Protocol ROM - how do I upgrade it? - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

Hi,
I've got two HTC Nikis in front of me, they are identical with Tom's ROMs expcept one has the 25.65.30.04W Protocol ROM and the other has the 25.65.30.04H Protocol ROM.
The H ROM device has a corrupt screen when I dial a number. It also displays the flip open menus without the background or graphics (just shows the text for each option).
What does the protocol ROM do and how/where can I update it?
Thanks in advance all
D.

Ignore it!
W and H is a internal function Discription about the Radio Rom and change some times!
The Protocol Nr. "25.65.30.04" mean, you have the Radio "1.58.21.23"!!!
If you have Display Problem, this Problem have nothing todo with the Radio Rom. Try to Hardreset your Device. The most Rom Cooker use the CustomRUU, but they doesnt understand ... this Rom is Only for SPL and Radio Rom Updates, too prevent a Hardreset!!! If you flash a Rom ... you need Hardreset your Device!!!

thanks, just so I'm clear, a Hard Reset is to press both green/red softkeys whilst turning on the Niki (this gives me the - lose all your data message, and does a reset) - I did that and the corruption is still there. Does it have to be done directly after flashing?
So what's with the H ans W revisions - does this mean I'm using different radio roms?

i tried, but result were the same....seems like some graphy broken..

same here - reflashed, hard reset and still corrupt graphics.
very strange - the only other thing that is different between to two phones I have here is that one of them has a clever SIM that seems to have an app/STK Service on it (etisalat)

Make a Picture of your graphic problem!
i dont know what w or h means, but i think you can ignore it. try to flash a FULL HTC Rom with SPL, Radio and OS like HTC ASIA Rom and then you try to flash your favorite Cooked Rom!!

Applications in ExtRom that will kill yr WM2003SE

Dear all,
I have tested the WM2003SE (Version_2.06) for some days now and finally found out that one (or the combination) of these extra applications in the Extended Rom will surely KILL the phone functionality if you ever happen to soft-reboot the device while in landscape mode. Here is the list of suspected incompatibles.
- BTPSKeyUpdate_003
- cm_rm_map_o2_v3
- CprogHook.WM2003_2577
- DelAddStarMenu_092404.sa
- delshortcut
- LoadDialogInit_MS_10150402.sa
- startmenu_103wwe
I am absolutely sure that one of these will cause serious device hang once we ever happen to soft-reset while in landspace, but I'm not sure which one. So if any of you have these software installed in version 2.06, please try your best to aviod reseting while in landscape.
BTW, if you happen to know any of these software's intended uses, please also let me know since I"m not sure whether removing them can cause malfunction in other areas. Thanks
Hi there,
thanks for the alert. But i don have the problem like you said. I soft resetted my 2.06 more than 10x in landscape mode but still no reset/hang/idle/trojan virus.....
Guess i'm just a bit lucky!
BTPSKeyUpdate_003 - cannot cause hang. It is used only once just after hard reset
cm_rm_map_o2_v3 - some O2 customisations. May cause hang.
CprogHook.WM2003_2577 - my program. Conflicts with some programs and may hang your device on boot (device simply stops responding to keys/stylus). To check this - delete \windows\startup\cproghook.exe and reboot. On most of devices it works fine, but have problems in landscape mode.
DelAddStarMenu_092404.sa - ?
delshortcut - ?
LoadDialogInit_MS_10150402.sa - this is a patch for 2.20CHS OS. Should not be used on other ROMs, but it should not hang your device.
startmenu_103wwe - ?
I've seen that removing SD-card during boot helps sometimes.
did any one faced this?
it happend twice!
my phone shows good signal reception but when some body calls in it will say "can not be reached" like it is off or no signal!
and i also can't make phone calls at that stage!
some thing is killing my phone!
i have tried both radio stack 1.14 and 1.18 and i happened in both.
now i am trying radio stack 1.14 from ROM 1.72! it seems it is not the same 1.14 from mamaich rom. by using hex editor i found that mamaich radio stack version is 1.14a!
what do you think guys?

