I love my Mogul but the one thing i cant stand is the slow dialer. I cooked a rom with DCDs latest and picked the bliss dialer or something. No matter which one i pick they are very unresponsive. Does anyone know of a dialing pad that is quick like the Treos.
Thanks
Mike
did you turn off the keypad sounds? on the dialer hit menu>options>keypad: off
I just did and it really helped, but is there anything faster. It is still not responsive enough. If i dial quick, it misses half the keys.
Thanks
Mike

I second that. I used to have HP iPaq HW6515 with wm2003 (by the way, first communicator with GPS) and it had THE MOST responsive touch I ever used. I mean, response was in mil-seconds. I saw mogul response as drawback when I first used it but other thingsmade up for it...
I started using Inesoft Address Book about a month ago. I know it isn't free (30.00) but the dialer is fast ( even if you turn on the vibrate key mode ). Its probably more than you are looking for but it might be worth your while.
This is the dialer i just found the other day. with the tones off it is 100x faster than the stock dialer, I haven't noticed any issues with it after a few days.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=380466
gc suggested this the other day, and its definitely a keeper for me. by far the fastest and most responsive dialer ive ever used. its a CDMA version of the iPhone dialer.

Ok for the third thread now....this dialer is a CDMA dialer and DOES work with both ## codes AND 911. I'm not sure why 911 wasn't working for you, but it's likely something rewrote registry keys.

Why the hostility? You told me that it wasn't CDMA, and I was simply showing you that it was in the title of the software. If it did not work on mine, maybe it was a fluke but a fluke that had to be brought to people's attention as reading this single thread did not lead to believe so. I would hate for someone not be aware and not try it, to only have an emergency and not be able to dial 911.

Lots of people have trouble with that dialer on CDMA phones. 911, ##codes, data arrows, redial, smartdialing, last number dialed, etc.
Redial and smartdialing didn't work using the etphone.dll in this thread but do work using the one found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=394518 Still a little buggy with the display though.

Ok first of all that is a dialpad skin, NOT a dialer. The dialer it uses is the EXACT same dialer I posted and the one you're saying doesn't work. So I'm not sure what you're doing over there, but everything you just mentioned works perfectly fine on the Titan using the dialer I linked and the provided EtPhone.dll. If you'd like me to record a youtube video showing you it works then I will.

Maybe it's the dialer skin I'm using (JD's custom 2.17 ROM), but none of the PST codes are working for me. They don't do anything when i punch them into the dialer program. I even tried hitting send (talk) and it just dials the number. I know i've gotten into that PST screen before.
Anyone have any ideas? I have my MSID i just need to grab my MDN and AKEY before flashing to the 3.x Radio and ROM.
go to file explorer and then windows directory...there is file called EPST...launch that and it opens up the epst screen

I had the HTC dialer and have to dial ##778 leaving off the last # and that worked for me.
My phone has been great since updating to DCD's latest cocktail but today I started having a really weird problem.
I would manually dial a number in the dialer screen (# was not in my contacts) and it would instead dial a similar number of one of my contacts. Tried it 5 times and even tried soft-resetting and it kept doing it.
After the soft Re-set and clearing my call memory it started choosing a different number to call but still the same issue. The numbers is chose were very similar, all had the same area code and the 1st 2 numbers were the same but after that completely different.
Is there a way to go to the stock dialer? I'm on a Verizon 6800.
Thanks.

Are you talking about smartdialing? If so this is normal
What it is doing is that when you dial a number whether it is in your contacts or not, it is trying to recognize numbers that you have dialed. If it matches it will display the name of the contact and options to give information.
But if you keep dialing and the numbers don't match with any contact then nothing will appear. It will just let you dial the number that you are trying to dial with out having to look through a familiar contact.
it was doing the smart thing narrowing it down as I entered more numbers but after the 6th number nothing matched so it showed just the number in the dialing section of the screen. Hit the send button and it would then choose a contact to dial instead.

Hmm that is odd... If you dont really use Smart dial, try disabling it in the options menu of the dial screen. This might help. Are you running a custom ROM or Stock?
DCD's newest custom ROM with the custom dial. I was hoping there was a way to load the stock dialer instead to see if that helped.
Wow... funny, I had the same thing happen a few times exactly as described. I dialed the complete 10 digit number and instead it dialed one of my contacts with the same area code and partial prefix. I figured it was just me.
I'll try disabling Smart Dialing and see if that fixes it.
Also I looked at the numbers I called and I was trying to dial XXX-761-2056 but it dialed XXX-709-8039 so not even close. The other time it tried dialing XXX-701-5325.

