Dear fellow xda-devs,
After some discussion with mikechannon in our diagnosis thread, we came to a conclusion that my Hermes camera is actually broken. I can't live without it on my phone as I'm a guy who loves spontaneous photography. I can shoot on practically anything, anytime. A standalone camera is too expensive for me. I'm just a student and my Hermes practically used up my savings.
So here I am, appealing to all Hermes users who have a bricked/faulty/extra/spare/not-in-use to donate/spare/sell me their Hermes camera at a bargain.
Thanks in advance.
P.S - I live in Malaysia

Hi
As it happens I have one I could donate, BUT the postage costs might be expensive from UK to Malaysia.
Perhaps wait to see if someone closer has one for you.

hey hey,
yeah i saw that post too. there are tons of faulty devices out the that i can make use of, but money has always been the culprit stopping me from doing so..

btw mike, i was wondering how much will the shipping be from Uk to Malaysia for small packets? Cause last week, i bought a pair of stylus and the shipping is only a couple of pounds. I was thinking that if you were to donate, i think it is only fair that i cover your shipping cost

Oks, thanks for replying, I'll keep an eye open.
Hi everyone!
I know you guys have been discussing this all over the place, but all the technical chat is just a bit too complicated for me in this case.
I know this is my first post and you don't really have a reason to help me, but I really would appreciate it if someone could find it in them to explain it for us dummies
From what I've been reading, it's not possible to make your Vibrant into a mobile hotspot at the moment....but I'm also seeing cases where people are saying that it IS possible. Which is true? And, if you indeed cannot do so right now, will you be able to in the future? I'm leaving the states for a few months on Friday and need to buy a phone tomorrow. Vibrant has the lead for me right now, but I really need wireless tethering for my iPad.
Anyone?

China Scam...
I'm half suspicious you are the scammer responsible for that page, and you've only posted to get more hits, since I can't believe anyone with even an iota of critical thinking would need to actually ask that question.
If you do pull the trigger on that one, then I know this nigerian guy who will be keen to be in touch with you, could be quite a lucrative opportunity.
if it looks to good to be true.......chance is this is like many sites in china......con, I used to get loads of ads of these kinds of companies with stuff mega cheap, just google them and see, other chance is that it is a cheap copy.

Yeah, I know you are desperate to have the phone like the rest of us. You're not the only one here to have rational thought overtaken by gadget-lust, you should see the number of guys here who purchased 32GB microSD cards for "amazing prices", only to receive fakes.
When you're buying electronics you should really only ever stick to reputable sellers - anything online that looks too good to be true is a sham.
Ordered a SGII on Friday for $9.99 with the Fathers Day promotion ATT had running.
It arrived a couple of hours ago and has been charging. I haven't even turned it on yet. This is to replace a Captivate I've had for 22 months that I dropped on Thursday night and broke the LCD. I'd been dealing with a broken glass since the phone was 4 months old so it was definitely time for an upgrade.
I had Continuum Themed on the Captivate for over a year. Worked really well. Obviously rooted, unlocked and unlocked the market. Opened up tethering and had deleted all the bloatware. Also had modified battery info icons for the status bar. I'm looking to do something very similar with the SGII but I read that the author of the Continuum has stopped creating new roms.
I have to read up and get back into modding, as I mentioned, its been over a year since I last flashed a rom. Are there any former Captivate owners here?
Something occured to me, when setting up the new phone you have to agree to the new terms and conditions to register the phone on the network. If I flashed it and used my old sim card, would I need to register it on the network? I didnt have to do that to an unlocked Nokia that came over from the UK that I had for a few years. I put in my sim card and was able to make calls as soon as it had booted.

So what exactly is the point of this thread? Aside from the SIM card question, which you would've seen the answer if you just attempted at using your new phone, I see nothing.
Then you should reread the OP.
I clearly stated I hadn't even turned the phone on yet. I am saying hello to fellow SGII users and introducing myself. I asked if there where any other prior Captivate users, thus a common ground, inciting conversation about users experiences with the 2 phones, and I mentioned that the rom I was using isn't supported, thus also inciting conversation about which roms SGII users prefer/are using/have had experience with.
Unbunch those panties and wash that sand out of your vag.

Yea....your gonna do good around here with that attitude.
So you want opinions and a friend to talk with. Go to facebook. this is an android development forum. Not some girly, lets reminense of past forum.
Dont ask for opinions on what ROM is best, or what anything is best, figure it out for yourself. Your inticing the idiots that like sharing their phone dependent, and opinionated likes and dislikes.
Good day douche. Yea I'll prolly get infracted, but your worth it.
I'm the one with the attitude? Hilarious.
If we dont talk about stuff, how are we expected to grow and learn as a community? You should also note that at no point did I ever say which rom was "best." I asked for users experiences. Totally different.
And reminiscing about the past? Seriously?
If you have nothing constructive to add here, then sod off. Otherwise pipe down and grow up.

you are going to get flamed for this. There is no reason to attack anyone. If you had searched, you would see tons of threads that have been locked because they asked for "what rom should I use...". Dont ask ... Just flash and find out yourself.
you will not get any help with a reply like that.