Yeap, your suspicious is very true. Both of them are different. But how different is different would need mamaich to answer how he first got this radio stack!!

i used 1.08 radio stack... no problems here.... downgraded it from 1.17
Microsoft Voice Command
Anybody encounter problems with MS Voice Command in WM2003SE ROM?
When I soft re-set the XDAII device, it sorts of hang the devices. Always need me to soft reset a few times. I've since remove it and soft reset is ok.

I have not installed it. I only downloaded it. I have no idea what is new. My guess is that the OP has not installed it either because he was sure of the language. How do I upload?
Uploaded to our FTP:
ftp://xda:[email protected]_1.31.305.2_1.31.305.103_1.20.31.10_ship.zip
editing the wiki now....
Language is english (WWE), it has bootloader 1.06 which will prevent you to flash any other rom unless you have one matching your CID.
Radio version is 1.20.31.10 which seems newer than any other rom.
Still missing information about OS build / AKU, rom date, and protocol... first person flashing it please update the wiki
ROM flashed, WiKi updated.

Can the radio version be extracted and uploaded? Would be nice!!
English language, ugly i-mate telstra bootscreen, nothing overly exciting in build to report - still AKU 2.3.
P
i was hoping aku 3.0. i guess i'll just stay with cingular v1.31 with aku 2.6
Now all we need is for someone to crack the HTTupgrade exe so those of us on the cingular ROM with no official carrier ROM to downgrade to can upgrade to this one!

so i can update with this rom but after i can update only with the rom that have my CID?
thx
With the upgrade in radio, do you think my JasJam could see an increase in battery life considering the 1.16 radio absolutely destroyed my battery life?
Its looks like all the new roms are going to be 1.06, I would like to upgrade to this, but as I don't have a way back to 1.04 I will not risk it, as I don't have an original rom to go back to.
I hope we can find a solution for the CID in the near future to help.

This rom looks the same as the one I got with my Jasjam off Telstra ( hence the boot up screen) and its dated in my device 09/08/06 this is most likely american date format.
So the rom is old
i think this rom is for Telstra users only here in australia so its no different from the original rom from imate.....it only has a few extra operator settings under Telstra provider......Telstra here in Australia are the main imate distributors......
Telstra ROM
I've had this version running on my device for 2 weeks now as I bought the Telstra iMate JasJam.
I don't know about the previous ROM, but this one is terrible; my device will crash, hang or start working in a weird manner all the time...
The most common problems so far:
-Sound stops working, will only vibrate. This happen if you switch to silent mode, when you get back to normal sound mode, it stays in silence mode until you reboot. this doesn't always happen. can't reproduce it consistently
-BT turns off by itself once in a while, you have to turn BT on in comm manager
-The most annoying: If you have a data session active (not transfering any data) and a BT connection active (like headset, GPS), then you can't receive a call. The person calling you won't even get to voicemail. it just hangs up on them. if you disconnect the data session or turn off BT then you can receive calls again
-Switching username in MSN will often make messenger crash, you have to kill the process and start it again
-Sometimes will hang for no reason: you need to press the reset button
Then you have the GUI weirdness which make you think: what did they drink the day they designed this software?
Like if you receive a SMS, it will show you an extract of it at the bottom of the screen, you'll get off the following choice:
-Reply on the left soft menu
-More on the right soft menu with the option (delete, call sender, Save as Read, dismiss)
What if I just want to read the full content in the Messaging application? you can't.
If you select Mark as Read immediately it doesn't mark the SMS as read in the messaging application and you still get the notification in the top screen. You have to do "Mark as Read" twice.
Something I miss from my symbian phone, if you have a bluetooth headset paired with a unit (or your car kit) when you answer a call using the BT headset button, the call goes to the BT headset, but if you answer using the device itself, it doesn't go on the BT. This is great if you want to take a personal call in a car for example, and don't want your passenger to hear what's going on.
On WM5, you can't control that. it aways goes to BT if the headset/handsfree is set.
When the keyboard is open, if you tap on a text field, the screen keyboard will show up (and text half of the screen). Why show a software keyboard all the time when you have a full qwerty keyboard available !? Sometimes the keyboard doesn't show up, but I'm yet to understand the logic behind it. it's not consistent
And then of course you have some inconsistencies here and there, like the device will stop working as it did 2 minutes prior. You try it again: bank it works.
I wonder if Microsoft or HTC have any QA !

