same problem. When I leave my AP open, it connects and stays connected. As soon as I switch over to WPA-PSK AES with an 8 character key, I get the symptoms that you describe. I can get to about 2 pages in PIE and then it takes a dump.
I'm on DCD 3.2.6 and radio 3.42.50. I don't have a solution, but at least wanted to let you know that you're not alone. It has to be something software related. I have a bunch of other clients that connect no problem with the same settings: PS3, Wii, laptop, PSP. I LOVE DCD roms, but may have to switch if I can't figure something out.
I am still having trouble connecting. It can see signals but not connect to any of them.
Tried wififofum. It sees the AP's and I can sometime connect. But no matter what it drops the connection within a few minutes. Then it won't reconnect or see any ap's (only looks for about 5 secs then stops). If I leave the switch off for a while and then try again, I can do the same thing all over again.
What do you think? A setting, a reg setting, broken phone? Thanks to any and all.....
-Fletch
Not sure if this helps, but I noticed that when it drops the internet connection (after 3-5 minutes), that when I look at WIFIFOFUM it still show the AP. A few time, it showed that the AP was no longer available, but the graphic at the top still shows connected by the phone. It seems like a software or hardware problem with the phone, but I'm not sure which. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Bluetooth Pan on Verizon XV6800 & Leopard Mac

Hey all,
So I've got a small issue. I've got a Verizon XV6800 with the MR1 Rom WM6.1, Valhalla GPS server, 3.42.50 Radio.
Internet connection sharing is not working at this point. I've gone through the winmodem and internet connection sharing cab installs, registry edits, etc. None seem to help.
I previously had a ATT tilt 8925 and had no issues whatsoever tethering it to my mac by just pairing the phone, selecting to "Using a direct Higher speed connection to reach your ISP". Starting Internet Sharing on the phone, selecting Bluetooth PAN & the default data connection, then selecting connect. Then selecting "Connect to network" On the mac through the my phone listed in the bluetooth connections. That simple.
Having installed the "Internet Sharing" cab onto the phone. Internet sharing appears to work, but the phone does not advertise this service, like the ATT tilt did on ATT's network.
I've also tried a few registry edits, and used all variations of modem scripts, and got all the dialup info from verizon directly (so I know it was right ) but could not get dialup to work either. Usually not detecting a carrier, other times lockups.
I truely want to get the bluetooth-PAN working again as it did on my tilt. Anyone have this working on the MAc with a XV6800 on verizon?
i did have it working before. I'm wondering if you might be more successful with a custom rom. Verizon installs software (at least previous roms, I haven't tested the MR1 rom) that reverts reg edits and keeps it working like VzW wants it to. This could be causing problems. First check after a soft-reset to make sure your reg edits still exist.
Also I'm sure you've tried this be in Leopard's bluetooth setup delete the phone and try again. You need to select the type of device as any device in order for leopard to see it. Can you connect the device to your mac? Try that first. If you get a BT connection non-internet connection and you change your settings delete the phone and try again. I forget some of the setting I used. Also Engadget had a how to article for BT pan using the xv6700 and Tiger most of the information is still useful. It's a couple years old so you might have a hard time finding it.
Hope some of that helps.

As mentioned, I have tried a ton of different methods to try and use the data connection, from using dialup settings, to trying to get the Bluetooth Pan working. I've removed and re-paired the device from my mac, flashed roms, hacked away at the registry a ton of times. Nothing seems to give so far.
I've got one more suggestion, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1794133&postcount=29
I'm going to give this a shot tomorrow and will let you know how it goes.

Hey all,
So I've got a small issue.

You can use the link from the previous post here, and just copy the dll's and exe to the Windows directory, and place teh shortcut into the Device\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ directory.

hey, ok great, i just downloaded the file, Just one question..
The file i downloaded has about a page of Reg Key changes, you didnt mention that in your "thngs to do"
Just want to see if i am to make all those changes or not.
thanks
So, your problem is in getting the internet connection to work and not connecting it to the mac, right? Does your mac recognize the phone as a modem?
If you're using MR1 I think you might need to hard reset and the soft reset right before the Verizon customizations run. You won't be able to run their apps but there won't be software to cripple the phone.
i have the same exact issue i have a new macbook pro and the bluetooth connects however the speed is slower then dial up it works perfectly however on bootcamp apple has to change the drivers
So more results.
I tried all the registry edits, (much easier with CD-Regedit so you can make the changes on your desktop) and now internet sharing does not even allow me to select a connection type, it had worked previously.
The only thing that was missing before I made the registry changes was that when I pair the phone, in the services listed, "Network Access Point" is not one of the listed services. My old phone has this service listed, and this is how I used it, where I started internet sharing on the phone, then selected the bluetooth device (phone) on the mac and selected: "Connect to Network) and it worked flawless.
Back to the drawing board. I'm going to try next to re-flash the MR1 rom and do as Cycomachead suggested and stop verizons customizations from happening.
bryanw17, what were the exact settings you used for dialup on the mac. The modem script used is probably the most important piece.