Welcome to the SGSII, which is basically a Captivate on steroids.

There was nothing to get wound up in that original post, thus I said what I said.

hi everyone! I am seeking your expertise as I came upon this forum trying to help my son fix his phone. He's only 11 years old- but as we call him at home our "tech guy". He got a brand new HTC One M8 yesterday and 3 hours later - the phone was "bricked" as I have been told. Apparently, (these are his words) he "unlocked the bootloader using HTCdev, then flashed twrp, then flashed supersu.zip.
I have no idea what any of that means but apparently he did something wrong because his phone is not working and we don't know how to fix it. If you have any compassion for a frustrated Mom who's trying not to be angry with her son -- I would appreciate any advice you can give on how to fix this.
I have attached a picture of what the phone looks like when we turn it on. Not sure how to get picture in post.
Thanks a bunch!!

I'm going to venture to guess that the process will be entirely too long and tedious for someone not well versed to follow and could potential end in disaster. The phone isn't bricked since the main recovery menu pops up. I'd suggest looking on craigslist for someone locally to help you guys out. Unless someone here can offer a quick fix, i'd much rather you find someone that has experience to fix this in person. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for but that would probably be your best bet

Thank you for your responses! Much appreciated. Believe it or not - this kid fixed it all by himself. Basically (remember I am not technical) he unlocked the boot loader then flashed a ROM onto an SD card and was able to load. Don't think I worded correctly - but it's fixed and working fine. WHEW!!
I will certainly keep the info to this forum handy because something tells me that I will be visiting again with this child..................
Have a great evening!!
p.s. I typed the wrong key -- he's 12 not 11

I started getting into ROMs your sons age. I am 15 now. I have hard bricked a Motorola Atrix 2, meaning it won't turn on at all. That's cool your son is a tech wizard too, it will do him a lot of good and a lot of bad. You should educate him about Ubuntu and let him screw with that on a PC. Much safer messing with a computer than a phone. Anyways, glad he got it working. ?

Me too! Im 14 now.
The M8 is my first android phone and custom roms seem to get better and better.
The phone was not "bricked", and you are using the term improperly. Your son simply did something to make the phone unable to boot into the Android operating system. This state is usually easy to recover from, as long as the proper steps are known. So that is not a brick.
Itis of course your choice whether to let your kid modify (mod) your phone in such ways. And part of the modding process is always going to involve some hiccups (for even the most experienced users) and figuring out how to fix them. So I'm glad your son figured it out.
On the other hand, both you and he should be fully aware (if not already) that modding the phone may void the warranty, and also permanent damage (a true "brick") is possible if he doesn't fully understand what he is doing. Such damage is not covered by warranty.
To the OP (original poster), please do not create multiple thread asking the same question.
Its against forum rules, and makes it super confusing for those trying to help you.

I agree about his technical skills being alot of good and bad! We've had our share with him-- I won't bore you with the lists. My husband is the tech guy (of course he was away on business when this happened) and he understands his quest for knowledge and how much he loves this stuff - -says it's how he learns. Hubby has given him some old laptops and ipods and he sure has fun with those!

Oh, I'm sorry. Are you counting the on contract price? Okay. Well, throw it on the ground or drop it in a pool or give it to a child to ruin. Now go back to the store to get a replacement and see how much it costs. You also signed a contract and took on an extra monthly data plan... For a child. The fact that you have no clue how much the phone actually costs explains a lot, actually.
I'm not concerned about your wallet. You clearly have more money than sense, so rather than crying here, just go buy a replacement phone for him to ruin. While you're at it, go ahead and get him an espresso machine.

Seems like she asked a question to a problem and it was answered. I'm not sure how taking a personal shot at a newcomer to the forum accomplishes anything. Her decision to buy her son anything is hers and hers alone, why inject your opinion into it, much less insinuate that she has no sense. It comes off as aloof and petty. This doesn't seem to be in the spirit of this forum. Flame away.

Thanks a bunch for your support and from all of those who responded. I've visited various forums in my life and am well aware that there are always those few who just like to be mean and find power on these boards. I didn't come here asking for anyone's opinion on what I allow my children to do or how they spend their allowance - just needed some advice. Sincerely appreciate the great input that I have received.

The actual retail cost of the device is $639; which would also be the replacement cost of this device. The on-contract price of $199 is just a subsidized cost, which the carrier basically spreads over the length of your 2-year contract.