Please kindly help me downgrade to Radio 2.19.11

Hi!
long time viewer first time poster.
I have G4 CID LOCKED Cingular 8125 with mfrazzz's Crossbow Reloaded 1.7.1 I have wizard love Rom as Base.
I really tried hard to update (I guess it is really a downgrade) my original Radio from 02.25.11 to 2.19.11 but no matter what I do, it failed.
I tried with every romupdateutility_wizard_noid.exe i could find but I get the same result everytime.
ON PC: I get 260 Error (tried in two machines same error message)
and
On my Wizard: stuck in this 3 colored screen. I see 3 color screen with "RUU" in right upper corner and "USB" on left bottom with IPL/SPL version showing in red If i press reset button, it will boot back to mobile windows fine.
Can anybody help me?
My rest device info:
ROM Version: 2.18.0.0 WWE
ROM date:2/14/06
IPL/SPL: 2.25.0001
GSM:02.25.11
Protocol version? 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version: faria V5.0
My Downgrade
All I did was use the rom upgrade utility from the "wizard love rom" (the one that is in Italian) and the T-mobile radio rom listed in the Wiki.
Worked like a charm!
thanks for the reply..
but of course i tried that already.
i think error 260 is communication related issue. PC communicate perfectly with ActiveSync.. but when it reboot for the flashing to occur,it just get stucked as if pc is not communicating with the wizard.
is downgrade to 2.19.11 really worthy?

Is your device actually booting up? If so, just download one of the radio ONLY roms. It won't matter whether you have a CID locked phone or not and the radio ONLY rom will not touch the IPL/SPL.
Having said that, is there a reason why you want to downgrade to 2.19? Are you having missed calls issues?
Hi titus666,
I am having the same ROM and missed call issues too.Even when i am on a full coverage area my wizard signals seems to dropping, coming back, dropping ....
What could be the probalem .Any recommended Radio ROMS's.

A little bit off regarding your initial post but here´s good feedback on how both radios behave.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=312834
I've had some problems as well.
I used the tool that came in the download to downgrade to 2.19 (I am having missed calls problem) and it won't.
I'm using a Windows Vista and already did the whole thing to update drivers with the one given on the forum over here, yet, everytime I run the thing it crashes and then I have to go through it all over again.
Its like the driver just doesn't work anymore, even though I have tried "re-updating" it to the one that I downloaded here, unlike the real Roms this one just won't go throguh and wait for the 3 colored screen to come up, just freezes before.

"no GSM" problem. All workaround posted doesn't work! Pls HELP!!!

Hi all,
First of all I want to let you know that I did search the forum for a solution. In fact, I found a lot of workarounds but none of them actually worked.
Let me give some details about my problem: My Hermes was working fine. I was running the official WM6 ROM supplied by HTC, so no customized ROM here.
It was going fine until the WM frozed. Then I soft reset the device and after that I never got cellular signal again.
While booting the device I got the message: "no GSM".
First thing I tried was to flash a new radio ROM. In all the attempts the progress bar never moved from 0% and after a while I got the communication problem error.
Then I tried flashing a whole ROM. This time the progress bar stopped at 81%. Apparently in the first 81% it flashes the OS and in the last 19% it writes the radio. Anyway, I tried this a few times and never finished.
In fact, after every communication error message I got stuck in the bootloader screen.
The only thing that works is to flash a ROM WITHOUT the radio!!
Is there anything I can do to save my phone or am I condemned to use my Hermes as a phone-less pda?
I tried everything I found in the wiki/forums, but I couldn't find a working solution.
I suspect that the blocks of memory where the radio data reside got corrupted, could that be possible?
PLEASE HELP!
thanks in advance!
Chris
A similar thing happen to me several months ago. While on a call my phone froze and when I soft-reset it the dreaded 'No GSM' issue appeared. I tried flashing radios/full roms/etc, but nothing worked. I ended up sending my phone to the htc repair facility and they fixed it at no cost. (Other than not having a phone for ~10 days)
Thanks dang, but I don't have a HTC service center where I live (Argentina, LATAM)
I'm faithful that the people of this wonderful community will be able to help me.
Just for curiosity, where did you send your device? Is it in the US?
cheers
sounds like a hardware problem to me...
Hi, there! I found that a lot of us who have bricked our Hermes, don't have a responsive radio bootloader, so when they try to flash a full rom, the progress bar hangs to 13%, or 81%. This is because at that time the flasher is trying to enter the radio bootloader, but because it's corrupted, it hangs. Till today there is no known solution to this one. I'm far away from England where I bought my Hermes, so I'm not thinking to send it back for repair. I'm a programmer, so my knowledge may be usefull here. The first thing I must know is if i can use the "lnb" command without being SuperCID. I mean if there is something like a Hard-SPL with an "lnb" command - (or renamed for security reasons). Maybe there is hope!
How can I try that?