Darn, I wish I could provide more help. It is indeed possible in Leopard, I had it going before I began flashing my phone - and I no longer have a data plan to test, otherwise I'd be using it a lot more!
aparently no one with a new macbook pro can get bluetooth pan to work. I have it connected however the drivers for the new macbook pro do not provide a good connection if you search the mac forums theyve been talking about it on there. I dont use a username n password however because i use the internet sharing app for the moment i am using wmwifirouter to connect online however my xv6800 doesnt charge at the same time for some reason so u can only use it till the battery dies
So some more results.
I installed ICS and all the registry edits. Then the internet Connection Sharing did not function at all. I verified the registry settings, all were fine. So no dice with me.
So back to the drawing board.
I installed a previous rom. DCD 3.2.6, and guess what? From initial flash of the phone and initial setup, no apps installed, no hacking, ICS runs and provides a network connection to my mac perfect. I also instantly notice when I pair it through bluetooth, it allows the option of "Access this device as a network port". And "Network Access point" is listed as an offered service.
I installed newer rom DCD 3.3.4, and the MR1 Rom. Neither have ICS installed initially. I can install the two files: intshare.dll and IntShrUI.exe into the windows directory without any reg edits, and then ICS works on the phone, but then pairing the phone to the Mac, and attempting to discover teh PAN service is unsuccessful. It only is discovered as a Dialup Access device, and not a "Network Access Point".
So, It appears I can get internet Sharing via Bluetooth PAN to function on the phone no matter which rom, but have not figure out how to tell the mac, or trick the mac, into thinking the "Network Access Point" service is available.
I have pulled completed registry dumps with CE-Regedit and compared the differences between the two, which there are quite a few, but not sure how to export these differences with the program so I can apply them to the other roms registry. I guess I might try a fukll backup and then restore to the new(er) rom and cross my fingers.
I'd stay with the 3.2.6 rom. and 3.42.50 Radio, with PRI 2.03, but I can only seem to make the GPS function successfully with the MR1 stock verizon rom.
Anybody want to take the two regs files compare, and see if they can find out where we can make the change to have the phone advertise the service "Network Access Point" when being paired to the mac or PC?
On one last note. I also tried the method of restoring the MR1 official rom, and then not allowing the customizations. ICS will function, but again, not advertising the service: "Network Access Point" when pairing, so it's not recognized as a valid networking method.
Where did you get those files (intshare.dll and IntShrUI.exe) to allow ICS via bluetooth?
Nevermind, I found it on PPCGeeks.
Don't know why DCD disabled the BT DUN on ICS.
I use Missing sync, and I turned on PAN then added my phone and it shoed it as a modem when I added it, but my BT connection is fairly Unrealible compared to the USB teather on Bootcamp
i was under the impression that bt pan has been whacked on macbook pro models starting from early 2008 on. anything earlier than that and it seems to work great. does anyone know why bt pan doesnt work on the newer machines and how to get it to work?

AP40 strange WIFI Problem

Hi,
I just flashed AP40 and did the SPL35 upgrade. Everything fine.
Without inserted SIM and SD-Card, WIFI works.
If I insert SIM and SD-Card, WIFI still works, but can't connect to any Access Point (I have several).
Strange...
Any ideas?
Trying to flash avengerpenguin's WM6.5 now.
Radio is 1.57, I had MichyPrima's WM61 before and WIFI was working well.
Cheers,
vma
Works again with averngerpenguin's WM6.5 and SIM/SD inserted.
Cheers,
vma
Hi again...
After trying out WM6.5 I concluded that I did not like it. avengerpenguin did a great job, but unfortunatly I can't say the same from Microsoft.
The menu's are horrible, everything is much more scattered around and much less productive than WM6.1.
Enough said, I installed AP40 again. First thing I tried out was to insert the SIM and check WIFI. It worked, so I was happy and got everything back together (syncing, getting all the shortcuts back, etc.).
It was only when I tried to connect to my BT headset that I found out that it wasn't working. I turned on WIFI and now it is as before: sees the AP's, but doesnt connect!
Any ideas what may be causing it? Can it be the operator customisation?
This really sucks!
EDIT:
BT works now, but was still kind of strange to connect headset. In doubt I still plead in favour of the Athena.
WIFI, however is not working, neither with or without SIM inserted. My settings are pretty simple, SHARED, WEP and a single 128bit key.
And I am 100% sure the settings are correct, because it did work right after flashing. Only after some while did it stop. I just installed MS Voice Command (can't hardly be the cause).
I searched th ewhole forum, I know it's not the MAC problem and yep, I tried the turning off all security on my router.
Would be great to hear any ideas.
Thanks,
vma
Similar problem with wifi.

yes, I've got similar problem with wifi. After managing to activate it (switch wifi on) through the pain though, it still useless, unable to connect to any access point with any settings. It can be even unsecured network. On my home router I removed all security and made it open with default compatibility settings, but no luck! All my other windows mobile PDAs (Kaiser and universal) get connected to those access points with no problems.
Seems nobody can give any good advise for this case in this forum.