So you guys cooked your own ROMS and when you cooked it you put the Vogue Dialer , Vouge Skin, and Smartdial?
Or the Stock Titan Dialer ?
Because I installed the Vouge options with smartdial and mine works perfectly.
I will provide you with the Mogul / 6800 Big Button CAB which will replace your dialer and the Touch Skin CAB to skin the dialer.... This might work "you can always uninstall it"
I didn't do any cooking, I just took DCD's basic ROM and loaded that but it came with a different dialer than stock for the XV6800.
I'll give those dialers a shot, that a lot.
Turns out that this is the same dialer as the one built into DCD's ROM but what is interesting is no numbers showed on the keypad. It also showed up as HTC HTC Home for the install in remove programs
Well crap. Turns out the HTC HTC Home listing in remove did remove the HTC home plug in but not the dialer and now I've got not #'s on the keys. I can't find the uninstall line for this dialer, any ideas? Oh wait think I found it. The Bullfrog Big Button Dialer right?
I installed the Wizard reTouched dialer (installing it will fix your no number issue). I haven't tried just dialing a random number though... lemme give it a shot.
Ok, I just tested it and it worked fine, let me find the dialer. It looks EXACTLY the same as the "stock" one in DCD's rom, but I found it's a little different.
Ok, here it is, it's attached in the first post of this thread. There are some skins for it too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315685
I noticed that when I tried to skin the stock dialer it didn't skin right. I'd have no numbers, or some of the buttons wouldn't map right. I installed the dialer in the thread above and I was able to skin it fine, and it makes calls without issue.
P.S. The test number I dialed has the same area code and exchange as a few contacts.
Oh, and the Wizard dialer will show up in your remove programs list.
You guys need to install the Big Button dialer along with the Touch CAB
The Big Button Dialer just installs the Dialer and the Touch CAB skins the Dialer with the key pad.
I have tried the Wizard Retouched one, but I removed it because it looks wack to me because you can't modify it like the big button can.
So for those with not having a dial pad
Install the Mogul Big Button Dialer
Then
The Touch CAB
Or they can pick whichever one they prefer.
You know, choices and all...

True, but after all it was an opinion not a fact.
Fact is that with the big button dialer and the Touch skin cab it is easy to make your own skins by replacing the ones that the Touch skin cab created.
This is meant for true modifiers. Because you wont have to be installing cab after cab after cab or even worrying about getting a gsm dialer that removes certain features on your phone.
Since I really don't care for the custom dialers I deselected the dialer skin and the smartdailing in DCD's kitchen. Now I have an original WM6 Dialer with WM6 smartdialing and I really like it.

UPDATE
I am assuming you guys use CDMA since it is a TITAN Forum. Be advised that using the Wizard Touch Dialer will not only give you memory leaks, BUT
also disable the ability to use 911 and other features such as the advanced configuration mode on your phone.
Check out post 170 on the same link that redirects you to the Wizard dialer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315685&page=17
Workaround
I have found that when you are dialing a number that is similar, or if it happens more than once, push up on the directional pad after dialing the number which deselects the smart dialing number in the window. then press the green button as usual. This seemed to help and hasn't done it for me in several days.
Serf, Since I'm a newb at custom ROMS I didn't do the kitchen thing. Maybe I need to give that a shot so I can get the stock dialer back.
Hey guys, i thought i saw some time ago a way to be able to make and receive phone calls through the Sprint Evo View 4G? Am i right or was it the Flyer? now is this even possible at all?
I have made and received calls on my view using an app called grooveip.

I don't believe so, Sprint disables voice on the network side, not handset side.