You can use 'lnb' in HardSPL without having a real SuperCID; however you will not be able to flash a radio with 'lnb' command. The radio chipset has its own bootloader, the and the SPL just acts as a pass-through sending the data directly to radio chipset through the s2410 UART.
I had one device with non-responsive htc_boot and tried all kinds of SPL patches to flash htc_boot again on radio, without success. The only known method to fix this is to take the BGA chip out with hot air and reflash it with special hardware, as it is not common to have this equipment at home, your only option is to send it somewhere to do it for you.
However, I don't want to discourage you to research on it, maybe you find something i didn't
I have a similar problem
I also have a NO GSM and corrupted CID but I can access KITL and use it with PB 5.0. and I followed this steps here but the phone doesnt boot completely. It stops just after the two boot screens on Black WM6 ending on a white screen and the debug window on PB after loading all sort of things begin showing these lines over and over:
@@@@@@ HUB state changes now @@@@@@
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN TRUE
[HDC]HubStatusChangeThreadPN FALSE
Is there any hope for me? I have the cingular 8525
thanks
Gents, do you think the solution presented in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280425 could help me?
Please advise.
thanks again

I can flash cooked os without any problem, but it's impossible to put official
It's only a pda now, it's better than a brick
My hernes use to be the same as you 'NoGSM'.I tried to install the official rom,but it 's not work at all.I called to service center ask this problem,so they said that it must be only changed the mainboard. That 's terrible!!!

No GSM but when sim inserted
Hi all, First sorry for my bad english.
I also have 2 bricked Tytn Hermes 200. Its not my personal ones Its my company's property, which pple were using this phones. So i'm facin with problem which many pple here having but with exception. both phones having no gsm error when sim inserted but without sim its fine. In other words , device info showing every info including IMEI when sim unavailable. And some times works with sim but after making few call and receiving phone hangs(not system) and goes off from network but anthena signal still showing few bars. I'm thinking maybe the radio hangs totally and goes off, and after soft restart NO GSM. I also tried many flashing upgrading those things nothing can really help me.
When im flashing original rom from HTC (the latest one HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108) its hanging on 12% and doing 3 or 4 times recovery , but its finishes succesfully. So what exactly happening in 12th%?. Maybe its started flashing radio and stopped on bad block ? But then why its finishes succesfully after few retry?. Ok so if any one wants to experiments on the phones except radio welcome. I'll help. And some can give me quick example of how to check bad blocks?.
Tnx.

#1. have you try the comm button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
#2. OR try the comm button+OK button+reset button hold for 2-3 seconds
anyway, i'm not sure if KITL is dependend on the ROM version. because when my device was in NO GSM status, SPL is 1.04, HTC bootloader is 0108, and lost SuperCID. Because of my device is still has SPL 1.04, i was able to load WM5 full ROM upgrade using WWE HTC English QTEK_001 2.05.255.1 01/17/07 version (ROM available on this site under HERMES Upgrade link), run it twice. once you have successful load the WM5 ROM then try to do step #1 or #2 above to get KITL USB display on your screen device.
Note: i don't think KITL mode is not available once your device is in Production Mode. anyone here can verify this?

My device is still SuperCID and I know I don't have KITL...I have SPL 1.04 as well and HTC Bootloader is 0108. I can't install any ROMs with radios as they will hang at 11/12%. I will attempt this "overload" method where it seems some people have had luck with it...after a few recoveries it just finally installs...but I don't think that will be the case.
If I can't fix this in a few days, I will most likely use my warranty or just wait for the Kaiser.
My variation of No GSM
I feel like I have problem 1A...where I am able to boot into OS but no GSM.
I am still SuperCID, SPL 1.04, HTC Bootloader 0108. Last known radio before corruption was 1.48.00.00. ROM where this problem occured: VP3G 3.60.1.
I was not even in the middle of an upgrade...just a soft reset after my phone ALREADY lost GSM capabilities during a tether session. It was stuck with no signal in Phone Mode...I put it in Flight Mode...then tried to move it back to Phone Mode and it wouldn't do so. I soft reset...and the no GSM stuck.
I tried to reinstall radio...many errors...stuck on bootloader. At first, OS's only were not installing as well but I got past that. Now I am able to boot into OS's with limited capabilities...and they will NOT ACTIVESYNC at all. Regardless of how old or new the ROM is. I tried older OS's that I knew worked in the past for me...but they refused to activesync.
Due to that, I am not able to install latest HardSPL 2.10Oli via SSPL. That seems to be the only way to do it according to my knowledge and what I've read. Maybe mtty was capable but I'm not sure. HardSPL 1.40Oli wasn't giving me any problems though, but I just wanted to have the latest one so I can avoid IPL damage.
I can only install anything if I start the device in bootloader...and I'm only limited to the OS since my Radio Bootloader seems corrupted.
I'm not sure what caused the corruption in the first place...but I feel annoying now posting on different parts of the forum with a problem that seems to be growing in the community.

Radio problems with hard-spl installed

Ive flashed a custom rom (HTC_HERMES_S64_WM_6.1_TouchFlo2D_UC_ WWE v4) on my hermes (herm200), right after flashing i saw the No GSM error. So i reset and removed my battery for a few seconds. Fixed the problem for 2 days, recieving sms & calls just fine. After 2 days it returned.
How can i restore this problem?
Ive tried the following:
- soft reset + remove battery 30mins (still no gsm, but os works)
- hard reset + remove battery 30mins (still no gsm, but os works)
- reflash the custom rom (still no gsm, but os works)
- flash a different custom rom (still no gsm, but os works)
- flash a 1.51 radio only (stuck at 0%)
- flash a 1.56 radio only (stuck at 0%)
- flash originial WM6 rom (stuck at 12%)
- flash original WM5 rom (doesnt start communication error)
- mtty.exe method from the wiki "no gsm" hints
- SSPL-HERM.exe method
Anything i might have overseen looking for a fix? Kinda thought flashing with hard spl was fairly safe but looks like i was wrong ;-(
I don't believe Hard SPL was the problem. The Hermes seem to have a problem with the radio after a while. It could be a chip on the MB is overheating, a problem with the radio antenna or anything.
Flashing Hard SPL is a must if you want to flash new roms and saying that Hard SPL is the culprit may make noobs not do it causing a lot of problems.
The fact your GSM is missing after flashing it may just be a coincidence.
So saying, if you've tried to re-install the shipped stock rom and a standalone radio rom then it seems your radio rom memory may be corrupted. This means your phone won't work but you can still use as a PDA.
Sorry...
Could flashing the original SPL result in flashing the shipped rom succesfully?
Thus removing hard spl and returning it in factory state?
Tried making a usb log but the ansi text file is a whopping 104 mb
I think the problem lies here, after the Restore ExtRom Complete it says:
"Port read timeout!!!"
"AUX_process FAIL, reason 2, dwRead=0, dwWritten=41.."
"+Port1 did not get connect"
No, once the meory is corrupted on the radio rom it is pretty much unrecoverable. At leas, no ones succeeded yet.