Are you sure? While attempting to port an Evo View ROM to the 3D I came across a line in the build.prop mentioning the disabling of the dialer. I Don't remember exact syntax at the moment but we ended up changing that value on the port to get the dialer working for the 3D.
I thinks it's possible to the point that I think I'm going to try it sometime in the near future lol.
Well on my View I have the native phone dialer enabled with icon and everything. The phone doesn't connect to anything, however. It just vibrates like it's connecting and timer runs like I'm connected tho I'm not. Therefore, I just use grooveip for phone calls. This looks promising tho since the native dialer is there. But my pessimism is telling me that this is next to impossible due to voice being disabled on Sprints end as stated by a previous poster.
If I have just the data plan, then I only get data? I send and receive sms/mms just fine. Does Sprint offer a voice package for the View or one at least compatible?
EDIT:: I actually pay for unlimited SMS/MMS with my tablet plan. So ignore that part, but since messaging uses the same 1xRTT network as voice, I don't imagine it would be too hard to get voice working on this thing.
As far as I'm aware, the hard part of getting the View to make "native" phone calls, is the fact that the ESN for the device needs to be associated with the a plan that supports voice, and Sprint, as a corporate policy, won't do this. Whilst I suppose it is possible that a very, very friendly CSR could do this for you, I wouldn't like to bet on it.
Regards,
Dave
I believe the system blocks certain plans from being applied with certain ESNs. Things were different before I believe but not now.
I did manage to get a phone call out from my view to my 3d. As soon as i answered it on my 3d both lines disconnected. If I were a gambling man, which I am, I'd say you guys are correct in the no calls to/from a tablet on Sprint.
My only remaining questions are why? The device is capable of sms and if I'm not mistaken still uses 1xRTT which is also what voice calls use?

Well, I bought the device for a 20$/mo 7" phone, and I love it.
The reason sprint won't let you use voice is because they don't want the secret to get out that in reality you only need one PIPE (ie data plan) to do everything you need... they love selling you a 40$/mo voice plan.
Think about how LITTLE you use the phone (even if you use it a lot it doesn't cost as much as data) and think that they basically charge the same amount for the voice as for the data, on a standard smart phone.
Great cost/benefit ratio...
I really hate how you guys make so much sense... It really does suck though that if my 3d dies that I can't make a call from my view. I might call sprint and see if they can just share my minutes between both lines. I use a whopping 3 a month total.

I called Sprint yesterday or the day before because I was having connectivity issues which gave me an idea. The Sprint reps (all 7 of them) had no idea that the Evo View was a tablet, they kept telling me to go into the dialer and dial in EPST codes and stuff which I kept telling them was impossible since I didn't have a "Phone" app to get to the dialer from. I finally got someone who did realize that the dialer is inaccessible because its a tablet and not a phone and told me to use the dialer codes in the calculator app substituting hash/pound/# for exclamation/!
My idea being, with CDMA Workshop/QPST/EPST you should be able to swap ESN's (illegal as hell so I don't recommend it nor will I share how to do it) and get the tablet up on the voice network.
As for the quote above, with your view in landscape, open the calculator and type in !!3282! = and you should get EPST. You will need your MSL code! It'll ask you for View Mode and Edit mode to which you'll want to edit the settings. Go to Advanced and make the following changes::
- EVRC-B from Disabled to Enabled
- Home Orig from EVRC to EVRC-B
- Roam Orig from EVRC to EVRC-B
What this will do is change the voice codec (kinda like .mp3 or .wma) for your incoming and outgoing voice quality to one that is newer, has better compression, and has better quality (Almost like the difference between .mpeg and .mp4).
All of this is based on my knowledge of CDMA Android phones. I'm not 100% that it will work on the view at all as mine isn't in front of me at the moment. Also, just to be safe, I'm not liable for damages if you screw up your phone. It's very easy to revert the settings back to factory defaults and doesn't require a full device wipe. I just don't remember the dialer code.
Anyways, best of luck to you in getting this working. I'm taking a break from the view (I really want Honeycomb but I'm too scared to flash radio.img and hboot.img to try and get it working) to work on my Evo 3D projects. I'll still be lurking though so I'm not gone for good. The View needs some more devs and hopefully I'll have something I like on my 3D enough to stick with it for a while.

Currently there is no way to access your address book. Probably wont be either as imagine the time it would take to scroll through your contacts. I have over 500, so thats just not an option.
To access a dialer, and move between numbers is probably the only real choice, but that would still take a long time.
I can't see any of these being implemented by Sony.
My 2 cents
I bought mine yesterday, and yes , the fact that you can only access he call log but not contacts is annoying. But can't someone write a small app for it to bring up the contacts just like my car does? i mean i can enter contacts and then i have to select the first letter. this could be fairly ok-ish, right?
Is there a way to use it to wake google now and get google now to dial the number we want?
Fwiw I sold the phone and bought a note 3

Yes, sprint, ls992, if you can get it to work, let me know please, because i hate sprints visual voice mail... I can't get it to work with my google voice number, or by merging my number with my google voice account... Very irritating...

I remember it being tricky when I set it up several years ago...like had to call Google or something. I may have an old post on some board somewhere about, lemme look around.
